I, too, have a serious work ethic and make 50k+ a year. And no, I do not work overtime.

Thank you. Your upcoming trip sounds wonderful. I would have never worked two jobs if I had not started at the first of the year with a company that was constantly running out of work. Nice wonderful people but I am not going to trust my career to them.
LTMT
Oh, yeah, I went to work for a company that (I learned later) is apparently notorious for running out of work all the time. It darned near bankrupted me and my family.

It sounds like you have a great fit for yourself. I have never worked for Keystrokes or had any dealings with them. I think that the key (no pun intended) is your sentence I AM VERY HAPPY THERE. If you have found happiness, you have found what most people are looking for. I feel the same way about MDI--I have found my ideal match. A friend of mine, a very shy person by nature, purposefully chose Spheris because she wanted a big company where she could be one of the many. That would drive me crazy, but it suited her just fine. I think the key (again that word!) to all of this is that there are different needs for each person and we all need to respect each other's choices. I am glad that you found such a good place for yourself and wish that every other MT is as happy as you and I are at the end of the day. Take care.

In California, the bus drivers (at least in the big cities) are unionized and they really DO make the big bucks. (But they have a lot of stress. Can you imaging driving a bus in LA or SF? Not for me.) I guess I should no worry, though California will be bankrupt in 46 days if Arnie is right.

When I first moved to California 25 years ago, it WAS paradise. Sadly, it has really fallen in apart in so many ways. I would not advise anyone to move there now. Waaaay too expensive and too aggravating.
LTMT, you're not
Carol R, are you?
Thank you LTMT!! I was hoping...
to hear good things! I am training on Thursday and I am really hoping this will be my permanent home. Thank you for giving your opinion, it is much appreciated!! Cute doggie!! Have a great day!
Hey LTMT! It's me the MT who was offered the
E-Trans plus job same time as you and we spoke here before! I hope you like Keystrokes. I worked there briefly and thought they were very nice, but had to leave for personal reasons... May this job be all you hope it to be!
As I mentioned before, I am at MDI now, and just took a 3rd shift with Transcend too, and there is a lot of work there for the lean times, so I won't be broke anymore. I love both jobs. So, I hope that finally is a success story for you and me after all the job hunting this year! Merry Christmas to you and Happy 2009!
Name her and Shame her, LTMT
Get the word out before she does this again, and I'm so sorry you're going through this. Whether $338 or $38, you earned it and you deserve to be paid, too.
These people stiffing MTs never fail to amaze me. What a bunch of soulless monsters.
LTMT, just wondering if you still work for GBJ and
if not, why you left. Sounds like a good deal.
LTMT - Do you still work for WestTran?
I was wondering about this company. I think you said you had worked for them. I could be wrong, but I also think management may have changed? Any scoop? Feel free to e-mail me... Thanks in advance....
BTW LTMT saw you were to start with E-Trans. How
is it going? I never started with them as planned, things got put off so I stayed put at my old job.
Hey LTMT: Was wondering if you still recommend
I am thinking of applying at Encompass and wondered if you were still there and if you like it. I am running out of work where I am. I originally was hired at E-Trans plus, and you and I wrote to each other on this board, but the account did not start on time and I had to stay put at my original job. Thanks for any comments about Encompass or any other good job lead. You seem to do great research!
Thanks for sharing your information LTMT!
Wow, you have been through a lot and I admire your ability to bounce back. I just know whatever company you choose to work with you will do well, and good luck on your move! Thanks too for the feedback on all the companies. I thought that E-Trans was very nice too, but decided in my heart I did not want shift work, and since it did not work out the first time (the ExText account), I would just pass. I am going to keep Encompass in mind for the future because they seem great like you said, and I have the quality but have been in this for so many years, don't want to be stressed out. Like you, I get insecure, and that is when I do worst. LOL.
I wish you all the best. For me, I am now going with MDI-MD and know that if I maintain my quality and my flexibility I can stay away from shift work. I think we all need to put priorities and what we need to do in life and then hang onto our decision. Rough seas, but if you hang on to the life boat the storm always passes and we always seem to make it.
Thanks for writing and all the best to you! :)
Thanks LTMT! You have boundless energy,
and it is amazing how we have tracked each other through our job searches. We almost worked together at E-Trans, but missed a few days and Keystrokes, but missed each other about a year. I am glad you have found a place like Cardioscribes you consider home and DTS! Now, do remember to take some time for yourself... at least 10 minutes just to dream dreams, because after all that is why we work, so some day we can afford to live the dream! Happy Holidays and great to see you too!
You see, LTMT, another case of ingratitude.
You gave a lot of good hints on good companies and this is what you get in return. Thanks for it.
Why to bother, really!
sorry LTMT I didn't see you post before sm
I put mine about the pay for straight versus VR. Makes no sense to me either.
I think you're one of the smart ones LTMT
It's sad to see that apparently what was also once thought to be an excellent company is also biting the dust. I don't know of anyone who has doubled their production on VR. When you factor in the 4 cpl for VR and the no work, most I know are borderline bankrupt. I think they can get a ton of newbies to take a dictionary and edit VR. I do not think it takes the same skill as straight transcribing. So they can take a whole herd of those so desparate to work at home they'll put up with anything and they just keep a constant stream of low income, really probably unskilled people, give them a Dorlands and a handy drug reference book and tell them to hop to it. When they starve out, there are plenty more to take their place. They have to keep hiring to keep this new system rolling. This is just my 2 cents worth but about the only thing that makes much sense to me.
If she doesn't do the right thing, LTMT....
Then drag her out of the shadows and into the sunlight and exposure her like the blood sucker she turns out to be.
I get so angry when these MTSOs stiff the hard-working MTs. They must have no conscience whatsoever.
Keep us posted, k?
I registered with just my LTMT name, not my given name, and a hotmail address I use. sm
It was just a suggestion. If I ran a company and saw all of the obvious discontent posted here, it would be a pretty big wakeup call. You can say they already know, etc., but perhaps they do not know just how many people are thinking of leaving the company.
Again, it was just a suggestion. To those who say that they have already expressed their plight to Dorothy in an email or by phone, then there shouldn't be any concern about anonymity when posting it on the discussion forum.
In answer to the person who suggested they have lowered their pay scale with the new hires, I believe that is true. The top of the pay scale to new hires, I think is 10 cpl or something -- not sure exactly.
Agree LTMT.......I saw your post as just helpful
xx
TO LTMT: You posted below that you work FT for Keystrokes (sm)
and PT for Smart-Med. I work for KS and I didn't think I could work for anyone else. I thought I remembered reading something about it in the Employee Handbook when I was hired. New handbooks are coming out this week...but just wondered if it really is OK with KS to work PT for someone else. TIA.
Glad you are happy there LTMT!!! You and I were hired
I never could make that work, so went to Transtech instead. I had suggested for you to go to Keystrokes, because I worked there for a very short time and knew they were wonderful. I just wanted to touch base and let you know that I have thought of you and glad you finally found a company which appreciates you. For me, I reapplied to Keystrokes, but because I left them previously (it was a second job and I could not do 2 jobs full time), they have only responded that they got my resume, and they never again offered me a position. You are lucky to be in a good place, and I am very glad to hear things have worked out... all things happen for a reason! All the best... from your friend from the E-trans plus days...
Agree with LTMT about Keystrokes..I've been there nearly 3 years (sm)
I had a bumpy patchy for a while with no work but the owner herself and some of the office staff worked with me to find a good secondary account that I couldn't be happier with.
