I was so very disappointed. My quality was great they said, and we set a schedule etc. but the training never finished and with all my waiting around, I had to regroup, because I lost too much money waiting. I guess they were busy with other people training and lost track. They were nice and I finally asked if I could just have some questions answered about expander, normals, etc. I was not answered and gave up. I am glad it is working out for everyone else. I just feel kind of left out, but maybe things happen for the best :) I hope only good things for this company and for the MTs, and I guess it just isn't for everybody.

I fully expect OSI to raise line count from 10K
Its a matter of time before OSi makes the minimum line count 12K again, surprised it hasn't happened already. 10K is low anyway. Watch for it. They have new financial partners and are cutting corners. Mark my word this will happen.

You should just put a separate posting about who USED to belong to AAMT/AHDI and who doesn't now, and why they didn't renew. Same with you used to be a CMT and let their certification lapse.
I spent a lot of time and money participating in meetings and supporting them. I kept my cert up for 12 years. I received nothing in return. Not one bit of support when the Indian companies were buying up the American ones and putting us out of jobs. The majority of the Presidents and other Board members of AAMT/AHDI in the last 10 years have worked for Indian companies. All you have to do is go to their website and look up past officers. At one time they had a separate CMT exam for the Indian transcriptionists because they couldn't pass the one we had to take over here. When the Indian MTs came to the annual meetings for AAMT they were treated like royalty and introduced as special guests. I was there and I saw it myself.
I know you're a new MT and have a lot of hope and positivity about the future. That's great and I wish you all the luck in the world. Hopefully you'll find the documentation you're looking for and decide not to support this worthless organization.

Take a look at what is happening in India. For the first time, workers there have money to get themselves into debt by buying high priced items (cars for example). They now protest lower castes being allowed into universities at almost double the previous allowance. Wait until they are highly in debt, begin to feel entitled to a wage equal to that paid inthe US and then, try to form unions, get tossed out into the street and sit back with some Ben and Jerry ice cream and watch the economy collapse and all that dictation come back across the ocean. Timing is everything.

So, I guess you could maybe get by with less than 1000 a day, although the incentive tier would make it worth your while to do a bit more. I am using ExText, and yes, I find it easy to use, but then I used it for a year with another company. I think their other platform is Mongoose, and I know nothing about that, so really cannot say.
Yes, they are hiring now. In fact, there is a $500 sign-on bonus. I think it is all just acute care. I'm sure they would love to have someone with your experience. Rhonda Durham is the recruiter. I am sure she could answer any of your questions. I am happy to help too, if I can, but I am relatively new. The account I am working on is mostly psych, it seems, and I am loving it.
Another nice thing, their benefits start after 60 days, not 90 like most.

Unfortunately, I have had to use it a lot since it changed and I am very happy. They have covered everything.
The insurance is actually $80 cheaper per month than I paid at the local hospital, which is a large employer.

2 part-time jobs have been slow after Christmas and have run out of work (one is cilnic, the other acute care), but my full time job has been keeping the work coming (acute care which is a trauma center and a major medical center)

Working there for 3 years. Running out off and on problem, but in the past 6 months or so rarely happens (until last week). on my accounts. Sunday did very little. Today there is work. A few weeks ago both my accounts were very busy. I know they were hiring; now maybe there are too many people. This is why I work for more than 1 company. Can't rely on one for enough work.

Hi there!
About running out of work - I see this is a very hot topic on the boards, as well as in the entire industry, and it's always the same this time of year. I am a supervisor now, but when I was a regular MT, working on production, it used to be the most frustrating time ever - from mid-October to right after the first of the year. I'll never forget dialing in multiple times on my C phone one Christmas - all day long. I just felt like I was fighting for work.
First of all, the reason for this dramatic drop in work is attributed to several different reasons. It's not that the company has hired too many people, and pushed you out of work. It's not that someone is secretly manipulating your work pool, and taking work away. It has nothing to do with offshoring, or any of that - Trust me. This was a problem WAY before offshoring became the major issue it is today. This is simply a result of less office and hospital visits. Most hospital visits are generated by older patients, and their routine, or urgent, procedures, necessitating H&Ps, Consultations, Discharge Summaries, OP notes, clinic visits to follow up the surgery they just had, etc., and etc. Many of them simply do not want to get out this time of year. They will put off going to the doctor until after the holidays. No one wants to schedule things during the holidays, and even people who have minor emergencies will try to treat themselves rather than go to the ER during this busiest season of the year.
So, how do we manage it?
I take a lesson from some people I know who are union workers, and their work is mostly outdoors. Their work slows down during the wintertime. They know it, and they prepare for it. They put their funds in a savings account, or their branch of the union does it for them, to doll out later when work is leaner. You can be your own credit union. Many companies offer great - ABSURDLY great - incentives when the work is in a big backlog. Take this opportunity next year, and put all of your overtime or incentive pay in a savings account, so you can use it when the holidays hit again near the end of October next year! You could just jump from company to company, or decide to go work in an office somewhere hourly, but don't fool yourself. Neither of those solutions will ever replace the rewards for being a dependable, steady, disciplined, loyal employee of a good company. Find one you like, and stick with it, but know ahead of time that this year is going to be lean. Be ready - be expectant. It's one of the things about this industry you wish someone would have told you when you started, right? Well, I'm telling you...

Try one of the heavy ESL teaching accounts.... you'll never have to worry about running out of work. They do have them ya know!
Running out of work
I am a new Precyse MT (2 wks) and there have been a couple times when I've run out of work before end of my shift, but as soon as I notified my manager, I was given another account to work on. They have so far been very responsive to me and always willing to work with me. I love it so far.

The platform is pretty pathetic. The do pay on time and seem friendly. I switched companies because I kept running out of work and the same goes on here. Oh well. I am tired of learning new doctors and new personalities so I plan on staying. Maybe I can find something else really flexible to fill in the low spots. Good luck!

I left this outfit at the first of the year and my accounts with my new employer have been going hot and heavy every since. Let's face it people, people do not quit getting sick or having surgeries in the summer months. There is no slow season in this field. 
To MDI-MD MTs; is work still running low; I was about to
accept a position but then I heard work had been low. I was also told by recruiter the ESLs were few but then I saw some postings stating there were many. I have been where I am at for several years so when I move I want it to be somewhere I will be happy for a long while. Can you give me an honest opinion?

right. Get rid of them! Hire those who can do the 2000 a day. Instead, you demean the integrity of the field by paying junk wages. Smart idea...real smart! So they add to the field going into the potty.

I think it depends on what account you work on. I worked there a while back and was assigned a certain # of physicians. If they did not dictate then I did not have work. This was clinic work - but if you are on acute care or maybe radiology that might not be the case.
TT running out of work
Ask for a backup. Today is my day off but I just logged on to see if there was any work to be had and yep, plenty. I'm P/T and most of the time work more than I would like because of backlog. Please don't call me a powers that be or any such. I'm just a lowly MT who has worked for TT for about 4 years, ran out of work only a couple of times on my primary in all that time, asked for a secondary, got it and haven't needed to work on it since. I sure do get tired of the TT bashing though, doesn't even sound like the TransTech I work for.

I think the running out of work is because ...
of the time of the year. Typically the period between Thanksgiving and the first of the year is a slowdown for the entire industry.
This company pays well and on time. They treat their employees very well. You won't go wrong applying here and accepting their offer if one is extended.

Before I left they finally got direct deposit, but I did recall MTs calling often because they were low on work. In my experience as an MT, it is always best to work for at least 2 companies. I work Superior Global and Focus and love them both.

When I type 5:03 it would stay, but then 4:63 and it would convert to a decimal.
None of yesterday's times changed like that but they didn't add up right. I did it off a handwritten log so maybe I'll go back and play with it later when I have more brain.

I can honestly say that I have really never run out of work for more than a few minutes, always make my lines. I even worked extra a few nights these past 2 weeks when asked.

I can't understand how you could be running out of work at MQ. Maybe a year ago, but not anymore. Some times I wish the work would run out, but there is always work.

Up and running with no training.
My 'training' consisted of one 10-minute phone call WHILE my 'trainer' was on her cell phone letting the neighbor's dogs out into the yard.
The first time I called with a question, she was at a restaurant with her family and thus nowhere near her computer. (Both of these calls were during HER scheduled hours mind you!) She couldn't remember what the screen looked like and was just guessing about what info was supposed to go in any given field on the screen.
I quit that week and have never regretted it. IMO, if they can't be bothered to train (for PLATFORM I mean - I have a dozen years of experience and didn't need any training on transcribing) then I can't be bothered to work for them, especially at the rate they were willing to pay.

I don't think that was her posting in defense of MDI. I believe that was another recruiter for another company because I vaguley remember that exchange as well.

Just curious, I have been an MT for about 18 years - and then stopped for a couple of years. I am now working for a service. I read posts about running out of work. My question to all of you is:
Is this pretty standard with any service you work for? I know it is hard for them to control when the docs dictate, etc. Just wondering. Are there any companies that have somewhat of a steady workflow, or are there more MTs than work available now a days?
Sometimes it does take time to get up and running, however....
if your emails have not been answered by two different departments, (training and HR)I would be concerned. IMO, it just isn't very professional to leave someone hanging in limbo. I would be careful.

I have seen so much of this rudeness on every board. Being an exprienced MT is no excuse for this type of behavior. Do not lower yourself to her level and engage her. Even if she has a valid point about anything - she is so ugly and rude that her point or advice do not matter to anyone anymore. Keep looking at her posts and you will see what I mean. Nothing helpful. Nothing productive. Most of the time she can not comprehend what she reads. She just lives to insult others. How sad.
