If we're a dime a dozen, companies like OSi are certainly a dime a dozen...sm

Easy come, easy go. I quit OSi and had 4 jobs within 3 weeks. Just had to choose. Rest assured, if the company I'm with now tries any of the ridiculous crap OSi pulled, on the road again I will be!
If I had the money for an attorney, I too would be filing a law suit, rest assured! This company gives Douglasville, Georgia a bad name and really should go to hicksville Carrollton where it belongs!

These MTSOs are a dime a dozen....
I don't think it should be the other way around. I'd say this company is not worth the time. JMO.
I'd move on - they are a dime a dozen
People just love to sit around and just take it, take it, and take it. You'd better find some other clients. You are an IC MT right? Get out there and find another MTSO or clients on your own. I wouldn't take that from no one.
Its a thing of the past. Employees are a dime a dozen now, and
you are treated like dirt. The more layers of management that are added, the worse it gets, especially in this business, because they put these little control freaks with no experience other than raising a few kids in charge of things and they only know how to rule by holding a whip.
Not a single DIME. We work for them, they're -
And $300 for a license fee? How do you spell S-C-A-M? My current company uploaded the necessary software from their computers to mine for FREE.
If that charge wasn't in the contract, talk to an attorney about it. I'd be willing to bet that what they did isn't legal.
Gad - they already gyp us in pay, and now they're 'double-dipping' by gypping us when we sign up? Absolutely incredible.
Not enough work and covering a dozen accounts

I'm not that poster. Unreal. She has explained herself half a dozen times by now.
It seems not.
Dime?
What do you mean, what do they ask for money for?
I wasn't paid a dime to say that...
I wasn't paid a cent to say that. That is my own honest opinion/experience. I have an excellent supervisor who is extremely friendly and helpful. I never run out of work and I have never had to change accounts the entire year that I have been there. Their software is the best that I have ever worked with and I love it. My pay is always direct deposited on time and I have never had any problems. Even if they do outsource, I really don't care. It doesn't affect my job with them and it never has. I have plenty of work, get paid and an treated nicely. That's all I care about.
If TTS owes you a single dime do what I just did
Report TTS to wage/hour. It is time to put a stop to the tactics of this woman and her dumb as a post lackey.
'Buddy, can you spare a dime?' sm
Don't you mean, 'Buddy, can you spare 0.0975 cents?'
JK!
If I had a dime for every CMT that I fired for quality issues.....
I'd have bought myself a few meals by now. Being a CMT doesn't mean you're a good transcriptionist. It just means you took the test and passed it. Over the years I've seen the majority of the better MTs were those that didn't have the CMT designation behind their name.
I just had 2 meds filled and never paid a dime.

I think you're giving all these companies the same grade and that (sm)
is not the case. There are some that will rip you off, change your pay, etc. like one mentioned above on this board. There are other evil ones who will intimidate to get their work done and others who will tell you how fantastic you are and give raises.
Anyway, I've worked for enough companies and found a world of difference and found some companies to be intolerable.
Can't anyone give the OP the names of any companies? They aren't asking for a psychology lesson, they are looking to make a paycheck.
What companies cut you off at 40 hrs if you're a FT employee? Any places let you do as much as

You're both missing the point. The companies
are breaking IRS laws when they do this. Employees are provided equipment; ICs provide their own. I know mechanics, and it works the same way with them. They may choose to own their own tools out of preference or so they can do work outside their employee job, but in an employee setting they are provided.
:-) If you're not happy there, there are hundreds of other companies.
Truth: There is no Lanier equipment on my account; there obviously still is on yours.
Truth: If you don't want to work extra, you don't have to, and you can't say that you have been forced to. Yes, naturally, if the account is behind, the owner is going to ask for folks to help out if they are available.
Truth: Contact with the recruiter virtually ceases after your initial QA period unless you just want to email to chat.
The recruiter also is responsible for putting a team together for starting new accounts, but after the account is up and running, the recruiter has nothing to do with the day-to-day operation of the account. I have been involved in 2 new account start-ups myself (by invitation and with my agreement), and the client specs have been updated as issues came up and were addressed.
I concur with the other poster who suggested that you contact Dorothy with concerns about the recruiter (although, if you're off QA, why is that even an issue?) and your account liaisons with concerns about not having updated account specs.
Meantime, I'll get back to work. :) If any readers would like to email with specific questions, please feel free.

Goodness, they're both awful companies. Why compare them at all?
maybe we're hoping companies listen up when setting
next year's goals...
Obviously, you're all nice people - both companies are blessed to have you
I've seen so many ugly remarks on this website that I was actually afraid to even post for opinions - but each and every one of you have been honest and most of all respectful. I didn't get the response - look in the archives. I think that is a rude and nonchalant response. To answer the question and give YOUR opinion, shows concern. This is a difficult field and somehow instead of cutting each other down, we need to pull together. I'm taking this opportunity to thank each one of you who took the time to respond.
They're not listed on MTD's Companies list. Maybe do a Yahoo search? nm

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.

No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.
ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.
Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!
This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
Hey, you're in luck then. They're hiring! (nm)

TransTech and Medware, are these companies considered large, medium-sized or small companies? (sm)

Yikes.. That is only inline with companies like Focus and such. "Real" companies pay their MTs
decent rate. I make over 5 cpl editing. So, if I got that slap in the face, I'd be outta there.
Do the research...most companies, and not just MT companies, do not pay for maternity leave...
we get time off but not paid...and I really don't even understand the point of you posting this...
You're right on it! They're just trying to cause panic.

How do you know which companies are Nationals and which are smaller companies.
Is there a list somewhere? I'm new to this.
By "most of the companies", I meant MORE than MT companies.

Sten-Tel is the platform. Different companies use it, pay and how companies run are different. nm

Nobody said MT companies were not for profit companies. (sm)....
As MTs we are an important segment of what it takes for the company to thrive, but we are still just part of the whole structure.
Not trying to be argumentative, just think sometimes we get that "I'm the quarterback" attitude and forget that we can't get anywhere without our line men.
Companies that outsource to other companies?
Anyone know of any reliable companies that will outsource to American companies and pay a decent line rate? I am amazed at what the companies charge and then want to offer in this business anymore.
I think they're new. nm
m
now we're getting somewhere....
Great qualities... absolutely. Can you be more specific. What type of communication do you think works? What doesn't? Concern is also important. But how far should it go. Certainly a company needs to be understanding if an MT has some problems, but remembering it is not the company's job to take care of someone, what about when the MT is not producing or working when scheduled? How long do you let it go on? What if the MT has chronic problems. What is the company's role here?
I can say my boss was ALWAYS flexible with my schedule, but I also made sure that I made up the time and the lines. I didn't abuse it.
