It is a $2 difference in a day, not $20 (0.02 cents) - sm

so $20 over 10 days if you worked 10 days straight 100 reports every day that is. (0.02 x 100 is $2.00). I know I don't do 100 reports a day, maybe 100 minutes though. I have worked for one company that did not pay for spaces, that this one counts a line at 55 characters is a point in its favor at least, (where I was it was 65 char.) So while they are still being shorted at least it is not by much (i.e. $40 a month at most....probable more like $20). Of course that does not make it right, just pointing out that it was not as bad as you thought.

13.5 to 20 cents is a large difference to pay. Naturally MQ would get 20.
Something told me that they got just as much as they used to and this shows they do. I hope all the smaller MTSOs would stop lowering their rates based on what they **think** are going down. If MQ can get 20, so can they.
2 cents more per line is a big difference, if you do the same work
I do not know if you'll make more at Spheris, but they do pay on time, their supes and QA are decent, insurance is not, and they have incentives, and overall are okay except they offshore.
What is average? 7 cents, 8 cents, 9 cents? 65-character?
x
I also work for 8 cents a line. I left a job typing OPs for 10-11 cents sm
to take a clinic job. I made an average of $17-18 an hour with OPs, now make $16-17 an hour, but the work is easier on me. I do not call that poor pay. I type 200+ lines an hour. True, it isn't the $26-27 an hour I was making 10 years ago at a hospital, but that's gone for good. I have excellent skills, make better than 99% on QA at any company I have worked for, and some of those have been very demanding.
I'm afraid the people that are expecting to make $20-30 an hour in MT are going to be disappointed. A few can still make that amount, but for the average good transcriptionist, the pay is much more likely to run $15-20. Benefits are pretty much gone. However, I feel that what I'm making is considerably above what I could make in another field, unless I decide to teach, which I will not do. Still, I make more than I would at Walmart or Burger King, or even a secretarial job. It's my choice. Good luck to you.
The mentoring program does not pay 8-1/2 cents per line. Believe it is like 6 cents.

4 CENTS , SCHMORE CENTS. THAT'S WRONG!
Whether an MT is new or an editor, 4 cents a line is deeply insulting, and 9 cents per line isn't really too much better. You know, I understand that most of these MT companies want to save money, but most of them don't seem to want to pay what an MT's time and skills are really worth. Why not pay an MT who has been in the field for 7-10 years or more 15 or 20 cents per line? At least I might consider working for one of these companies at home if I were to be paid that much straight off the bat for having 12 years' experience, but I guess that would be too much like right...
Do they still pay you 5 cents a line and 2 cents if you send anything to QA?
xx
I have a problem with 7 cents and 8 cents a line because
...when I started 15 years ago, my very first MT job started me out at 8 cents a gross line, then went to 9 cents a gross line after only a year. I was SOOO happy and proud of myself for choosing a profession that paid so well - I imagined myself making a lot of $$ once I had 10 or 15 years experience behind me...
Well that never happened; in fact, it all went backwards, pay wise. The company I worked for back then sold out to a national, and of course the pay was cut, and 9 cents a gross line was never to be had again, at least not that I could find. I am considered living in poverty now. I started out great but have ended up very badly.
I think my own personal problem is that it's hard for me to let go the fact that I made good money just starting out and how everything I had ever learned about jobs, careers and pay was that the more experience and education you have in a particular field, the more your pay goes up as each year passes. Well my pay has been consistently taking a nosedive for at least a decade now. I actually have to work MORE to make at least as much as I did years ago, and it's killing me health-wise as far as my wrists, my legs, my neck, my back....
It also kills me that I'm going to have to accept 7 or 8 cents a 65-character line when I made so much more than that 15 years ago.
I suppose to someone who's just starting out, 7 or 8 cents would seem pretty good, though. Maybe that's why I haven't been able to land any jobs with my resume. They may not want me with my years of experience, probably want a newbie who will be more grateful about such low pay. I dunno.
I could just kick myself for wasting money on MT school those years ago when I could've spent it on a career that would actually LAST and where I'd be making great money after being in the same field for 15 years. There's just no reward to this business. None at all, IMO.
I would NOT recommend this field to anyone just getting started. To me, it's a dead field.
I'd have more freedom working at McDonalds (for a number of reasons), and, believe me, I've been considering taking a local job around my home for minimum wage. At least I'd have a consistent paycheck and would know exactly what I'm getting every 2 weeks, then build from there as far as another job or two.
Well anyway that's all. I really need a job. I'm going down, going under, and it's a shame because I do very good work and have all this experience but no one seems to want me, even the low-paying companies. Oh well.
Few cents here, few cents there stolen from you by

I'll add my 5 cents to your 2 for 7 cents sm
I AGREE WITH YOU!
I know an MT who sits on her laurels and whines about no work and only getting 9 cpl after 5 whole years of experience. She can type 3 specialties, won't touch an ESL, goofs off when there is work and whines when there is not. I have tried to help, but it is quite plain to me she doesn't want that help.
I have about 3 times the experience of the above MT. The only specialty I have not done is pathology. I have literally done everything else. I know the BOS 2 like the back of my hand and I have outstanding accuracy scores (even if I can't type straight here). I work as an employee and make a base rate of 8.5 cpl, which I never get because I always have some of the different incentives offered. I regularly turn that 8.5 cpl into $25 an hour and at my PT job where I get 10 cpl and faster software, I can turn that into $32.50 an hour.
I have heard, more times than I can count from other MTs that they wish they could have my income. I can tell they why they don't. It is called hang out to complain on a message board like MTStars. It is doing everything, BUT your work on your shift. It is your lack of a willingness to learn new things, even if they slow you down some. This very year, recently in fact, I was put on straight cardiology procedure notes and I didn't worry for a second that I would suffer financially. I AM FLEXIBLE and that, in a nutshell, is why most MTs will not succeed.
A long time ago I realized that if I want more money, I was going to have to work SMART, not hard. In my 15 years, I now make 5 times what I did my first year and at the same exact line rate I had then! I spend less time working to achieve that these days. So no, I can't agree with your sky is falling routine.
Most of you...your attitudes suck. If I had to have you on site as my employees, you would not last 15 minutes. The first time I heard you at the water cooler whining about your pay, I'd fire your fanny so fast it would make your head SWIM. I have eyes in the back of my head too, so when you started making that stink face you are making right now, I'd have sacked you for that, on the spot, no warning and no day's pay. The ONLY reason you all get away with this is that you THINK no one who knows you is watching and that your respective contract holders can't figure out who you are.
By and large, I can't tolerate other MTs as friends. I find them lazy, self-absorbed whiners and complainers with some the worst negative attitudes I have EVER seen! If you hate MT so very much GO GET A JOB DOING SOMETHING ELSE. I can tell you, your bad attitude, your tendency to complain, whine, witch (with a capital B), moan and ALWAYS see the most negative side of everything...THAT crap will follow you to that new career and it won't be any better than this one. You have issues and I really think they are issues for a good therapist. They are called personality disorders and many of you have them in multiples and in spades!
I think you should be completely and utterly ashamed of yourselves. Too many people are out of work, homeless, and starving this Christmas to be so opinionated and selfish.

What difference
will it make if you buy or not on July 7? How will this hurt Heartland? I admire your gusto and intent, but do not see how the dots connect......
What is the difference?
I'm just looking into this field as an occupation. What is the difference between a template, a normal and an expander?
The difference is
The kids for the most part are full of life and amusing. The doctors for the most part are arrogent and self-righteous - no fun. Good for you if it pays enough.
I'm believe that it's about an 18-20% difference, so
compared to with spaces for it to be equivalent. So about 10.8 cpl without spaces = 9 cpl with spaces.
The difference is,
they're not applying for a job, just sending a general message rather than a potentially offending personal e-mail. I would think that if anyone reading this thread has done these things and not been hired, they might appreciate the tips . . . however ridiculous it may be that they have done them in the past, or that they did not realize that doing these things appears very unprofessional. Would it be better that they continue to wonder why they cannot get hired?
There may be no difference in pay
regarding shifts, etc. If you are an IC, they can't set your schedule. They are not supposed to anyway. Some people work a set schedule as an IC and that is not good practice. As an IC you should be able to set your own hours. This does not seem to be the standard in this profession with some of these online companies anyway. That's why you make more as an IC because as an employee, they have control over you.
Difference in Pay
Does anyone know an example of the difference in pay in a 65-character line with spaces and without spaces? I did a search but did not find anything. Thanks.
What a difference between
the pro-KS posters and the people who post negative experiences. The pro-KS make insinuations and assumptions about things they could not possibly have any knowledge of, while the other side simply states their personal experience. Pro-KS'ers, you are really hurting your cause with your adolescent posts.
not IC's but SE's -- there is a difference.

I would like to what the difference is too
x
There really isn't any difference.
20 years is 20 years no matter where you worked or how you got the work done. I had anything and everything thrown my way. So, please do not generalize. Even though someone has worked at the same institution does not mean they are not well rounded. Also, please keep in mind the AAMT was not around forever, so the new MTs are learning a new way of doing things. Those of us who have been in this field listened to the doctors' way, and not a book. If a new MT could do what someone with 20 years of experience can do, they wouldn't be on here begging for companies that hire new MTs. That's proof right there that a new MT does not have what it takes at least at first and I'm not knocking the new MTs because they are the wave of the future; however, they need to learn before they can apply it.
Is there a difference?
Repost - Are the H&Ps and consults that are done for hospitals very different from the H&Ps and consults done by large specialized medical practices (such as large cardiology, ortho, GI groups etc.)? I wanted to do hospital H&Ps, consults, discharges for a company but was told by this company that I did not have the experience (acute care), even though I have had about 20 years doing the large specialty practices, large HMOs and a little hospital work. They said that the hospital reports would be too involved for me. I've seen hospital H&Ps, consults and discharges, and they don't look any more complex than what I had done in the past. Any opinions? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
What's the difference?
What is the difference between learning something new at your present employer, or quitting and learning something new with a different employer? Sometimes it makes sense to wait it out or learn something new that your present employer has to offer.
Medical transcription changes daily. It's always to your advantage to learn all you can...new accounts, new platforms...everything you can. The more you know, the more money you make, and the more valuable you are to your employer.
I would like to know the difference here
I have used both 6 and now 8 and frankly I do not see any difference (except how the header looks and much more friendly now) than before. What do you think is different?
Difference (sm)
The subject with the Keystrokes lawsuit is bringing in personal insults and attacks, warring between the company and current/past employees on the board. We are not going to provide the environment for this.
If the topic itself would be discussed, it would stand.

Difference? Pay
There's nothing wrong with working at Wal-Mart unless you are a paraprofessional with skills that enable you to make 3-4 times an hour what Wal-Mart pays.
Generally, when someone in our field references going to work at WM, it's because they've been slapped with the reality of sinking MT pay yet again.
There isn't a profession on earth that I don't feel is admirable. Freeloading is not admirable. Work is.
Re the link I posted, I find it interesting that WM has decided to enter the arena of HIM. They already have their doc-in-a-box ophthalmologists, etc. So they already have been creating some significant databases.
If they look at MT and figure out the profit and the ability to continue low pay for high effort, I truly expect them to expand their HIM efforts.
The difference here
Apparently not going to be much soon as TTS does VR and I hear (by the way of rumblings)TransTech is going to VR. That is all I know about the companies.
So what is the difference in your pay
now since you have mastered VR. Do you make the same as before or have you increased your pay?
There's a big ole fat difference
Between being US-based (i.e., corporate headquarters located in the U.S.) and hires only U.S. transcriptionists. Any company can have their corporate headquarters in Applepieamerican, Illinois but could have half of their staff earning 3 cents a lie in a sweatshop in Ammakandakara. Fat lot of good that does us American MTs, lol.
Wonder what the difference is?
I wonder why more lines can be made on the P account instead of the others? What is so different about that account?
What is the difference between TT, TTS, TTD? Any

What is the difference between TT, TTS, and TTD?

The big difference between
is...
the cars were actually *better* quality as well as cheaper. Not the case with the transcription.
It reminds of the Mechanical Turk. It's a website by Amazon that allows you to get on and do small online jobs contracted by others and paid into a Paypal account. They started it because they found that a computer couldn't not recognize duplicate pages to delete them and so had to hire humans to do it. Mechanical Turk was an machine in the 18th century that could play chest and that supposedly beat the likes of Napolean and Benjamin Franklin, but then it was discovered that it was actually a human chess master inside.
My rather obscure point is that transcription done overseas might end up the same quality as domestic transcription but only after going through extensive edits, usually by American MTs. So, to the client, it ends up looking like excellent quality when, in fact, there was a transcription master behind the machine doing the work.
What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. Offshoring...the patriotic way to create more unemployment, create a bigger budget deficit due to less taxes being paid here in the States (both corporate and income tax), and, in what is touted as a booming field, we find ourselves in a reverse economic anomaly where the field is booming yet salaries are going DOWN.
Yep, offshoring...good for all Americans.
Difference in pay per line?
I posted earlier but may not have been clear.
When you get paid $.08 per 65-character line with spaces and have been making $.09 per 65-character line without spaces, is the end result in pay the same?
Actually, I am comparing work done in Meditech to other platforms out there. Anyone with any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Difference in machines
Can anyone tell me the difference in a C-phone and a Lanier 219? I have found a listing for a DA-128 that can be used with a few different systems. Does that include the Lanier system? I am interested in finding the Lanier XL 219-1 with VTI but I can't believe the prices. I guess actually I can but I want to know if there is a system out there that is compatible or if I need to specifically get the Lanier.
Thank you everyone for your help in advance. If there is no compatible system, does anyone have one for sale?
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

what's the difference between a VA account and one that isn't? (sm)
Are VA accounts harder than regular accounts? Why is it harder to get a good line count on a VA account?
What difference does it make?
Just proving my point. If you expect an MT to perform at a certain standard during a verbal test, no excuses, no exceptions, then you should show that same standard everywhere you go, message boards included.
What is the difference between using a C-phone...
Hi! I am not sure if this is where I need to post this question, but was just wondering what really is the difference of a C-phone and regular dictation using a foot pedal? I have been in the business for MANY years, but never had to use or come across a C-phone. I see lots of things about a C-phone. Just would like some information. I am thinking about taking a job with a C-phone but do not know anything about them. Thanks for all of your help!
No difference. You can have your opinion. So
I'm not an industry bottom dweller...be careful about the name-calling Laurie.
Ahhhhh. Big difference than
just taking a course and getting a certificate. Thanks. I'm not that then. Is there a difference if you are?
Thanks.
What is the difference between specialty
and work type. I am filling out an application for OSi and they want to know my favorite specialty and work type. What is work type? Duh! I guess I am having a too-soon senior moment, must be the stress of job hunting. Thanks!
Me neither. I never noticed a difference...
like the above poster said, it's hard to tell that they are even related to Transcend, unless you are on BeyondTXT and get a lot of their e-mails.
Like that makes any difference? I am IC and the
company has me working hours already set up. When I first signed on was told would have to know which days and hours. I do not know how others do but as an IC am certainly bound to work set hrs.
There is also the time difference.

Difference in systems
I would be interested in knowing the difference between EScription and Dictaphone. I am on Dictaphone and it just does not recognize the simplest of words. Very frustrating.
Difference is night and day
I love Keystrokes! No etime to fill out, ever! Great leads, great office support staff. Pay rate was about the same or slightly above what I made at MQ. I am happy I made the switch.
everything you just said is the difference between you and experienced.
Experienced is a broadened mind. You are thinking just medical words and typing mechanics.
Experienced is pretty much being trained from an account profile (that's on paper, doll, no questions allowed) and making 200 the first day; knowing how the system works INSIDE the hospital on the doctor's end having never set foot on site; being familiar with tons of platforms, systems (theirs/mine), software (theirs/mine), and dictation AS WELL AS transcription equipment (there is a difference).
I other words, not having to take by the hand and walk through the next 3 weeks while backlogs climb. You get what you pay for everywhere but here.
There is a difference between IC and eployee. sm
I look at more the employee part. I congratulate someone such as yourself that can have that kind of time. However, the original poster was talking about being grateful about working at home. As an employee for a company, I see the same resonses as the original poster was talking about. They want to have their cake and eat it too. You, as an IC, go for it all!! Again, I congratulate you on your achievements. However, you just probably have not had to deal with some of the employee aspects of it that I see.
nope - no difference at all. nm
nm
ahhh... maybe that's the difference
I am a hospital employee. Are you?
