employees more benefits than the people at home, stating that working at home was a benefit in and of itself, and, unfortunately, those needing to work at home because of family or other reasons apparently bought into it. And yes, somewhere along the way, a lot of people have seen medical transcription at home as a bunch of mommies sitting in their jammies, bouncing babies on their knees. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but I think that is sometimes why they feel free to pay low wages, give little or no benefits, etc. They view it as mommy making pin money or whatever. For most of us, obviously, that is not the case. The women I know who work at home and have children are every bit as professional as someone you'd find in an office.
I pointed out to this company that by working at home instead of in their office, I saved them the money for office space and the need to provide equipment, office furniture, resource materials, etc., and I didn't understand how that added up to me getting LESS benefits than those in-house. Needless to say, I did not stay long.
I do not have children. I work at home simply because I can make more money beign paid by the line than being paid by the hour, which is what is offered for in-house positions where I live. When my mom began having health problems a few years ago, it was a blessing as I was able to flex my time and be there for her when she needed me, so I fully understand how much moms appreciate having the flexibility to be there for their families. It is sad in general how much the pay scale and benefits have gone down for the profession over the years. I made more 15 years ago than I make today, but then again there was not the competition from overseas, voice recognition, etc. back then. I guess everything changes and all we can do is try to adapt.
As I am writing this, I realize I probably got way off topic. Guess I should get ready for my shift and burn off some of this energy. Hope everyone has a happy productive day. Remember, we're all on the same side.

finally got a holiday off. I have worked them for so long, everybody quit even inviting me anywhere. This is the first time I have had Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years, mother's day, off in 21 years. Mostly just got one or two a year.

I wasn't that crazy about their platform -- seemed slow and rather klunky, but maybe I just did not stay long enough to give it a chance. Pay was a bit low, I thought (9 cpl), but it was always paid ontime and with direct deposit. The people there are absolutely GREAT to work with, in my opinion. You could definitely do worse. (I was only working part-time and took a better paying job, in case you're wondering why I would leave if it was so great.)

Nice people, husband and wife, but I found their word flagging/log keeping/bill payment methods to be extremely tedious and time consuming. This was a couple of years ago, so maybe they've changed things since.
Not sure if I can be of help, because I only worked for MQ briefly sm
and that was only part-time a long time ago, so I cannot really compare the two. The first week I trained for my PT position at MQ, though, I ran out of work 3 times -- that was enough for me!
I cannot say that Transtech is a good fit for everyone -- I doubt any company can say that -- but they have been great to me. The benefits are good and getting better as they grow, it seems. The pay is about average nowadays, I guess (admittedly, I always think it should be more), but the incentive plan is nice, and it is easy to achieve. I have plenty of work, which is a major plus for me. The few times I ran out on my primary, I have a secondary account as backup. The people in management are friendly and supportive, and genuinely care about the employees. That is not a necessity, I suppose, but it certainly is a nice plus for me. After over 30 years as an MT, I hope I have found a place I can call home and stay.

Because I have limitations due to health problems, I just could not handle the very high number of ESLs.....it was too stressful for me, but there was always work in the account that I was placed on, just couldn't handle the stress.

Super nice people. QA was really nice and helpful. The account I was on was a big group of long term care hospitals. I worked in the evenings, so I had a lot of facilities feeding in to me. They do that to make sure that the people who work in the evenings don't have to worry about running out of work. That part made it difficult, though, because I rarely had the same dictator twice. Heavy ESL, at least on the account I was on. You spell everything out - everything. Even normal abbreviations like PEG and PICC.
They are all about the BOS. That's probably what I had the hardest time with. I want things to be right just as much as the next person, but it got to the point where I was stressing so much about stylistic issues that I was making content errors.
It was a fairly new type of work for me, so I had to look up a lot of bacterias and pulmonary phrases that I didn't know before, which slowed me down initially.
It wasn't a good fit for me, but someone with more experience than I've got would probably do well there. The platform is something they call IType (I think) which wasn't any better or worse than any of the other couple of platforms I've worked on.

From what I understand, and if anyone knows different PLEASE correct this post, Landmark does all overflow work for various facilities. I'm assuming the account itself moved the work to India rather than Landmark offshoring it.
Again, if I'm incorrect about LM only handling overflow work, please let me know. Not trying to stir the pot or bad mouth the company at all, just not positive.

I did clinic work, for which I was paid 7-1/2 cpl (you get 1 cent more for acute care, I think), which was extrmely low for IC work, but the work was easy, and I liked that they paid every week. The wav files are downloaded from an FTP site along with the appt list for the doc you are assigned, then your finished work is uploaded to the FTP site. There was no special platform, just Word. I don't know about how the hospital side was done. The people there are great, and the QA people are friendly and helpful. The pay was always on time, direct deposit.

their cpl, insurance and incentives were decent but they ALWAYS OVERHIRE and then your stuck with nothing to do. There are much better companies out there. Are they looking again? I don't see the posting on this website.
I worked briefly for a temp agency.
They actually sent me out on a hospital job where I was paid hourly so that is the only experience I have. It was not production based or anything. They just needed some extra help getting caught up. It was mostly H&Ps and operative notes. The hourly rate was not bad...really not that much less than what I was making at home and they ended up offering me a full-time job as an employee, but I wanted to stay home work because of kids..

and you had to work there 90 days before you could have direct deposit. However, the paper checks were always on time. The lead on my account was great, as was everyone I dealt with. The platform used was ExText, although I do not know if they use that for all accounts. The help desk is apparently in India or somewhere, and communication must not be so great as I have been gone for several months and I still get calls to help out on one of the accounts. Good luck!

The people are absolutely GREAT, and the account I had was not difficult. I thought their platform was a bit cumbersome and I could not import my abbreviations into their expander, so my line count took a hit. They paid better than some, though, at 9-1/2 cpl.

BUT, it is not worth the time. The work was easy -- clinic work -- and I was already famliar with Bayscribe, so I thought maybe it would justify taking a lower rate of pay (8-1/2 cpl, I think) as the ease of the work would result in more lines. WRONG ... Their method of line counting hurts you tremendously. They do not pay for spaces, and then add in 10%. At MDI, I average 300-350 lines per hour doing acute care. With eTranz's method of line counting, I only did 250 lines with my fingers flying! SO ........ WAY less pay, much fewer lines ... didn't make sense to jump ship for that.
And, I must say, I found their QA person to be very snippy/snotty. Any questions I had were usually met with some kind of sarcastic reply. No one needs that.
If I had seen all of the warnings about no pay, I would not have even considered the position in the first place. Sometimes I suffer from the is the grass greener somewhere else syndrome, but I never leave because fact is, it isn't (for me, that is).

that had a little popup window come up when you had been gone too long and you had to fill in the reason why you were gone. A little bit too Big Brother for me.
If a company does not make overtime mandatory, and I simply want to make some extra money and get some more lines in, I ought to be able to do so without the company being forced to pay me time and a half. Sometimes we shoot ourselves in the foot demanding this and demanding that, and soon we end up with less than we had before ....but that is just my opinion.

I don't remember anything specifically negative about them. Just that the pay was kind of low and I didn't stay long because of that. The work was okay. Mostly local accounts from the Louisville area.

and difficult and slow to work with, I thought. I love cardiology, but this was not a good experience. Perhaps others have had more positive expeiences with the company.
If you like cardiology, you might try Cardioscribes. I think they are a great company and the system is easy to use.

and pay was okay. You had to wait 90 days to get direct deposit, and until then checks were mailed, which is a bit of pain, but they were always on time. I didn't care that much for my account, but the leader was always quite helpful. They must be a bit disorganized, though, as I still get messages from the help desk to help out, and I have been gone at least 3 months! And the help desk is apparently in India, if that makes any difference to you.
I worked for a small mom & pop too and they gave me a 30-day notice
that they had lost the account. They asked that I stay through the 30 days, which I did, and I appreciated the fact that they told me ahead of time. I'm not going to starve or lose my house if I'm out of work a week, but there are many MTs who would be in a real bind if they lost a week of work. There are lots of companies hiring so getting another job isn't the issue. You have to submit a resume, go through an interview and testing, and then if you are hired you have to get setup and go through training, and they may end up having to take the first job that comes along because they need a job. If we are expected to give a 2-week notice, why can't we expect the same from the company.
I didn't believe the rumors either, but stopping DD is a red flag that something is going on.
That's what they gave when I worked there. Don't give up -- Christmas is not here yet. :-)
You have a good attitude, though. Sometimes we forget to be thankful for the things we have. I just recently moved to another state, so I am still new to the area and everything, but before I moved, I volunteered at a local food bank once a week. I felt kind of silly and shallow about pouting because I couldn't buy a new pair of shoes or something frivolous when there were people who didn't even have enough to eat. (Judging by my ever-expanding waistline, that does NOT seem to be the case here! ha)

I worked on production in-house
and the base pay was 9 cpl. No differential, no OT pay. They did offer a very nice incentive plan where you could make as much as 10.5 cpl but I soon became aware that only the favorites got that. We did have to have a set schedule and most of us except a chosen few had to stick to it. We could work as much OT as we wanted. At this MTSO I work for, the base pay is only 8 cpl but we do get differential for odd hours and OT pay when available. They do have an incentive as well and I feel like they are fair with it. You do your work, you get it. There is no well....you took off a day, but there was a holiday.... I saw you walking the halls blah blah blah. I am a social flop but my new boss at this MTSO doesn't know that like my hospital boss did. She does not know that I drive a 15-year-old car, who my friends are, my I live in a cramped, cluttered house and that my clothes don't match. She just knows what I bring to the table as far as transcription goes. In my book, it makes a better work atmosphere. But again, that is just my experience.
Our supervisor when I worked in-house did it for fun
It was MT week and it was one of the games we had with a prize for who scored the fastest. It was some program she borrowed from HR that they gave to clerical staff as a basic typing test from hard copy, so that made it even more challenging, lol! The program automatically freezes up at the end of the time and calculates your score and errors. I netted out at 135/0 but second place was right behind me at 128/1, I believe. It was fun.
That happened to me at the first place I worked in house. -sm
I had to call them after a month of waiting for my last paycheck. They said they were waiting for me to come down and get it. Can you believe that? They finally put it in the mail.

When I worked in-house I was paid by the hour....
only had to maintain 135 lph...but I never heard of anyone who was reprimanded for not maintaining that. The nice thing was the hourly pay (between $13 and $17 an hour) whether there was work or not, PTO, etc. Had work 98% of the time and if not we could go down to medical records and help out or go home early.
Regarding cookbook - years ago when I worked in house (sm)
Our volunteer auxillary put one together for us from recipes we had contributed. They did it for 3 years and at first I didn't think much of it few of the recipes were ones I wanted to try. But over the years a couple of those co-workers are no longer with us and looking back over these books and the recipes they submitted sometimes gives me a moment to pause and put things into perspective.
I will print mine out and over time perhaps I will get to know some of my co-workers who contributed to this one as well.
Don't get me wrong, I would have been excited to get a bonus or a special little surprise, but this in its own way probably promotes more of a feeling of family among us.
Feeling mushy, gushy today I guess.

get the point across? This is far from the first time someone posted for information on a company that has been hashed and rehashed over and over. We only have a very small space in which to make our point (or subject) and I do believe I was polite. Unlike the cold hearted person who posted here Better yet, don't reply etc. etc. I asked the individual to search and explained how. Emphasis in a subject heading is not yelling, it's just trying to make a point. You certainly didn't feel that your capitalizing rude was just a power play did you? No, you did it for emphasis as I did. (Or, did you do it to be rude? I certainly hope you're a bigger person than that!) I don't look at every response and every comment as an opportunity to make someone feel bad, Instead I try to look at every comment as an opportunity to do some good. I think that by emphasizing how frustrating it is to be asked the same question over and over and, moreover, explaining how to search this forum I was helping avoid further unpleasantness. Just as I am now trying to encourage the readers here to rise above these petty attacks on each other. I am neither the grammar police nor am I here for self-aggrandisement. Should we all tiptoe around in fear of offending someone? I don't think so. I think that as long as you are not using offensive language, talking in a demeaning manner, that we all need to grow up and get a little thicker skin. Not every comment is worth arguing over. So, I'm done on this subject. I will continue to try to be helpful in whatever way I can. I will probably also continue to capitalize in the subject line if I feel emphasis is needed. I once gave my notice when I was in a non-MT position, gave
2 weeks, but the person I was supposed to train felt like she knew my job better than I did (although she knew squat) and was a pain to deal with, never on time, etc. so I only worked about a week of my notice before I left and told the person I was supposed to train that since she knew more than I did have at it. Anyway the owner wouldn't pay me for vacation. I filed a complaint with the labor board and they were more than happy to get my money for me.
Breitner can threaten all they want to. If you can document that you are owed monies, if Breitner can't prove that you aren't owed monies the labor board will be glad to collect your money. I would also file a complaint with the Attorney General . I have heard several people have had payment issues with them while the still worked for them. If people are willing to let them get away with it by just chalking it up to experience, then they will continue to try to get away with it. I'd contact the IRS too. I don't know what Breitner thinks they can do to you - let them threaten all they want to. A word of advice - DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT.
A company is ONLY supposed to verify that someone worked there, what dates they worked, whether PT o
and last date worked. It opens everyone up to a lawsuit if more is given, so most companies are told by their attorneys and business advisors to verify only.
No one has a right to a reference, only verification of employment.

Mostly focus groups, interviews, etc... I did the medical end and was paid for every 100 words typed if memory serves. The work was sporadic but decent if you wanted something extra. They call you when they have work and you can accept or decline. The pay was always on time through snail mail. HTH
I was briefly well psyched!!!
But then I went to the web page and they want $15 for it now (all kinds of sounds, although most would probably make me nuts!). Some day when I have the expendable cash, I may go back, but, for now, I guess I'll just have to deal with my computer sounds au-naturel.

I can't believe some of the things these people say here, and have to wonder if it just the same person or two bashing. I have been at MDI for four years and I do not have a low workload and I get treated very, very well.

just expects their MTs to do their job. Ever think of that?
I ask because I have worked for the same company
for 15+ years, and I don't like the way they are conducting their business right now. So, I ask. I think, like everything, you can take it with a grain of salt, BUT when you see a consistent complaint, then there is cause for alarm.
I also want to know if a company pays fairly, keeps their word with regard to what is offered, if they have a high number of ESL doctors on their accounts, what type of transcription platform they use and is it easy to learn, and how quickly and accurately QA answers questions.
Those are not things that can be observed from an ad for employment and instead come from the people who work for a company or have worked for a company.
If this is the only company you have worked for then you don't know
there is any better out there. I don't mean this to be ugly, but if you only have one year of experience you aren't qualified to be an editor, I don't care how good of an MT you are. It just isn't enough experience and speaks tons for the quality of work that is produced. Since I was also in QA I know the kind of work that is produced. I've been in the business nearly 20 years and I'm still learning.
I was actually offered a management position with SS after working for them for only 4 days, so obviously I'm good at what I do and they had no complaints with me. Everything I said is/was true.
They were the best company I ever worked for (sm)
I left because I needed benefits of an employee position. However, they were the nicest QA. They left you alone. They didn't have the nonsense I've dealt with at Webmedx. I would have loved to have stayed with them if I could have afforded to. If you get your benefits from someplace else, they're really worth it.
What others are saying about having a hard time getting hired on is absolutely true, however. They don't have a dedicated recruiter, but instead have an owner who is wearing many hats including that of recruiter. I had to message her several times, call multiple times, and really pursue it to get hired on. I was persistent, and later I was glad that I had been.
I haven't been with them for many months now. They were a bit behind with technology, but not the worst. Being able to work whenever you want is definitely a huge plus.
I would highly recommend them still. Just know you've got to be persistent to the extreme to ever get past the resume/interview/email stage.
