To: Used to be Happy,
You are describing a mirror image of your exact work habits, the ones that resulted in your moving to another company. Good Luck!
Alot of ex-YOG people there?sm
Do not know for sure, just what I was told by someone working for Pac-Man in Monrovia. I had an almost 100% ESL account when I worked for YOG. Good pay and on time, but work very difficult.
Alot of BS probably from disgruntled ex
Running out of work? That is the biggest crock of **** I have ever heard. I am so busy right now I don't know in which direction to go. We have so many different hospitals that I don't know which one to do first. Most people that badmouth a company is usually because they could not cut the mustard and got canned in plain English. JLG is one of the top notch companies and one of the best I have ever worked for. They actually care about thier people. You don't find that very often. Anyone who says they ran out of work is just talking out of thier ***
Well, they run out of work alot.
I HAVE FOUND HEAVEN
I know we all hear a lot of negative feedback on many companies for many different reasons, whether it be benefits not being paid, money not being paid, jobs not staying in the U.S. I tried four different companies before I found MDI and made it my home. I have never worked with such a great group of caring, supportive people. I have been transcribing for more than thirty years, on and off, and have found everything I could want in a company, especially working from home. They always have support and someone always answers the phone when you call, you stick to your schedule and you don't have extra people on there taking your work away, you get paid on time, and get time off when you need it with a little advanced notice. The thing that totally blew me away was receiving a package from them the other day with a big thank you card for hard work, and a box full of goodies. I don't remember getting that from employers when I worked on site. If you are looking for a company that keeps their word and has happy longterm employees, MDI is the place to be.
LOL ... Heaven help us if there is a volume II ... eek. nm
I would love 78 cpl. I would be in hog heaven.
.
Thanks. Sounds like Heaven to me. nm
No my account is not from heaven--
rather, that other place! It is a high ESL kinda place.
Being an arm's length away from heaven is no different
If you aren't there, you aren't there. That's the plain truth.
Thanks for OTI input. Helped alot.
Appreciate it. Sounds good to me other than that program problem. They should use word 2000 and be done with it.
You are SO WRONG. I MAKE ALOT MORE sm
I make 10.5 cpl straight without having to meet incentives and I have excellent benefits, family plan, which includes GOOD medical coverage, dental, vision and pay less than $300.00 a month for them. I get paid OT, which is offered often. So don't say these positions don't exist. THEY DO!!!
Same thing happened to me and after alot of
investigation and time on the phone with the labor dept and visiting various attorneys - YOU DON'T HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON. Legally companies can do that. They DO NOT have to pay you overtime - that's why some people are salaried!
My mother used to say oh for heaven sakes....
Even though a company does not offshore does not mean they won't tomorrow, so applying to another company will not solve this dilemma (if you want to call it that). I don't think everyone should quit DRC or whatever the new name is now. I think you all should be just fine! This is not the end of the world. Who knows? This could mean better benefits. I wish you all the best, but I wouldn't jump ship if I were you unless things start to go downhill. If you like the company and know your accounts, why should you? The glass is half full, not half empty, that's what I always try to say! Stay strong.....
How is pointing out one person's heaven is another

Thanks Wendy! You've helped alot! (nm)

The wages offered to MTs with alot of years is (sm)
in addition to the adjectives you used, downright demeaning, and bordering on questioning one's self-worth. I'm really so sick over it because for the past 2 decades I have devoted my life to MTing; gave 100+% each and every day, kept up with the new drugs/terminology (on my own time). I even have gone so far beyond what is expect because of my love of MTing and medicne, that rather than read a good juicy romance novel at bedtime, I'd read one of the doc's I transcribed for leftover medical journals, just keep on top of the game. This was while working inhouse--- and all because I was properly compensated for my hard efforts. Working from home for an online,....that don't give a rats azz....all they want are the lines and 98.5% accuracy at all times. Period. That's just one of the problems with working from home -- the impersonalization that accompanies it. I'm headed back inhouse where I'm appreciated, have a blast with my coworkers, docs, nurses, tecs, and be paid what I am worthy of after doing this for over 1/4 century. No more penny checks for me. No more line counts. No QAing. AMEN.
I give alot more than a "sack of groceries." They
you are so very pathetic.
Focus Infomatics is outsource heaven.
The hospital I typed for, for the last 6 years just left MQ for this company on 10/31/2007. I was crushed, so I found where they went, decided to apply, got a call back from Focus, but decided before I did anything, I would investigate and it was all negative.
I would rather die than work for anyone who outsources.
My old hospital is a trader. I hope they burn!!!
Pay isn't bad, but alot of ESLs. Hard to make money.
NM
This is an excellent point and the root of alot of our problems.
I have been thinking about this very same thing. Some companies want the experienced MTs with decades of experience so they do not have to offshore or pay QA to re-do reports. There are only so many of those jobs out there. Other companies want to get rid of us because we may too much money. They can offshore or have QA clean up the mess a newbie makes.
Then you can go middle-of-the-road, if you will. SOOOOO very many MTs are out there willing to take what we refuse. Where does that leave us?
LET IT GO FOR GOODNESS SAKE
nm
Looks like they pay more at MQ for goodness sake.
Pretty sad.
Oh for God's sake! I said it because it's TRUE.
As I said, I've been an MT for over 20 years. I worked as an MT in house for a hospital for over 10 years. I have a standing offer to go back and work for them at ANY time. The way it is now, I do overflow for them any time they need extra help. I also have had many of my own accounts other than this hospital over the years. Yes, HOSPITAL accounts. Why? Because I'm a good transcriptionist. I have had surgery center accounts, hospital ER accounts, overflow accounts doing ops, discharge summaries and ERs, and psychiatric hospital accounts. I have a couple of doctor offices, but I prefer acute care. When I got tired of the hassles of my own accounts, I applied with a small national that pays very well and only hires people with lots of experience. I have worked for them in some form or other, sometimes more and sometimes less, for about 13 years. When I have heard of something interesting, a job I might be interested in and that I think will pay will, I have applied. Other than the small national, I have worked for JLG. I have applied at various transcription companies over the years and was offered jobs by ALL of them, and have been offered good line rates by all of them, but in the end decided to stay with my own accounts and the small national I mentioned above that I have been with for 13 years. Having been an MTSO myself, I know GOOD TRANSCRIPTIONISTS ARE HARD TO COME BY. I have severely limited the amount of work I COULD have because of an inability to find QUALIFIED MTs. I have been absolutely HORRIFIED over the years at what I have seen produced by experienced transcriptionists.
So when I do apply for a job, the MT companies RECOGNIZE that I am a good MT. Everything I have said is true. I didn't say they fall all over themselves to hire me for the heck of it - THEY DO! And if you had my experience, they would if you applied too. You obviously DON'T or you wouldn't be ridiculing what I am saying. Anyone who is a truly good MT knows that what I say is true. If you are good, you are highly in demand.
Oh for Pete's sake. If you are a TH MT, you know
they do not offshore. Some of their accts are on the border which is why the email is that way. TH does not offshore in any way. One of the few left that does not.
Oh, for heavens' sake! (sm)
If you were at all familiar with DRC, you would know that the current clients REQUIRE all MTs who do their work to be USA-based. Why would the CEO of Acusis spend big bucks to buy a thriving, successful company, then turn around and send the work offshore and lose the contracts that made DRC worth buying in the first place?
Move over, Chicken Little... you've got houseguests for the weekend.
then for cripe's sake please
volunteer to be reassigned to that account so the posts that distress y'all so much will cease. Check back with us in a week or two, okay?

Oh for pity's sake
There are tons of companies out there not on the board at all - I know because I work for two of them and never see anything negative at all about them. Did it occur to you the one's you see here over and over probably deserve much of the criticism?
For goodness sake!
This is whining now, ridiculous.
Oh for Pete's sake
It wasn't a dig. Simply a statement because I didn't take her email the way others implied it should have been taken. There were multiple posts by people earlier about MDI going the way of MQ and making all kinds of other statements to damage the company. I was at MQ when that ship started to sink and have seen nothing remotely close to that here. And as far as having compassion for someone with no work, apparently you didn't read all of my post or you would have read that I do understand what they are going through. I went through the same thing, not for a few weeks like the OP, but for 3 months at MQ and it probably would have been longer had I not decided to finally bail out of that mess. So before you decide to judge me or pretend to know what I think or feel, try reading all of my posts. Actually, don't. I'm sure you will just find some other reason to rag on me because I'm not having a horrible time with my company at the moment. To sum up all of my posts: To the OP down below, I'm sorry for your situation, but no, I'm not experiencing the same thing. To the other posters talking about management as if they are in it, unless you actually are in management and can say something factual, shut up. Regarding the message from Carlotta, all I got from that was take your issues up with management instead of hashing them out on a public forum. And to the snot I'm replying to......WHATEVAH!
oh for Pete's sake!!
they did use Transcriptionist in the body of the ad. Why all the assumptions here anyway. Do they pay on time? Are there any real problems here?
Oh, Fer Pete's Sake!
She quit her job because she was upset about the use of the word NEED??? For all we know, the person who phrased it in a less than acceptable way was not accustomed to handling bereavement requests - I'd have cut him/her a little slack. I'd have taken that opportunity to *educate* the HR person how to handle future requests with a little more tact, not bit his/her head off and complained all the way to the top of the food chain.
And how is the HR person supposed to know what kind of relationship the OP had with her father? or how emotionally upset the OP was or wasn't?
Bottom line, the OP is out of a job and the rest of the company is going on just fine without her. I think that's called shooting oneself in the foot... all for one little word: NEED. sheesh.
Well for goodness sake
spill the name of your company, maybe I'll come out of retirement. LOL
I hope for your sake it is. At MQ, however, when we
were told the new pay rate would allow us to drastically increase our pay, it ended up cutting our pay in half... It sure sounded good though...
I will cross my fingers for you that it will all work out!
Oh, for Lord's sake, fastMT...What's up...
with the racist bashing today? Is it really necessary? My concern is not WHAT anyone puts on their heads, whether it's a bindi or earmuffs, but that Americans' medical records are being sent offshore, to ANY shore.
Explain for goodness sake!
These clip answers do not really help anyone. Why not discuss your reasons why? I would like to get a better picture of why your thoughts are such; otherwise, it leaves everyone going
Oh for Heavens sake! That is old news and all their clients already know about that.
Come up with something new, and maybe people will listen.
Oh for heavens sake! Did it occur to you that maybe she left there for a reason? She
addressed that when she came to Transtech and emphatically that she was not interested in offshoring and they are not going to offshore. Sheesh! She worked for ONE company that offshored and she left that for a reason (didn't like offshore).
Not bragging, for pete's sake. The OP asked about if we run out of work or not. I do not. We a

ESL docs
Im having a very hard time with all the discussion that I see on the boards regarding ESL doctors -- I have been in this business 20+ years and it takes time to develop an ear to be able to understand ESL doctors -- if you have a friend who is an MT, have her on instant message and ASK what the doctor might be saying -- there have been times too, with her and my experience where she has played her stuck spot back and I heard as clear as a bell what the doctor was saying -- unfortunately, the schools with their training don't do ESL doctors and this is the reason that 99.9% of the companies wont hire without experience - PLEASE resign yourselves that ESL docs are going away unfortunately
with ESL docs, you just never know..sm
You could have great ESL dictators, and at .09/line, you would be paid at least close to what a good Transcriptionist is worth (still not enough as our wages are pitiful now). On the other hand, if you have really terrible ESL dictators, that .09 could easily become comparable to making .05/line if you have to slow down to understand the doctor. With ESL's, you really don't know until after you have made that commitment. However, as a previous MTSO, I would never give one person all of the crappy dictators. Rather, I tried to distribute the work evenly to give everyone a fair shot at a decent line count. Good luck in your decision. Try bargaining. Tell them you feel ESL doctors are worth the extra compensation because often times your hourly production is decreased because they do not dictate proper English sentences, mispronounce words etc, and tell them you believe the work is worth .10/line and you will strongly consider the position.
Docs
who eat, slurp, roll hard candy or lozenges in their mouth, sniffing their nose constantly all while speaking....especially the eating while dictating drives me CRAZY! It is just like having a rude person standing right next to your ear eating smacking his food. GRRRRRRRR
the docs may not NEED it but its sm
not for you to decide. If thats what they want and you do their work, then you do it or you don't work. I don't like it either, but they don't dictate their reports to suit the lifestyle of your or me. I don't understand why people can't see its the profession, you aren't going to change it. you need to get a new profession.
As far as the grocery clerks and weekends, etc. etc. They don't all call in sick and not work. Years ago when some of these supermarket chains were union, they made good money and those people worked their hind ends off, weekends, nights, holidays the whole bit. I know because my hubby is now drawing retirement from one of the chains. Seems to me we have a whole generation of younger folks that don't want to work but like the other poster said, they just want to p*ss and moan!
Rotten docs
Dear Doctor:
While I have a great deal of respect for what you do, you aggravate me.
Please, when you are addressing a letter be courteous enough to include the CITY and the STATE, and if you spell something don't spell ROAD for me, because, trust me, I learned how to spell road in the second grade!
Don't make me search for 15 minutes to find something your lazy ### could have read off the chart, because I only made 14 cents to type that letter, and my time and skill is worth more than 60 cents an hour.
And while I am venting, how about you say pheochromatoma, instead of feo, if that is what you mean. Don't be so lazy my job is 100 times harder.
If thats all they can get from the docs, get a different account!! There are more out there
I'm tired of these companies expecting IC work for 8 cpl, have a set schedule and thats even when I'm offering to do ops mainly!! Thats disgusting. I can just as easy do the basic 4, have a set schedule and not have to pay my own social security and taxes! Dont take it!
