I understand what you mean, Country Mt,

and I'm sorry that we can't all agree to disagree instead of acting like dogs attacking each other.
It's absolutely ridiculous that grown women feel it necessary to act the way some folks on here do.
Just know you're not alone in your opinion.

Must be another country, I have not
heard of anything at all like this and I try to catch all news, not just local.
What area of the country are you in?
//
Wrong Country
They are outsoucing to Trinidad and Guyana, with others coming very quickly.
moving to the country
I'm moving to the country and will not have broadband or DSL available for who knows how long. I have not been in this situation before and would like to know if any of you know of any companies that do not require either of these - I will have access to dial-up and possibly some sort of high-speed that is brought in by a radio receiver on the top of my house. It's a good move - just maybe not a good move for an MT - any help with companies that do not require high-speed with cable or dsl would be appreciated.
and what country are you writing from?
nm
There are plenty of MTs in this country
who WANT to work - and guess what? The work is not as plentiful as it was because of people like you who choose to support the economy of a foreign country rather than your own country. So, when all the US jobs are gone as you stated, it will be YOU who helped it happen, not us.
Country MT, you need to move - to
.
You are absolutely right. Also he is from a country
My fault for staying for so long. I also stayed in a relationship which he said was situational stress, and when I got out he thought I should have stayed. I guess that was my fault too... I am going to a woman soon, but I already changed my job to a good one which I know will take care of me. So, I guess I solved problems without a shrink... how to wean off the nerve pills... or not! LOL.
how do you get calls from "all over the country" sm
if you don't advertise or anything? Wow, you must be out of this world!
Work is going to India or some other country. nm
depends on part of country - I will take pay cut. sm
I'm an MT x10 years, great for growing family. Now that kids are in school going back for BSN (R.N. plus bachelors combined). Husband thinks I'm crazy. I make $55,000+ as an MT because of production + incentive. I transcribe 300+ lph and have an excellent line rate with a national.
I'm in the midwest, so as a BSN who does not get paid more than RNs here, I will take a huge pay cut, to the order of about $15,000 a year less. Why am I doing it, because I want to be a nurse practitioner or a P.A. eventually and want to love what I do - that will be more money in the long run too with the higher degree. I like being an MT, but working from home has turned me into a fat, lazy person who does nothing but type because it's easy money for me since I know the lingo and am well educated, plus I can type fast.
If you want to be a nurse, as another poster said - don't do it for the money, do it because you feel in your heart it is what you are meant to do because it is a very, very demanding job that requires a great deal of knowledge and skill.
Are all of their accounts out of CA or spread across the country? TIA (NM)
xx
Does Transcend outsource out of country?
I was told when I was hired that their editing is for VR. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I know for a fact they offshore, what country I don't know.
In an interview a team leader let slip that they offshored and that is was the good stuff that was offshored.
Try a board in a third-world country
because it sounds like that is who is left working for them.
And the jobs will then be shifted to another country.
It will always be about the almighty dollar and companies will always be able to find someone in the world who will outbid American MTs.
Our whole COUNTRY is full of complete
*
Not my responsibility to develop their country
It stands to reason if they built their own hospitals, which they could easily staff with all the Indian ESL dictators we currently struggle with (while we hand them the moneymaking easy ones on a silver platter), they then could do their own transcription for their own healthcare providers. Why the heck won't big business invest in building them some of their own hospitals? Because this is about profit, NOT altrusim for our fellow man!
Maybe you're going to retire in a couple of years, so you don't really care about the future of this industry. But if not, when you lose your current job to outsourcing, will you still deny there's a problem? Or will you take another job for less pay, again and again, until the industry completely leaves this country - then will you realize there's a problem? When you are forced out of this industry, and find the competition for other types of work is harder than it used to be, will you see a problem then?
Its not just this industry being outsourced. I grew up in Michigan! Its turning into a ghost state due to loss of jobs to outsourcing. That's an example of an entire state being affected, and its only one of many in the rust belt. But I guess you don't know anybody there, so you'd rather sympathize with someone halfway across the world. It is not ok to undevelop our country in order to develop others. Maybe when our homeless shelters overflow and our streets are full of beggars, and every undeveloped company has cable TV and McDonalds on every corner, we'll quit being in denial at what we are allowing to happen under our very noses. But by then it'll be too late for us to reverse this trend of trying to raise the rest of the world's standards at the expense of our own.
It's a free country. My son is currently fighing to
keep it that way.
At least Ireland is a country we could consider moving to.

Sorry, but not according to one of the largest financial insitutions in this country.
They totally disagree with what you say. I have talked to them in depth
I wish the majority of sheeple in this country would wake up and
see the reality, but they won't until it's too late.
Which nationals do not send work out of the country?
Which nationals do not send work out of the country? I need to find another job.
TIA.
The wealthy elite are running this country.
And they would prefer that your money be in THEIR pocket. They will share as much as they have to and no more.
Gorgeous horse country right outside of Philly!
Google areas near New Bolton Medical Center in Pennsy. If country is up your alley, there are lots of great towns. If you like cities, then Philly is for you! Go EAGLES!!
Doesn't matter what their country of origin is, - sm
if they are now Americans and working in the U.S. If that is the case, they ARE American transcribers! But even though our compnies that hire them are paying U.S. taxes (though probably less than they should, becuse of loopholes), are offshore employees paying U.S. Social Security and other taxes out of their wages? NO. So it undermines our economy in that way, as well.
Keystrokes is and will not send work out of the country. sm
The owners feel strongly about that.
No I didnt see that, is there anything this country values anymore SM
and is willing to pay other than tech stuff? I know my son went to college for graphic design and he doesnt make much.
People are turned down for surgery in this country
If you have other illnesses, possibility of getting turned down exists. Say kidney transplant. You have to be in basically good shape except for the kidney problem or else you might not be put on the waiting list.
Reading about how other country handled this, hmmmm
just on Entertainment Tonight they were telling about some pretty raunchy things, for example saying body found in net hose and other items that maybe should be left alone. It is not just other country giving out information, better look at our country also. Some of the weekly tabloids get things like this and run with it.
offshore (out of country) to India ... not outsource.
nm
Sorry, but I used to work at one of the largest financial institutions in this country.
Thank you very much. Unless you have proof in your hand that the deposit was supposed to go in on a certain date, DO NOT go writing checks and spending money without that proof because stuff happens.
Unfortunately, the country seems headed toward rich, or poor, period.
sort of like, anyone not rich has to conform to the mentality that ...we are only working for the good of everyone else.
MT is not the only profession. it seems to be eroding through our entire society like wild fire. you best not have a good opinion of your self or worth, because you will be whipped back into believing you are only lucky to have a job.
heartless. whoever is in charge of this country or in the trend is heartless. any companies that were good, and there were a few, are claiming they now need to compete with lower wages and better technology, all of which we have to suck up, not the owners.
mostly I hear women with that mentality, that martyr-type attitude. we shoud just work like dogs, expect nothing but our sweat-shop pay, keep our mouths shut, and just be glad for any scraps a company wants to throw at you.
these companies love these women...and if it was not so sad, it would almost be funny to watch some of these women now, who are not even making what they made five years ago but are losing work, benefits, and pay. maybe they are happy because, hey, after all, we probably do not even deserve that, right?
None of the ones on the Job Seekers board send work outside the country. They
would not be allowed to advertise if they did.
Ditto that. If my info. leaves the country, I leave the doc. - nm
.
but it is a free country. People ask questions all the time that
are best answered by a representative of the company in question.
It depends on what part of the country you live; here in the Northeast sm
it is $18-$23 per hour.
I love the part where he says we have inadequate staffing in this country!
That makes me so mad - how many of us are sitting here waiting on work every day and he says we have inadequate staffing? That is BU!!$HIT!
Country clubs (SF Bay Area) are great but their dues are pricey
You may want to experience life outside of Northern California, in other states of the United States, and find out that you were brainwashed and deluding yourself into living in, as one of the TV news station there actually used to say The greatest place on earth. Everyone I know who has left has a higher standard of living. In particular, one who can't come to terms with leaving is only working part-time because she can't find full-time work. And let's not forget the people in Silicon Valley who work full time but still live in their cars.
EXACTLY! HIPAA protects the privacy of your health information IN THIS COUNTRY!
Once your protected health information leaves this country, your privacy is no longer protected. So while you may not trust your neighbor to know your medical history, you can trust that if they breech your privacy, you have legal recourse and you can have their jobs! In India, if someone holds your health records hostage and threaten to publish them on the internet because they didn't get their 2 cpl, you are basically screwed!
Sheeple!!! LOL - I agree. I wonder if Germany outsources it citizens work out of the country.

"We" have become a country of frightened 'SWEATSHOPPERS' eager to accept crumbs
And I believe that the worm is beginning to turn. Perhaps your husband's company should be confronted en masse regarding layoffs.
Don't go softly into that good night. Ask questions, do your research. We stil have rights, but a good deal of you are scared into corners, frightened to proclaim those rights.
Get out of the corners, come out from under the desks. It's time to take our pride back.
What I don't understand is this-
But I still don't understand
They never have anything positive to say, except about themselves. I guess we don't need to ask anymore questions after we come to that conclusion.
So, let me understand (sm)
That this is your first career/job out of high school and you are getting 8.5 cpl for clinics and they are mentoring you? Did you hire in at that? How long have you been there to be offered QA with such little background in MT? (no offense) I have 10 years experience and they are talking 8 cpl to me. Hmmm.....
I think we can all understand
The typo police don't have to come out every time. Get a life. We all work with words all day long and when you get on here, you might be a little tired. Give 'em a break.
I don't understand it, either. sm
It'd be great if MTs came here and supported each other. This is NOT a great field to be in, IMO. We should be banding together as sisters (and brothers) in the same boat.
I wish the monitors would institute a zero-tolerance policy toward people who deliberately harass someone here like this person or people were doing to Metrochick.
Don't understand
I couldn't afford to stay in business if I paid people for NOT working. I can understand if the computer is down or if there is a problem, but just because there is no work, a company would go broke. Can I bill the doctors if they do not dictate a day? How can I pay you if I cannot bill a customer for work? This work has always been up and down -- feast or famine my father used to say. But through the years -- now over 20 -- I have learned to save for the lean times. Like I said if the problem was on my end due to machinery malfunction but if docs don't send in the dication how can I pay you for something I cannot bill out to them?
I Understand more now
I understand more now of what you are saying. I agree with you more than when I first read your post. It is so hard to juggle in this job market. There are so many pieces that fit into the cpl you charge the client, the transcriptionist, supplies, QA time, software, etc. that is it very hard for an owner to make much and when an account is down for the day to pay those people that should be on it while it generates no income is double hard. It is really hard to strike that balance of being staffed correctly for both the busy and slow times of the year. A lot of it is out of my control. You are probably with a larger company that can afford to pay you for 8 hours of work and generating income from only one. They count that into their overhead. I have only 5 accounts of 2-3 docs, have 2 part-times and am the QA, owner, Transcriptionist also. But on those accounts that my gals type, I make only 25 to 30% max on what they type which a lot of times generates out to only $7 to $9 an hour for doing pick-up, pick-up, delivery, printing, etc. That is why in 2006 I am going to probably cut back to doing only what will keep me with a decent income to pay my bills and I do not have to worry about having enough work for the gals, doing the running, etc. My guilt is high when the docs are on vacation or it is a slow time and the gals have no work but I cannot cut myself short either. Enough rambling on, - I do understand more and I think that if your company is not paying you for the time, they know they have overstaffed themselves to cover those times when the need is heavy and thus I would probably look for another company that staffs more evenly. Sorry I rambled on so much.
The way I understand it . . .
they are instituting what they're calling a pilot program to sort of test the waters of offshoring work by starting to send a small percentage of work overseas in order to be competetive with their contract fees. No, I don't think they're doing it yet, but it is obviously going to happen at least to a small extent in the near future. We have to accept this as the trend of the future because it's happening everywhere, like it or not.
What does this mean for MTs? I don't understand.
