I recall a similar situation -- years ago -- where the culprit turned out

to be one of the doctor's wives -- who, doncha know, had worked in the office (or an office) previously and thought herself expert ....

You need to figure out what result you are looking for. If you were working as an independent contractor, I'd say suing for wrongful termination is out of the question. Most other suits do require you to show damage ...

Since you have all this documentation, consider calling the senior or managing partner yourself ... will you be blackballed in your community?  Quite possibly.

I have struggled with a similar situation for years
now.  In my case the problem is not activities for the kids, but older relatives who frequently need rides to the doctor or ER.  I finally found a schedule that works by adjusting my hours so I am off most weekday mornings and 2 days during the week...I work full days every weekend.  I have not had to take any time off since changing the schedule...if anyone needs to go to the ER on the weekend, there are others in the family who work more normal hours and can take care of whatever comes up.   This Mom might try to take a long hard look at her schedule and coordinate better with her husband or the grandparents to meet the kids' needs.  Just a suggestion.
Faced similar situation some years ago
MDI AND the nursing school proposal weighs less than the few years you'll have w/your son while he's young. The nursing school and transcription jobs will always be there, but you son being the age is he is now will fly by. Being home when my son got home from school was so important to me I passed up a very good opportunity to work at UCI Medical Ctr in Orange. Can you do an online nursing course while working from home for MDI? It is a hard decision; I know nursing jobs pay more. Getting proper financial support from his father? I don't see demand for experienced MTs decreasing at all in the future; those rumors are fear-mongering. Enjoy the time w/your son, it passes so quickly. Mine is 20 years old almost!
Similar situation here..
That gal has some serious issues. I agree with you to each his or her own. Maybe you have to have something in common with her...i don't know. Just glad i found an editor position elsewhere.
Similar situation here
I think I was "hired" at the end of June. Every step of the hiring process took at least a week. I am now still in "training." There doesn't seem to be enough work for me to practice on. I expected to be FT by now. I finished by DQS training the 1st week in August; got a telephone survey yesterday from MQ about DQS training, which really blew my mind. So concerned about the adequacy of the training and yet there's no work. Frankly, I think DQS is a piece of cake and don't know what the big deal is.

If I had quit my old job when I was supposedly hired, I would be SOL right now. I'm tempted to look elsewhere but as a newbie, I don't think I'm going to get a better line rate anywhere else and the benefits seem to be good.
I was in a similar situation with them
They weren't saying resign or be fired but it was getting to that point. I could see it coming. I quit when the threats started. Too much pressure. I am sorry you are going through this too.
Yes. I had a similar situation SM

I had been trying to get it together to work for them for several weeks, months really.  Lots of emails back and forth.  They really wanted me, but I couldn't work it out for a long time.  Finally we set a date to get set up --- no contact all day from them.  The next day, she contacted me and we set up a definite time for yet the next afternoon --- but, again, I heard nothing from her that day.  I decided at that time that we had dragged each other along for long enough and I would just email her and tell her no thanks after all, which I did.  I really don't know if she is that busy or what, but an email would have been nicue (or getting some else in the office to call) when she wasn't going to come through for set-up.  I just ended up being afraid they would not be dependable for me.

The lady you are emailing with is probably the owner, and I had talked to her on the phone several times - very nice.  I also read on a post here that she had built the company all herself and that it was a good place to work.  I just decided against it.

I'm in a similar situation
About 3 weeks ago, we were offered a bonus for doing extra lines on a certain account, and I did this, but I have not received my bonus. I feel very weird about asking where my bonus is as it has been 3 weeks, but I guess I will have to if I want to know what is going on!
I was in a similar situation...sm

I think you made a great choice by asking and receiving more work, and I really hope that helps you.  I had tried to stay loyal to my company for years, but with so many changes and pay cuts I finally had enough, and decided it was time to go look for some different poo to tolerate, because every job has it, just depends on you about how much and what you want to put up with.  I looked through the archives here, looked on the company board, and then just started jumping on to different company sites and testing.  I received several offers after testing, which btw is not nearly as hard as I had feared after being in the same job for several years.  I found and accepted a better job that pays more, and I actually feel appreciated again.  I do know there are a lot of companies looking for 2nd and 3rd shift, and I did compromise on my hours and days, I am going from a M-F to a S-T shift, that should tell you something.

Sometimes it just takes a little help from others to boost your confidence.  Some people sugar coat, some people vinegar coat, it all boils down to the same thing though.  See how the new account and work goes, and if you find you are still not happy, just start looking somewhere else.  Sometimes it just takes a different picture to make you happy.  Just don't be afraid to try.  You don't have to quit your current job to do it, use your slow time to train for the new job if that is the route you want to go.

Even the mean people are feeling the crunch of this time of year, no matter how much they want you to believe they are not affected, that is bologna.  It is very well known it slows down this time of year.  Maybe that is why they are so mean.  Us nice sunshiny people probably do make them ill with all of our life is wonderful, LA te da, look on the bright side attitudes.  That is again a choice, you can either find something to be happy about or you can find something to be hateful about.  It is not right or wrong, it is people.

So everybody quit bashing, and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas or whatever is your special holiday!

I am in a similar situation
I was hired by a company and told my start date would be Jan 9th.  Delays, delays.  Got everything installed on my computer this week.  We were instructed to be ready for training Thursday, and then nothing.  I emailed the supervisor and she said she would email a training schedule, but I haven't heard anything.  I don't want to pester her and start off on the wrong foot, but this is getting ridiculous.  I wonder if it is the same company as you.
RE: Similar situation
Does this company by any chance start with an M? I went through a very very similar situation and now I'm realizing the job is not worth it.
very similar situation here in California
Main office in Ontario, California. What a mess. The US owner (great person) thought it was going to be good thing but it turned out bad for her and the US MTs.
Similar situation for me at Amphion

On one account by the time I was through adding all the information I calculated that I was barely making more than minimum wage.  The reports were short and I spent more time adding the demographics than I did typing the report.  I did work on the university account as well and I never got the same dictator more than once.  I made less than half at Amphion as what I make now.  I was pretty new to MTing then and thankful to have a job but I knew that I could do better elsewhere.  I got some experience under my belt and now I make between $15 and $20 per hour which may not be a lot to some people but to a fairly new MT it is okay with me.  I do think it is a pretty good place to get some experience if you are starting out but it did not take long for the demographic data entry to get old.  Hope this helps.

Similar situation resolved
I had a problem last paycheck (not with insurance), called payroll right away and problem was resolved immediately. Call or e-mail first thing on Monday, don't think there is anyone there on weekends.
Went thru very similar situation with Superior...
Had a firm job offer and had just ordered a new computer. I sent her the specs on the model I had ordered, she sent specs to IT who said it would work fine. She said they'd be ready for me to install and start the day the PC arrived.

Five days later, the compute rarrived. I emailed to let her know I was ready to roll; got no response. The next morning, I left her a voicemail and emailed; no repsonse to either.

Taking this is a huge red flag, I accepted another offer I had received a couple of days before and never looked back.

It's a good thing I didn't hold my breath counting on Superior to get in touch with me to start the account, because I never heard a single word from them again.

Some of these organizations are just FLAKY, IMO.
I had a similar situation, but it was the OWNER doing the easy stuff herself. Yes, I left.

Recall reading years ago of this happening sm
can't recall all the details but the MTs said they needed their money and would discontinue until paid or would go to the physicians (same similar situation)and mention this fact and DID.

They actually posted to the dictator (somehow online, so when thhey tried to dictate, stated the situation -- they could not continue dictation until the company (the dictators contracted with) paid them. Gutsy, not sure I could but THREE WEEKS com'on!!! Seems I am reading this more and more on the boards.
yes they should be turned in. Years sm
ago MQ/TL was IC status. They did the same thing and they had to go to SE status because the IRS made them do it. Best thing that ever happened. Things were great until they started off-shoring and it went down the tubes. I bet when the folks who are ripping me apart have their jobs sold down the river, they will be complaining and screaming. Personally I say if you want to be a slave and pimp yourself out to a company go for it! Personally MDI is on my list of turn ins.
I was offered 8.25 cpl in the beginning of 2006. Turned it down. 13+ years in.
s
I was turned down with 13 years of experience with 4 in acute care. Go figure, but thanks anyway.
I was totally floored as I have experience with the basic 4 as well as multiple specialties. I am not quite sure what they are looking for. The ironic part was a year ago I received the same response from Spheris, yet they advertise that you have to only one years' experience. What is funny about that is the hospital I worked for had just signed a contract with them and they were hired to do work that I was doing on a daily basis at the hospital, yet I did not qualify. Very odd.
This was my situation over 2 years ago and leaving
was the best thing I ever did. I am so sorry you are having such problems. As you, I hung on for over 2 years and it never did get better...they were heartless in my opinion...
Any ideas who the culprit might be?
If you focus real hard, you might at least be able to narrow it down to a dozen or so possible perps.
Offshoring - the real culprit

Contrary to what offshoring MTSOs claim, offshoring isn't about scheduling; it's about profit ... period.  The third shift and weekends argument just doesn't hold water.  I've been transcribing acute care for 20 years, and I don't know many MTs who adhere to a no weekends or nights schedule on a regular basis.  They know other options are available to their clients and employers and want to keep them happy.  If an MT refuses to work the hours required, there are others stateside, like me, who are willing to do so.  Let's get over the blame the spoiled, lazy American first mindset that seems so prevalent these days and put the blame where it belongs - squarely on the shoulders of MTSOs who don't want to pay seasoned professionals to do the job right the first time.

I recall that they were looking for an MT
to do radiology a few weeks ago. I don't know the current status, but contact them. I've had a very good experience with them thus far.
From what I recall
there are two separate areas to apply on the website. One is for experienced MTs, and one is for recent graduates.
I seem to recall something of them before - sm
Kind of ringing a bell. I think I submitted a resume before and heard nothing. Kind of wondering about that. I have tons of experience and lots of years as well and have heard nothing.
From what I recall, it varies.
I think the low was something like $12 a PP (with a high deductible plan), and I forget what the high was. All of their plans had fairly high deductibles, with the lowest being $1500, I think. They start 30 days after probation, which means 120 days; a little too long for me.
It was at least that long ago, don't recall
exactly. Have no idea if we are talking about the same supervisor or not, but even so, we're each entitled to our own opinion. I thought the guy was a jerk - my opinion.
and the best I recall, we were supposed
to save all of our logs and periodically send them to our team leader. I had so many binders when I left them after a very short time, I had one whole shelf full of them. Everything negative I have read about this company has been absolutely true from my experience. They sound good ....
As I recall, the IRS rules for IC ...
specify that if the company has or asserts control over any part of your working conditions, time, production, clients, etc, then you have to be called an employee and treated as such tax-wise.

If I recall correctly...
We ran out of work once while I was on that account, and they paid for no work downtime at an hourly rate.  If anyone is really interested, I would speak with the recruiter because I believe they do pay for no work available and technical downtime.
As I recall, anything over 1x year salary SM
required proof of insurability.
I think I recall Gateway as a SCAM
There was a company advertised with pretty much the same details/info in the last year. I went to their website and it was linked to a small company here in Oregon, so I phoned the company. This sham company had hacked into the Oregon company and was bilking them of LOTS of money.

What sounds the same is the $30 per hour and the virtual assistant/representatives in customer service...

RUN FAST in the opposite direction.
I recall your post. You did not get a response and it was YOU
who were very rude and downright nasty. My goodness, you have no insight whatsoever.

The answer to your question would have taken a great deal of time to answer, perhaps others did not want to get into it.

I decided NOPE after I read your post, though never did find initial post question.

Not sure, but I come across people who literally expect adoption papers to be taken out and get angry when this does not come about.

I think ya all DO have a
hip aw rooon the shoulder, just don't have the energy or inclination to bother. Sorry.
I don't recall saying I was quitting, just gonna wait and see. nm
.
I remember the jewish post but I recall the poster
trying to turn the whole thread into something ugly because there was only a christian forum on that site. As a Jew, I was embarrassed by the whole thing. I remember an agnostic poster asking for a separate board and the owner added nondemoninational board. Just my two cents.
Recall WalMart asked staff to work off clock for overtime, remember? sm
It was on TV, newspapers, it took a court thing to resolve. Guess people will try most anything (for the moment) and just pay a fine, i.e. the cost of doing business.
I was turned down

by TRX because I am not a member of the AKC. Disappointed.

I turned them down too
Took a job that paid more. 7.75 cpl was just way too much of a pay cut for me.
I know someone who turned them down
recently because of the low pay. I guess they sent her a contract anyway and didn't even acknowledge that she very clearly stated that she will not work for anyone for that line rate. Then they sent her an email wanting to know why she hadn't filled it out and returned it. Not the brightest bulb in the bunch??
I was turned off of them because..
I applied, immediately heard back and asked to test immediately because they were in a big hurry to fill the positions and liked my resume. I did this and then...NOTHING.. not the courtesy of even telling me I passed or didn't pass (honestly this test was so easy that I would have been shocked if I didnt pass). I even did a follow email to see what was going on and they never even acknowledged me in any shape or form. In my eyes, this is total unprofessionalism and gives me a bird's eye view how they handle their business. No thanks. I moved on.
Turned another one down...
I received another offer today of 8 cpl (from a popular MTSO), no matter the level of experience. Seriously??? So, I would be paid the same rate as a newbie, and I have 22 years of HARD-EARNED experience? I think not. I am going to keep sending in my resume and I'll keep turning them down if they remain low. I may be but a single voice, but it will be heard. They should be ashamed. I made more than 8 cpl when I first started. There's no way I'd go back to lower than that at this point in my career. I'm too good for that.
They tried but KS turned them down. sm
They were not happy when the owners turned them down, but from what I understand, they do socialize together.

The owners of KS are very open about being aggressive with growth and want to be at $50 million. With the way they grow every year, I bet it will happen sooner than later.

I am glad to work for a company that is growing. The MQ and Spheris annual reports are very scary. How can they stay in business with losing millions every year?
Yes, very similar. (sm)

I think they are interchangeable, meaning if you save a document in Word Perfect, you can open it up in Word (on the newer versions anyway).  I used to prefer Word Perfect over Word, but now I like Word better.  But, yes, they are very similar.

I just went through something similar
about a month ago when I left a big national to work for Keystrokes. I was apprehensive about it at first but now I wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Good luck!
something similar
I had something similar happen when a former employer did not pay the insurance bill for a month. It sounds like this is what happened to your company, although I would be concerned that they told you they would reimburse. Does that mean they don't have the money to pay the bill?! Something weird is going on, and I would ask a lot of questions.

I would never tell anyone to get a different job, but I personally think that everyone should have an updated resume at all times.

Let us know what happens, okay? Good luck - I hope it works out the way you want it.
OSI has similar
plan, which I read in the fine print of the employment papers.  It said that I would only be paid minimum wage if the client did not pay.  It was unclear as to whether back pay would be made once the client did pay or if I would never receive any more than minimum wage if the client NEVER paid.  So, I turned down the position.  I'm really surprised that I have never read about this little detail on these forums (regarding OSi of Georgia).
Actually it's very similar to
what's going on here. It's about dishonesty being punished so the rest of us have a fair shake. In other words, management not doing anything about a cherry-picker is as bad as saying It's ok honey. Go ahead and cherry-pick.
be glad you turned it down (sm)
The Baltimore office's "big" oncology account is MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. To be cleared to work on the account you have to train for weeks with this PA person (not MT, no background in English, etc.) who is comma crazy and keeps changing her mind. Reminds me of OmegaWorst's QA -- people who have never properly learned grammar and syntax, provide no printed style guide, and nit-pick to death. Think the docs care whether there is or is not a comma after the last item in the series?
That's interesting! I just turned SS
xx
The thread turned and

and drifted to another company.  It's not your fault, and it's easy to see how you could have taken it the way you did.  (As an aside, I totally understand and empathize with the late nights!!!)

And I agree with what you said.  It is very helpful to express good experiences with a company.  However, I'm not going to do that unless I've been with a company for a minimum of 1-1/2 years.

I don't know how long you've been with FN.  I can only speak from my own experience, and I came here before as a newbie, bragging about how great a company was, only to discover months later that the negative comments I responded to were completely accurate and warranted, and now I have egg on my face.  ~LOL~

I won't ever post a positive post about a company until well after the honeymoon period, when I'm certain they're for real, even though I know how tempting it is when you think you've struck gold and found the right company, getting good line counts, making lots of money, etc., to want to share that positive experience with the world!

Sometimes I think that's part of the company's reason for the honeymoon period:  So the employees will think the company is so great, they happily and unwittingly become a PR person for the company.

I've recently been burned pretty badly by the company the above poster was referring to, so that's why I responded.  Even though she didn't mention any specific names, those of us who are employed by that company know exactly who she was talking about.

Again, I apologize for confusing the issue.  I totally believe everything you said about FN, and I'm glad you found a company that makes you want to defend it.  There's nothing better than being able to respect and trust your employer.  I hope someday I can find that kind of company, and I just might check FN, based on your comments.

I turned them down for same reason.
