grow some guts. Unfortunately, this is profession has become a cut throat business, and if harshness is what it takes to get paid, then so be it. We are all just trying to survive here on the piddling pennies with which we are compensated. This MT is an extremely dedicated, hard-working MT whose business has been destroyed by ***********not paying for services rendered. It's unconscionable. It is not meant to be a threat, but rather a forewarning of what it yet to come.

30 grand....you will take a pay cut to
It is grand to work from home,
get certain things in writing, such as work times, how down time will be handled (server down), and if you will be required to go into the office to work for shortage coverage, meetings, etc. Been here, done this. Get it in writing or you will probably regret it.
Not sure if this is what you want, but here is some info. They are in Grand Rapids, MI. The hospital
Van Belkum Transcription ServicesGrand Rapids, Michigan firm has employment application for MT's, contact information and details on the technology used.

Give it time, they'll get to you. The grand plan is
my shoulder, it's a block(head). The games they play, the excuses/reasons are old, worn out, and it's aggravating to sit there staring at that NJA cyclops when others are getting the work. Dog-eat-dog is not conducive to a good work environment. We didn't create the situation but we bear the brunt.
I'm not damage control! I'm really nobody in the grand scheme of things. Just a quiet MT!
That is what is just soooooooooooooo weird still with MQ. I don't know - I've been there for a long time, never talk to anybody, never hear from anybody, my account always has work, and its a great account. I have a back up, which I rarely get a report from. When I do, I admit, its challenging in that I have to look up a doctor here and there, but I just have never had a problem once. I got transferred to Amherst, too, and everything is fine. No changes. I had some I-mail problems, along with everyone else, called the 1-800 # and got people on the phone immediately, who were super nice. Had a mistake with my check, my fault entered hours in wrong section, and got a person on the phone immediately, who fixed the problem and had a new check out to me the next day. Its really a mystery to me why some have problems. When I do ask my bosses about it, they say my head would spin if I heard the problems some MTs are - how picky they are - how rude - cherry pickers or will only type on the 3rd Tuesday of the second week after a full moon - never answer THEIR phones, never answer emails, etc. Whole reverse of what I hear on this board 24/7. And I have to admit, I believe the office people who tell me their side, cause I know I've never experienced one singly problem that some MTs on this board whine about constantly. And I've survived the new QA plan, no big deal at all, and survived the dreaded office transfer - nothing to it at all! So, I can't help but think that we somehow get the treatment we earn at MQ, or at any company for that matter. And, no, please don't patronize me or kid yourselves. I'm just an MT with some time to kill on the boards tonight!
I've got news for you: 2 grand is a lot of money period. Whether you are a "single mom" or

ripped off
I agree with the above poster that it seems you are being ripped off! I think you are perfectly within your rights to request some sort of documentation that the headers and footers are indeed 30%. AND the fact that you are having to fill in demographic pages on the platform, then you essentially ARE typing the headers and footers, as you say, so you should definitely bring this to their attention.
whatever. I know we got ripped
I added what we were making - just from the people that i know that worked for Decatur TSI. For this particular company it IS pretty accurate and we never received our pay. Though I'm sure Jayne, Howard, and even Doug are paying their bills just fine. Merry flipping xmas losers at TSI
I already know how to be ripped off!
Hey, tax day was just last week!
If you need a manual to learn how to be ripped off and cheated, well, perhaps VR IS for you. You are welcome to it!
Saved me from being ripped off!!
http://www.theabacus.biz
Me too, sick of getting ripped off by SS
on a daily basis. My lines at Softscript for the last 3 weeks since the server issue have dropped drastically. I guess they think we cannot do math and only type.
About 2 years ago, I got ripped
Hope you win the case. She needs to be history. So sweet and I gotta have you working for me, babe and honey in the mouth. I never got paid either. I just fear some new transcriptionists will be caught up by her and they will lose hope about anyone being honest in this profession. Please, stay away from E-Tranz. RUN!
We're all getting ripped off.
Please, the standard used to be around 7 cents per gross line ten years ago, which would equal about 11 cents 65 character! Back then I made almost double what I'm making today as an MT and that is why I have one foot out the door. This profession has hit rock bottom.
WOW - So I've been getting ripped off
my whole career. Unbelievable.
Snuffed out? More like had mask ripped off

If she had ripped folks off back then, why no posts before now?
Not take sides, but if what what you claim were true, think about it -- Don't you think there would have been posts about it by someone out there back then?? I searched the archives on this Allstate company and there have been lots of positives posted on here about them and the owner, Deb. Just remember, there are always at least two sides to every story, and it just seems to me if if Allstate or Deb had ripped off a bunch of people a few years back like you claim, surely someone would have come forward before now. Not taking sides, but it almost appears as if some disgruntled ex-employee has made it her mission to recruit as many of her friends as she can to post anything and everything they can think of to make this company (and it's owner) look bad. As with any posts/comments, I'd take these with a grain of salt....
that was a little harsh
Lots of career moms go to work everyday and place their children in reputable childcare. There are also moms out there who are home all the time with their kids and they'd get better care elsewhere. Perhaps the OP has a supportive family nearby that would be willing to help out.
I think your comments were very judgmental and not helpful at all.
Harsh?
I would never sit around and so ho-hum and it's the fault of the company. What should I have said?
Please. No one needs to sit around in this industry if there are plenty of jobs posted. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, why not find a better job? We're not worth it?
I'm not one to sugar coat. We can't be lazy. We have to look for a better job if there's no work.
That was a little harsh!
I never post on here when someone is being rude to a fellow MT, but I have to put in my 2 cents here. You are right, however, when you say that Christmas bonuses are a thing of the past. I've been in this business for many years, and have seen the decline in pay and respect. I would recommend picking up something part-time to offset the slow times rather than up and quitting. Most of us are in the same boat, and it is being felt everywhere, not just in the MT business. We should be here to encourage one another, not discourage. I, for one, am luckier than some of my friends and family who have been forced out of a job due to downsizing or companies being shut down completely. I wish everyone the best for this holiday season, and to focus on everything there is to be thankful for in this recession!!
Wow, that was harsh
Geesh
Harsh
I am a Synernet employee and found the post to be harsh. I don't see an inner circle, I saw friends and co-workers who supported another in a time of need. I also do not feel like a robot and of step child. I have never been denied time off. I may have had to make up time if it was a busy time of year, but never been denied. Instead of complaining, let's be grateful that (a) you have a job and (b) you are not the person in charge of 90+ transcriptionist, their time off schedules, the system and the one answering emails and phone calls and dealing with MTs issues and customer issues. Discussing MT issues is one thing but attacking a person who lost a loved one is going to far.
Oh, really harsh you say
Direct quote from that post: into an even lower-paid position as a VR editor. In the latter case, the MT's knowledge is devalued even further. I have no problem editing or knowing how people unfamiliar with VR thinks someone right off th street could do. What would be hard about reading along on a report?? I stand behind all I said.
Sounds like you're gettin' ripped BIG TIME!

RIPPED OFF AGAIN: line count per dictated minute
Was hired at 16 cpl per 65 character line for a rad acct in Cali. My check were meniscule and so I bought her line counting software and called her on my pay. She said she was paying me 16 cents per minute of dictation which was a complete switchover. You see these were reports with a lot of pasting and then adding different values. The only dictated minutes were the clinical history, pre and postop diagnosis and some values in the pasted normals.
She says the average dictated minute is transcribed in 1.5-2 minutes, HUH, where does she come from, it is more like 1 min of dictation is transcribed in 3-6 minutes, right???
sounds harsh, but...
If your work was not up to par in a job setting outside of your home would you be allowed to continue in that position? I really doubt it, at least I have not seen it at any place I ever worked at before I became an MT who worked from home. I am sorry for your situation, but you cannot realistically expect an employer to carry you because of personal issues. They are paying you to work. If your work is not cutting it then they have every right to let you go. Best of luck to you. Hope things turn around soon.
Seems a bit harsh. Obviously, since others have tested with no sm
problem, must be your issue. As I recall, the instructions say to call or email if you have any problems. Perhaps it is you who should READ.
Wow..too harsh for me.. I mean I think I know what the heck I'm doing but maybe I really don't
what the heck I am doing, according to her. This ad is a crackup. Any ideas on who is it?
Wow, that was unnecessarily harsh.
She was just asking a simple question. If all you are going to do is bash the person for asking, don't respond.
Yes, it would be a HIPPA violation if her husband is able to see the patient's information, i.e. name, medical record #, etc.
Sorry you got bashed for asking.
That's not harsh. Some people just
The husband could be a partner. I had my husband do my deliveries when I wasn't allowed to drive after surgery and no one questioned this as a violation. They were glad he did it. And my husband could care less whose names are on those papers; really in all honesty.
Furthermore, who really knows who is sending the work at any given time. There was another poster here that said her nephew delivered tapes to a subcontractor and left in the screen door. I mean come on? Was that a violation? NOT!
not harsh at all; it's time.

It is the only place I have been for 5 years that I feel I am not being ripped off and making money
I work hard but I did for the other companies too and bit by bit more things were stripped away and I would end up making half again. Keystrokes has given me confidence again, and I am making money. That is the name of the game, that is me though. I love it here.
I agree you got some harsh replies.
Not sure why some people feel they need to give a reply when all they wish to express is their own irritability. I'm guessing the tone of their replies has nothing to do with the question. At least, I saw nothing unusual or annoying about your post. But I can't answer your question either.
Okay, don't be harsh, need info on Amphion, sm
saw the posts from below, not happy, but not enough for me to say hey or nay. Where I am coming from I know it can't be worse but I really want a good fit. Thanks for all who can inform me.
Wendy....Post a bit harsh
Maggie, your post was a bit harsh. Yes there are those who whine and complain, but a lot comes with experience to include whining and complaining. As well, you really do not know what financial situation an MT may be experiencing. While, I agree with most of what you state, I find that you lack compassion for those who may not have the experience and knowledge that you do. I cannot say enough about the mentors/teachers I have had along the way. I had only one bad experience over the past 16 years working at home as an MT.. I have found work that may not be a good fit for the company or for me, software that is not productive for MTs (which can be cumbersome, time consuming, and frustrating), companies selling to another company, companies going out of business, losing business, etc., etc. I have considered all an experience that has contributed to the work I do. As well, without a doubt, you can have the greatest work ethic, but if your work for someone who does not share the same work ethic, or value the fact that you are generating money for them as well as yourself, what is it truly worth? Be kind, be gentle to those that whine and complain and perhaps your shared experience will provide growth for another MT.
Your comments are awful harsh considering
you missed the ENTIRE point of her post.
I can only hope you edit reports with better comprehensive skills than you used in reading that post.
You wont make any money with them. Expect to get ripped out. The hospital they do work for should...
be ashamed to sent their work to Indian companies like treat their employees like crap. You can bet the hospital pays full price, but once the MTs get their part, it is minimal. Dont go there!!
She wasnt being harsh, just giving another point of
nm
yeah, after rereading my posts they are kind of harsh.
and I am sorry for being harsh. I still have my opinion and will stand behind Transcend. But my apology is to JMO. He/she was the only civil one, debating more than fighting. I cannot bring myself to apologize to the other attackers, however, who were just as unruly as myself while hiding their names from the public.
I do agree with the above poster who said we should just let it go. We all seem to feel strongly in our opinions but we've hashed it out as much as it should/could be.
Sorry again.
It may be harsh, but it is true. Too many people come into transcription with false sm
expectations. They expect to get paid to stay home, watch their kids, work when they want, make a fortune after 6 months of correspondence courses.
It takes more than that to be a good MT and a heck of a lot more than that to be a great MT.
With this economy, it would pay to fine-tune skills, work on typing speed, learn new specialties. The best will survive and I intend to stay one of the best.
Not everyone is good at everything.
wow - now THAT is scary.... sm
Something to consider when giving out our private information...
I hope you hear from her soon.
This is scary:(
Anyone way out of line could do the same with any company for that matter. If someone asks a question and wants a truthful answer some flake out there. However, I think if posting as a KS recruiter they should actually be a recruiter. No need to be playing head games with fellow transcriptionists.
scary
I've been posting for months as zzz on the MQ board and I'm not concerned or upset that another zzz is posting. I find it kind of strange, though, that I'm aligned on most of your philosophies. You're a little more aggressive, but I do agree with you on many things including this subject.
The whole cesspool concept is outrageous and I really have no respect for a company who thinks this is good for anyone. I know the idea was to prevent anyone from running out of work (no downtime pay for MQ to worry about too), but...
Anyhow, I do what I have to do for me. They did what they had to do when they took over $300 away from me a month with no warning (daily bonus), so I shall follow my leader.
Now THAT'S s-s-s-sc-sc-scary!
nm
I know, it's so scary when they
screw us over with pay cuts year after year. You're giving me an ulcer worrying with you, LOL. I hope everything works out for you and you're able to make enough money. If not, don't be afraid to move on to a different company. Gotta do what you gotta do to support your family. Crossing my fingers for you!
The scary thing is that quite a few of the
scary people on this board ARE MTSOs. I've seen more than one nutjob running around screaming and ranting to people. "Well, I'd never hire you to work for me!" GOOD!! I don't want to work for some psycho chick with a bad attitude anyways!!! The real shrews expect endentured servitude, don't pay squat, and have poor business management skills. If you're an MTSO and you're taking this post personally, well, I'm probably referring to YOU.
Scary, huh!! I agree:)
nm
You means this are scary?
nm
Scary thought.....
I was actually hired by them and due to begin training when my current company begged me to stay. I'm only making a little less but the benefits are SO much better!! 10 vacation days the 1st year, 6 paid holidays and sick time earned each pay period. And they were willing to agree to my schedule!! I am so happy now after hearing this!!
So true, it's scary! - nm
.
IC Status-a bit scary
I am going to be switching to IC status soon and was wondering if anyone who is already working as an IC can tell me what kind of line rate I will need to compensate for all the taxes I will have to pay, especially both sides of the social security tax. I am SE status now but that is probably going to change and employee status is not for me. I know taxes vary from state to state but what percentage of taxes do you average when taking them out of your gross paycheck each pay day. TIA for any information.
Yeah, I found that a little scary - sm
I do think though that a lot of places do that and just don't tell you - small MTSOs, of course. I don't believe it's the right thing to do though.
