I like VR

I personally prefer VR, as many of the dictating clinicians are sloppy and the VR often is able to pick up what they said better than what my ears were able to decipher. Not that I depend on the VR, though. Yes, I do confirm that VR has interpreted it correctly. But, VR is great for giving the clue.
Most of the time, I am able to edit VR at an average of 400 lines per hour, give or take. I earn $12-$14 per hour. Whether or not I get 8 hours of work in a given day depends largely on the activities of the dictating clinicians and my fellow MTs who are on the same account. In some respect, I am at the mercy of the other MTs on the account, who may come and go on any given day, during any given shift. In order to earn enough, I have to be flexible and I work all three shifts. I'm grateful to have this option.
I do realize that VR will improve in time to the point where my job may be obsolete. For that reason, I am training next week for an additional part-time position of at-home customer service order taker. Plus, I'm training to be a weight loss coach after losing 160 pounds myself.
IMHO, we all need to think to the future and never have all of our eggs in one basket. Medical transcription is not the first industry that has experienced changes and/or moved to offshore locations. There used to be a place near where I live where clothes were made, where many of my friends and relatives were employed, and that operation moved to the Phillipines several years ago.
As long as I work for someone else, whether it be as an employee or as an IC, I can be assured that I will be taken advantage of to the fullest of their ability and desire, as long as I allow it. The only remedy for me for this would be to quit, as they do not have a desire to change their modus operandi. That is the way it is.
