If you anger the acct manager in this business, you may end up broke.

They call us teams - yeah, right. The games played by those in management positions can essentially hold an MT as a financial hostage, making their life a living hell. I am watching it right now happen with a coworker who stood up for herself and now? She makes 50% less than she did a year ago and is powerless to change it.

My acct mgr sent an update this morning stating a large acct sm

I so agree with you. There's a lot of ANGER in many
to the anger that is raging among medical transcriptionists these days. We are all being RIPPED OFF by our employers, by our so-called 'industry leaders' (aka AHDI), by the hospitals that say 'we don't offshore... oh, no no', and then with a wink and a nod, close their MT departments and send their work to companies that SAY they don't offshore, but of course we ALL know the answer to that one (and so do the hospital CEOs..., they just think the patients will never find out.)
In order for anything to ever get any better, our anger will have to reach a boiling point, and when it does (and I think we're just about there), our anger needs to be consolidated and channeled into getting something done about closing all the financial loopholes, perks and rewards these people get for screwing us.
You know - posts like this do nothing but further anger (sm)
people in foreign countries against Americans.
The anger is totally misplaced, though. First,
great! Who cares. There is obviously a need, and this subC is filling the need. The anger from MTs should be directed at the parent company who is using the subC group to handle work. That is the only scenario to me that makes any sense at all regarding anger. And that would be just the MTs from the parent company. If they have no work, as some company MTs are claiming, then it would make me angry, too, if I had no work, but my company was using a subC company for overflow. But in the cases where I have seen it used, at MQ, for instance, the overflow companies were vital and performed work and duties that the MQ MTs would not do, i.e. meeting TAT, etc. But to be angry at the subC company or their pay rates makes no sense at all. Lots of wasted energy and hatred, which is sad.
All you TT people are so anger and bitter! sm
She said she just found out she was pregnant so I highly doubt she is going to pop out a kid tomorrow! Explain to me how you are paying for someone to have a baby - that doesn't make sense to me? I am sure most of you have been pregnant at one point in time and needed maternity leave then. I don't understand why you are all taking out your bitterness on your fellow colleague.
So much anger, why not just move on to another company..
your fabulous attitude and skills are probably needed elsewhere. Why stay with a company you so vociferously hold disdain for? Some people just like to wallow and complain and do nothing for themselves.
Have you considered anger management?
How was your acct at Amphion? I have a HORRIBLE acct...
I am new to Amphion and have this account that has a lot of account specifics, no automatic ADT (which means I have to search for the names, etc) which is not a problem for me, but there is one dictator who is ALWAYS awful, and I have been getting him back to back to back my first week with Amphion. Did you find that you basically only had 1 or 2 dictators while there or did you have more? Of course, I would not mind doing him occasionally but can't do this all day. I will never be able to make any money, especially at the line rate that I am being paid. I have 2 children of my own and 3 of my sister's children in my care. I cannot afford to do this everyday and don't know what to do. I work as an IC for another company making 9 cents a line, which is much more than Amphion, but really wanted employee status so was willing to make a little less, but I am afraid it is not going to work. I do not want to have to find yet another company and start all over with them to only find out that they suck too. Any suggestions?
Anger eats at a person and does not solve anything. You must be a joy to work with. sm
I also work for Keystrokes and based on a company-wide email that went out last night from the CEO, the OP will get some resolution. I personally love working there and that email just adds to my job satisfaction. I have made suggestions in the past that have sparked some changes, unlike the other big national I spent many years with. I like being heard, or at least listened to, and I feel that the owners and managers of Keystrokes really do have the best interest of the transcriptionists in mind.
Before I get blasted for this post, let me add that this is my personal experience and personal opinion. I know that not everyone has the same experience at every company and wish you all happiness in the company or companies that you work for.
Your anger should be directed at the American Companies who outsource not (sm)
at the offshore employees who are also trying to make money for their families.
sorry, I made a typo in haste and anger, it is 'agreed', not 'agrred'..nm

well, i really dont know what to do. should i keep working, and hoping my check will be on its way? this is really a very bad christmas present for my family. never go with Medigrafix.
Broke MT
I just had an interview with a local surgeon wanting me to work from his office 2 days per week part-time. That salary would equal almost an entire week of what I would get being paid 7 cents per line. It was interesting when I spoke with this doctor because he told me he stopped using services a long time ago because they charged him so much. He would rather pay the Transcriptionist the money rather than the service. Most services charge 14 to 16 cents per line and only pay the transcriptionist 7 cents per line. We all would be making good money if we could get 14 to 16 cents per line, so it looks like I am going back to the work force and working for the doctor directly. At least I will get paid a decent salary working part-time compared to making the same amount full-time with a service. Not worth the stress these days!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I made over $60K as a QA manager. An MT manager
I am told is less money but definitely NOT as low as $36,500. I would not do it for $36,500.
The majority that I hear and see (and many are not advertised) are around $45K. You are giving yourself away for that. You might be working for a company that I received an offer from at one time. Great people but could not afford to work for that kind of money. Way too low to be on call 24/7.
4.5 and not nearly enough. Going broke fast.

You will be broke if you do VR work for them..sm
Their pay system is strange. They don't pay per gross line they pay per net which I don't really understand. I do VR for them because I thought it would be much better than straight typing, wrong! I am making about $200 less a month. If you were to do just straight typing for them, then they would be a great place.
My philosophy: If it ain't broke... :)) sm
I'm very happy with the existing platform, thanks! It's MT-friendly and it's clear that MTs had a say in what was/wasn't important in getting the job done.
I'm also very happy with the current compensation by KS rather than lines and/or VBC, but I have a feeling the KS will disappear with the new platform, all the better to compare us to our overseas counterparts, which seemed to be the major push of today's meeting... and I'm not sure I understand that.
tired and broke
I have always really liked D and think she has had the best interests of MTs at heart. But this overhiring really has me stumped. I am only an old grandma, not an MBA, and I really cannot understand any of it. Does anybody know when the new accounts are going to start up? 30-60 days will take us into the time when people are getting ready for the holidays. I wish the new accounts would start and they would take the newcomers off of our regular accounts.
Tired and broke
I am giving the benefit of the doubt and thinking that many of our accounts might be overflow and therefore the powers that be at MDI do not really know how much we get to do daily, i.e., it is not a full contract account. So I can understand how frustrated they must be when (1) they do not know from day to day how much overflow there will be and (2) some unscrupulous MTs do double the lines they are supposed to, thus throwing things into disarray. I get all that and I sympathize. What I do not understand is why so many new folks were hired when there is no work for us moldy oldies. I am not asking to know corporate secrets; they are none of my business. I am only hired to type lines. But I would like to know if this is going to be a situation that will go on for months (which I cannot endure) or for a couple of weeks more. (My family is used to hot dogs, so we can survive.) I just wish there could be some words of encouragement or update during this difficult time. That is not a make wrong of the company, not at all. MDI is a magnificent company and I want to see it continue to grow and thrive and see us grow and thrive with it. I just feel kind of all alone (with no work) out here. Geez, I am starting to sound as childish as my nephew. (He is seven.)
tired and broke
I so agree with you. Your sentence that GOOD COMMUNICATION DOESN'T COST A PENNY, BUT THE VALUE IS EXTRAORDINARY should be stitched in a sampler and give to every MTSO in the world. You have hit it right on the head.
Natives are broke, busted and
downright disgusted! It is not just the wages that have been ground down, but morale, too. A job is a lot like a marriage. You picked the one thinking you were in love and willing to give everything you have in you, but after a few years of being kicked around, even a toothless dog will eventually bite! All anybody seems to know about TX anymore is that they don't want to do it! It amazes me still the worst critics in the office were the ones who did the least amount of work, talked in the halls, on the phone, etc.
Yes and you'll go broke. Impossible
You'll spend 30 minutes on a report trying to decipher the horrible dictators and you'll be lucky if you make 30 lines in that time.
ATF broke me financially - I left after spending all my $$
anyway-----------and then all roads lead to STINKFEST anyway.
I just went broke because of a company and would love to share their name

We take a job expecting some semblance of constancy. We are not teenagers living at home.
And I have yet to meet an MT who does this for free, as a hobby, 40 hours a week.
Here we are, in the U.S., where insurance is expensive, the economy is mutilated and dirt cheap labor is just across the deep blue sea.
Some whine more than others but this Gourdpainter, I have been reading her for a long time, and from the tone of her posts, she is not a (an?) habitual complainer. She is helpful and considerate in her posts to new MTs and others who have a question.
United we Stand, Divided we Fall.
Just like the coal miners back in Pennsylvania, the company will let you eat coal dust all day long to save themselves the cost of ventilation, and then fight to not have to pay for the medical costs of an aging coal miner with black lung and ashen colored skin. No one made him go down there, I know, I know, but a man has got to feed his family. Work is work, you take what your skills will get you.
Fair enough - Some huge corporation is going to sue someone over a thread on the internet. This is about the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Have you read message forums elsewhere on here? There are disparaging remarks made about everything under the sun.
Word of mouth travels far and wide, and so does the truth.
So give us a break and let us make enough money to live a respectable life in this job which we do with steadfast dedication if we make it over 3 years.
Kindness reaps kindness. Consideration for the MT - For instance:
Supervisor: Gee Susie, work load is light these days, and your paycheck reflects that. How are you doing? Are you able to make ends meet? How can we remedy this in house or outside of this company so you can have an income you can rely on?
MT: Thank you. I would appreciate that very much. I am down to a few nickels after I pay the bills and am beside myself with worry. The anxiety sends me to MTstars where I vent in hopes of finding others who understand the DREAD AND FEAR I AM EXPERIENCING because I WORK ALONE ALL DAY LONG,without my comrades to take breaks with or have lunch with WHERE THIS TYPE OF VERBAL EXCHANGE WOULD ORDINARILY TAKE PLACE.
From the sounds of things, you'll go broke waiting
your resume. From the looks of things, it sounds like there is more crab grass than green grass in that Keystrokes pasture. Those who want to pay for equipment while being an employee can go ahead with their bad selves. That would be the number one for me. As an employee, they should not make you pay for your own equipment . Just put me in a if you think that Meditech is a great platform. That program is all kinds of outdated and NOT friendly at all! Okay, I've had my fun with the smileys!!!! Have a great day!
They will overhire and in 4 months you will have no work and will be broke - happened to me..nm

People don't "choose" who they love. My family is broke s/m
as broke can be, but I would not trade my husband or anything else for all of the money in the world. Your comment was pretty rude. The original poster is obviously just feeling discouraged. Who in the h*ll are you to judge who she picked or to act as if perhaps she just get a better husband? You sound like a spoiled child.
Not to mention your grammar. Are you an MT? You SHOULD OF CHOSE a better husband ?? Nice. You might be more careful the next time you want to insult someone that you don't come off looking incompetent yourself.

Trying to build his business? He's been in business over 15 years!!!!!! sm
I also had a hard time, nearly impossible actually, getting paid. The owner does this on the side; he is very involved with other things.
No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!
I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.
I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.
I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
If you don't know what is confidential, you have no business being in any business.
This is confidential information and should not be divulged. It is one of the biggest problems a co can have. If you have to ask...well I won't be able to explain it to you
Former QA Manager
your "former nurse" is inaccurate. This person was a great manager. She was a valuable assest to the dept. in that position. Any company would be lucky to have her.
As a former QA Manager....
I often said, only slightly in jest, that a full psychiatric eval would be a total GODSEND. Unless you've been on the receiving end of MTs who can't accept that diagnosing an 83-year-old female patient with AIDS (dictated "of advanced age"), is WRONG, then....welll.... (She claimed that she knew as much as ANY doctor, so who was I to suggest that she was wrong?)
And then there's the MT who believed that it was her first amendment right to transcribe whatever she liked because, dangnabit, she was a doctor in a 3rd world foreign country in a former lifetime...and threatened lawsuits because she was smarter than ANYONE else, so couldn't be touched by anything with white genetics...
Believe me. Psych tests aren't a bad idea.
No, not the manager.
Those were the responses I got when I asked about the sign on bonus. I was trying to dig up their old ads. You are right about the headers and footers too. My paycheck was short almost $500.
Re: manager
I'm not the person you were asking, but the person I'm pretty sure you're referring to is still there as of now, so guess it wasn't her. In fact, she seems to be handling it quite well.
Ops Manager
Do you mean the owner or someone else? I guess I have stayed under the radar so far. C
Have you tried to tell anyone about it? Such as your manager or sm
the Solution Center? They trouble-shoot issues like this all the time. Oh and don't blame the platform - it could indeed be caused by your routed or your ISP. I've been with them for 8+ years and no major platform problems.
All I know is that my first manager
told me that medical transcriptionists have always been job hoppers, always looking for a better deal, and that was back in 1990-something. It was after that that MQ came on the scene and started changing the industry for the worse IMO.
OSi manager job
Hi. I've been an MT with them for a while, and it IS as bad as people say it is, but an account manager position has come open and I'm thinking about selling my soul to the devil. (Sorry--I'm poor, and as anyone knows who has typed for them, the second I start making money, they add 15-trillion more hospital accounts for me to try to learn, slowing me way down.)
Does anybody know how much an account manager position with them might PAY and whether it requires RELOCATION? Neither of these crucial points are mentioned in their job ad. I'd ask them directly but I think I've been a thorn in the side of some of the higher-ups, though maybe not the ones I'd need to get along with, so I don't want to make myself known just yet. Anybody know? Thanks.
Who is the ops manager?
Who is the ops manager?

Not the Manager
I could bet you anything that you NEVER had an issue with the Manager. There are two people we report to, a supervisor and a manager. Yes, the supervisor can be a bit abrasive at times but as long as you stick to your schedule, produce your line counts and maintain your quality, normally nothing is said to you. One always has the right to go to the Manager if there is something that cannot be resolved.
If there are QA inconsistencies, there is a QA Challenge Program. I have had errors removed and I have also had them stick.
I have transcribed for over 15 years and I have never found a better company. I believe there are a lot more happier MTs than there are unhappy MTs at Axolotl.
They are able to offer us such good benefits and line rates because Axolotl is known for their quality. They are truly different than any other National company and/or in-house company/hospital, that I have worked for.
No, I'm not the manager! (nm)
I do currently work for Milner, and I'm happy here, but not everyone has the same experiences with companies.
Talk to your manager about it first of all. Then...
...if that doesn't work, most companies, depending on how much they are hiring, can find you a spot if they want you bad enough.
Sometimes recruiters are really restricted on what they can hire for, but if there are a lot of openings to fill I can hire a M-F person if it's a deal breaker and I absolutely don't want to lose them.
However, it doesn't happen often, the person typically has to have a spotless track record and reputation in the field, and they possibly will have to fit into a potentially difficult-to-fill niche (oncology or very high ESL, for example), but it's not unheard of.
Good luck!
Why would hiring be better with a new HR manager? The HR manager should not do the hiring. sm
The recruiter should hire. The HR manager should do the job of any normal HR manager and make sure the legal issues are done, benefits, etc. A recruiter is the hiring personnel. The HR manager is to do the inside job of human resources. That should make no difference other than with the benefits.
Yes the operating manager
is nasty and they want you committ to them but they will not committ to you.
