Is Dictaphone better for VR? Escription can be frustrating with that at times.

My account is mostly VR and I have to work an awful lot to make a little.

The Low Down on ASR/VR with Dictaphone and/or Escription?
Companies I've interviewed with lately all are transitioning to ASR/VR. They all say you can still make good money. I need to hear this from the MTs who are actually doing this. Are you making the same or more or are you making less. ONe interviewer said they had an MT transition to ASR on Dictaphone and she made 27,000 lines for the pay period, although that sounds wonderful but at 4.25 cpl that is not what I would have made at 9 cpl doing 15,000 lines per pay period. I need to no some facts before I jump into this.

I've used both eScription and Dictaphone...sm
and I agree computers will never replace MTs, but I do think the eScription speech recognition is awesome. I don't have to correct much the way I did with the Dictaphone system. My favorite blooper was speech putting dog walker's hump when dowager's hump was dictated though! Great mental image.
TT Mgmt says more is going to VR by Dictaphone and Escription
Trying every way to cut our pay. Less and less regular transcription. Of course, as mgmt says, this is the wave of the future. But how do we explain that 1/2 cut in pay to our mortgage companies and be able to put gas in our car to go anyway. Horrible thing happening in this MT field for the MT's.

Escription has been out of work. Dictaphone has lots of work.
Nuance is the parent company of Dictaphone. Dictaphone makes ExText.

Does Dictaphone obtain the accounts for the companies who use Dictaphone EXText?
I was just wondering if this is the same as it used to be. Dictaphone installs the equipment in facilities and then gets a MTSO to take the account. Therefore, the MT company never solicits for accounts, but Dictaphone notifes them when they have installed equipment in a hospital.
A lot of times, if they need extra help, they will over 1-1/2 times our regular rate. sm
This is the equivalent of OT but you get it even if you have not done 40 hours already. I have also received AmerExp gift cards a few times for incentives offered. I think it depends on the account.
I do know for sure that they are working on an incentive program but I have no details and not even sure if they are still looking at it.
I do know for sure that I make more $$ with Keystrokes than I have ever made anywhere else.
Just be aware that not all Escription accounts pay the same. I worked for one company on Escription
struggling to maybe make $50 in 8-10 hours. I didnt know the difference as that was my first job on that platform and I just thought it was not a money maker. Then, I switched companies. I average $20-30 an hour and once I made $50 in an hour. I tried yet another company and I was lucky to make $9 an hour. The bottom line is that not all companies are alike, even though they use the Escription platform. What I have found is that goes according to how they set it up i.e. paying for footers, headers, spaces etc. Just dont be shocked if you dont make what you think you will. The companies know how to set it to where it benefits them and not you. As is the norm, not all companies are created equal out there regardless if they all use the same platform. That is what I am getting out.. Good luck.

If you get stuck or have a question regarding any issue, dont hold your breath on them answering or helping. To me, they are very shady people.

either, but doesn't it make sense to give all applicants a difficult transcription test? What better way for a real cream of the crop MT prove that she is skilled? If the test is easy, the results will be the same, whether the MT is a newbie or highly experienced. True?

i won't work for line rate ever again... and i work almost 4 jobs now to get six figures. pathetic pay these days. made more working hospital back in the day
It is frustrating for me to see ads when I do not have enough work. However, they are great sm
people to work with, and I have been happy for the most part. They use Wordscript, which is a Word-based platform and very easy to use. Pay periods end the 15th and the last of the month, paid by direct deposit. There is no set pay day, but generally I am paid within a week to 10 days of the end of the pay period.
Good luck with whatever you decide. 
I know, it's so frustrating. I would at least like a yes or no, just no response is maddening.

Ugg this is so frustrating! I am going to try to get more lines the first week
of the payperiod and maybe that will help. I have a child but he is away for the summer so I am able to sit and wait 24/7. I just have to juggle the bills this time around, either pay for the furniture or the rent, but not both. Will be lying low this week food-wise too, good thing I am alone and can cut back on going anywhere or buying anything. Perhaps the recession will end and the new accounts will help. Going elsewhere might end up being the same thing, so I am going to overlap TT with something else. Just thinking aloud here... thanks for your feedback. It is hard to talk to coworkers when you are home and don't know anyone in the area who does the same kind of work.

The company I work for does it, to keep all accounts in TAT, can be frustrating but most of the time
am just happy to have work. I am not sure, but I think I work for the same company as the previous poster, and I'm going to stick it out because it does seem to be getting better lately as I think the accounts are better covered now. If I were you, I would ask what the deal is, who knows, they might give you a straight answer or change your accounts if they find out you are unhappy, you don't know until you give it a try.

and there were several long reports to type, yet I never received the courtesy of a response. They were great guns at first, sending me info about the company, telling me how impressive my resume is, etc., and after the written test, I heard back immediately, but then, after investing several hours into their written test .. *poof* .. nada. I don't know that I aced it, but after 25+ years of being an MT, I didn't think I did so awful that it would not even merit a reply. Such is life ...
On the flip side, I do realize that companies receive 100s of applications when they run an ad, and so I try to be patient and realize that I can just be lost in the shuffle somtimes. I perhaps am not aggressive enough, because I do not email or call if they drop the ball. There are lots of other companies out there.

I have to agree that the people are very nice. That's about as far as goes, however. The platform is clunky (We're working on a new one has been the constant refrain for years, with no real sign of it's birth anytime soon).
To answer the original question, I'm able to average about 250 lph, even with the craptacular platform (mostly due to a few docs with regular patter lending themselves to a lot of canned text); that said, I would likely be getting 350 lph or more with similar effort elsewhere.
Back on the negative side, however, the communication there sucks. Maybe 1 in 10 e-mails to management is acknowledged, let alone answered.

Big time..They usually have the Indians work at night and weekends. It can be frustrating to log in
and have their not be a lot of work on the account your on. The only Escription account that has extra work is the one in which the hospital had them agreed NOT to send their transcription to India. Otherwise, we have to share our work with our partners as they call them.

...is an MTSO or has an MTSO division. Dictaphone provides equipment and service to MTs/MTSOs. Sales, tech staff and, perhaps, former MTs work for Dictaphone. Whoever told you Dictaphone is probably mistaken.

I just started using the Dictaphone platform last night and can't believe how slow it is. I too am doing QC and it is going to be hard to make any money. I was wondering if it was just my computer but I guess not if you are having problems, too.

You are 100 percent correct. There is nothing so frustrating as trying to get seemingly intelligent people to understand such simple things. They automatically thought it was TT trying to trying to grab that extra few cents for each report. I've personally come to the conclusion that the negative people who post on this board are disgruntled ones who cannot and will not perform to standards, possibly have been released and then the ones who are trying to be loyal to MQ, KS or others (possibly even the head honchos of those companies)and come on here to disillusion others. A company speaks for itself in the way they treat their employees and the quality of the product they provide. If you are a current TT employee you are getting plenty of work. If you're not getting a full paycheck, then you are not performing to standards. Simple as that. Don't take it out on the company just because their platform is not what you're used to. And go elsewhere to bellyache. Some of you are not content if you don't create something to complain about.

EXText is the word processing program which works with MS Word and is marketed by Dictaphone company. Transnet is the voice file player that works along with EXText to play the voice files. Hope that helps. :)

If you are on the Dictaphone side, you are definitely NOT -sm
on one of their hardest accounts. Their hardest accounts are done on Merit and by Medware India (who funny enough, can't understand the ESLs there either).
You obviously don't mind that over half of their staff is off shore and they are constantly moving towards having 100% of their work done either by VR or by off shore MTs.
I once thought I would retire from MedWare as well, but I decided to get out when I saw the writing on the wall with regard to their sending work off shore.
I currently work for them on the dictaphone...
side and REALLY enjoy it. The benefits are good and the platform has been easy to work with. They also have holiday pay, vacation pay after 1 year, sick leave, and other benefits for fulltime workers. I am not sure what the starting pay range is, but they are an AWESOME company to work for. HTH!
Dictaphone has been busy....
and I have yet to run out of work. The only time it was slow was on the 4th of July (which is not unusual considering it was a holiday), but I have not had any problems with running out of work OR management. I've been with Medware now for almost 6 months and REALLY like it!
