no one really has a right to tell you that you cannot work for as many people as you want. However, as someone pointed out, most companies nowadays have you sign a contract with a no-solicitation clause, stating that you cannot solicit work from any of the accounts you have worked on for them for 1-2 years.
Still, I do not broadcast to either company that I am working for someone else. I simply let each company know the days I am available to work for them.
Hope this helps. Try not to let the nasty/negative posts get to you. There are always those in every group who take more joy from tearing someone down than listening and possibly lending a helping hand. Fortunately, they are NOT in the majority.
Good luck!

All nationals I work for you only work 40 hours unless they approve overtime.

I work for 2 nationals and one knows
that I work for the other. I asked them when they were hiring me if it would be a conflict of interest and they said no. Only my team leader at my main job knows I work for the second job. The only problem I have is some days I get their programs mixed up. I'm constantly hitting control S to spellcheck and send the chart when it's F7 at the other job.
Both nationals I work for are low on ops. Which company sm
do you work for that has so many?
I find that those with experience with any nationals or many nationals
usually are invaluable if they have many years of experience. The more nationals they have worked for, they have been exposed to many dictators and that is a plus! I say send on the resumes if that is the case. I also find that many hospital employees whether it be for 1 year or 10 or more usually are limited in style issues, but not a major disaster.
Which nationals do not send work out of the country?
Which nationals do not send work out of the country? I need to find another job.
TIA.
Nationals with 10- to 12-hour window to work 8 hrs?
I did a search in the archives, but the info I found was a little outdated. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Where you live doesn't factor in when you work with nationals.
When you work on-line, companies will pay the same regardless of whether you live in NYC or in some small town. I live in a small town and I am nearing $40,000 as an IC for 2 national companies. My pay is not based on where I live or my cost of living, rather on my production. I am paid 8 cpl, but because I use an Expander and can transcribe 250 lph, I make a decent wage.
This is only my third year as an MT and I have been with one of my companies for a year and a half and the other one for 8 months, so it doesn't take years and years. I did have to change jobs a few times though until I found the right companies and the right accounts that I could make money on. Some of the accounts I worked in the beginning had so many ESLs and the platforms were so slow that I knew I could never make any money there.
Have not had a full day's work since the 4th. Any other Nationals out of work?
Getting really frustrated. Took a new job because they said there was plenty of work -- overtime. National MTSO with new accounts coming in every day. Since July 4th, have not had a full day's work. I know things can get slow in the summer with doctor's vacations, etc. and around holidays because elective surgeries are down, but this is getting ridiculous. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem, is this normal and expected, or did I choose the wrong company to go with? Can't afford many more of these days. Most I ever went with low work after a holiday or during the summer with my other employers was 2 days, and then usually went into overtime, so could make up those days. Can't make up 2 weeks. Just curious. What has been your experience as far as longest drought period you've gone through with a company. Thanks.
How long ago did you work there?
How long do you have to get your work done as an IC? sm
Do you set your own schedule or have certain times they want you to work? I worked as an IC before and they made me work a 10 hour window every monday through friday. How is Medware?
And just how long ago did you work for them?
I have been there a year and the QA staff is great. No calls in the middle of the night for stats. This is a good company and they have constantly gotten better since I started and they weren't bad then!
How long ago did you work there?
Just curious as they are hiring I think.
How long ago did you work
For Transcend? They no longer have a production team. The team leaders and regional managers are transcriptionists. QA is done by transcriptionists. Also, even though your account may be on VR, that does not mean you will editing all reports. It all depends on which doctors are on editing. There is still a lot of typing on VR accounts.
How long ago did you work for them?
Maybe it is better now. Could you elaborate further, please.
And how long have you been without work? Do you do VR? - nm

How long ago did you work there?
What other company names are associated with this company?
How long did you work there? sm
It took me a good week, week and a half to be comfortable with my account. My SIL also works for KS, and she did not like the account she was on and told them, and they moved her to another account, which she loves. She followed me there and they took great care to find her an account that was better for her. My neighbor, on the other hand, did not last. They let her go after a week for quality. I felt horrible as I was the one who got her into transcription many years ago and she is angry with me because they let her go.
how long ago did you work sm
there? Is it recently or in the distant past?
Thanks
I work here, but not for long...
All I can say is people are very unhappy and leaving left and right. They switched us all over the Turbo Speech program and we aren't nearly as productive as we were in EXText. Also, they do send some of their work to India and our supervisors are nonresponsive. You feel ignored. The benefits are good (lots of PTO, like 2 weeks plus sick, but paid at a base rate of just over $9/hour, paid holidays, 401k matching, and decent insurance) and we seem to have plenty of work now, but I'm leaving. I prefer text and responsive management. As far as lines go, it's VR now and you are lucky to get 300/hour.
Good luck!
Just how long have you been out of work?
We all know that with this industry the work is feast or famine. Have you had times of feast, too, with Transcend? Has it just been the summer months that have been bad for you with your accounts? Or, has work just been dwindling down now for many months in a row on every single one of your accounts?
Do you do a variety of work types? Do you do VR and straight transcription.
Please understand that I am not trying to be a jerk. I am an MDI-er and I really, really want to know what to expect. I remember last summer at MDI I nearly had no work and I was infuriated. Then, along around September or so, it started to pick up again. Go figure. Thanks in advance to your reply
How long did you guys below work there?
nm
Okay - I probably didn't work long enough to get used to it. nm

How long you been at Webmedx? I currently work there and
think they are a great company except for slow issues. Where you going?
It has been little or no work for a long time now.
And the only thing I can get are those editing jobs that don't even come close to reimbursing you for the time spent trying to clean up the mess. I think making money at Transcend is a thing of the past. This company is definitely on my list of things to get rid when I do my summer housecleaning.
I would work also for as long as I could stand it...nm

How long ago did you work for Focus?
Why would a company keep wasting their time posting ads if their intention is not to hire the people who apply?
I work there now and have every other MT who works on the account that I work on - listed on my IM. There is not a single Indian name.
I have an American team lead and they will soon replace any remaining Indian TLs with American TLs.
Obviously, a lot has changed since you worked there.
As long as anyone's work schedule is
approved by their supervisor, that is between them and their supervisor, not anyone else's business.
Thank you for replying...how long did you work for them?
Let me get this right...if you had typed the report, but it went to QA with a blank, then you didn't get paid for the entire report that you typed? Is this the norm at most companies? Doesn't seem fair to me.
As long as you have work and are not running out, why worry? sm
I know exactly what company you are referring to and they HAD to do it to be able to keep within TAT. There were not enough MTs and not enough QUALIFIED MTs applying. I have not heard of many people being out of work. Are you running out? I was also disappointed, but I have to pay my bills and the rest of the companies out there are far worse than ours. Trying to find a company that doesn't offshore and pays well and has decent dictators is extremely, extremely difficult. Hang in there!!
Any long-time QTers here? Do they have enough work to go around? Thx. nm

I work for KS and not in Meditech. I do not need long distance either. sm
I think it depends on the account. I have never been this happy anywhere until Keystrokes.
Agree! Been around a long time, and the work I see SM
coming in from overseas (in general, any foreign country)needs extensive editing. The medical terminology is not so much the issue, but rather the poor grasp of our language. The reports produced from my experience are quite an embarrassment to those in this profession who have worked very hard over the years. I can decipher a report typed by an ILP vs. an American MT the second I look at it. I have quit editing and refuse to edit reports typed by overseas MTs in the future. I decided that I will not be an enabler to fix the mess that comes in so a company can come out smelling like a rose. Give the work to those of us who have the years of experience and education in MT at a fair wage, and in the long run it will be cheaper, with little to no editing would be necessary. Hello? It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. I know, it never will be like the good old days, but we can only hope that some form of restriction will be implemented to keep companies from outsourcing our citizens' personal medical information overseas. We can only hope!
I DO keep track, and work long hours, but only
If I say I can't do the minimum line count in 8 hours, they say I'm too slow. But if I eliminate quality (by not proofing or not correcting grammar, and just typing verbatim) then I hear about that, too. They just say to work harder, work faster.
The MTSO's only care about their precious TAT and volume. What we have to do to ourselves in order to accomplish THEIR goals is of no importance to them.
The only way it ever will be is if someday they happen to get put under a microscope like other fraudulent US businesses have, lately.
What I wouldn't give to see the fat-cats at AHDI up in front of Congress trying to explain themselves some fine day. Could happen.
Meant to say, I would not work for that company. A long day and still going!!

This is a gambit that won't work over the long term
I don't know many experienced MTs who are signing on for this VR for less pay. Before anybody chimes in who has a unique situation and loves it, save it. I've heard it before. But if you look at the job board, you will see that there are some MTSOs who use no VR as a sales pitch to attract good MTs. I also know of my local hospital where the MTs there are being forced achieve a minimum amount of minutes on VR or their pay gets docked. This stems from the bogus sales pitch that the dishonest vendors fed the management. That you can do VR faster so you can pay less. The MTs aren't happy and are looking for work elsewhere.
Also, when I lived in Manhattan during 9/11 was down for a LONG TIME - no work
and my pay had dropped to almost $14/hour from $25/hour. No phone lines, no work coming in, no way to transcribe.
Gosh, I definitely pick all the wrong places to live!
Beyond Text doesn't work long enough to allow you to get any lines. nm

internet work or long distance plan? -nm

You must not have been with Transtech long enough to see the lack of work periods. nm

I also vote for Webmedx - used to work for the Q, left long ago sm
Have not worked for Transcend or SoftScript so can't judge. I agree with the above poster; pay good, shift diff, PTO, decent bennies. Lots of work. Keep in mind there are two parts of Webmedx - the one on Enterprise platform and ChartMatrix; the ChartMatrix side seems to have more negative reviews.
there was a lot of 'out of work' comments long before and leading up to any - sm
negativity, which, I might add, seem to excalate as the baren dayes turned into months.
my experience on this site.
And expect to work long hours but somehow you only make peanuts.
I suspect that they must not pay for spaces, headers, etc.. as you can work all day and somehow you barely have any lines. I smell a rat.. very suspicious to me that you could work so hard and it just never adds up.
I work that, had TONS all day long, never ran low got to 1500 lines WITHIN my shift too. nm

Just started with DSG not too long ago and finding a shortage of work right now. Do they overhire
sometimes or what. Seems it goes in spells. Anyone seeing the same thing right now. This started before the holiday time.
Remember, you are covered as long as you have documented Out of Work tickets - sm
You can still qualify for holiday pay if you try to get in your 32 hrs, and receive the NSA message. If there is no work, there is no work and they can't hold your holiday pay.
made type -- SO UPSET OVER TT and their NO WORK situation way TOO LONG now
sorry about type, but very, very upset with the TT has lost any concern/care for their MT's who make their paychecks for them. Dictatphone doesn't pay you your salary, nor pay for your raises. Your MT's allow your paychecks the remain the same and allow you to give yourselves RAISES.
Leads/sups, etc are transcribing OUR WORK now and we have none to little no paychecks to pay our bills.
You who are thinking of hiring on with TT better give some very consideration to your decision. GOOD ADVICE.
Nationals
A lot of people mention how they won't work for nationals and the smaller companies are so much better in their pay and treatment of employees - can anybody name some examples of smaller companies who are better? There are so many out there, a few examples would help. Thanks.
No I don't do nationals.
I have over 15 years of experience on-site and was asked by physicians to work for them from my home office. I have only tried one national, and I did not like the platform. It was VR. I'm a free spirit, I guess. I'm an independent contractor, keyword being independent. I guess once you are your own boss, you pretty much get set in your ways. I don't know. I make great money though, and to me, there is nothing unrealistic about my paychecks. They seem very real to me. They cash at the bank in a realistic fashion. I use the real money that comes from the real physicians that I work for and I transcribe for real patients and I do a REAL good job or else I wouldn't have my real good paycheck. Everything seems pretty realistic to me.
ONE OF THE BEST NATIONALS!!
Transcend is an excellent company to work for, I have not had a bad experience with anyone there.
50 nationals?
Wowser. You must have a hard time remembering your reasons for resigning. My goodness. That is a large number of companies.
You'll work as an employee, not IC. Need your own C-phone and pay for your own long distance line
