$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm
I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.
I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.
I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.
how long are the reports on average?
I've only been paid by the line, so have no idea how many reports do you do in 8 hours? Curious, thinking of applying for MDI-MD radiology account.

I average around $30 an hour on VR.
I get 5 cpl. I had to work to get there but I make a little more on VR than I do with straight transcription now.

but some days I do have to work over 8 hours to make it work because of things going on around the house, this will definitely disrupt things

I am curious to hear about your union attempts but I will never join. I will be one of those taking up the jobs given up by those who attempt this.
You are entitled to spend your time, energy and money where you wish. I hope you don't come out of this attempt feeling defeated or hurt but I am afraid that will be the case.
So, for your sake I wish you well but I will not be a supporter of the union.
What about line counts? What do you average an hour?

150-170 lines per hour is pretty average.
Imagine that times 40%. 150 x 40% increase using an Expander is another 60 lines paid per hour. At $.07 per line, it's the difference between $10.50 an hour at 150 lines or $14.70 an hour at 210 lines. Work smarter, not harder.

20-25 reports an hour LOL
I don't know where you come from or who you work for, but I make VERY good $$$ as an MT rad and 20-25 reports/hr is only for short bone/chest xrays. I do many, many involved CTs, interventional, MRIs, etc - many more of these than xray. Clients are very happy with my work and have sent emails thanking me. In fact, I am a top producer on the a/c's I work on. So do not try to tell me. One a/c I work on is a very majorly large a/c with over 100 MDs with a simple system.
The hospitals in my area pay 13.75 per hour. I type 250 LPH on average. sm
that means that I make $0.055 per line. Yes, I get to use their computer and get benefits, but if a service is offering benefits that are comparable with a better line rate, plenty of work and I get to stay out of the cold and ice every morning in winter and humidity and heat every morning in summer, put fewer miles on my car during these high gas price times, wear sweats and p.j.'s, the choice is easy.
Now I just need to find the right company.
I just wanted to post because I read the posts about benefits and pay and thought they actually sounded pretty good. Am I missing something?

10 reports per hour for QA workers???
Is it reasonable for an MTSO to expect QA to QA 10 reports per hour....when working on several acute care accounts? For the most part it is blanks only, but sometimes there are also full listens.
Sorry. I know our QA people have to have so many reports done per hour and it is almost impossible
to do that plus all the other things put on them besides so a lot got sick of the stress and quit. They have monthly reviews to do as well so they are constantly stressing so who knows how the quality holds up for QA as well as MT. Seems like quality is secondary anymore to low cpl and the amount you can throw out. Hospitals that I always thought were fussy are now sending work offshore.

that their minimums are fair. QA standards are very high, which makes me proud to be part of a company that cares about quality. Quantity standards are also high, but so is my paycheck.
1800 lines is easily achieved. I average 300-340 lines per hour. nm

Typing ER reports and radiologogy reports
are completely different with regards to pay. For typing regular reports, that is a very fine line rate. For typing radiology reports, it would be horrid.

nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
If that's $9.50 an hour, that would be just under 6.5 cpl at 150 lines an hour. nm

Are there any QAs out there that are getting paid by the hour at 15+/hour? If so, where are you and
how are the work conditions/requirements/benefits,etc?
For example, I count every hour on the hour with my job
and while I was posting here and also checking email in between I averaged $22 an hour for 2 hours, not bad for someone who is a) slow or b) does not have a lot of time in transcription work; therefore making me a prime candidate for VR.

I posted this down below but meant to post it as a new thread. Before I apply with them, I would like to know as I left Transcend a few months ago and do NOT want to get back into that mess.

No one can help you unless you have an average
line rate. If you were doing 1000 lines/day then the answer would be easy, but if you have no experience and little education you're not going to be making that number of lines for months. You will be making minimum wage or less for a while.

Yes, I average about 250 LPH and they do have some ESL
physicians. Many of their accounts are bad. I like the work though, the people and my team
Actually $1.10-$1.25 is the going average.
I work for a small MTSO at $1.10 a report and make more now than I did working for MDI-FL at $1.15 a report and another company at $1.25 a report. The work is steady and I easily get 200+ reports in 8 hours with no weekends. I don't think $1100+/week is bad pay but others might disagree.
If you get $1.25 a report but are unable to get over 100 reports - you are not making any money. Do the math and do what works best for you. Good luck!
$1.10 seems to be average...
Altho I make $1.50 and was just offered a job for $1.70, so if ya look around you can make more than the standard $1.10.

can add my own past to the bucket. I had a base of 35K, and made bonuses on top of it. The bonuses were paid in chunks based on how long the MT stayed. So unlike some negatives I've read here, many times a recruiter only gets paid a bonus if the MT they hired stays with the company so many months. A very good year netted me 55K.
The work was stressful and long hours. Very stressful was coming on the Internet and seeing your name slung through mud on the bulletin boards. Some MTs would say that they weren't told things, when you absolutely KNEW they were because you kept a checklist as you talked.
Perhaps the most stressful part was being told one thing by the supervisors and owners about what accounts were like, what the shape of the company was, etc., and then relaying that publicly, only to find it wasn't true. The recruiter takes the fall for things like that in the MTs' minds. Unfortunately, as a recruiter, you only know so much and only control so much.
There are recruiters who will say anything to hire an MT. There are also honest ones. I am no longer a recruiter, but I'm proud that I always told the MTs the absolute truth and was the most successful recruiter for my national. It proved that you could be honest and still successful. Oh, and it helps to have been an MT before. I would never trust a recruiter who hadn't been an MT for a national!
Sorry so long. :) The pay can be good, but NEVER take a recruiting position that is commission only. There are too many factors out of your control, and those who hold the money will have too much control of your pay. Only accept one with a base pay that you would live on without assuming you'd make any bonuses.

This is certainly not the average. I would have to work 2 entire 8 hour shifts to average 3000 lines on my account. The highest I ever got was 1500 lines and that was because I happened to get a lot of template dictations that day. Ordinarily get maybe 1 or 2 a day, sometimes none.
