Large teaching hospital, 80% ESL, need experience doing op reports including transplant surgeries, da Vinci Surgical System, etc., lost of neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery experience.
Actually, sounded great for me, love neuro, ortho and in-depth transplants and state-of the art surgical equipment; however, I turned it down due to low line rate, no shift differential, and I make more on the account I have now.
QA is run by DR.
Hours are Sun-Thurs 2nd shift
or Sun-Thurs split shift.
8-9 cpl, depends on how you negotiate that.
I think your supervisor is the hospital supervisor regarding shifts, etc.
I think she said the platform was Chartscript.
Good luck! Not enough pay for me.

Actually, my local hospital offered me MUCH less than what I make at my MTSO
By 4 cpl.

We need more details, please. nm

Anyone have any details?
Looking into Probity - anyone have the scoop on them? Their website doesn't say how long they've been in business, or much about their size, platform, benefits, requirements, etc. Does anyone actually work there or are they brand new?
E-me if you want details, MT *or* QA. nm
.
I don't know the details...
I just was told the contract expired and wasn't renewed...for what reasons I will never know. Total bummer man.

Of course, individuals will have different experiences. Some find the accounts a breeze and love it there. I found the accounts to be tough, the QA to be extreme and at times inconsistent. I know that it has been said here that the manager is better now, but this was the primary reason for my departure. I could have dealt with the stringent QA and the tough accounts, but nastiness and disrespect I could not handle.
I would suggest that you try them for yourself. The benefits are great and I loved the fact that I could see how much money I earned for each report I typed almost immediately after completing the report.
Even if the manager was not an issue, I do not think that I could have earned a decent living on the account that I was on. Give them a try, maybe you will get a better account and have a better experience.
See msg for details...
I believe full time is considered $900 per pay period (I think there are 2 pp per month). If they pay 8 cpl that is 1125 lines per day for 10 days. That is about standard (many places 1200 lines/day is full time).
They do have set schedules (I think).
You want details? sm
The owner holds your paychecks and you get paid late and then blames it on the postal service. They over hire and you never can make any decent money because there is too much down time. They don't do anything about cherry picking, yet they will b##h about it (I don't cherry pick because if I did, I would be in hog heaven and would not be writing this post). The owner is rude and you can never get feedback from QA even if you beg for it. Their tech support stinks to high heaven! You will never get anyone to answer any questions after they close at 5 p.m. They don't staff around the clock like most companies do.
The platform they use is EMDAT and not a very MT friendly one at that, so your line counts suffer. The sound quality of their dictations is substandard.
Just some concerned advice to anyone who might be thinking of going to work with them just to save a fellow MT tons of grief. I'm glad I found another company. I was with them for some years and put up and sucked it up and kept saying you have to take the good with the bad. My tolerance level is very high, but this has gotten ridiculous!
Any details?
I applied for the Ortho position too. Any details as to why this company is good or bad from former employees would be appreciated.
Why do you regret it? Any details?

Details of my plan
I chose the United PPO plan. If I remember right it has a $250 deductible, a $35 copay, and a 3-tiered drug copay ($10 -$30 depending on the drug). No referral is required for specialists. I'm not sure on the details of the other plans offered, but this is what I have.
Yeah, I'd like more details on this myself. sm
The MTSO sued YOU because THEY stole your time, effort, and talent?? And they WON? Hmmmmmm......I wouldn't be surprised if Robin herself didn't place this post.
Please, no generalities. More details.

I'm too new to know the exact details, but I too
remember all the negative posts and thinking not such nice things about the owner and thinking that is one company I'll never work for. The owner posted several times back then, admitted they had issues and were working on them. I don't know what the specific issues were so I can't say, though they do ask for feedback yearly from each MT and if you have an issue at any time they seem to be very receptive to trying to help resolve it.
What I fear now with the influx of resumes and subsequent hires is that there will again be lots of negative talk. KS is not perfect. I came from a company that seemed to be as perfect as you can get until they started offshoring and then got greedy and offshored more. It came back to bite them in the butt and they lost several accounts and finally went under. I had been with the company for several years so any move was going to take some adjustment.
I think there will probably be lots of MTs who come on board who will also have adjustment issues, whether it be a different platform, more ESLs than they are used to, etc., but I think overall it will be a possible experience based on all the posts I have seen recently about MQ and OSI.
I personally have some issues with KS, nothing major, but then I'm still in adjustment mode, but other than the company above and a small local MTSO I worked for, KS is next in line for the best company I've worked for.
They have a great reputation for radiology accounts and accounts actively seek them out, so someone must be doing something right along the way.
I'm sure there are plenty of details
and things going on that you were not privvy too, but sorry you had a bad experience. If I could ask one favor, it would be that you not bash the company while we are trying to fill positions - especially since your time there was quite a while back and not all the same players are involved.
platform details
Axolotl uses a proprietary transcription application built on top of Lotus Notes and MS Word. It's the same software for all accounts. Most MTs find it productive and easy to use.
Give details, please...nm

First for hospital, then outsourced still on same hospital work
and believe it or not, the hospital was so much easier. Had worked at the hospital for 11 years before they outsourced and then worked another 3+ years for the company they outsourced to. What a difference! The company had so many rules and regulations you could hardly keep up with them all, thousands of them, on the same account, mind you. The higher ups would not leave you alone, constant IMs about any and all. I have gotten to the age where I do not need all that and walked the other week. Have scheduled testing with another hospital for this month. Hope I make the cut, love the hospital work 1000 times more than a company.
The details have been given already. Read the posts
You want more precise specifics, leave an email address. I'm not putting my head on the block with specifics on a public board.

i work there currently - see message for details.....
pay has been on time. they pay twice a month. pay period runs from 1-15 and 15-30th. never a set day or set amt of days between pay periods so know idea how they figure it but we get a calendar with pay dates. direct deposit is offered. the company itself seems like a great company, very nice people that i have had contact with, communication good, benefits good; cons - still no set acct, i am in a pool and every report i get is in a different state so i can't learn the acct, the other con is we get paid for 65-character line with spaces, specifics says two spaces after period, yet the system changes all the two spaces to one space and just realized recently myself i only get paid for every one space i type and not both, thus, i am getting cheated out of lines and currently searching for a new job. email me if you wish.
Never heard of them. Could you email me the details. Thanks. NM

I would never give details of my own accounts
If this man is asking for details meaning names of your current clients, then he's looking most likely for new clients for himself.
No job is worth losing your own clients. Just be careful out there.
I worked for a hospital and wouldn't care if they called them, but in my opinion just like we have to do our research with the dictators thrown at us, so do the recruiters. JMO.
Also, their paycheck stubs have no details on them
I never know if I am being paid correctly or not. Why does such a large company have paystubs with no details...no breakdown of deductions either???
Why post a message like this with no details?
Don't remember all the details. Something like you cannot deviate at all...sm
From your hours for 6 months and some other junk before you could be actually considered an employee. Guess they think of it as a long probationary period. We all know things come up, especially if you have kids, elderly parents, etc. It just looked like they left themselves a lot of wiggle room to drop you without notice even if you had been working there 5 months and 29 days. There's quite a list of things you have to agree to, and I don't remember them all. They aren't really unreasonable, just inflexible, and a big CYA thing for them. At least that's what I thought. Gave me a bad feeling. Good luck.
Unless you giving specific details, not
general comments, they cannot know who individuals are.
Whoa, 18 days of PTO? Really? I'd sure like to hear the details on that. nm
nm
What do you mean not loyal to their employees? please give details
I would not want to work for a company that is not loyal, but in what way are they not loyal?
I just submitted an application to them. Can you give details? nm

oh dear. do you mind giving any details of
I had heard some negatives, long ago, but they are sort of a whisper now. I have heard that the accounts are really really tough - doozie I think was the word used, and that no matter how great the benefits are, you can't make any decent money. Then I heard that was just a bunch of rumor, but its like one extreme or another. do you mind expanding at all on your experience? I just can't handle going from my current job to an even more stressful situation. I think I'd just implode. thanks.
I personally have posted lots of details
on why this is not a good company.
I am in a pool... see inside for the boring details :)
When I started with TRS I was a 36-year clinical-only MT, and the reason I took the job with TRS was, among other things, the fact that they offered to up-train me into acute care. (In fact I applied at Transcend just before I applied at TRS and they said no thanks, don't call us and we won't call you, and they wouldn't even let me TRY the freakin' TEST, so I find it mildly amusing that now they've got me anyway.)
But I digress. Anyway... at first I was assigned to a somewhat-limited pool on a large hospital account (an account that was brand-new to TRS and in fact I think we stole it from 'the Q') and all I was doing to start with was discharge summaries and letters. Well, once I got used to all the different voices, I started begging for at least some consults and H & Ps because even though I had only done 'clinical' before, I had done literally thousands of excruciatingly-detailed consults and H & Ps for internal medicine, hematology-oncology, orthopedics, and a few others I can't think of right now, over the years.
Then, apparently because I could actually do the work (plus I got kicked off the usual 1-month mentoring full-QA program after only 10 days, because it was mostly a waste of their time to full-QA me), they started trying me on another account, which I was later told was the VERY HARDEST account TRS had in its inventory, and before long I was in the 'all-work pool.'
So now the 'hard' account is my primary, the original account (still with only discharge summaries and letters) is my secondary, and I also have a tertiary (which fortunately I don't get hit with very often because it has REALLY CRAPPY sound 'quality', scratchy phone lines or something) on which I seem to be on just consults, progress notes, discharge summaries, and H & Ps.
I am told that the 'goal' at Transcend is to have everyone working something like 80% on their primary account, with the other 20% on secondary and tertiary, with no more than 3 accounts (except perhaps in extraordinary circumstances), mostly so there would be fewer account instructions to keep track of.
I can't find out how many physicians practice at the hospital that is my primary account (short of manually counting them) but it is a 350-bed hospital where they do pretty much everything. Just on a rough guess, there might be around 100 dictators I run into. A certain number of RNs and PAs dictate in addition to the doctors.
They keep me on that 'hardest' account because I am actually pretty good at deciphering most of it. Of course there are a couple of real 'problem children' still, and they usually have as many blanks after QA gets done with them as they did when I gave up on them, so that makes me feel better.
Not only that... our people are very proactive about actually talking to the clients to try to resolve problems. One of the worst dictators was just recently talked to and she has gotten a whole lot better. I e-mailed the liaison to report that, and asked them to please pass the word along that this doctor's dictation had indeed gotten a lot better and we, the poor saps at the other end of that phone line, really and truly appreciate her efforts....
Anyway. I had better get back to the work that is actually available this morning....
Anything else anybody wants to know, just ask, and I'll try to answer as best I can. :)
Email me for details. Don't feel like getting bashed on here today!

Nice to hear. Can you give some details on the coverage?
nm
What incentives? What skewed raise policy? Give details!
Most every company gives sign-on bonus (is this the incentive that you speak of?) depending on need. It's the nature of the business. However, there haven't been any for quite a while at Transcend that I know of.
Shorter time for raises? How so? Show me the raise tier structure for long-time employees versus newbies, and how it differs. The raise tier is posted on the MLS website for all to see, and I certainly don't see anything that could be construed as shorter time for raises for newbies. If you have inside information, please ante up.
What enticements, specifically? All I can recall in the past is that people who had left recently were told they could come back and retain PTO seniority, or something along those lines. I don't see enticements being posted on job boards. If you do, please ante up.
Again, you won't give specifics, despite repeated requests. Vague comparisons aren't facts.
I will agree with you on one thing. Every company should value their dedictated, loyal employees. Your loyalty and knowledge is rewarded by the fact that you get a paycheck that is probably higher than a newbies because you aren't struggling to learn a new account rules, new doctors, and a new system. There's your personal reward. Experience.
This is a very competitive field and when employees are needed there has to be room for negotiation. MTSOs are not hiring on Wal-Mart standards.
Paid maternity leave at TransTech? Is that for real? Any details
would be appreciated. TIA
