the company cannot 'reqire' you to work certain hours or commit to a certain number of lines. If you had to do that, you would be an employee. If a company is asking you to commit to these things and be considered and IC, they are wrong! The company I work for (as an IC) asked me to tell them what days I would be available, etc., but there is no 'set' anything ivolved. That is why you are an independent contractor and not an employee.
