After making multiple posts on MTstars about the low work my company has and no backup account, I have been asked to test for Focus after sending a resume. I just need another second job because as you probably know I have been getting little work. If it is this or nothing, is Focus alright to try? What other option do I have? I need work. Opinions please. I have heard some bad about Focus. I need to know if it is Focus or nothing what would you do? They are the only reply I have gotten from my resumes except others to say they aren't hiring at the moment.

Focus test
I took their test a while back and didn't pass. I have 11 years MT experience and 25 as a legal transcriptionist. Did you find their test difficult? At the time I took it, I thought I did well because it didn't seem that difficult. Go figure!

  I ACED it. It was a breeze! I have many years of MT experience.
Can you believe the GALL of this co. to send me out a blanket email saying I failed the test and then referred me to Career Step for more training? I used to be an MT instructor!!!!!!
I am SO livid. Why? Not because I failed. Forget them, I'm obviously too good to work for them. BUT the fact that I took 2 hours out of my PRECIOUS time yesterday to take the damn test in the first place.
NOT a good way to start my morning!

Info you asked for - employee status
PTO is generous, more than any other company I have ever been with, starts at 96 hours a year and goes up from there (this is to use for sick days, days off, and can be used on an an hour by hour basis).
Not sure about insurance since I don't need it, but I know they just switched companies and it is now much more reasonable than it was before.
Most MTs start at 8 cpl base rate with an incentive for all lines over 6000 in a pay period. You can also get raises after you've been there awhile if you earn them, but you do have to ask, they don't just hand them out - you have to prove yourself and then justify your request for a raise.
I have been with them a long time, seen all the changes and there has never been a better time to be a Diskriter employee - all the support staff and supervisors who caused problems in the past are all gone - ALL of them. I have heard the training now is minimal though, but the other MTs are there to help when you need it as well as the supervisor who has an open email and phone policy and only wants to help you.

I sent HR the fair labor laws info and asked if it was
for real and had a few interesting phone calls after that. Later heard somebody didn't make lines, got fired, appealed and proved we had no work, and UE told Precyse they have to pay. So pick a story..... It's like anything else, believe what you want.

Yes, I'm currently working for penuts and am still trying to get back pay of just over $1000.00. I've been looking around for greener pasture. It sounds like Focus might be just what I need. Again, thanks for your post.

and it was just like you said. I have 11 years experience and had to leave a couple blanks. MT testing is crazy. I don't know why it has to be so difficult. Oh well, moving on to the next company for testing tomorrow.

Just a question on Focus Infomatics (their ad was removed). Everyone is posting that they are totally an Indian-run company. It looks like their corporate office is in Massachusetts. I am a little confused about how they are set up and whether the company is run from India or just employs most of their MTs from India. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

eight cents a line? I posted my resume on MTStars site and received a form-e-mail from them stating they pay eight cents a line. Does anyone make more than that? Do they have a lot of ESLs, steady workflow, etc. Any info would be appreciated. I don't want to waste my time or theirs taking a test otherwise.

I took a test for a company and my foot pedal would work with the test and I had keep going back
over the dictation time and again to get all the words because I couldnt stop and start it by the foot pedal. What can I do about this.
Just took the test myself. No actual dictation to transcribe. Just a written test.
For 13 cpl, I might do it if the dictators aren't a total horror.
I just took the test today - thought it was a great test of MT skills.

There is no written test. Must have been a different company. I took their ortho test sm
and it was easy. You had to know your terminology but it was easy to understand AND I used my foot pedal.
Sad but true. You're asked to work NOW, then asked to stop NOW, then go again and then stop
If you dont get off the minute the hospital asks, even if you have no idea that they have requested that your to be off, then the hospital MTs steal your work right out of your queue and I mean reports you have already done. I dont understand the concept of having a contract with a hospital and then having to fight for work with the hospital MTs. We should have guaranteed work during our shift and enough of the the hospital wants you to help right now and then a few hours later they want us to stop working as the work is too low. It is crazy and I couldnt work like that so I had to quit.

Good points: Pay always on time and always correct.
Bad points: Work flow is not consistent (some days plenty of work, some days no work at all on the system).
Their QA for eScription Accounts are very inconsistent and do not follow account specifics. Change correct things and terms to incorrect terms (very very frustrating).
Indian based and Indian run company.
They subcontract out most of their eScription work to other MTSO companies.
Don't know about the other side of it using their NetCare system. I work on their eScription side of things, which is all run by the India based company.
Since they are eating up all of the eScription accounts, I thought I'd try them - needless to say it is not very profitable.
Don't count on making good money there. Many days without work.
To each their own. It may be a good fit for some.

and that's what I was told the line rate I could get.
And to top it all, I have a friend who has TWO YEARS experience and was offered 8 c/line for a PT position. PART TIME!!! And I'm getting 8.5/line for FT with all that experience in acute care? Something stinks here.
