system and dial-up won't allow you to do that. Some companies ask for DSL/Cable so it is less taxing on their servers for people to download. I know there were companies who are okay with dial-up because you just download and then work off-line, but I think those numbers are dwindling.

Big deal! Lots of companies require certain things whether it be software, sm
footpedals, a certain version of Word, etc. I have an Infinity footpedal and I have used Expresscribe with it previously; however, StartStop is totally worth the money as it works with it as well.
Do all companies require you to work 1 year before you can take vacation?
Meaning you are an employee, of course. Just wondering if there is any hope out there. If you start with a company and it turns out horrible, then you have to start all over again, waiting for another year to go by. I don't want to wish my life away!!
Thanks everyone!

Companies should require MTs to have sm
a complete reference library as most newbies rely expressly on Google or the word help boards. This is where US MT quality has hit the skids in very recent years. The new MTs don't want to bother researching so they can't possibly realize the serious mistakes they continue to make.
All companies who require OT have to pay for it (sm)
If a company has enough work for OT, by law the employee has to record it and the company has to pay it (if the employee has been approved to work the OT). Get everything in writing. For MTs, OT is usually the normal cpl rate x 1.5 for OT lines, which equates to the same as time and a half as mandated by federal laws.
All companies I know of go back and forth between no work and gobbs of OT. I don't know of any company that consistently is out of work or consistently requires OT. Feast of famine in this industry.
I think the companies that DO require
you to clock in and out are few.
What I said was that few companies do require it, so
most of them don't require it.
There are some companies who only require
35 hours. You might be able to get by with producing the minimal line counts though if it is a company that doesn't require you to clock in and out.
I don't think we work at the same place, but I have been working lots and lots of hours.
Very thankful to have a decent job.

Which companies will let/require me to use Shorthand? sm
I hope the mods will leave this since I've already researched and cannot find the answer on the job board.
I love ShortHand and have been building my Shorthand file for many years now. It's definitely tied to my ability to produce. I know of two companies that use it:
Webmedx - employees use Shorthand
Oracle - may use Shorthand (not sure if it's required).
Any others? And please let me know if required or optional. Thank you very much for your help!
Most companies require a certain quota be met
Even as an IC I committed myself to 180 reports a day. I do anywhere from 180-225. I did not sign a contract but did commit to it.

To the companies that require cable or DSL
I have no access to cable and never will because of the area I live in. I also have no access to DSL and do not know when that will happen, if ever. Companies that required cable or DSL should know that they lose out on many experienced and qualified transcriptionists because of that requirement. Like Diskriter--ever since I started job seeking a few weeks ago they have had post after post looking for transcriptionists. I cannot apply because they need high speed internet. What exactly needs the high speed?? Downloading voice files, uploading voice files. I am curious. I work for a company that I downloaded the voice files via internet, typed the files in Word and then uploaded them via internet site and/or FTP. Easy to do and no high speed required. Can anyone enlighten me?
I need a job like yesterday but my options are very limited. I put a query on the board looking for companies that are okay with dialup and got only two names. That is very disheartening. Anyone out there with company names that do dialup still would be very appreciated. Email me if you want, whatever, something.
Thank you all.
Most companies now require a weekend day. I
suggest posting your resume on the various job boards in addition to looking at the ads posted.
Most companies these days require
employees to work at least 1 weekend day. T think any of them would be delighted to have someone who wanted to work both.
Companies who do not require set hours?
I am in need of an IC position that does not require set hours. I am presently working for a company that I told I would be on line anywhere between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., but that was unacceptable, they wanted set hours. So I gave 8 p.m to 12 p.m. but I am not able to comply with that every day. There are some days I would like to start earlier, and some days start later. I would think if I gave them a set line limit that I would be accountable for that that would be acceptable, evidently not though. Any companies out there hiring that has a 24-hour timeframe?
Most companies these days require a
weekend day, even hospitals require at least 1 a month if not more. It is the norm. This is a 24/7 job, 365 days a year.
Companies that require five years' experience...sm
This October, I will be working as an MT for five years. I'm now looking to change companies and I notice there are several who require a minimum of five years' experience.
Would I be better off waiting until October, when I will have been an MT for five years, to change? Do these companies pay any better than those who require less experience? Or are they all pretty much the same and I may as well go ahead and apply to the ones who have less stringent prerequisites?
I've only worked for one MT company so I'm not very savvy on the MT marketplace. Any advice would be appreciated.
Which companies require credit checks?....
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but requiring drug tests, background and credit checks smacks of total disregard for my privacy. It is disrespectful, to say the least, not to mention insulting.
If an employer feels justified to approach me with implied suspicions that I may be a drug addict, criminal or a deadbeat on my way IN the front door, no telling what lies in store for me once I step through it.
I do not bring my personal life to my job and would never consent to what amounts to an administrative strip-search by giving an employer free access to my private information. If they ask for this, it tells me they have nothing to offer me.
I am currently doing a job search and would love to know which companies are doing this, so as not to waste their time or mine.
Actually, both of them have companies and live sm
in Yorkville. Jill owns PMT and Lee owns Keystrokes. I think one used to work for the other or something but they have no ties now with their businesses. PMT is very small but Keystrokes is huge, so I imagine Jill worked for Lee before starting on her own. They are both very nice ladies.
The reasons companies require high-speed
internet can vary, even if you can download via FTP. It seems like a lot of companies use a platform now where you have to be on-line while you work as you are typing live into their system. Other companies may have only a couple of lines to be able to download so they want you to have high-speed to make it quicker. If the company has an FTP you aren't accessing a phone line and can download even at a very slow dial-up speed.
I've seen companies advertise and say you need a C-phone and a high-speed connection. I don't know that just because a company may have an FTP site for you to download that it will eliminate the need for high-speed depending on what their platform is.

Call them. I have lots of work, had lots of work
during the holidays too. I don't know who routes the work, but one of the office people is on vacation this week. I occasionally have to call to get work depending on what hours I'm working, but I have never not gotten work when I've asked for it.
Lots of companies have Sun-Th shifts.
That still gives you 2 days off.
More and more companies offshore. Lots of them
say they don't, but they do. It is getting harder and harder to find a company that doesn't offshore, whether it be to India, the Phillipines, or Trinidad. If you have children to feed and a mortgage to pay you HAVE to work. Unless you've figured out a way to get the bills paid and not work you do what you have to do.
lots of companies just don't know that they CAN use satellite
The VPN, (virtual privacy network), is what makes it HIPPA compliant or not, so it would depend on what VPN your satellite company uses. Satellite works w/ EMDAT, so any company advertising EMDAT should work for you. I basically begged until one supervisor looked into it and discovered they could work w/ me regarding satellite. Then too, some just WILL NOT work w/ satellite. I have had people offer to try to work w/ me, but there was no working it out.
companies that have lots of templates
Are there any companies that provide lots of templates and normals and a good rate per line? This is my dream job, to find this company!
Lots of Indian companies ...
have U.S. addresses. Probably all you need is a P.O. Box.
When I went to www.navesys.com I got an index page rather than an actual website, & one of the links was transindiatranscribers.
It can include Ops, but lots of companies
offer positions with or without ops, so acute care doesn't necessarily mean Ops. Acute care is hospital setting and can be any report type, basic 4 would include Ops usually.

There are lots of companies who will provide a foot pedal, but they

Lots of companies pay 1.5 times line rate
for holidays, but unless you work all day it doesn't add up to much. My company pays for us to take the day off and then if you work you get your line rate, plus get paid anyway, or you can take another day off in the same pay period.
Does TransHealth require you to work one day sm

With Webmedx they do require you to work
a schedule, though often there is no work so you have to flex. Some accounts have extremely tight TAT so it is necessary to work a set schedule, some accounts may allow more flexibility.
Lots of promises, no follow through. Lots and lots of internal sm
problems. She is recruiting heavy right now as she has a CHANCE at getting a big account back. Even if they get it back, they'll blow it again from poor management.
Does Medware require you to work holidays?

Looks like they require everyone to work Saturday also. Not an issue for me but maybe for some.
Work schedules:
Full time: 1) Tuesday - Saturday
2) Monday-Thursday, and Saturday
Part time: To be determined but must include Friday or Saturday
As you can see from the above schedules, the transcription work increases at the end of each week.
Monday is our slowest day, and Friday and Saturday are our busiest days.
I live in KY but work for a PA office

Why wouldn't they? I live in NY and I used to work

If they live up to their name, I'd love to work there!
I'm sure I could pass their test! ROFLMBO!

I work at home and I live in the Midwest.
You have to consider the job market and cost of living in your area of the country. I think I'm doing pretty darn good. If I factor in the incentive pay, I'm making around $35 per hour.

I worried about my employer for part of the winter as my accounts grew sparse. I had plan to switch to being an employee with benefits but dared not make the switch in this economy (this was last year this time, got it?)
I figured keeping my seniority was worth whatever security it afforded.
My accounts have rebounded some and I can pay my bills.
By economizing seriously, I have paid off my credit card and put some money aside, just in case. I'm breathing easier, thanks.
So, all in all, I'm not complaining. This last winter was brutal, but I had a job and I paid my bills. When employment rebounds and/or national health goes into effect, people will go to the doctor again and we will be busy.
My part of the world is like a ghost town -- everyone who could left to find work in the city -- many apparently leaving their homes to the banks. Several houses in my vicinity have been on the market more than 4 years.
Forgive me my loyalty ... it pays the bills.
What does yelling at the rest of us do for you?
How does MD-IT work...do you work for the region in which you live?
If I live in the MidWest Region do I work for the Midwest Office in Mpls/St. Paul? Seems like the benefits are great. Anyone currently work for MD-IT and could tell me a bit about the company! Appreciate it!
