I stand corrected. That's good to know. I have found them to be fair also.

    I see. I stand corrected.

    Ahh, I stand corrected. nm

    I stand corrected

No, I did not know many of the things you say here.  The only pharmacy techs I know are people with very little training, not like anything you mention, and that does frighten me I must admit.

I do know that many of the newbies seem to have a poor work ethic and don't seem to have had very much training.  I see that where I work.  And I do know someone who had been in a mentoring program offered by a national and had a horrible experience and barely kept herself alive on what she made.

I did not know the other things you mentioned.  I am glad you filled me in on these things.  I want to learn all I can about our situation.  I welcome feedback and I sure wish the things you mentioned were discussed here.  I'd be grateful if you could advise me where to turn to find out such things and keep track of what is really going on, because I apparently am not getting the whole story.  I'd also be interested in your ideas for what to do as you seem to know what you're talking about.

I apologize if I offended you or anyone else.

oh - I stand corrected. So who's LK?

    I stand corrected.....sm
The M-F schedule was not an option when I hired, but that may have just been with the account I hired for.
    Stand corrected
yes, I meant between sentences, not words.  See what working all hours of the day does to you?
    Then I stand corrected.
    Thanks for the clarification.
    Execuscribe - I stand corrected

Thank you for pointing out actual fraud amount.  I stand corrected. Article states $379,968.  Kodak alleged near $500k.   It was $1.36 million and $632,277 that was ordered to be paid by Linda and husband for damages stemming from the convicted fraud.

And again, you are correct in that it was not Execuscribe by that name in these particular convictions, but former company name of Emtex - whose assets were then acquired by Execuscribe at a deflated value, and then quickly transferred those Execuscribe stocks to her sons -- which generated a new action, and was declared null and void by the court in an an attempt to "hinger, delay or defraud" her creditors.    So, yes, Execuscribe was named in this court action.

Maybe I'm off by a few years -- but I remember this business being Emtex, Executive Secretarial, and now Execuscribe.  That's SEVERAL names.  If I'm wrong on that - sorry.  But my point is, one GOOD name should carry you through your whole professional life, don't you think?

I stand corrected and apologize to OSi
And, love the red coffee cup and candy.
    You're right, I stand corrected.
I did not accept the offer as I had much more pride and hope for the profession I have chosen.

Also, my reply was not a company bash session and it was entirely professional. I point that out as my professional pride is the reason I declined the offer from Shapin, which was made by a woman who seemed proud of low quality and the insult they are making to our profession.

Now, I can almost promise that no one will post a professional response that would agree with you. Any real professional would never accept the positions they hire for, unless they have drastically changed. And if they HAVE drastically changed, I definitely take back all I say and hope for the best for them and their employees.

I stand corrected. It is HIPAA

I stand corrected. Guess all accounts are not
created equal and sounds like you have a good one.
You're right - I stand corrected. So much for *rules* NM

Sure I got the email, I stand corrected. Three titled employees are listed & there is one more
that simply has not been announced yet. I will say again, could be nothing at all, could just be a change of guard. Didn't say whatever was going on was good or bad, but wondered what is going on. I will be the first to say change is often a very, very good thing and I am hoping for good!
companies that I have found that are fair and flexible
    QT and FutureNet
Good for you! I just wish more MTs would stand
    .
QA is good, they are fair - DSG not the only one with low volumes
Some days I think the industry itself is in a death spiral... there certainly has been a yo-yo effect for a while now on volume.

My suggestion is that people start looking in other directions at least for back up/part time income. I could be wrong but I just don't see a reversal happening in this industry.

Not only is VR working against us, it will only improve with time - and possibly to an extent that will even reduce VR positions. Likely more software is in development that will further erode job opportunities and/or drive down wages.

Outsourcing is playing a huge role as well.

Not to create or add to anyone's panic, but read the writing on the wall before it's too late - diversify your skills and don't put all your eggs in the transcription basket, cuz me thinks there's an egg-sized hole in the bottom. insert wry smiley face here.
    Transolutions..a fair and good company..sm
I no longer work for this company as I did not like the platform (MedType)...however, if you want an honest and fair company and can deal with the platform, these people are great. I just got a birthday card from them 3 weeks after quitting. That is going far beyond the expected in my opinion. The people on their staff are wonderful to work with and if I could handle DOS-based platforms, I might consider going back to them...just not my cup of tea.
I don't think that's true or fair. Most of the posts about KS are good. sm
I work there, have worked there a while and am very happy and know many, many others who have been there a while and are very happy too. They have improved rather than fallen apart as many companies seem to do. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a fair, caring, well-paying, high line count, good benefits providing company. I am in acute care but know many others in radiology and ortho and clinic. Yes, we compare notes with each other (many came from Edix and MRC) and everyone is happy. They keep getting new accounts and the new accounts are getting bigger and bigger.

I agree that OT pay (or lack of) was a problem but when they said no more OT work, many complained to the point that they said to work the production you want.

It is disheartening to sit back and read posts that are so negative when I know the opposite to be true. It can chase people away from working for a wonderful company. I think we see more posts because there are more employees and because they are always hiring due to new accounts. I also know that every manager, including the owner, that I have ever talked to, really cares and really wants to continue to make Keystrokes better and better. I think they are doing a great job.

As for running out of work, I know that there are ups and downs in transcription and they try to be fair during those times, spreading the work around. I also know that sometimes when a new account starts, the volume will be go up and down because they are working on the perfect staffing mix.

If you are having a problem, not getting enough work, etc. you really should talk to them. They will bend over backwards to make it work for you.
Good sound quality, fair line counting, pay always on time.

Don't know how you found good posts about NJ
    x
Good point! What I found when I sm
was looking for a job was exactly as you say. They list every specialty under the sun and want to know how many years you have done that particular type of MT.

If you have acute care experience for many years (the big 4 and ERs) you really don't have difficulty landing a job. It is very easy for experienced MTs to land a job and right now I don't see age as having a bearing on it at all!
Why don't you call them and ask? I have found them to be good at answering
those types of questions. Better to get it from the horses mouth, I think.
I have a unique history with DSG and found them to be very good!!!

I had a pretty good experience with them.  I would consider my situation unique because I had left a couple of times and had asked to come back and they allowed me to do this.  I was having a hard time juggling between two jobs and actually left them twice and was given the opportunity to come back.  They were very friendly and professional about it as well.  They were very helpful with questions and samples, etc.  The scheduled was great, being able to work anytime of the day you wanted.  The sound quality was not that great though and there were some accounts with lots of ESL doctors, which I am just not good at.  Other than that I am sure I would have stayed with them.

They always paid on time and were always very kind.  They answered my emails and questions in a timely fashion and the pay was pretty good.

Sorry you had a bad time with them. Hope you found a good fit elsewhere. nm

I've had a lot of bad ones...finally found one that's pretty good sm
It is a struggle though!! I have worked for several that stunk up the place!! LOL Been cheated on line counts, etc. My best advice is to see if there are any companies near you, smaller, home-based MTSOs who have fewer employees. A way where you can actually get to know your employer. I found one not far from my house who advertised on Craigslist and she has been pretty good to work with.
I quit and found greener pastures! Good luck to you. nm

I think I would rather be corrected by the
dictator that some of the nit-picking QA people who check every a/and/the, every comma, etc; especially love those QA people who believe their way is the only way and it is wrong if they say it is. These are the kind of companies that I want to stay completely away from. It's sad though because some of the companies are probably very good to work for otherwise.
What are you being corrected on?? If it
is account specifics, bone up on them. If it is your style of transcription, i.e., they are following BOS and you aren't, or the other way around. If it is simple mistakes, then take the time to proof your work.
    Corrected mistakes - sm
I agree with you about the stupid mistakes that are corrected by the dictator. I feel terrible when the doctor spells out BOWEL or other simple words. The MTs who type like that are a disgrace to the profession. You HAVE to pay attention to every word, know the difference between ileum and ilium, in these diagnostic imaging reports. I don't blame the radiologist for being upset - and the MT deserved being yelled at for it. There is NO excuse. I'm ashamed everytime I have a dictator spell out something so simple, but I do appreciate the occasional spelling of an obscure illness, etc., although I don't trust their spelling, I always check it myself, but their spelling is a help to looking it up. Why throw stones about the offshore MTs when there are MTs here just as bad, or worse? No wonder accounts are constantly changing over to other companies.
Your'e right, the errors have been corrected.
It was written in a fit of passion after just learning that I lost my job, excuse me. I hope you are never put in this position and don't ever get emotional about losing your job. I am sure you can walk on water also.
i corrected myself. PAY ATTENTION LOL

I would rather be corrected than look too stupid. sm
Maybe that poster or emailer or whatever was trying to help the poster not look bad?

    I am playing devil's advocate I guess.

Doctors would be okay if you corrected your sentence LOL

    TransTech - corrected post

I was offered a position with Transtech today. The recruiter gave me a lot of info, but I completely drew a blank regarding any questions I had. I work for MQ now, and am looking to leave because I believe it is only going to get worse, and I can't take any more cuts in pay. So here goes:

    1. Do they do ASR, and if so, what is their percentage of line rate (i.e., Medquist currently pays 70%).

    2. Do they pay any shift differential?

    3. Do they allow split shifts or 10 hour shifts for 4 days if 1 is a weekend day?

    4. As far as line rate, they offered me 1.25 cents less a line than I am currently making, but their incentive program, from what I understood, seems pretty decent.

    5. Are they easy to work with, QA, supervisors, etc.

Any and all information anyone can provide would be appreciated. This is a big decision I need to make by Monday, and am a little nervous, but think I would like to take the leap!

Already corrected this above with the "Oops" post.

I corrected it immediately in my lower post....nm
    nm
Well I just re-sent my resume to the corrected email address he gave.
I just got it back saying it is undeliverable. Makes me wonder what type of company this is if they can't get their email straight.
At least you stand up for yourself!

I am the HR person, QA, and trainer for a small company.  We've had the same employees for more than 5 years, some as long as 10.  Recently we had to hire a few new people because of growth.

People talk about wanting to be respected and wanting to keep the work here.  I agree this needs to be done but in order to do that we have to have qualified people.  IF somebody passes our simple test, which is transcribing real files, and we hire them, we tell them their line requirement.  We don't even require set hours.  We get people who won't do 200 lines per day, much less what is required.  We get people who say they have 10 years of experience, yet require total read throughs, which cost us money.  The incredibly bad ones we have to let go, which is incredibly hard for me to do, then come here and post how horrible the employer is.  They don't mention the fact that 1) they still have our equipment even though they have their last check, 2) they failed to do their required lines per hour, 3) half the time they just didn't work at all PERIOD.  Or I invest a great deal of time in training them and they quit with reasons like I didn't realize it would take four hours to work part time and get my lines, I didn't know working at home was like having a REAL job.

I don't know anything about your company at all, but I do know the frustration at being hammered on these forums without the real stories being told, so I think it's great that somebody actually takes up for their company.  We do not outsource, but I have edited for companies who do, and the work is there ON TIME, even if it has to have minimal editing.  If someone is sick, there's somebody to back them up.  No whining, no emails from people who say that for the 10th time this month there was a wreck and their power is off, the dog is sick, I fell and hurt my back again, my dad is going to be ill in December so I'll need time off, my car broke down and I had to walk 5 miles home so that's why I am 8 hours late getting on, I was out all night partying and I have too much of a headache now to work.  It's a real shame for the people who actually do work their tails off.

What does TTS stand for? nm

    nm

    Take a stand.

Lest we get redirected to the politics board, let me make a few general observations.  I would not look to the companies for resolution.  They are only one player among many whose greed holds our country in their clutch...a tight, squeezing grip that impoverishes the poor, enriches the wealthy and make economic refugees of the ever-shrinking middle class.  Look beyond the corruption of the politicians and whatever despair, frustration and hopeless you may feel.  For a long and single moment, stare far back into the eyes or our history and ask these questions over and over and over again:

Why are we paid wages like we're a third world country. It'd be nice just to meet the bills, but between low wages and high costs of having insurance, which we have to have because our antidepressant medications are so flipping high, who can survive doing this anymore?

They are your questions.  They are mine too. Why, indeed.   Go and find your answers.  Seek educated and balanced debates pros and cons, right and left. Here's a hint on how to start.  You'll have to switch to something besides Fox and CNN to find this.   Listen to the candidates.  Follow the rhetoric and their platforms.  Watch closely and be a tough critic.  Put yourself around others who share these perspectives.  Listen and contribute, teach and learn from one and the other.  Identify your agenda and then go out and promote and support it.

Do this between now and this time next year.  Then show up at the polls.  You will know what to do.  If you don't get what you want from the leadership and the legislators, do not disappear into the corner of the country.  Get out there and go for it, over and over.  This is not wasted effort.  If you were a child of the 60s or 70s, you would believe this.  In my life, sweeping, long-reaching and lasting reform has come and gone.  Minorities and women still reap the benefits of those efforts from so long ago.   The time is ripe for history to repeat itself.

PS:  If this were 1970, you and I would be organizing (watch out, here comes that dirty word) LABOR UNIONS.

    Could not stand it ..
First post I read was how nobody needs the BOS. Then I read this .. some days you just have to wonder how in the world people make a living if they really feel there need be no rules or standards. Forget India or Manila or Pakistan and for God sake, remember patient safety. There is a reason for standards and every time I come here I see someone shooting themselves in the foot with their incredibly illogical logic. Our jobs are about patient safety .. first, foremost and always.
    What does LTS stand for?

    Can't stand it.
I hate the way it searches patients, I hate the autotext format...basically can't stand it. I only live with it because I play it in express scribe and type it in word and then copy it over.
