In an ideal world...

that might work, but in this industry, you know what the client will do? They will either implement an EMR system that replaces or reduces transcription or they will send their dictation to be transcribed overseas. The damage has already been done. The clients already know they can cut MT costs, and they now expect it.

Nor did I say Ideal
However, with posting as the administrator, even you are aware that people look to what you post as (for lack of a better term) a standard. You even say expect and doing a disservice. You said feel free to respond. I did. I simply pointed out that what editors may/should/wish to have in place and the reality of what is being offered - unfortunately - are different. I stated my experience and did not denigrate your post.
My ideal company would
not throw all their worst work on me because "nobody else can do it" or because VR, newbies or offshoring took all the easy stuff. These companies need to pay more if they expect us to fight our way through their worst dictators. Paychecks wouldn't be late. They wouldn't expect me to sit there for FREE on call waiting for work. Oh, yeah, check back every 20 minutes or so to see if anything's hit the server yet. I don't think so. I don't work for free or even for minimum wage. If I'm making less than $15 an hour with a company, I quit. I can clean houses, waitress or go back to my old career field for that amount.
Rate must be $.085 for employee or $.09 for IC at a minimum with raises following probationary period. I don't really care about benefits, but I like a 401k. Direct deposit is nice because I've had checks lost in the mail before. Pay every other week. I like to use my own equipment. Internet based platform that's user friendly. No download, upload, check here, look there, fax that, keep lists. No lying recruiters. No researching patient or physician information in four different places, then getting chewed out by QA when I couldn't find it because the doctor didn't even spell it. I don't like to be overwhelmed by so many emails and documents that you spend all your time reading without being paid. If QA is condescending or rude, they'll get the same in return. I won't be shouted at in all caps about somebody else's stupid mistakes. Flexible schedule. No long distance, C-phone or dial-up. Training doesn't matter to me unless I haven't used their platform before. However, I don't like to be just dumped on an account without so much as account specs provided. That's bunk, too. How am I supposed to figure out the naming convention and report type if they don't tell me? Also, everyone wants fulltime employees with evening and weekend work. That does not work for me, but I do have some flexibility to cover vacations and TAT as needed.
Yeah, I'm not one of those meek females who puts up with a bunch of bunk. I'm not so grateful to have a job that I'll allow myself to be walked on or ripped off financially. Probably why I haven't been able to find a job I'm happy with. I'm asking for too much, evidently. So I think I'll take some time off and start my own business. I don't know if it'll be MT or not, but I'm tired of being an indentured servant for lousy pay.
SE status is my ideal
Statutory employee status is my favorite. You still have to hold out some taxes yourself but not all, and you don't have to pay the self-employment tax that comes with being an IC. You also can deduct expenses like an IC but can't be held to a set schedule like an employee.
No medical/time-off benefits with being SE or IC, of course.
Yes, this is the ideal situation...
I work as an IC (not with MDI) and we self-QA. We are paid great because we cut out QA. MTs who cannot handle it are told to find work elsewhere. If you want to make really good money, you need to be able to self-QA and create accurate reports on your own.
No where in the post did I say that the figures were IDEAL.

on rereading I did say Ideal, didn't I??

(??) The offers in MT have been "less-than-ideal"
Last decent offer I got for MT was in around 1979-80.
Been all downhill from there.
The slow times are ideal for trying out new jobs.
You can keep your current job and still have time to work toward learning a new job and becoming proficient before the work load picks up again.
Give it a few weeks and then make up your mind which company would be better.
Congrats! Sounds Ideal. Hope I find something just like what you did. NM.
What world is that? Wally World?
nm
MT World
Nice platform, very simple does not have a lot of bells and whisles, but it is a nice typing platform and it interfaces with MS Word. On some you cannot get your line count, that was the only issue I had with it when I worked on it.
What in the world did they want to know?
nm
USA is not same as MT-World
MT-World is now ATSI - American Transcription Solutions. Good company, but a lot of turnover in the office. Lots of work right now.
why in the world
I agree! I think the same thing has happened to me at MQ. I'm still waiting to hear back from them after training. :(
MT WORLD
Any info on MT-World in Clearwater? Have a pending offer in radiology.
MT-World
I've been working for them for about a month now so I don't know how much help I can be, but everyone there has been very helpful. Any time I have a question, there is always someone I can ask. Get paid every 2 weeks and so far have been on time.
How in the world would you know??
I thought people could post anonymously. BTW first time I have posted anything about TT in a long time. Im just watching these days. Pretty interesting I must say.
What in the world is going on at OSI?
Seems to be big changes going on.
Why in the world sm
did they buy an MT school? I have my thoughts about that. Mostly that they are trying to get rid of the older (higher paid) transcriptionists.
Whether it is a true town hall meeting, and we get to speak, is yet to be seen. In the past they told us to mute ourselves, and they just said what they said.
I think it's becoming a dog-eat-dog world out there
When I first started in this business and on this board, there was never a bad post. Everyone helped everyone with questions, etc.
Lately, with the economy and the world the way it is, plus the fact that MTs don't get recognition for their GOOD work and, of course, let's not forget the crappy pay, there are a lot of unhappy people out there.
I read an article in the newspaper today that stated in a capitalist nation, greed is good if it serves a purpose; i.e., jobs and prosperity; but if greed gets out of control; i.e., bonuses for the upper echelon and nothing for the true workers, then the role of capitalism is in the toilet. This is what is happening in our nation today and everyone is either worried about their job or trying to stay afloat with all the negativity in the job market and so, the nastiness prevails and turns into the dog-eat-dog world we all fought against a few years ago.
Things will turn around again, but it will take years of trial and error now. Whether it will be good or bad will depend on the attitude of the people and government.
I don't mean to turn this into a political post but I, myself, have been biting my tongue towards some posters and just trying to live my life the best I can. With DH only working 80 days this year and not able to collect unemployment, I am the total breadwinner, so it makes me a little sarcastic and/or mean, but not enough to post nasty messages....YET.
You have to let the negativity go in one ear and out the other and move on.
How in the WORLD do they keep.MTs? sm
Oh, i know how...they get paid well by their clients and they pay their MTs 6 cpl........
What in the world?
Ok, I am cracking up right now. You seriously have some problems. No, I am not the woman who lost her marriage. I am still married and wouldn't lose my marriage over a job. This is hilarious and thanks for the laugh. Like I said, go get some comfort food and calm the heck down. You are totally losing your mind. Here is you ------> Here is me ----->
Why in the world would anyone
NOT give the best they can? That is owed to any employer by any worker. Second-best doesn't cut it in this job.
What in the world?
MTs have become a total joke. What happened to this profession? I am so embarrassed to be part of this industry. Some of you are visualizing managers as drinking brandy and smoking cigars? Are you imagining them yelling 'let them eat cake too?' I wish I could tell you how I visualize most work at home MTs, but it might be a little too harsh for such a nice place as this.
What in the world????
Why on earth would an MTSO who KNOWS they are treating their MTs well and with respect, have any desire to come and visist this or any other board??? Only one way that my poor humble mind can see and that is because they KNOW they are not treating them well much less with respect and so they MIGHT feel the need to assess how angry their MTs are so they can plan damage control. I'm sure there are good SMALL MTSOs out there who do treat their employees well but I think they are fewer by the day.
One would think this board is for MTs to share their various experiences and those who are happy should thank God that they have it so good and those who are hurting, well it says a lot about the people who would put them down and pour salt in their wounds. There but for the grade of God goes you.
Best Company in the MT World
Stat-Med in Missouri - Pay is excellent, always, always on time. Owner is the best person to work for and I absolutely love it.
Greenlight - Pay is absolutely great. Owner is SUPER and again love working for them.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BEING A MT....
MT-World, any info
Any info on MT-World, good or bad??? Thanks!
Post about mt world
There was a post last evening about MT World being a scam, a couple people asked for an explanation and now the post is gone - why was it deleted? If this place is not legitimate we should know because American Transcription Solutions is advertising and they are part of MT World.
I do anything and everything. Why in the world are they hiring???
x
I did not like MT World either and I hated being on IM all day. nm
xx
Its really World War III here, War of the outsourced
Go get those scammers.
ATSI, formerly MT-World?
Lots of work right now. Pretty good accounts, not a lot of ESLs. Direct deposit every 2 weeks. Good work platform. Some benefits.
Why in the world do companies -sm
Keep on hiring MTs when there isn't enough work for the ones they already have? I am disappointed to learn that a company I tested for, and accepted a position with, apparently does not have enough work to go around. I used to love medical transcription. Now I'm just downright discouraged and depressed.
What a world this would be if no one had to work on
weekends. Every store, every restaurant, every gas station, would be closed. What would you do on your days off? Of course, all patients would just lay in their beds in the hospital, have family bring food in, etc., because no nurse, no dietary department, no ancillary services would be open. And if you had an emergency, of course it would wait until Monday to be resolved.
Too many of those who do not want to work weekends do not remember the days that all banks were open M-F, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. except Friday when they were open until 6 p.m. No one worked at home. If you had to take care of any personal business, you had to take vacation time from your job to do that, including go to a bank. No servicemen made calls on weekends, either, so if you needed a phone installed (before the days of the plug-in lines), you had to take an entire day off to wait from the service person to show up, and prayed that they did so you did not lose another day's vacation while waiting.
We were happy to work weekends then because we did not burn up all our leave time for taking care of everyday business.
I'll work weekends any time you want me to.
Welcome to the real world. Try getting your
see how it works. I have a surgery center account that I bill once a month, on the last day of the month. And they have 30 days to pay. So work I do on January 1st, I might not get paid for till the end of February.
What in the world does "whitebread" mean?
?
Perfect MT world
In the perfect MT world, what you say would be so true. But you know how doctors are. In the perfect MT world, every doctor would dictate that day's patients, that afternoon. The perfect MT world would not be feast or famine. But come on, we know all too well about the doctor's who only dictate once every couple of days, doing 2-4 days worth of patients in one day. It would hurt to pay an employee to sit jobless for a couple of days only to have to pay overtime when they were then swamped and playing catch-up. For the IC, she still gets no pay for that day but when she does end up doing the work, she gets paid for the work she does.
In the perfect MT world, there would be no fluctuation of jobs. Through no fault of the MTSO, doctors leave facilities, new doctors come to facilities. Sometimes, through no fault of the MTSO, whole facilities leave. Then the MTSO finds herself with several ICs and no work for them. On the other hand, she may get an unexpected bonanza and have a facility hire on with many thousands of lines a month and she finds herself scrambling for qualified MTs.
I am sure every MTSO would LOOOVE to say I am always going to have X lines available to X MTs every day. Unfortunately, she has no control over that aspect of the business.
You will not believe this but I am not an MTSO (but I do play one on TV, lol j/k). I have, however, been spending way too much time lately thinking about this industry and how the changes that are happening now are affecting my paycheck. I am also related to a couple of people in management, so I am aware of both sides of the picture.
World Wide
I have heard of World Wide in NJ, but not in NY. If it is the same company, they now also call themselves Metro. If this is the same company, I don't how much work they have right now, but I do know they are nice to work for, nice people, office manager is very nice.
I honestly had the best job in the world one day and no job the next sm
and I found out I had no job via a non-personalized group form email saying Medware is reorganizing, if you have received this email we have eliminated your position, effective 2 days from now, please feel free to call us if you have any questions
like I said, sad
accounts...welcome to the new MT world!
Why don't the MSTOs band together, set their rates high (kinda like price fixing) and then the companies will have no choice but to pay those higher rates. The Indian companies would never be able to handle the mass exodus from US and they would crash and burn big time. Thus, the work will come back to US at a good rate. You need to force the entire situation to reboot. Kinda like Shock Therapy to the industry. There is no MT union to support us, we need to do it ourselves. How many MSTOs are ready to say I am mad as hell, and I am not going to take this anymore!
Whose got the scoop on MT World?
Good, bad, and the ugly is welcome. Thanks!
Is MT-World the same as ATSI?
Would like more info on ATSITIA
Zylomed?MT World
This is for those of you who might take their test. I took the test, got a call and an offer right off the bat. I trained for one day - Next thing I know the footpedal that they sent to me doesn't work - I have spent more hours than I care to say in front of my computer while some IT person takes over my computer and tries to make the footpedal work. Well, he had to go home. About 20 minutes after he signed off, I got a call from Kimberly McAcyke saying that she was sorry, but they would have to let me go - let me go - I never even did any work for them. I believe that the footpedal was faulty in that it worked one day and then did not the next with no changes made to my computer. In other words it wasn't worth their time or was beyond their expertise to get everything up and running. I took it to heart when I read the other posts about Zylomed - now I have nothing more to say about them, other than beware and don't waste your time like I did.
Isn't is a sad commentary on the MLS world when
negative reviews about a company are accepted, yet positive reviews are suspect? You should know that some companies use the term MLS and some use the term MT...I personally prefer MLS, describes our profession a little better don't you think? I don't remember seeing the term miracle....just a great place to work. All the hiring? Well duh, all the new accounts.....
Changing world
It appears that management and supervisor positions are going down the drain. Reason being, a lot of them are working for two companies at one time, thus drawing two paychecks. The company officials who know nothing about transcription management have no idea that it doesn't take a full day to manage transcriptionists. Same being with QA and Editor positions, they are going to line rate now for the same reason. Seems like a few unworthy people have just ruined it for everyone. The trend now is going toward no titles of authority and just everyone having responsibilties that will cover a full day including typing in that job description. I wouldn't say thats really a bad change, I would say the companies are wising up, it is a business after all.
In defence of some though, there are though companies that assign 50 hospital accounts to one supervisor which is just terrible because they are on 24-7. Bottom line, it is no longer the prestigious job it used to be.
Changing World
******
And, what world do you live in?
that pays for downtime.
I just have 1 question, what in the world does being
a single mother have to do with anything? Does that mean a single mother should have more money, have it easier, do better or just what than any other person who works in this profession? Should they be given leeway on time supposedly spent transcribing, should they be expected to do less because they have children at home? I really do not see any difference in a working woman, be she single, married, divorced or widowed. A woman is a woman irregardless and I think sometimes a woman throws out being a single mother because it qualifies them for ?? pity, maybe?
Welcome to the world of transcription.
That's how it is when you work for someone else. Try to get your own accounts and then you will have the same physicians over and over again. Good luck with the ESL's; they're tough...
what in the world are you talking about?
huhh?
