Plus, they do overflow accounts...sm
Their work is on overflow accounts where they're a partner with a very dishonest and disreputable larger company who has been outed on this board many times for the horrible treatment of their MTs, etc. I would have nothing to do with them. On the account they're hiring for you may work one day and then be pulled off for the next several days, all without pay. It's a push-pull situation and not fair to any hard working MT. All these companies that do the overflow work should be ashamed for not telling prospective employees about this upfront, but they don't. They wait until you've taken the tests, filled out mountains of paperwork, and just Really want to get to work, and then you find out....it's just wrong on so many levels.
Plus all my accounts are overflow which I
was not told when I was hired. My STM says they are not, but they all maintain in-house transcription departments and make sure that their MTs have work before sending work our way. How can you NOT call that overflow?
they are (or were) strictly overflow accounts
so it was feast or famine. Private or paranoid?? QA person was so nasty. The overall manager had such a flat affect - never sure if it was just to keep us away or whether depression played a big part.

Games?? Did you ever try to verify your line counts? My accounts were typed with set margin and supposedly they were adjusted to come out to 65 character lines, but you could never come up with the right number of lines, no matter what line count program you used. I think they count part of the report with one margin and use a different margin on others. We had no support - technical or managerial - on weekends, evenings, or holidays. You just fly by the seat of your pants and hope you don't mess too much up.

I also did not like having to buy all the expensive equipment you had to have, like only a Cisco modem, at $350 or more, etc.
They do not take on overflow accounts anymore either. sm
It must be another company.
my guess: 1 is accounts they have and 2 is overflow.
cc
Yes, I work on solid accounts, not overflow.

What is the downside or upside to companies that have overflow accounts. nm

Pros and cons on companies with overflow accounts. nm

It's true. At least on my accounts, it has been
quite slow for several months now.  I am hoping it will pick up soon as I think MDI is a great place to work.  I am confused as to why they are hiring new people right now, unless other accounts are busy, because I know it's been a struggle to get lines on my accounts for awhile now.
this is not true for all accounts
The FL account still pays downtime, no OT at all, plenty of work (holidays are slow, but they give downtime for no work), and you don't have to use your vacation time before anniversary.

But you have to work Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday and probably have to start on the 3-11 p.m. shift.

I really like this account. Perfect fit for me.
So true. So many accounts used to be so busy
When was the last time you saw overtime or an incentive offered?  Accounts that used to be super busy are now empty all the time.
That's not true. There are other accounts that have returned. sm
Possibly you no longer work there? Because otherwise you would know that a client who left to try another major transcription company has since returned in full force with a full contract, as has another. Also, a current client has recently signed on more clinics. There is a LOT of work now.
That is not true on all accounts. Mine is always out of TAT with plenty of work.
The teaching hospital accounts are pretty busy all the time. Ask to be put on one.
They frequently don't pay or (sm)
pay months later.  I worked for them a few years ago and the work was awful.  Very bad ESL PA dictating for several doctors on the account I had.  They advertised on their web site that they paid for spaces, and I found out they didn't.  Their excuse was that they changed software and hadn't changed the web site yet.  As far as I know, to this day, the web site hasn't changed.  I finally quit when the paycheck wasn't coming...and wasn't coming...and it finally arrived a couple of months later. However, I think I was the lucky one because at the time there were a lot of people not being paid, and I have still read posts about them the last few years, some recent, of people not being paid.
See posts quite frequently here,
out of New Hampshire.
Consider that the most frequently used words
have 3 letters or less, so 25% or more of the space taken by that word would include at least 1 space.
They are frequently under new management because

the majority of the people have no transcription experience and are in it for the money only.  It was so bad when I was there the only way to go was up.

frequently job ads say no satellite sm
one person said (so-called PC person) said might be because the signal can be picked up out of air and system/data can be compromised.  Not certain this is reason job ads say this for certain.
The archives said that they ran out of work frequently
and that they outsource to India.  Was hoping things had changed.  Do they pay for spaces, headers/footers, bold, etc.?
They offshore. They are frequently changing

how they pay.  I was originally offered a cpl rate for MT, then offered another rate to QA the offshore work.  Someone in the week or so is saying they are offering  to pay like 5 cents per thousand words.   I thought the sound quality of the files was poor and the few dictators I listened to not so great.   They used to be named something else, but I can't remember what - Transcription Solutions or TSI (I think).  They are out of Texas.

If you read through old posts you'll find more info, nothing particularly good.

They have been mentioned frequently lately. Read
the archives and you'll find lots of answers.
Does work for Webmedx and is frequently
out of work on ER accounts. If you type acute work you may have more than enough and that is great, but the ER side is frequently low or out of work and I do have multiple accounts.
I love WMX but WAS frequently running out of...
work on my 3 accounts and 3 work types. I primarily do ER work, can do clinic, but cannot handle acute care and I admit that. Overall, WMX is a GREAT company to work for. A great since of community and family there. They never hesitate to let us know we are appreciated and that we are the reason they make money, and they have the best benefits of any National out here...by far. My one and only problem was work....or lack of it. However, after a long talk with my supe yesterday she now understands and has given me 2 extra accounts for the next month until a new clinic account is added and I will be put on that as my primary. I did have to take a measure that kind of grabbed her attention, BUT I don't think that is the case with supervisory staff. I also don't think the west necessarily knows what the east is up to at times, and though I myself am on the east coast, my primary and secondary, as well as my supe are all on the west coast. Anyway...overall, WMX truly is a great company, I was not looking for something else because I wanted to leave them, but because my hubby has been out of work for 4 months and I need to earn a paycheck, besides the fact that I just love my work.
Frequently the work our company gets -
from some accounts is already old and out of TAT before we ever even receive it! Then they squawk about their precious TAT! Half the STATs that come my way aren't marked as such, either. I only find about that it is STAT when I get to the VERY END of the report, and the doctor says, 'Oh, by the way, this report is STAT, and I need it for surgery by 7:00 tomorrow morning, (which as I'm sitting there typing it at 3 in the morning, is only 4 hours away, and I just HAPPEN to be typing at 3 AM because I have insomnia.)

My supervisor actually said today that she wants me to get that ridiculous 'CMT', too! Ex-CUUUSE me? After 30+ years, I don't think 3 little letters of the alphabet are going to earn me any more money, do you? Forget it... I'll work as a checker at K-Mart before I'll waste my hard-earned cash on that stupid 'certification'.

Never fails to amaze me that MTSOs think we MTs are what cause them to 'lose accounts'. No, it's their inept business management that loses accounts. Most of THEM should be fired!
Prevention frequently gives free subscriptions. I
guess they think they'll make money when you renew, but they are so full of ads and not much useful information I don't know why anyone would want to renew.
Definitely search archives. Its posted frequently. I know its AOL, and some combo of her name! Try
a search of archives on Keystrokes! Good luck!
I'm glad they pay you on time. When I worked there, they frequently "fudged" sm

on the date they would mail the checks out.  In my contract, it stated that they would be mailed from Oldsmar or Tampa (I cannot remember), and they would adjust the postage meter to read the date it was supposed to be sent out, but then the postmark from the post office would be several days later.

My experience was much like the other posters.  They hired me at 10 cents per gross line and gave me a crappy account.  I was switched to a clinic account, and I was making lines hand over fist, but then they switched me back to the crappy account.  And when work would dry up, I'd call and Crystal would just laugh and tell me to take the day off.

I'm glad if they had improved.

We post frequently for a couple of reasons. Not only are we constantly hiring for new business, but
regularly keeps your ad near the top of the list. In my experience, we get far more responses when our ad is in the first ten. Hope that helps explain it.
NC OVERFLOW
Very experienced RAD, ER MT, can train on site in the Raleigh area but prefer to work at home if possible.  Pay by report or exam only.  Can cover odd hours, holidays and weekends for the right situation.
I did overflow for them and there were
horrible.  At our local Kindred doctors that can't get a job anywhere else go to Kindred.  I would get dictation that was 6+ months old.  I was a subcontractor so don't know about insurance.
Does DSG do a lot of MQ overflow?
I worked at MQ and accepted a position with DSG.  After finishing the paperwork, I began to receive account specifics for DSG and noticed that some of those accounts were accounts I had worked on for MQ.  At the time, I just assumed that the accounts had been lost to DSG.  Are you saying that MQ contracts with DSG to outsource their overflow?  How long have they been doing this?
I don't know about MQ overflow but I have not
x
They may be doing overflow. SM
I don't think they are lying, since JMH in Miami sends all their work to India. It looks like they have every hospital account in Miami, Fl.

One thing, though, as far as I know, Diskriter has Broward General Medical Center, but this company may be doing overflow work.

Why haven't we heard of this company before? They sound huge.
NOT overflow
I have worked there for almost a year and it is definitely not overflow work.  I don't know what account you worked on but there is plenty of work on the accounts I work on except maybe the last day of the pay period.  Don't listen to these negative people...
yes, it is overflow
I worked there for a few years sometime ago. They actually told me that most of the accounts they have are overflow accounts. That is what they go after. They had possibly 1 account that was not overflow, but they lost it.
All are overflow. nm

overflow work
I work 20 hr/wk for SPi/CyMed on radiology. They need radiology MTs for Tue-Sat schedule right now. I work Sun-Thur. I have no benefits but I'm on social security and this works gret for me as a supplement to my SS check. I've been with them 1 year this week. I'll be out for hand surgery in a few weeks and I know for sure they'll need somebody then! I also know my supervisor will work with you on scheduling. I work for the Ohio office but I live in South, hurricane alley. Yes, Katrina got me but I have bounced back! I don't know if it's OK to give out my super's phone number, but if OK with admin of site, e-mail me for info. Best regards!
It is also only p.r.n./overflow work
I left a lot of blanks as well.  I'm not so sure I could strain that much.  Being overflow work is tough nookies to find a rhythm as well and I wonder how spaced apart the time would be before receiving the dictation.  Glad I'm not alone as even volume control and slowing down/speeding up was not really helping at all.  Oh well....  only lost about 1/2 an hour all in all.
-Overflow help needed-

Posted By: JMT on 2007-08-31

I am a small MTSO and I need overflow help with neurology and orthopedics clinic notes. Work would be available once or twice per week, for now. I will pay by PayPal per job completed or weekly by snail mail, your choice. Testing is required. Please send resume and pay requirements if interested.

Not all companies are overflow. nm
nm
Yes, it is all overflow - and there is not enough work for everyone! no msg
00
Whether or not they only do overflow is irrelevant. Don't you think?? nm
x
Aren't they ALL overflow?
I haven't seen one real account that WMX has - only overflow, which gets yanked away from us everytime the hospitals get slow so that their own MTs have work.

That is the biggest drawback to working for an overflow company.
How do you tell if acct u do is overflow? nm
nm
By not overflow, do you mean they have no in-house...sm
MTs and we do all work types for them? I wish I were on your team. Sounds great.
I also do overflow work for a clinic..
I charge 10 cpl, but I know that their other replacement charges 12 cpl. If it were a specialty clinic (mine currently is family practice and easy work), I would charge no less than 12 cpl. I'm not sure but it may also depend on where you live geographically.  I live in Idaho so I'm sure since our cost of living here is fairly cheap and that would be the standard. If you live in a larger place, maybe you could easily ask for more. Just giving you my input..
I do some overflow for the Ohio office...
I work out of a different MQ office but have been doing some overflow work for the Ohio office. I only work on one account for their office, but it seems to have a lot of work. Not too many ESL docs, though there are a couple of tough ones. With the account I am on, mostly the dictators just speak very rapidly, but with time I've been able to get more comfortable with them.

Good luck to you!
I got hit with router, but they only do overflow work
and we ran out of work constantly. They play favorites big time, so the good work goes to a few people and the rest of us got the left-over garbage. The tech ruined my computer and that cost me a big bucks to get fixed.
Does anyone know of a company hiring for overflow OPs?
I am in the market for a position where I could pick up some work here and there.  I want a position where I would be contacted for overflow work, when the loads get too high.  It could be for any work type, but Ops are my favorite! I have 13 years (full-time acute care) experience.  Just looking for extra work.
I work for a company that does overflow and I have been

with them for 5+ years.  I have never not had any work and rarely has there been a day when there weren't extra lines available.  A couple of times the hospital's system has gone down and they have asked if anyone wanted a a day off, or could adjust their schedule to work different hours than usual, but I think that has only happened twice.    I have a lot of dictators, though I tend to get the same 30 or so regularly.

It all depends on how the contract is setup, if they get a certain # of minutes a day, or if they just get whatever in-house can't handle.

anyone know of overflow or vacation work available?
I work 2 jobs that I love, but both of them are 2-3 times a month and average 100 minutes of dictation at a time.  I rather like the nature of this work as it is given to and I usually have 2-3 days to complete it.  I have lots of experience--ER, other hospital (except ops), psychiatric hospitals and offices (which I loved!), specialty clinics of all types--it's just that I really don't want to give up the 2 jobs that I already have and love, so I would like more of the same kind of thing.  I thought overflow or filling in for vacations would be a good option, if I could find it.  Anyone know of anything like this?  I am considered an excellent Transcriptionist by all whom I've worked for.
