Landmark vs MDI...which do I chose?

Landmark only does transcription which is a positive IMO. I would be doing only operative notes (which is my favorite work type) and would be an IC so my schedule would be flexible. No required line count per day. The only thing holding me back is I'm afraid of running out of work (I'm coming from MQ where I have a cesspool to chose from and rarely run out). I would be working on Bayscribe. I could also work 4 days a week (I'm part-time).
I also have an interview next week with MDI. For some reason I have a sense with them it's more secure. Maybe because I see more posts about them and that they are a larger company?
Thanks!

Why I chose MT....
plain and simple I wanted to be home for my children...I worked in-house before I worked at home and am so glad to be working at home...the pros definitely outway the cons....My husband works in sales/delivery and his bennies are awesome..only pays about 30.00 a week for the 4 of us...I am able to work part-time right now because of him...will eventually go back to full-time and more money when my baby is a bit older, only 12 weeks old now...
not sure who you chose but...
Webmedx was wonderful...I worked for them before having my children and absolutely loved them...I needed to cut hours way back so I resigned but I hope to go back as soon as my kids are older.
No they can't just no you can chose to say no to
You are working for them so the client is their client and not yours, hence they can say when they want the work done, but you can say no, I won't do it then. So then, they look for someone else. Unfortunate, but true especially in this profession. Setting hours goes against my grain as an IC. I stay away from those types of positions. Set hours/days, etc. are for employees not ICs, but you can chose not to take their offer.
You should of chose a better
husband if you wanted to be SAHM, plain and simple. Don't play the women's libber's. Where do you live, Utah?
Why do you think because you chose to
work 3rd shift that everyone should? Should we not have a choice? Why force your own choices on everyone else? Should we all freak on you because you say you don't work weekends? It's the same thing... Live and let live....
If was YOU who chose to take on those duties. sm
And it is YOU who decided to take on these duties. If all owners of transcription companies, big and small, would demand higher pay from clients, and not try to undercut each other, they could pay higher wages. And don't moan about then jobs would be offshored. If clients had to get these jobs straight from overseas with no US editing, offshoring would stop immediately.
You are welcome, I chose IC at Medware
as I do not need the insurance. Plus I have always been an IC and I feel more comfortable with that than being an employee, not only at Medware but at other places. I stay busy at Medware so they definately have the work. It's what works best for me right now.
Why I chose transcription..
First off, I do not have a spouse or a significant other.
I went back to a local college to take a transcription course for a few reasons. First, I was working for a credit reporting agency for $5.00 an hour (15 years ago), and to put it bluntly, found out I just could not deal working with the public, especially in the setting where a good percentage of the people you deal with are irate. One of my coworkers mentioned medical transcription, and it sounded perfect for me. I could sit in my own little corner, do my work, and be left alone for the most part. Plus, where I live it is super cheap to live and I was making a lot more money than I did before, allowing me to save up and have a down payment for my house. I had the opportunity back then to type nothing but ERs and I took full advantage of it, working 6 days a week, and there was never a shortage of work.
It was never my choice to work at home. I do miss the interaction with and meeting new people through work. Now I never see an ER note, the work keeps getting tougher with more ESL's, and the pay is going down along with the benefits. Also, someone in India is now typing my favorite account.
I chose transcription
because I loved the medical field (worked at 2 hospitals in the admissions department), but was tired of the politics at work, and having to work with 20+ hormonal, gossipy women in one department. I also wanted something with less patient contact - it was heartbreaking getting to know someone who came in every day for radiation treatments or something similar, and finding out that they only had 2 weeks to live or something. It was awful! SO, I started looking into transcription as something I could do from home - which is perfect for me too, because now I can work all day by myself (with my dogs to keep me company). I don't mind working at home all day without people contact - I almost prefer it that way. I have become a less stressed person for it.
My DH worked as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator before, but needed to find something less stressful on his body. He had built me a massage table for my birthday after we first got married (almost 8 years ago), and then took a course in massage at the local college. He loved it, and decided that was what he wanted to do full-time; so he went to school for it, and now he has his own business as a massage therapist. As he is self-employed, he doesn't get any benefits, so we have individual insurance coverage for both of us. I am actually going to be working for a new company soon that does offer some benefits, so I will at least be covered under group coverage. He will continue with the individual coverage, as it is cheaper.
why I chose transcription
I actually swore I would never do transcription after going through a tech school for Medical Secretary diploma. Hated it. Only job I could find was transcription. I actually left the field for a few years to work at a bank. But then, when I had to take that beautiful baby daughter of mine to a sitter 45 hours a week, I decided to come back to transcription (never left it COMPLETELY, always Filled in), so I could be home with our kids. It was important to both my husband and I, but could not handle it financially without me working. I would not trade it for the world, as I have seen my kids through everything. I know my children, they know me, they know they can come to me. I am there every morning and every afternoon . . . would not miss these memories for the world. It got REALLY tought at times, but well worth it. It's all about the children.
glad I chose JLG over KS

I'm really surprised they chose you
I've read your posts about TT and they seem rather rational and benign. I wonder why they would choose you over, say, that one who posts on here in all caps saying they are 'stealing' her lines and other rants which could be construed as libelous if she has no proof of her claims.
I'm sitting here kind of shaking my head wondering why they picked you, unless you were the most easily identifiable.
Is anyone else named in the suit, or is it just you?
If you need benefits, you chose correctly.

I chose to stick with Clinic.....sm
because, in my experience, they are almost always closed or at least very, very slow on holidays.
So, over the years I decided I wanted a M-F schedule with holidays off. That's why I stick with Clinic notes.
Good luck!
Well there are other MTs who just applied that have said they have to clock in and out and chose
not to get into that so not sure why some do and some dont. Maybe different recruiters. Cant answer that.
Have any of you MDI employees lost your job or chose.. sm
to leave since they switched some accounts to VR? I was thinking of applying but unsure now after reading about the VR switch on some accounts. I wondered how many employees are affected by it and whether or not to consider applying as I am only interested in straight transcription and not VR.
well if you chose to work for a company sm
where you had to find your own replacement that was your choice. This poster did not and she should not be treated like that.
You sound like you are bitter because of your situation. Don't push it off on this poster. Folks like you are the kind that run these companies that treat people like this. I ahve worked in-house with folks like you and that is why I got out of in-house years and years ago! Never regretted it and have made a good living all these years.
sorry...if I chose not to take the benefits as I don't need them. Never heard back. nm

OK - your other post said you chose this account because of the challenge

A job is not an afterthought to me. I had a FT MT job before my children and CHOSE to work PT so I
can enjoy them. I think anyone with children can understand that. I do take my job seriously and work and am a high producer. I enjoy my job but I also enjoy my other FT job, which is my children!
This year they chose one that really is a good company to work for. nm
nm
Wrong. Companies chose to or not to offshore work, nobody makes them. sm
My company does not offshore work, absolutely will not. We've actually gained/kept accounts assuring clients that we do not. We have many clients, cutting edge technology for both customer and employee, a healthy growth rate and a high MT retention rate. It's not impossible to have a successful USA-only based company. Sadly that may not be the norm anymore, but it's a choice MTSO/CEOs (whatever they may be) make and in my opinion maybe cutting some of the bottom line and offshoring is being done in place of producing a high quality of work that keeps a customer happy and not looking around for other service options. Subsequently I think these companies then suffer inferior work further because they are paying less and/or maybe have contractural obligations. Personally I'd like to think they'd still prefer high quality to low prices and inferior product. I have to wonder if these offshore companies are losing just as many accounts because of their product. I just know I am glad I work for a company who doesn't outsource, doesn't plan to, and has every intention to remain successful because quality does count.
I have talked to MANY DSG workers who are badly treated. I chose to move on when I had enough!
Feel sorry for those who are miserable and stay anyway.
That is one of many reasons why I chose to work at home! No thanks to in-house! Good luck. nm

What kind of transcription equipment does Landmark use?
Landmark -sm
Just a warning. If anyone takes a job with this company and decides to leave, you probably will not get paid. My phone calls and e-mails have been ignored and I am getting really angry. I worked for 2 days and hated their system of looking up physicians, leafing through pages and pages of physicians by hand. So, I decided not to stay with them, sent my equipment back immediately and have not been paid. Anyone know if there is anything else I can do, besides hounding them?
TIA - K
Landmark
Does anyone out there know anything about Landmark Transcription? How are they?
Don't go to Landmark
I don't know about Lee Perfect or Keystrokes, but I do know about Landmark. They hired several of us as full time with benefits, then took away our benefits and switched us to IC status! (That's when most of us quit.) There was NEVER enough work. I was lucky to get 10-15 hours of work in my 40-hour week. They're notorious for overhiring. They're sweet and pleasant, but that doesn't pay the bills. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Landmark
I don't know anyone who has had enough work at Landmark. Ever. This goes for MTs and QA. They purposely overhire. Yes, the accounts and platform are great, but there is never enough work. There is a HUGE turnover at Landmark because of this.
To the Landmark ER MTs out there
I am considering a position with them, but I don't want to make the wrong decision. I am concerned about the work load specifically on the ER accounts. If you have experience one way or the other about this, could you please email me privately. Thanks for your time.
Landmark
I've only been with Landmark for about 2 weeks now but haven't run out of work yet. So far I'm really liking it, everyone seems really friendly and helpful.
Landmark
1. You'll be hired full time as an employee with benefits and then suddenly, without notice, be switched to contractor status with NO benefits.
2. You'll be promised full time work, but you'll be lucky to have enough work for 20 hours a week.
3. Your emails and phone calls to the office will go unanswered and when they DO answer, they will tell you to be patient and wait just a couple more months and there will be lots of work. They lie constantly.
I would run as fast I could from Landmark. In fact, that's what I did when I realized all the lies they were telling me.
Landmark
Message to D: Got your email at my personal address. Don't want to write from there, as don't want Landmark to know who I am. Anyway, yes, if you want to be an IC and only want 15 hours a week, then Landmark is perfect for you. My account there was wonderful; I miss that account, but needed more work so switched companies. You'll be fine.
landmark
anyone work there applied there or have any comment TIA
Landmark
My friend works for Landmark - started on acute care and was then moved to an oncology account at her request. She is quite happy. They called me to come to work for them, but I was in the middle of a medical emergency with my son (he was in an accident) and could not take the stress of caring for him and learning a new account. That's not to say that I won't contact them in the future - the timing was just not right for me at the time.
Landmark ????
All transcriptionists who are, or have worked at Landmark, would you please either e-mail me or post here telling me what you think of working for this company... pros, cons, average cpl rate. They have an ad for an oncology job that I am thinking of applying for and would like to hear all the good, bad, and ugly regarding this company. Thanks for your input!
Landmark pay...
Has anyone gotten their paycheck yet? They said noon, but mine ain't there...
Landmark
I just recently started for them. I work part time. So far, I have had nothing but good to say about them but as I have just started, I am not feeble-minded enough to know that things can and will go wrong. I will deal with it as it comes up. As for Bayscrib, it is a lot better than the other account I work for who shall remain nameless. I hate their platform.
Landmark
Landmark is a very enjoyable company to work for. The people are very pleasant, helpful, and they really do care about their transcriptionists. Pay is always on time as well. Overall, a very wonderful company to work for.
Landmark
Being Nice doesn't pay the bills. Yes, the direct deposit is always on time. Tech support is good. QA/supervisors are helpful and supportive. There has often been a problem in the past with lack of work on some accounts. They have previously lost numerous accounts. Now, they have lost enough accounts in a one week period to create an income problem for 40-50% of their MTs. Do you have a solution for those MTs who won't make enough lines to pay their bills or feed their children?
Landmark
I don't quite understand why you would chose to bash me because I chose to say that I enjoy working for Landmark. Let me clarify one thing, I am also an MT who has kids to feed and bills to pay and I also lost my account with Landmark when Landmark lost a bunch of theirs.
I know that it doesn't change the fact that we all have bills to pay and families to take care of. I choose not to blame Landmark for the fact that they lost accounts because they have treated me so well during the time that I was working for them. Losing an account can happen to anyone and trust me it isn't just Landmark.
Should they have work where I am needed again, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to work for them because they really do value their employees and have treated me with complete respect during the time that I have worked for them.
Hard times are everywhere and unfortunately it hit Landmark. Hopefully, in time, they will rebound and all those that lost work/accounts will be back to work soon should they choose to go back.
Landmark
Like MJ, I, too, am very satisfied with Landmark and plan to stay with them. Please remember that all companies, big or small, lose and gain accounts all the time. It is all part of the MT business. We have to be able to roll with the punches. I value this company for its honesty, integrity, for the professionalism of its QA staff and for its excellent tech support. In short, it is an excellent company. It does not offshore. It operates from a position of honesty and integrity. This is an issue that should be of vital concern to every American MT who values his or her job in this profession. The temporary slowdown in work is just that, temporary. I am very satisfied here, as are many people I know. I plan to stay and give Landmark my full support.
Landmark
I would have to respectfully and politely disagree with another MT. The accounts I have worked on at Landmark have not been bottom of the barrel accounts at all. They have been very straightforward, clear, good, acute care accounts which, incidentally, had fewer ESLs that the previous company I worked for.
Landmark
I love this company but I have been off work for a couple of days sick. Can someone clue me in and put the initials of the hospitals that they lost accounts on. I was offered another job and I may just take it if there is no work for me to go back to tonight. I love the people, the tech support, the work was easy as pie, the platforms were easy. It will be a shame if I have to leave them. I have over 30+ years experience. Maybe they were too lenient with their MTs. I still care about these people. I have never had a problem at all.
MDI-MD or Landmark?
I am looking for a company that uses Bayscribe and I know that both of these companies do. Has anybody gone to work for MDI-MD or Landmark who can tell me what there is to know about either company, good, bad, etc.? If you had your choice, which one would you choose and why? TIA.
Landmark vs. MDI
I was told that Landmark does pay for spaces. Are you free to share what has not gone well with MDI for the folks you know? Why are the others struggling? I need to avoid a situation of not enough work--that is what I am trying to get out of. (I am head of my household and need a stable income.) If you are more comfortable sending info in a PM, that would be great. Thank you.
Landmark
I worked for Landmark for almost a year. They really don't care about their transcriptionists at all. They usually get big accounts, hire like crazy, then after a few months said accounts go to VR, and if you don't want to do VR, you're out of a job. They don't have a lot of accounts, so moving to another one was not feasible.
How was QA with Landmark?
Was it difficult getting off full review when you started? Just curious.
Landmark QA
My friend who recommended Landmark says they have the best and also the kindest QA person in the whole world. My concern would be having enough work. (I have a little boy to support.)
Landmark
The supervisor/QA person is awesome. There absolutely is not enough work to go around! This company has mostly slush accounts or subcontracts from other services for work. They have lost a lot of accounts in the recent past. Some of the accounts that are left are truly lousy work, not that there are many accounts. You should NOT consider this company for full time work, possibly not even for much part time work. Some accounts have no work available weekends or evenings.
