QA people, some of which were hired only a few months before they were fired, and they just now fired a lot of their upper management.  Something is in the wind at Focus and it smells like crap!  Don't work there.  If you do decide to ignore the warnings, don't believe anything they tell you!  They lie to you right up until they call and fire you.

This is all part of the cost-saving plan..first, send your American MTs work to India so we sit here
with nothing and then manipulate the way the lines are counted. Sounds like cost cutting at our expense to me.

One of the reasons the work is sent to India at night is because very few MTs will work past 6 p.m.  I work a split shift and am shocked at how many MTs will only work between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mon-Fri (not 12 hours but only hours between those.)  Even when they are hired for one weekend day which is the way it is supposed to be now for new hires they don't show up on their weekend day and there are very few of us who work past 6 p.m.  If American MTs want the work they have to work all shifts.  If you are new in a company you get the crappy shifts and days until you work your way up after being their for awhile.  That's they way it is in corporate America-why do MTs think its not they way for them?

They came here and became Americans, so please don't call them dot-heads. The difference in them is that they live here and observe the same standards we do and have to pay bills at the same rates do. I have no problem with them.

I understand the anger, but the real anger shouldn't be at them, but at our own countrymen who advocate it and sell out their own people. There's a fine line between profit and sleaze and shamless greed, and they've crossed it. Some hospitals are strongly against it and they need to start investigating and prosecuting those who trick them, IMO. There are security risks regardless how well software is made. Patient names, dictated S.S. numbers, etc. It's creepy, if you ask me. Anyone can jot the stuff down and they would not be accountable to an American court.

As long as Americans tolerate it, it will continue. Most aren't even aware of it and when you tell them, they're shocked and angry.

The American QA is out the door too. they are using their MEs from India
to do the QA on the foreign based MT and the MEs suck just as bad as the MTs do.

Valuable lesson learned.  Never go to work for a company that is based on offshoring because they'll simply pull the rug out from under you.  I don't mean to sound heartless and I wish I had jobs to offer all the American MTs but I don't.

Those of us in the business a long time knew where their center of business was located from the beginning.

Great bunch of people, plenty of work sm
pay on time, around 9 cpl depending on account (without spaces) or 8 cents line (with spaces). Some accounts use long distance with Laniers others use Emdat, others use a different word-based platform that is real easy to learn.IC only, you commit to a set amount of lines per day, 24 hour turnaround time, they leave you alone to do your work. I would have stayed forever but I needed the benefits.
It's not like we're a bunch of perverted axe murderers wanting to work with
children or the elderly.  It's typing.  Whoop DE doo.  Any FLYING MONKEY could do it.  You don't have to be sane or emotionally stable to type.  Besides, discriminating against people for mental illness is grounds for a lawsuit, isn't it?
Great bunch of people to work with, pay on time, my only problem is that QA is paid by line instead
of by the hour and you must listen to all reports 100% instead of just jumping and filling in the QA markers.

why shouldn't people from India not be allowed to have a part in it? Don't they deserve to make a living too?

I just had to say something about the disparaging remarks made against the American MT.  I think they are the gold standard of the industry.  I have seen the work sent from Third World MTs.  Full read QA often translates to 95% rewrite.  I feel even stronger about owners of companies using the Third World MTs.  Many of the offices warehouse hundreds of sweatshop transcriptionists who cannot leave until they reach their quota.  Any woman should be ashamed of exploiting these women and then trying to exploit the American QA by paying them slave wages to bring their work up to a standard that would fool many clients who do not know where their work is being sent.  I applaud any work that mistakenly gets sent to the client before a complete rewrite by an American editor.  The client should see the value their money is getting.  There is nothing more reprehensible than women getting rich by oppressing other women and what the American MTs are being paid should be an embarrassment.  Please do not tell me about your overhead....every person living has expenses - what makes the MTSO's more important?

 

I am a Canadian MT who will not QA work done in Third World countries.  It is a personal choice.  I will not train them in medical terminology or the English language.  I have too much respect for the hardworking, dedicated women in North American working under the tyranny of companies who monitor their washroom breaks to help the Third World MTSOs make more money off the sweat of their MTs.

 

Yes, American and Canadian MTs have families and lives that may, at some time, require them to take off the shackles of their headsets.  They are women, mothers, wives first .... not indentured servants to the transcription companies.  Many people died for the freedom to speak and that right also extends to transcriptionists.

They send our American work to the Philippines,
Philippines you would not be allowed to work.  Americans cannot get jobs in the Philippines because they are saving them all for the Filipinos - don't know if we'd want them anyway but that is beside the point.  Doesn't seem fair, does it, that they can take our work away from us and we get nothing in return.

To say the work that comes in from India is awful...

... is an understatement. I would pull some of those jobs that had beentranscribed in India and there were some that had entire sections crossed out and retyped because they were wrong (and scary wrong too - wrong medications...). The hospital I used to work for uses them and when I still worked at HealthScribe India was doing this hospitals discharge  summaries. I refuse to use that hospital because I know the transcription will be of very poor quality andI refuse to play games with my health and the health of my loves ones.

AAMT cannot discriminate because of this law (I asked them years ago).  I think 50% of new MTs being from India shows their determination and pursuit of excellence; perhaps American MTs need to follow their example and compete! I challenge MTs to be the best they can, and that is at this pont determined by their ability to pass the CMT exam. Go, girls!

You are a fool to think US work won't go to India
Happened to a group of us. We had a US force and India force, and guess what, it was more cost efficient to send ALL work overseas, hence all US employees laid off. You really are naive to think they won't do that someday, but I hope you drain their pockets dry before they do.
What has sending work to India done?
We have upset the economy of India, creating an even larger rift and making the poor even poorer because we have inflated the economy in the cities and of those who have had a chance to be educated. The poor have lost even more footing.

We have lost job opportunities for our own Americans, but the companies continue charge the hospitals the same amount for transciption, however their overhead continues to drop, corporate salaries continue to increase and our rate of pay stays the same or drops.

India is a country that allows very very little importing of anything made in the US, so it is a 1 way deal for them.

The individuals from other companies do not pay taxes, so we continue to pay to support those in our country who have gone on the public roles for aid and assistance.
Wouldn't it be nicer to have some of these people working again?

The rest of the post was **...SENT WORK TO INDIA A FEW MONTHS AGO** making it sound like MTs were laid off BECAUSE their work went to India.

If you have any familiarity with this company, you know that the none of the DRC/Acusis accounts are allowed by the clients to be typed outside of the US.

So YES, there was a lay-off, but NO it didn't have anything to do with India.

PS: Offshore and outsource are not the same thing. But you know that, too, right? ;-)
It's not just overhiring. They are sending the best work to India.
They have always sent work there but I believe they have geared up these efforts in the past six months, and the easiet work (ER). That is when I noticed there was not consistent work.  I had to move on and so will others.

Is there a way to find out which companies keep ALL their work within the United States?

Well I am another statistic.  I started at Milner Voice and Data back in June.  Things started getting very slow about 4-6 weeks ago.  I asked at least a dozen times what was going on and got the answer nothing it was just slow.  I even turned down another job because they told me it was going to be ok and this was normal.


Monday morning I talked to my supervisor and she said nothing.  Molnday afternoon I went to get into the system and couldn't get in.  Went and checked the mail before I called them and got a lay off notice in the mail!  What a way to notify someone especially when I had been asking for weeks.


Excuse was that the bigggest account (not mine) lost 60% of their volume when the hospital decided to not dictate the ERs because of budget cut backs.  Because of that, other MTs taking my work.  Apparently 9 of us were laid off.


I understand cut backs if there is no work, but I DO NOT understand lying when I asked and asked and asked some more.  Because of all this, the place that offered me a job, hired someone so Milner cost me a job.


O well, I have an interview tomorrow at 2 with another company.  We will see! Really bad way for company to treat MTs.   Stay away from this company and TB!
