it is not a medical error, so why are they wasting their time on such trivial things. I call it trivial, because in my opinion, it is.
QA is for editing and correcting gross medical errors and errors that truly change the meaning and context of the document. Some QA folks are ridiculous and feel the need to be important.
I have always ignored those types of corrections. Now, if I made a big boo-boo, I would pay attention to the feedback.

I agree...change can be hard but it doesn't hurt to try...
especially if you are unhappy at your current company...and if you just hate being an MT, time to find a new line of work...Happy New Year everyone!!!
I believe you took what the MT said out of context sm
the MT was being sarcastic. So there was no theory to it wonder why you work for MQ . comprehension issues
Question is out of context
Where you live really matters. An MT in NYC or California needs/makes way more than an MT in Arkansas or Alabama, for example.
You take my words out of context, don’t you?
I was trying to explain how businesses work. I sucked it up, said nothing about her doing this and yes, you have to develop a hard shell, if you don’t say like the OP, then you wind up without a job in hard times with a family to support and possibly not getting unemployment because she quit. That is business and these are not new attitudes. My mother died in 1990 and like I said, I had to find my own replacement at that time IF I wanted probably to keep my job. I had a family to support and could probably had just left, walked off the job and then what? Poverty city. No one owes us anything. We are not queens out in this world. We are the workers and companies could for the most part care less about us as a person and our families. If you are close to retirement, you should have learned this by now.
Within the context of this forum firestorm
Especially since the posts have been running pretty much 98 to 2 in favor of her viewpoint. You must have been following the thread with blinders on to have missed the tenor of the posts she was responding to. It's that garbage in/garbage out phenomenon that is pretty much status quo on anonymous forums such as this.
BTW, without spending another 45 minutes or so reading through all the muck, it is next to impossible to determine which question you are referring to that you think she is answering since she is the one who started this current thread. Pardon me for pointing out that relegating someone to the bottom ofthe heap of humanity does not exactly qualify as civil discourse and can easily be construed as talking down. Never say never.
Market forces that exert downward trends in cpl rates (subcontractors) have a tendency to make MTs scream and complain regardless of how long they have been transcribing, and with good reason. We already have taken a 20% hit since 2005. There is not a whole lot of wiggle room left at the bottom of that barrel. If we go any lower, we won't even be making the same cpl rate that they get in India.
You made some good points in the remainder of your post, most of which I agree with. Everything you said is more than familiar to me as I too have been transcribing since 1974. Though most of what you said is right on (need to be broad based, MTing can't be learned in school, in-house vs working at home and the whole 9 yards), unfortunately it is highly unlikely that any of those good ideas will ever come to pass. Those days are long gone.
Subcontractors such as TTD would have ICs (new or seasoned) making LESS than FT employees. Because of their lack of benefits, wasn't it just a few years back that ICs made MORE than FT status? That train is going in the wrong direction.
BTW, those prima donnas and all that screaming and complaining? That IS the new reality of MT. That's why I do not see how x has said anything here that is more objectionable than, say, MT for example.
Sorry, part of post is out of context :(
Not crazy about this platform.
Talk about taking everything out of context good lord and you're calling yourself a prof???

meaning
It is Latin and means "without delay", or "immediately."
meaning??
??? not clear on that.
Different take on the meaning of this
If your testing did not qualify you did it ever occur to you that you did too well? Perhaps you did ace the test as you believe (I do not doubt your feelings at all), but that would mean they would have to give you top dollar, and they don't want to hire someone like that right now, or ever. Don't know this company, but I have been through this. But I go one step further. I always am flexible with my cpl rate in the cover letter, and so when I ace a test like you did they do get back to me. But, I have been offered 6.5 to 7 c/line, no kidding. Then, I say no. What do they think flexible means? Stupid! Yes. They think I am stupid so offer me a job. They know you are not stupid because you aced the test, so they say you are not qualified for their low pay scale. That is just IMHO. Sorry to take the opposite position from the other poster who says you are not as good as you think. Since this person does not know you or your skills, I think that comment may be way off base. So, don't let these things ruin your day. Count it as a blessing and find a decent place who will appreciate you. IMHO. Good luck!
Meaning and substance???
If you are an editor, you will soon be out of work. What exactly do you mean when you say 'meaning' and 'substance'?
Meaning, you are not getting 1000....
which I thought was the requirement. I have a friend who tried them out and went days without work.
Meaning you don't get paid for it
:(
Ah, but you miss my meaning.
If she does not know that a lot is two separate words, I can only imagine the other kinds of errors that she makes. That is so very basic. I am not jealous of someone who does not know that a lot is two separate words. I am not QA and I don't work for TT and I am not policing anything. I am just really, really tired of the seeing ALOT and other inexcusable errors from people as they are bragging about their awesome quality-oriented companies that hired them. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is tired of it.
Not meaning to argue...
but they DID lie. They initially told me that typing was not required. Just as they will review what I type, they could allow me to QA and review what I have QA'd. Very simple.
Whatever their reasons are for requiring this - they should be honest and tell the folks to whom they make an offer that typing is required.

Thank You all and I wasn't meaning ESL accent...
I was meaning ESL who can't speak English, but make up their own form of Americanese language (broken up/half-English)i.e. physical thrappy for physical therapy and palawong is echocardiogram, therefore the whole report is a big fat blank because I still couldn't figure out how palawong sounded echocardiogram. Thank MT@diskriter, I will give Diskriter a try and I hope to get 2 accounts and stay on those 2 accounts besides rotating accounts 4 or 5 times a week. The downtime sounds like some good insurance. Last job work 2 hours and had no work so I would sit and baby-sit the computer catching job here and there for about 19 hours for 600 lines due to no work and no pay. Thanks again all.
" FOR NOW "... 2 small words with a very big meaning. nm
.
If the error changes meaning of the report
Because that's dangerous. It should be something that almost never happens though.
Meaning I sure hope the above poster
isn't a manager at Ax. That is what I meant. Obviously they must work there because they are aware of e mails.
Well, I really wasn't meaning to imply that something ... SM
was wrong with the line counts. Just for some reason, I have a very difficult time making my lines. Yes, what I am typing for the day definitely has something to do with it. I feel that the fact that I get reports from 2 different accounts mixed in with each other also is not conducive to speed. But I really brought this up, just kind of thinking out loud, that I wonder if the fact that it is a good company outweighs the fact that I am not making any money! That's what I'm trying to resolve in my own mind.
Production incentive meaning overtime
Then it would be legal.
meaning that some accounts have assigned doctors...
nm
She is meaning you will see lazy MTs while doing QA that no longer care
nm
and do you mean "THEY" meaning DeVenture or in general?
If in general, that's nothing new. If you mean DeVenture, then I'm glad I got turned down.
SC meaning SE (statutory employee) and or IC contractor.
Still looking for help on employee positions with no VR which are good. Thanks.
So, Yes, they were once OmniMed, meaning the same people. Thought so! BAD company! x
x
No we won't. I said slow, meaning slower than usual, should have clarified.
.
You're right! Hahaha My typo totally messed up the meaning!
Yes, MQ is aware of my other position. I was very up front with them when I took their offer. Spheris probably would not be happy about my situation, I agree.
My other comments were made because no matter what I post, someone has got to be interested in what I'm doing or not doing, whether they think it is right or not, etc.
My whole post on this thread was an answer about great companies. I posted. Then, if you'll go back and look at this entire thread, I am the one getting all the virtual "you can't do that" complainers on my back.
It's not anyone else's business. One of the OPs started it I suppose with the trying to tell me I can't post on this forum because I work for Spheris and I can't use their computer. Then others chime in. Then others start in with what they think I can and cannot do.
It's none of anyone's business. I wasn't addressing any of those subjects whatsoever.
I seem to be prime fuel for the flaming activities, regardless of the subject of my posts. Even if I respond to others, 9 times out of 10 I get flamed and for other subject matter most of those times.
Hahaha, you are right in your answers to some of the other posters. You and I are having an adult conversation and understanding each other well, even if we disagree. THAT is how it should be.
As I answered you somewhere in this same thread, I understand what you were bringing to light for others who may not realize about working for more than 1 company. It is a gamble. I agree wholeheartedly.
It isn't just the competition between Spheris and MQ though. That expectation is with other companies as well, maybe not all, but most. And most, if you read the employee handbook imply that they do not want their employees on forums like this.
One of the OPs stated that I signed a contract with Spheris forbidding me to be on this forum. No ma'am. That simply isn't true. I went back and looked at everything I've signed. I've signed no such contract. There may be an implied policy but I have not signed any such contract.
I personally think that each company has really good aspects. I can also see where each could improve. That will be with any company though. As long as I am well paid and have flexibility and opportunity, I'm a happy clam.
Nothing will change unless we make it change..SM
As long as we accept the exploitation that this MT profession has reduced us to, it will keep going on. The top of this is the outsourcing.... well, get your legislators involved....better yet, the MEDIA. How many patients know their private medical information is being outsourced to halfway around the world? The squeeky wheel gets the grease. Do the patients know that their info won't be sold by some unscrupulous MT (halfway around the globe) to insurance companies, etc., making all this Medical records privacy a joke. It's not just our T-shirts being made in other countries; it's our most personal, private medical information, of which the public is not being made aware of. Not to speak of undercutting out profession to the bare bone. Granted, most US MTs are willing to work below market wage just to have a job, especially in economically-deprived areas, where outside jobs are scarce, and kids need to be fed and mortgages need to be paid. MTSOs know this. I'll bet they'll be the first to lobby against any action against outsourcing. (Wouldn't you be...if you got people to work for pennies while you're raking in the big $$$'s ? Still, notwithstanding the outsourcing problem, we're still going along with all the BS...working for pennies, whatever the client wants, he gets... ever notice how all of the MTSO flak seems to be re. unpaid work...mostly, demographic issues we're not even paid for... bec. It has to be done.. Part of the job... The client put the wrong info but we have to correct it...all unpaid work. Just give me a job with nothing but straight transcription, w/o the unpaid/demo. flak..I'll take it even at the present, absurd pennies-per-line state of the profession.
Doesn't apply if your OSI account doesn't use Ichart.
It is the Ichart only for OSi where you are cheated.
TT doesn't pay for spaces or ExText doesn't
nm
That doesn't fly - KS doesn't offshore
nm
He doesn't trust VR, or doesn't trust his MT to train it correctly?
Or perhaps his MT(s) has/have been filling his head with horror stories about VR and how it is a lawsuit waiting to happen?
Personally, I don't see any reason an M.D. would not trust a VR program, unless he's seen the products of a report edited by a less than competent MT who didn't do their editing job appropriately.
MQ BIG CHANGE?
I just love these posters..gonna be a big change..well, what? Dont post something like that and not explain. It only causes anxiety and speculation in an already scarey field, with outsourcing, etc. Big change, well, come on now..what is gonna be the big change and where did you get your information from?
Well, then maybe that should change.
Maybe they, too, should be paid based on what they produce, with a little bonus if the person stays a year.
Sometimes you just get in a rut and need a change. Sometimes you just
get burn-out in general and think it is the company/account. I've left a position before because I thought the grass was greener, but it wasn't. Had to learn new platform, new software program, new dictators with various new accents to figure out, new way to count lines, etc. Even if the pay was a bit better I still figured I lost money and the grass wasn't greener. No company is perfect, but there are some very good companies out there, but there can still be intermittent issues with any company. Sometimes talking with management might resolve issues, sometimes taking a break will refresh you and make you see things in a different light. List pros/cons of present account and compare that what a different company has to offer. You may realize you are better off where you are and if not you can feel comfortable that you're making a change that really will be better for you. If you do decide to leave current account just don't burn any bridges so you leave with the possibility of being able to return if new account/company doesn't work out.
No. Currently, you can use your own. That may change

I think so...I am not one for change tho....but there
To change
the subject somewhat. Gastric bypass and lap banding scare me to death! I personally know of five people who underwent the procedures, and all had complications, one being death. They all had excellent surgeons, one being my surgeon. Everyone responds differently I know, and that is the problem. It is too much of a gamble for me.

Are we all in the same boat? I work for the largest national in the country and am hoping to hear about another position with another company tomorrow or Wednesday. Many of us have been MTs for years and make less now than then we started. We get thrown into the national cesspool and may get 20 different states in 20 different reports. Impossible to make a good line count this way. I'm slow to change and always fearful, but I'm really at the end of my rope. Anyone want to add to this conversation, please feel free. Happy New Year everyone! May 2008 bring us more MONEY and more CONTENTMENT!!
have to change dsl
well just talked to Vonage and everything was fine until they tried to transfer my line. Said I have to discontinue DSL through ATT for ATT to allow it, then vonage can transfer it...
So I will change to time warner for cable and then get the adapter from vonage. Yes it is a lot cheaper, but have to work out all the transfers.
I know... but I need a change... SM
It was a great benefit for me being an IC because I would work and get big paychecks and being a single mom, I would get the child credits and the earned income tax credits, and I would actually get money back, quite a bit.
But now that that is not going to happen anymore, I want some PTO and all those nice benefits!!! Im just ready for a change...
Which companies actually hire employees and offer PTO, etc.?
:-)
Change in pay
Contact the Wage and Hour Department of the Federal Labor Commission. This is illegal.
Looking for change
Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for. I might also add that Landmark is a good, honest company that does not offshore.
Do you know by any change the
system you will be using? Some are apparently much better than others.
I wonder if that will change with the new sm
employee handbook? I briefly read it this morning and it seems that it boils down to **you owe us this, this and that and we don't owe you anything**.
That will all change.
I've been in the business 20 years too. I worked for Transcend for 4 years and my honeymoon period with them lasted about 7 months. Once the honeymoon was over, it was one of the worst job experiences I have ever had.
What would you like me to change it to? (nm)
I don't like change that much. I started posting here when I was a newer TT'r, so why change?
that says a lot. You would change sm
your mind if you were the sole bread winner as a big majority of MTs are. You wouldn't care about weekends at that point. You do what you have to do to support your family.
You can say what you want, but you have some off as self-righteous and definitely a slap in the face to all of us hard-working full-time MTs
