some other country besides here, right and there are lots of people who have money who go out of the country to have surgery because the price elsewhere is so much lower than here. I have had loads of elective (plastic surgery) done and if I could afford the weeks to spend to recuperate there, I would have gone somewhere except here in order to get the work done, much less costly.

I'm not sure what particular fat-cats you're speaking of, but my husband worked for HCA, for those of use who remember a great company, for nearly 20 years. He was over medical records dept and highly-qualified transcriptionists were a top priority with him. He made sure they were paid top dollar for their jobs. He knew what they had to sit and do and how monotonous it could be but how very important all the same. He knew that because I did the same for my job and he could see what went into it and the stress involved. In this case, the docs had all the say in the world in what they wanted and how they wanted it. Administration kissed up to them on a regular basis and still does within the hospital setting. My husband nor his CEO meted out who would or would not get healthcare...just the opposite, the HCA hospital was known as the ONLY hospital that accepted indigent patients while the other hospitals thought themselves too good for such and didn't want to be left with no payment. (That is against the law and if you know of a hospital doing that to a patient in need, you need to report them).
As far as docs not being able to choose procedures or drugs, that is solely due to insurance companies, not hospitals, at least not private hospital companies. Private companies can have NO say over what procedure is ordered by a physician or drugs ordered. The insurance companies, unfortunately, have all the power in that regards and THEY alone decide who will and will not get care, who will get what drug, and who will or will not get procedures ordered. The hospitals have their hands tied in this regard as well. Now, nonprofit hospitals on the other hand, 2 in my city, screw people over all the time. They have sorry ERs and ER docs for the most part and could care less what the patients think or say until a law suit is slapped on them. My husband would never manage a nonprofit hospital for just that reason and he got plenty of offers. They are not structured.....are ran by a board of individuals who are hotshots in the community and wouldn't know a drug name from a procedure name, and just draw a check. Nonprofit hospitals stink. They pay no taxes in their town/city and their CEOs make extraordinary income. You really need to know your homework before you blame Health Management Corporations for your woes.
If private hospital corporations did not exist, many would have nowhere to go for healthcare. And like one of my friends said, You sure would be glad that ER was still open if you needed to go to it. Ain't that the truth!!
Those trying to balance a budget of nonpaying patients with what little insurance companies want to give, are constantly in a juggling act keeping things afloat, all the while NOT letting FT employees go and NOT losing their most valuable employees. For those who knew Dr. Frisk (Sr), his top priority with HCA was the patient and he detested HMOs and the like. Now, there are those higher up in his company that did very well, they never were home, on the road all the time, never saw their families, paid a price for their company. Try doing a budget to the tune of millions a year ahead of time, reading a crystal ball on how many funds will come in from insurance companies, Medicare/Medicaid, and see how much fun you have, all in the name of keeping your doors open.
You need to be complaining to the insurance industry for those problems.
Too bad we don't have a fat-cat salary....we'd be living large wouldn't we?

But, I am doing this through my husband's insurance. $100.00 copay is the cost to me. I wish you the best of luck because once you find an insurance that covers it, be sure to jump through all of their qualifying hoops or all will be lost.
I had abdominal surgery as well.
I was told there might be a problem, but only had problems with my umbilical stump which had to be closed because of closure and skin issues. Got infected. I had my legs done years ago and they are the bane of my existence as the technical aspects of the surgery have changed so much over the years. Nurses saved me from lousy physicians by taking me aside and telling me to not use so and so!! Thank God for networking. All in all am very happy I did all of it. I am sure I would be dead now had I not.
A local surgery center
I was referred to them through someone else. They have had trouble keeping a transcriptionist. Now I know why.
If it's the one that advertised here in Dec. w/the surgery acct., she's not hiring right now.

I do hospital work, do heart surgery, etc.
but don’t do the caths and glad of it. They have others specifically for that. I do all other reports including ops, discharges, consults and the histories and such.
People are turned down for surgery in this country
If you have other illnesses, possibility of getting turned down exists. Say kidney transplant. You have to be in basically good shape except for the kidney problem or else you might not be put on the waiting list.
