I hate this kind of cheap shot post. What's the deal? nm

Give it a shot
They gave me a chance years ago when I had little experience but tested well - am still there and happy. Downside: Heavy ESL, demanding work environment, expect you to stick like glue to your schedule, very specific accounts. Good: Pay, on time pay, lots of work, 100% US based, hey it's a job and one that I have had for a while now and will continue to defend on here regardless of the horror stories people had years ago with HR or the person who used to be in charge who has since passed away. Make your own decision and take a chance!
I'd give it a shot
Are you looking for clinic or acute care? They do quite a bit of clinic work, too, and you might just be experienced in an area where they need someone. It would most definitely be in your best interest to throw your hat into the ring and apply, Robin...this is quite honestly the best place out there that I've found.

Let us know if you decide to go for it :-)
give Diskriter a shot, sm,
they are hiring, some ESLs yes, good benefits, nice people, written test only, loads of work and paid downtime for the rare time there isn't - - can't hurt to give them a call and make your own decision if they match what you are looking for - - been in the business 15 years, best company I've worked for, 3 years running now
Give them a shot...I'm happy there...SM
It's something each person really needs to try for themselves to make an informed decision. I'm glad I went with them. No job is a bed of roses but overall I like the job. There will always be negative and positive opinions to sort through. I did lots of that when I was deciding where to go.
TY. I'm gonna give it a shot...
Just turned in my resume. Thanks again for the info!
Thanks! I'll give that a shot....nm
nm
this is a long shot, but
Does StatIQ Solutions pay for headers?
I will give the resume a shot and apply! At least you
are passionate in defending your company - at this point in my experience with my company, I wish I felt the same way. So, to me, I'll try to look at your passion as a good sign for KS!
Thanks, I'll give it a shot! Hope they are hiring PT. nm
..
I think they do kind of give you an idea.
Most do anyway.  Some of the ads are really long and almost read like a short novel.  I am not sure they can all put each and every scenario for benefits, hours, etc.  I think most recruiters will answer questions before you take the time to test though to see if it may be a good fit.  Wow, there are a lot to choose from.
Long-time Futurenet IC...sm
I've been with Futurenet both full and part-time since 2001. I have ALWAYS found them to be a very good company to work for! The pay is very fair and is always on time. The people are extremely friendly and always willing to help. Work can be low at times, but Workflow does make an honest attempt to keep you as busy as possible. In my experience, when I start finding myself low on work, all I have to do is ask to train on another account and they always are more than happy to allow me to do so. Let's get real, everyone in this industry experiences work shortages at one time or another during the year. I personally won't work for anyone else!!!

So please don't listen to the one person on this board who is apparently hell bent and sounds to me like she has some sort of agenda. Bottom line, if you don't work you get the boot. If you cause problems and stir up trouble, you get the boot!

Listen to the MTs in this thread that actually work their normal schedules and have been with the company for years. There are WAY more satisfied employees or ex-employees of Futurenet than there are disgruntled ones.

By the way, welcome home Krista! I had no idea you were back.
I worked for Futurenet for a long time. sm

I can honestly say that I did not work on any accounts without a majority of ESLs.  Unless they got a lot of new accounts that are really good, the norm with them was heavy ESLs.  I would advise any MT who has a problem with ESLs to check this out thoroughly before applying with them.

Actually, I'm kind of looking forward to those long reports..(sm)
I haven't done Radiology on a regular basis since 1997...but I got offered this job and I almost turned it down because I've been doing acute care for so long I thought I wanted to continue with that...but I took the Rad job and it just kind of felt good to type Rad again. I think I was burned out on acute care!
Thanks for the kind words. See my Very Long Message

I've been in the profession a long time and I was actually surprised that I could not do the ESL and some of the other Docs at FN.  I've written twice about FN on this board, and I tried to give some of the positives, there were plenty of those too.  When I see how the MTs at some of the big nationals have to punch in and punch out, can't flex their time at the keyboard, have to use up PTO when there's no work available, get switched around without notice, I think FN is probably a whole other, superior culture to work in.  Experience is valued, consistency and regular production is appreciated, the line count as I have said in an earlier post is always correct, the checks are on time (so didn't really need direct deposit once I got used to waiting the few days it took to cut the checks.  My direct supervisor seemed to make assumptions about some situations without asking my version of who said what when, and that was a sore point with me.  They do assess a small monetary charge when certain mistakes are made, per employee handbook this is supposed to kick in after 90 days of employment, but I got my first official notice in my first month, while I was still learning the ropes. I did get quite a few calls about jobs that I never had in my queue being missing, when I never had them in the first place, resulting in having to do them and send them right away.  I kept daily written logs so I knew that I did not have these jobs in my queue.

The quota is 1200 lines a day times 10 in the pay period to qualify for employee status and benefits, and there were quite a few days with no work available for the full 6-8 hours it would have taken to do the 1200 at my skill level,  and I never could get a straight answer about health insurance although it was a condition agreed upon when I was hired.

I was sorry to leave, because although I really was unhappy with the quantity and quality of the dictation I hated to just give up.  Should say the sound quality was superb, it was just the actual Docs mumbling, snorting, whatever, that made doing the work so hard, and the general attitude seemed to be to just get used to it.

My thought on the matter would be that I felt that it might have worked out and I might have stayed with FN because of the 90 percent great people, but only if it had been possible to work in-house for a while or at least to have instant message to some of the QA people so I could ask the questions BEFORE I had to send the report in, rather than getting a marked up report, or as more usual, just an e-mail with the missing words after the audio of the report was long gone.  I don't know about you but I am best at building my knowledge of any Doc's dictating style if I can research in my books, then on the net, then inquire of the QA in charge of my account, all BEFORE sending in a report, instead it went the other way around and I often had to send in what looked like it was not my best work, but in reality was my best effort.

They DO load their LARGE program on your computer, and although I purchased a new XP computer with all the bells and whistles for the job, the platform had many wrinkles in it, seemed to cause problems with importing the demographics, and did lock up on 3 or 4 occasions, causing a 1/2 day loss of work.

Well that's a long post all right, hope you'll forgive me if you've made it this far, but I decided I should put down all the bad AND the good in one post to see if it helps some people make up their mind.  I'm well aware that it may have been my problem all along and that I was just not suited to the particular matchup of company, platform, and accounts.

Good luck to everyone searching, it is a frightening and tiring process.  Hope it works out great for you wherever you decide to work.

I try to be kind and give people the benefit of the doubt, but I have to agree. sm

It all sounds like a bunch of hooey.  My ex husband used to tell lies when the truth would have worked better.  Perhaps she is related to him.

I cannot believe any MT would not know at least the most important aspects of the BOS.  True, with some accounts, you ignore the BOS and do it however the client wants it, but still, you should KNOW the rules.

Maybe I'll just put out a shingle and call myself a lawyer.  Of course, I know nothing about the law ... but maybe that shouldn't be a problem.

Once you forward resume, how long till Futurenet gets back with you? nm

How long do you give a new job before you decide it isn't right for you? sm
My saga follows. Please go to the bottom of post for my question :)

I've been with my current company as a PT emp. for 2 1/2 months. Everything about them seems to be quite fair, not great, but very fair. I'm still on hourly pay of a whopping $8.50 till I get my production up. Therein lies the problem, I cannot EVER see getting my line count up with the inordinately excessive number of ESLs on my acct. It's just ridiculous. All I'm asking is to actually TRANSCRIBE for a living, instead of rewinding and relistening 1000 freakin' times a day.

I've never gotten the feeling that I'm being taken advantage of or given the crap work, I just believe I'm on a very high percentage ESL account. I don't mind doing ESLs, I really don't. I just want more understandable drs thrown into the mix.

This is my first job after graduating and I was lucky enough to be hired for acute care. I'd like to continue in acute care. I just want to be able to PRODUCE, improve and ENJOY my job. I want to be doing MT work for many years to come.

If you've made it this far, thank you. I'd just like some opinions from those of you with more experience about what you might do in my situation.

Also, how long do you give a job before you decide it's not a good fit for you? Am I giving up too quickly?

Thank you so much in advance for your input!
How long to give it before giving up?
I applied for a job with Gulf Coast Transcription.  Took the test and passed.  Was hired.  Was told would have to sign paperwork.  After a few days of not hearing anything, I emailed and asked to please let me know what is going on to which they responded they needed to know if I could work as a subcontractor.  I told them yes (which I know we had discussed before) but only for the rate they had quoted me in the beginning and yet again contact has dropped.  Should I just give up?   These companies can be so frustrating and I think well if it is this hard in the begining, what is gonna happen when it is time for my paycheck....
Are the goals hard to meet? How long do they give you to get there? (nm)

Does FutureNet give annual raises or any type of raises? nm

Your theory shot down

No money to be made here.  Volunteer members do the work, and office products have been donated.  No paid positions.

So . . . . you have nothing, basically.

Didnt he get shot?
bang
what a nasty shot at QA people

The only people you'll see in QA are the lazy ones who have no pride and no longer care.

Are you kidding me?  People who make nasty comments like this with absolutely nothing to back it up are just simply trying to start something.  What a nasty, nasty thing to say.

For the person who originally started this post, I personally can't stand doing MT work anymore.  My wrists and back are shot and I have found that my ears are much sharper when my body isn't stressed out.  I have found in QA my passion and talent and wouldn't trade it for anything.  If you are awesome at MTing, maybe what everyone else is saying is worth heeding and you should stay where you are :)

Yes, they call it a "snap shot."
I also had the same concerns you are expressing and the tech guy said he wanted to take a snap shot of my computer.  I have a very fast internet connection and it was taking him forever to download and get things setup.  Was not happy and was worried my computer would be ruined. When I voice my concerns, he just said time out like I was just suppose to sit there and put up and shut up.  I still get a of  error messages.
Re: The Calif. bill: The "Governator" shot it down. (no msg)

Do they provide sample documents? If so, it may be worth a shot. nm

Thank you!!! Obviously an bitter MTSO because they offered a ridiculous cpl and got shot down.
Shame on you!!

They used to give out $25 Amex cheques -- give them time. :-) nm

No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!

I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.

I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.

I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
They definitely rip you off with your line count. Figured this out long ago and quit long ago

What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
Long, long history of not paying...and
similar posts have been made here in the past few months. Everyone thinks they will be different, and then they end up coming back here to warn others that they don't pay.
I get what you are all saying about them not having to give give you work, but...
I guess I just figure that as an IC, I am basically my own business and it is my responsibility to make sure that the work is done when it should be. I just think that if the standard of the company is 24 hour TAT then that is what I am agreeing to do when they hire me. There are advantages for both of us to the IC senerio, they do not have to pay benefits, or take care of collecting and reporting the taxes, and I have to adhear to the 24 hour TAT (or what every thier standards are) but can do that during hours that are convenient to me. Of course it is better for the company if they know exactly when I am going to be sitting at my desk and typing that is why they have the option of hiring employees. Just my opinion and wanting things to be like they used to be.. I guess I have to get out of my time warp or look a little harder for a company who really knows what IC status means.
but those were long, long lines for
most of the reports. You could make more with a 65-character line count.
Futurenet...sm
Do any of you know of any MTSOs using Futurenet software...iType, iPlayer, iSeries, iText?
Futurenet uses it.

Futurenet
Can you work out of your home for Futurenet?  They are located in Monrovia, arent they?  I think they used to be in the same industrial office area as MQ.
futurenet
TONS of ESL, but pay is excellent and they have weekend & holiday bonuses that are very good! Very flexible and easy to work with.
FutureNet
Thanks for the info. I was offered a position with them today. The account that they told me I would be doing I know has a lot of ESLs. I am debating whether to take the job or not. Anyone heard of HPI (Health Information Partners)? It seems like a good company. Thanks again for the valuable info! Have a great Xmas.
FutureNet
Has anyone heard anything about this company - good, bad or ugly?
FutureNet
Terrific company, excellent pay, office staff,QA and Tech Support great. Other than no benefits, company extremely hard to beat
FutureNet
We've definitely had different experiences with the company. I've typed for them as an IC for about 2 years - guess I've gotten used to the account and dictators. Some are still bad but for the most part, they're ok. Quite a while ago they did have a gal in the office that was hateful but she's been gone for a while now, and I've found the rest of the crew to be terrific. Sorry you had a bad one with them, though. It is so hard to find a decent company; feel I found it with FN but went through a lot of companies until I did.
FUTURENET

Please let me know if you know anything about this company.  How is the staff, etc.? Thanks!

FutureNet
It is a terrific company, friendly group.  Typing platform is one of the easiest I have ever typed.  Have worked for several companies and highly recommend this one.

Anybody working for FutureNet?  Any info, good or bad?
