I was told by several actual Indiam MTs that they were trained by watching ER episodes and typing SM

as the show was aired. They were rated on their speed, not accuracy! He said that when he did start working, the actual reports were to be edited in the US, so accuracy did not matter. I found this shocking, although the best line rate there at the time was 2-3 cpl. His accounts that he was assigned in India were for many US VA hospitals He has since come to the US and works online for a major company, last time I spoke with him, he was getting 11 cpl. He must have been trained with one of the more complicated episodes of ER...LOL BTW, I did tell him that he should be an entertainment industry MT, he would probably make more money...

You take the Geritol and start typing, Missy. Big brother is watching! They
Can't put up with that kind of bull from my employer!
watching everything they do

You know what - I've been watching
FN posts now for a while - and I experienced nearly the same things myself years ago - the no work, the no answers to emails, the cherry pickers, the lousy QA and am watching someone else now who is being treated very well and makes me kind of wonder if they don't overhire and then kind of weed us out and see who will take what, etc. I'm going to have to watch this other situation and see what develops... interesting!!
Then we best be watching our backs
and socialism has really been around longer than we think because I was let go from a job in the year in approximately 1962 because of an abortion. That is right. Worked at a children's hospital that was affliated with a bigger hospital, went to the bigger hospital and was fired from the other. So I guess socialism is nothing new, right?
What is odd here is watching the MTers
busting a gasket because of their inability to work at VR. Anyone who cannot make money doing it usually say it is for slow transcriptionists when they know they are the ones who just cannot catch on on how to make a buck from it. All the companies are headed that way. I read people say I can transcribe over 2000 a day and then they say I cannot even do $100 a day with voice. I see everyone going elsewhere, going to work at McDonald's, going to have to pay them what they make at straight, aint gonna happen. I have 25 years and tired of working my fingers off, want to do the easy way now with voice.
Already trained, not by me
Reports were corrected numerous times and sent back.
Have you been trained yet?
They only spent an hour training me on the Dictaphone platform and no training at all on the account notes. They emailed them to me and told me to type away. There is no limit to the amount you can type either. I am a high producer and had to send them all to QA. Transtech is a friendly place to work but I was not impressed with the lack of training. It is definitely for people who must work on their own. I think I got paid for 8 or 10 hours training pay and that was it.
The way I was trained as an MT
First of all, I have to say that Long-Time MTs attitude stinks.
That said, I did not attend a formal training program, but was mentored to become an MT. I was taught that I should know whether a drug is brand or generic and, thus, whether or not it should be capitalized. In addition, I should know correct dosages and what the drugs are used to treat!
With all due respect, I think that if you have to continuously look up the same things over and over, you should find a better system. I was also taught that to have to do so is a waste of time, and we all know that time is money, especially in this business.
Why not get trained on it then you will get a mix
/
Yes they can. If you have to be trained
for your job, i.e., maybe new procedures, software, etc., yes they can if you want to continue to work for them. Even as an IC, you have to meet their requirements to work there.
Guess I better start watching for it. sm
I sent in my papers last Friday.
trans companies watching
Funny story - several companies watch this board and feel they can use the information posted as a slander suit against those doing the posting. Funny thing is, all posting would have to be proven inaccurate and if they are not the companies spoken about, then why would they worry if it were them. If it is them, then they would also have to prove it was not true. Be careful posting, there are several who monitor and act as if they are one of you. As you all know the signon information, including what some feel are initials are usually an acronym or petname. You could be mistaken for someone else.
Most should probably spend their time making sure they keep their nose clean and their people happy. Not only do they drive us crazy in our professional lives, they have nothing better to do then to reach into our personal lives as well.
Trans. cos. watching board
Not the least bit worried. We enjoy a fair comment privilege to state our opinions, and we can make assertions and tell our experiences. They have no leg to stand on. I think their threats to initiate *slander suits* is hilarious, and ironic since MTs are the ones being acused of being sue-happy. If any of you transcription companies are monitoring this message right now, take this: You're a pathetic, crooked company, you cheat your MTs and your clients. Now try to find me!
I have been watching this KS bashing and hope that it never happens to sm
my company. You are horrible, bitter, miserable people who seem to have nothing better to do than throw in 2 cents that mean nothing. I am apalled at the childish behavior of adults and profassionals.
Long distance? All of my 32 of my employees have to provide unlimited long distance or be local to Atlanta. They all have either cable digital or Southern Bell and no one complains as it is not very expensive and does not really add to their regular phone bills.
If you want more than 0.06 per line, you have to be willing to give and take too. MTSOs are here to make money too and I think you would be very surprised to see that we do not make as much as you think, maybe even less than some MTs.
I'm going to start watching this more closely also. (sm)
Do you think the lag will get worse as new accounts are added?
I've been watching for years now - sm
I'd say you are correct. Lots of companies I've never heard of and most of them seem to be IC. You never see any of the big MT companies on here anymore it seems.
I personally would never take a chance on an IC job unless I knew someone who was already working there and actually getting paid.
If the VR program has been trained and you are
little manual transcribing (and you are an experienced MT to start with), you could expect to be at about 2000 to 2500 lines a day in just a couple of months. At 3.75 cpl, that is $75 $93.75 a day.
If you do manual transcription on a good platform and can average 1500 lines a day at 9 cpl, you would earn $135 a day.
You would need to factor in if they pay for headers, footers, spaces and if everything you are getting is VR reports from the more difficult dictators with a lot of editing that would be needed AND how often they run out of work. Sten-Tel has a reputation of giving their MEs the harder dictators and running out of work often, although your mileage may vary.
I'm only trained on 1 account. nm
I actually prefer to be trained
this way rather than getting stuck on the phone endless hours. Would you mind emailing me the name of the company?
yeah, they are watching and people take the bait

Watching who is posting for jobs to keep current, but not

Trained, but didn't like software
The staff was very nice, seemed organized in getting equipment out. Was not disclosed full details of shift. You must be on 8 hours, you are logged the whole time. It took the better part of a day to be set up. The next day it took an entire morning to be trained. The trainer did not seem well versed with the software, constantly put on hold to take other calls. Constantly said will call back in 5 minutes and it would be 2 hours. Not paid for demographics that take a lot of time and software was very cumbersone and to me not production friendly. Positives were employee status and the benefits were average. Was told top pay for acute care is 9 cents 65 character line. I decided it was not for me, but someone else may like the software and adhering to a strict schedule. Everyone was friendly.
When I trained/worked for Medware,
more than 2 hours because the trainer like to gab and not necessarily keep on track with the training. So, no guarantee that you will be finished.
If there are backup accts then everyone should be trained on them
If there is no work and no backup account then there is a huge problem. Please clarify the above. Have you asked for a backup? As for working at Sears, Im sure if business was slow you would have to stick around but they would pay you for your time.
trained 2-3 days after contact....sm
I work there now. My training was 2-3 days later. I live in California, they are in Maryland, I did not have a long distance bill . They call you and you have your training watching them teach you on thier computer, the training is short.
I have been there 3 years and only do rad. I was trained well and love my job. sm
The only complaint I have is that 2 accounts I was on went to Powerscribe. I was put on different accounts because I do not like to edit VR, so there was really not a problem. I get a lot of work and love my lead!
MT for many, many years, hired, trained
And you think x is trying to be superior?
I have a question. If what you say is true, that people on here ask legitimate questions and there are no dumb questions, only people too dumb and proud to ask questions, that does not also responses as well? Why is it that x has been relegated to the bottom of the heap of humanity for expressing hers?
SHE'S the one with the attitude? Puh-leeze, go stand stand in front of a mirror and deliver that diatribe to your audience of one.
Don't be watching and waiting. Been there for years and never any type of acknowledgement...nm

I trained the voice recog at a company
Was running perfect for a while and then it all went to heck in a handbag. Took more time to transcribe an ASR then for me to retype the entire report especially since all my docs were macro'd. I believe they tried it overseas left the filter on and it got all messed up and I think they will continue until this particular company has all editors and will be making appx 7.50 an hour, that is what an ex-supervisor from there told me. Needless to say I moved on.
When is the next actual payday for TT?
I will be starting soon. When does the current pay period end, and then when will the check for this pay period be paid? Is the pay period Monday through Sunday, then it is paid by the following Monday? I will have DD and want to plan my finances this weekend. If I can get a pay date for the next check, I can plan ahead for every two weeks. I forgot to ask the recruiter and don't have my packet yet. Thanks.
not for test, for actual job
x
Are you an actual DR employee?
Or did they hire you as a hospital employee? I didn't get anything and I was surprised because they sent me something for Thanksgiving. I didn't want to ask my supervisor because I didn't want to sound like I expected something.
It's actual work......
nm
Sorry, actual not actuall. lol n/m.......
x
Perhaps an actual answer.
Sheesh! Does the sniping never stop!
I don't know if TT is still offering the bonus, but you can easily call and find out. In May 2008 my husband and I bought a Prius, and I asked about the incentive. At that time, they still offered it and we did receive it.
And by the way, we saved nearly $3000 in gas expenses this year driving the hybrid. Yes, gas prices dropped, but we actually drove significantly more miles than the previous year, as my husband drives quite a bit for work.
Regarding some of the spewed responses posted here... geeze, give it a rest! Does anyone think for even a moment before they post something here? There are people who can still afford new cars. And just because someone is buying a new car does not mean they are going deeply into debt or into debt at all. That's their own business. If TT is still offering the incentive, then great! What car a family chooses and how they choose to pay for it is that family's concern and no one else's.
Have done QA and trained folks and will tell you, not all experience is industry standard
x
Who did your training? When I worked there, I was trained from someone in India, very hard to
understand what he was saying. Communication is less than ideal as there seems to a language barrier and comprehensive. I used to think NO was a universal language but to them it just means keep asking until the other person is so frustrated they are ready to reach in through the phone lines or IM and tear out your vocal cords LOL. Joking aside. Awful experience. I worked too hard, made too little and the HR person was the worst EVER.. real airhead.
I'm being trained for QA, and the guy taking me through the training acts like it's rocket sci
I think he's making it out to be harder than it really is. Glad to hear so many actually find it easy.
The hospital I work just contracted to send our overflow to MDI. I've been watching as our SM
minutes slowly dwindle. Last meeting we had, we voiced our concerns about losing our work and Transcend/MDI outsourcing overseas, only to be told that administration is happy that TAT is being met and so they are going to continue to send work to MDI on a daily basis and we don't believe they are sending OUR work overseas.
My hospital is a prime account to be sent overseas, a medium-sized community hospital, three (count 'em, three) ESL who aren't hard to do at all with the resting being very good, very American dictators, easy to understand. No way would a service give this account to an American MT who could stand to make a good pay check doing this account.
I think the next step is to get rid of us all and send everything out. If that happens, that's it for me, I'm getting out of transcription all together. I know I definitely won't go to MDI for a job, like they would put me on this account where I could pull in 2000+ lines a day.
I've worked too hard all these years to be treated like my knowledge, skills, and education doesn't matter and to be paid peanuts for these skills I have worked hard to acquire, improve, and maintain.
I'm just really bummed today. My job future isn't looking too good right now. I hope I'm wrong.
Bye Bye Birdie. Could you email me too. I've been watching the board and interested in your findi
since I also have been on the job search from you know where. I would be interested in any information you would want to share.
You would think the actual transcription portion, if
That's IF there is one. And a transcription test is more indicative of the kind of work you'll receive. Hellllllooooooooooo!
you just don't discuss pay. Ranges maybe, but not actual pay (sm)
As with every company that I know of, there are big ranges in pay, and it just should not be discussed on a public forum, or actually even with people you know. Not everyone may be offered the same thing and it causes too many problems. Any professional person would know this, no matter what field you are in.
companies or the actual jobs
Do you mean keep a list of companies that you work for or the jobs you work on. Any company that i get info on i save so that way i have it if i need to find another job.
They are interested in actual time. SM
I switched to them from the Q, and they are a vastly better company. Full-time is 35 hours a week. You do punch a time clock. I don't find them very flexible, but I think that's just my supervisor. I have only been there 6 months, so barely any PTO yet, and my STM (their acronym for supervisor) would not allow me non-paid time off for a non-pleasure trip to help my sister with something very important, so I didn't go. She would have switched me to part-time status had I gone. I am very productive and accurate, so I did not appreciate that. E-mail me for more specific details on bonus structure, etc., if you'd like. They will definitely expect you to work your chosen schedule. If you think you will need time off for any reason within the FIRST YEAR, make sure you tell the recruiter.
That's because it's actual hospital employee and

It may be an actual person who pays, but
they're using a home phone number and personal email address. Their website was extremely amateur and advertising web radio.

Wow, a company with actual ppl and not reasonable facsimilies!
It's nice to know there are still companies out there that give a darn about you. I'm sorry for your losses and very glad you didn't have to worry about HR coming down on you cuz u took 1 minute too long on your time off. Jobs worries can add so much stress to a person's already hectic life.
The actual program behind it is AnyModal Edit, sm
It is hard to make money on anything that uses AnyModal Edit. I went from one company with it, to Transcend who says they use BeyondTXT, but once I got started turned out it was the same program in the background for editing, AnyModal Edit. Don't be fooled, it is very hard to get a good line count with this program. I can straight type 250-300 words per hour easily, but in this program for VR struggle to get 150 lines per hour, you have to edit a lot, this program is awful and it's faster to type most of the reports.
