It just makes me sad...
I love Christmas (at least what it's SUPPOSED to be like)and you're right about the commercialism ruining it. I try to avoid the mobs if I can. We've had 2 people in this area held up at gunpoint for X-box systems! Unreal! It's fun getting together and celebrating the season with family and such, but 'tis definitely the season to be greedy.
I don't think having your CMT makes you a better
MT and I've seen CMTs who did really lowsy work. I have never considered getting my CMT. I have always been told that I do top quality work and at companies that do pay a differential for having your CMT, I am paid the same rate. Some people need letters after their name for whatever reason.
What makes you think KS is any
different than the company you work for? Go ahead. Check them out, but don't come back here complaining.
Can you say what makes you think this.
I don't understand why people take the time to respond to questions but they really aren't telling you anything. If you have something to say...say it. But please only say what you know. I'm not interested in what one 'thinks'. If you 'know' it...let me hear it.
Thanks.
What makes me mad? sm
When new people get hired at a higher line rate and doing easy accounts.
What makes you so sure it is YOUR job? Maybe they just need more help
Makes you wonder
The intro letter they send makes them sound like top professionals - and they waste no time in telling you how many fail their test.
But it makes you wonder when see *several* typo's in the materials that come with the tape - and then they are very lax with the testing process. Something tells me not getting my results was actually a favor in disguise. :)
WHAT MAKES YOU SO SURE
they are living in this country. Most are in INDIA and calling from INDIA!!!! Gotta give these companies credit though. They know how to hire good tech folks to set up in THE U.S.A. and they most likely live here but came from India.
Makes me wonder now..
My husband worked out of state for 3 years and they only took out taxes for that state. He says that when you work in another state, the state taxes for that particular state are the ones they take out. This is also a big co., so they should know the laws too, but if that's the case with MT, I guess you would have state taxes taken out for the state in which the co. headquarters are located. But I certainly can't speak as an expert because I have no idea, just know that's what happened in my hubby's case. It's never been an issue with me because I live in the state where my co. is based.
Makes ya wonder, don't it?

makes you wonder
I worked for a company for around 2-1/2 years, basically 7 days a week to help out. Never got one single incentive for it, nor did I expect it because in my eyes at the time, this was as good as it got. I also never asked for a day off while I worked there. I was paid lower than what I've been paid at other companies, in fact, 2-3 cents lower. I was offered more for other places, but I let personal feelings and guilt if I left them get in the way of business. I liked the personal feel of the company, as there were only about 30 transcriptionists and you had a chance to get to know your doctors--probably about 50 of them. My skills were good because I was always told that.
I had to leave due to reasons that I didn't have any control over and got literally a 1 sentence reply 3 days later. Said basically ok, no thank you, no good luck, no nothing. I still worked my 2 weeks afterwards. My reason wasn't a run of the mill lame excuse either. This was my first thanks. I felt like dirt after sending it and was sick about it for about a week before I did. I certainly didn't want them to say oh, please stay because I couldn't have even if I wanted to. I just expected a more grown up response from someone who could definitely write professionally.
Things have since cleared up and I have been back in the job market for about 2 months, so I sent my resume to them and re-applied. I figured, I liked working there, they liked me--had a great platform, why not? Well, this was over a month ago and never received an I'm sorry Sharon, we don't need anyone at this time. I figured, you can give an old employee that much acknowledgement, especially when it comes from a familiar e-mail and you KNOW they've read it as soon as they received e-mail notification because they, from personal experience, always got back to your e-mails within seconds.
I don't expect anyone to kiss my butt, but a little bit of graditude from a place where you aren't just a number, where you are like family, I guess I expected a little more. Am I wrong?
I have gotten more heartfelt e-mails from companies I have been with less time than that.
Moral of my story: They don't care about you, so if you don't have to, I wouldn't worry about sacrficing your family, life, and health to care about them.
I have found a better place who won't use me for my time or under pay me or EXPECT that I be at my computer all day every day to help them.
Thanks for listening, Sharon
What makes you....
so in the know that you look at other people's work. I work there and there are no names on jobs...just MT numbers. I have been there for more than 3 years, was not a newbie when I started, and like it there just fine. I do not brown nose, and do not speak to anyone. It log on, work, and log off. I pass all my QA reviews have absolutely no problems with QA. It is beyond me how all you whiners and complainers know so much about everyone that works there...I would imagine you spent more time gossiping and spreading rumors while there than actually working.
Wow that makes my day - thanks!
as to sensible comments - anyone seen my prozac?
Really makes you wonder huh?
This is just one example of how we as at-home MTs do not really know who we are working for? This sounds like the ultimate bait and switch.
I don't know about CS but SSc makes you buy...sm
a pedal off the web. Seems like only a specified brand ($139 .. at a special MT discount will work with their program (LOL). This isn't specified in their job posting, though.
What makes anyone think only MTs are having this done??
This is a common practice now for jobs of every description, not just in our field. Someone said if I were in their spot might not like, I took bankruptcy years ago and did not buy ANYTHING on credit for years. When I once again tried, had clean slate and like I was starting all over. When I was low on money, I worked several jobs in order to pay my bills then and brought my credit back up to an excellent number now. I have been there (probably worse than most of you now with my bankruptcy) so it can be done and I do not AGAIN mind people checking.
what makes you think they have only 1?
nm
What makes them think someone will
They snooze, they lose.
That makes 2 of us!
They said they sent me an email to download start up but i haven't gotten a thing!
so that makes it right?
nm
My DH is an IT IC and makes far more. Where...
did you hear that?
What makes you think I'm a man? Just by my name?..
It actually means I am a Steely Dan fan...No, I don't work for free but I don't sit home and whine that no one appreciates me, won't give me an atta girl, you are awesome, what can I give you to make you feel some worth in your life! How about just clocking in, doing your job the best you can and not relying on someone having to pat your behind telling you that you are good enough and special? No wonder so many of you are on antidepressants, weight loss drugs, insomnia pills. Grow up and be women, do your job for 8 hours and let it go!
That makes 2 of us (sm)
I can't imagine trying to work under those conditions and, unless it's a very poor quality VR system she works on, I'm leaning toward too many MTs doing their own thing with personal preference, style, expanding when not dictated as such, etc., that are just creating havoc with her VR system.
I get really annoyed when I start seeing kilograms or milligrams popping up, when the client profile says to use abbreviations and the VR system had been trained that way, and suddenly the expanded forms start popping through because one or more MTs are overriding the system.
I cannot fathom having to rework every single sentence of a report without pulling my hair out in frustration!
What makes you different, you are saying
not for those of us in this category. Do you think a bunch of only dumb bunnies work on VR and cannot make a go of anything else? What do you think makes you in a special group? When transcribing straight I did every bit as much as you per day if not more. Where do you get us in this category?
It makes me wonder...
When I first posted on this site it was to warn others of a company that has and is still not paying employees for the work they do. It was for no more and no less of a reason than to fairly warn some people who are out there looking for work.
I have been in this field for over 3 decades and I am sick to death of watching the MTSOs negate our education, our foundation and our work ethics by doing things like sending work overseas, over hiring to clear an account and then letting those people sit with no work and no income or not paying them at all. What happened to treating people with your conscience and recognizing them for the work and loyalty that they put into the company they were hired to work for? What happened to banding together to keep our industry honest and inviting to people who are looking for a field to go into? What happened to plain decency?
Anyway - I digress. The bottom line is that I came on here to warn people of a company who is not paying their employees for whatever reason. Take it - leave it - no one forces anyone to read these comments or act on them. I did my part. Good luck and God bless!
It makes me sad too
I thought this was a profession that I could retire from, but obviously that's not the case the way things are going. I've decided to go back to school for nursing soon, as I can't make enough money to support my family the way things are going. So I just need to hang on for a little while longer in the MT field. I just don't know if I should take the job offer with the other company or not - I guess I just don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire so to speak.
It makes me sad, too
When I first started there, it was great. MT week and Christmas, we always got a gift certificate. This year, nothing.
I signed up for the 401K because they were supposed to match it. So far nothing.
I went to VR because I wanted to learn and it was great at first. Then the push to get more and more on VR. Now, there's rarely enough work.
I would love to leave, but I have no choice but to stay. I have to keep robbing Peter to pay Paul and it would only get worse if I left. My pay, since the push, has dropped $500 a pay period. Part of that is my fault. I no longer flex as much as I used to. After a certain time of the day, I'm worn out, plus have other priorities after my scheduled hours. There is no way I can flex any longer.
Another reason is that I can retire if I want. I've been holding off and hoping things would get better, but it's looking more and more like that will be my only option. The push is on for all companies to do VR, not just TT, so I certainly don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fire again.
I'm sure there is one somewhere who makes
line count and is content, but if you read the archives and see all the problems with thi company I can't believe anyone would think twice about applying. They are constantly hiring because they can't keep anyone. Worst company I ever worked for.
Ah-so! That makes sense.
Hope you get the answers you're looking for--pass along any info if you would, please. I'm interested, too!
MQ makes me physically ill
They pretend to be offering such good deals.......the more you type the more you can make. Big whoop. If all you get is junk, there is no way to make lines.
And I agree about not being sure about lines counted. They are so slippery who knows what they are doing. All I know is this new system is just so they can do what they were doing before, except now they can manipulate lines LEGALLY!
You are right too about raises. Your supervisor will advise you oh don't ask for a raise, no, don't. Your supervisor also never says you are doing a good job, never thanks you for your extra time you give them, for typing when they call and ask fro help. Nope you are just a monkey on a chain whose cage they rattle when they want something. They don't even look at their employees as human beings. Shoot, I know people who have resigned, left, been gone months, and MQ doesn't even know they have quit!!!! no lie. I know of at least 2 people like that.
They have hit rock bottom for me now. On top of having to "eat" approximately $500 in order to accommodate them when they change us to the new platform, they can't even help defray some of the costs. I'm doing them a favor. I'm an MT who knows the accounts, the doctors, the area. That takes time to learn and become proficient at. But no, they would rather hire new people at a cheaper rate and have them come in - paying I might add for the wave pedal, new Win XP, pay for hook up to DSL, pay extra for the DSL until they ever decide to reimburse for that, and of course if you are slow to get used to the program, they will probably hedge on even paying the monthly DSL cost. Be careful new people.
MQ makes me want to puke. The are in Hawaii having a wonderful time, living it up, rubbing in our faces these things, and they can't even pay for a danged computer for MTs to use so they can somehow manage to switch over from one platform to the new one without losing $300-400 in income. Right. You have a party in Hawaii, MQ, and see how many people leave over this picture you are putting out there for the rest of your trained MTs.
But MQ can't provide computers with the new XP program on it - no they want the MT to hand over to MQ $50 a month to lease an MQ computer with XP on it and let it sit there until MQ gets ready to change over. There is no way to load XP on a Win 98 computer, so you can't keep working on the old program, you have to be down days and that means no income.
So, lets see, in order to accommodate MQ to change to new system:
(1) Pay $75 to get hooked up to DSL
(2) buy wave pedal
(3) pay to have XP put on own computer at some later date and be down for a couple of days while that's done
(4) lease computer from MQ for $50/mo
(5) be slowed down on line count during learning curve.
(6) not work for 2 days while in training
yep, will have to absorb a loss of apx $500 to help out ol MQ.
Frankly I don't think it's worth it. It would be monitarily better to change jobs now before laying out even more money for a company that doesn't give raises anyway, and go to a place that I know does and to one that doesn't play with the line count, and to one who doesn't advertise they have QA and tech support but in reality they are not available unless you get on a waiting list to be called back in possibly 24-72 hours. What a joke.
Okay..that makes a lot of sense..
Obviously, you are a bit off your rocker.
You know, that makes me feel a little better..
Like I said, maybe I need to not worry so much about what I read here. My experience with OSi so far has only been good, so hopefully it will stay that way. I'm not going to jump ship until that changes.
No 1 MAKES ME do anything. Have free

Makes sense
Your point is valid! I would take it up with corporate or your supervisor immediately!
Sort of makes me wonder who is really doing the
posting, don't ya think? That seems to be the intent of the posts, to turn us all off OSI, and somehow I have a sneaking suspicion it is one or more of the unhappy ex's now having fun at OSI's expense!
Ah...but what fun it makes on a slow day!
We all love to be 'right'!! And if we can't be right then maybe we can just be silly. Sorry etched in stone. I should have continued but ended up getting distracted. It is (was) a cold, snowy, slow, and beautiful day and a fun topic came up and I was inspired to respond. Obviously not very well. Small, see, long, short, no ..... we will keep them all and continue to wonder why 127 people opened a message that so obviously had NM in it!
Just can't help it...it might just mean nasty message or naughty message so we have to peek.
who MAKES you take the good with the bad
in your life (not having insurance in your state) but you are willing to TAKE the good with the bad. It was a personal choice and something you can do something about. If you are a really good MT who is valued by your company who does not offer insurance in your state, negotiate to get the same treatment as an MT working for them where there is insurance in that MTs state. If they contribute to that MTs HI, why can't they cut you a monthly check for that amount so you can independently get the insurance you need.
Be inventive. You're settling for lessor benefits than others within this company because they treat you well (which I think is a good thing) but they are also taking advantage of you and it benefits their bottom line not to have you in their health insurance package.
Stand up for yourself. Hope you don't take this negatively but someone said to state just the facts. The facts are you are willing to accept less than another MT with the same company that benefits that company and that decision is yours and yours alone and it hurts you.
Don't you want to live differently?
Now THAT makes me nervous!
What you say makes no sense.
Why would you resent getting more work when you're FT? You make no sense. A PT person isn't going to do as much as a FT person, so I don't get why you'd resent anyone. Why not worry about doing your own work instead of what PT people are doing. Jeez!!
Man, that makes me mad when it cuts off like that. sm
Bush actually supports offshoring and has implimented plenty of tax cuts to companies and hospitals alike for sending work offshore!
of course experience makes you a sm
better MT! If these people after offering to mentor you and let you learn how to do operative reports correctly, grab the job! That is experience. That is how you learn in this business. What concerns me about some mentoring programs is that they take advantage of you. Have these people said anything about taking away money if you didn't meet certain quality standards? If they have, that is not fair. If they are mentoring you and teaching you, the money should not be touched. Actually no one should ever mess with your pay check.
Did you take a test with this full-time position that included operative reports? What concerns me is that if you have no experience in operative reports, does this company have good QA or are they letting stuff slide through that shouldn't. What I have run into in the many years in this business, are MTs who have been doing things incorrectly for YEARS and are shocked when they are shown what is wrong. That is a disservice to the MT as far as I am concerned. People forget this is a legal document and not just lines to be typed.
Good luck.
My sister is an RN and makes sm
She has the associates degree.... She makes $27.50 hr base pay she has been a nurse for about 3 maybe 4 years..... hope that helps
What does what her husband makes have anything
to do with anything?
Oh, that makes more sense.
I'm just an ex-heartlander who was curious. I still have some friends that work there.
Thanks.
Thank you, Kim. That makes sense. sm
I thought it had to do with Direct Deposit. Geez, it's been a loooong day!!!
not true at all ... what makes you say that?
nm
You can skip it then if it makes you ill. :)
:)
This is the kind of pay that makes QA
just fall to the bottom. I love mentoring, but please pay me an hourly wage to do it and I don't mean $15 an hour!! I am assisting with my 30 years of knowledge to help a fellow MT become an asset to the profession! Being paid by the line to mentor a new MT is disgusting. I have mentored many and have been a QA specialist for a number of years and in our profession for more than I would care to think and every day I wake up and look at these boards and read the pay, I become more disgusted with the field.
