I left them not long ago. Way too much time spent talking to

tech support because of technical problems or glitches with their system. I probably averaged 90 minutes a day down-time trying to get everything in order. Their transcription platform is not the best in the world from what I saw.

I left there a long time ago but I
had office people but I don't think they were MT's.  I do remember the endless account rules and them changing all the time.  They were very disorganized when they distributed information.  It wasn't the worst place I've worked but it wasn't a picnic either.
That is why I left. I spent days sitting in front of the computer, checking for
work every 5 minutes (or less) for 8+ hours trying to get work. On my days off I used to work 12+ hour days to make up lines, but then they hired people for Friday-Monday work and then there wasn't extra work to make up lines. I would get up at 3 or 4 a.m. and try to get work. I gave it a good try, frequently asked STM for more work, went over her head. They didn't seem to care, meanwhile I'm taking $300 to $400/month out of savings to cover my bills.
And YOUR time is well spent here, right? nm

Time spent in demographics
Are there any company platforms out there where the demographics are already in place?  I could just scream sometimes trying to be a detective to get all the demographics in place only to have a one-liner follow.  Sigh... is it just me or are there others with the same frustration.  It's difficult to make rate when demographics have to be researched and the patient name sounds like Blavopvoskitapove.  Thanks for any clues on this.
I just spent a lot of time checking the web and the
personally attempt it. Maybe you will get some good feedback from people who actually work there, but there was enough information here for me to realize it may not be the place for me personally... I will see if you get any responses, because I am wondering if there are good things there too... Good luck to you!
If you spent more time typing and less snooping, sm
maybe you'd make more money.
IMO look elsewhere...I spent a lot of time waiting for work rather than working! nm

ERROR: 1.60 PER MINUTE OF TRANSCRIPTION, HOWEVER, HAVE THE TIME SPENT WAS PASTING
NM
I wasn't productive on MeriT. Too much time spent entering demographic information...

There is no roster to pull patient names from, so you have to type what the docs say, and those ER docs speak at lightening speed.  I spent more time trying to get the patient name right than I did typing the report.  I really, really hated that.

Yes, you left out the fact that you don't know what you're talking about. sm
Keystrokes pays unemployment in every state that we have employees in (38 at this point).

Supply reference books? Supply fax machine? Yes. If someone cannot get something that will help them, the owner of Keystrokes always helps out.

My husband is a tradesman. He is an employee and is union. He has had to pay for his own tools, his own vehicle to and from work, his own clothes that are destroyed constantly, his own gas. Why should transcription be any different?

I have worked for Keystrokes for 5 years. I transcribe when needed, as many as 15,000 lines per pay period. I have had slow periods like everyone else.

Yes, I get paid a salary I earn in. If you want to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, filling in when transcriptionists call in or don't start their shift on time, giving up hot meals and nights out because a Transcriptionist cannot work their shift, then become management.

I have heard every excuse in the book. I have proofed work from experienced transcriptionists that look like a novice transcribed it. I have worked schedules around everyone's personal lives.

Think management is all fun and games? Think again. I make a good dollar because I earn it.
Diskriter - interested in talking to people who left. SM
I am presently working for another company and am somewhat satisfied.  Am considering Diskriter.  I do not want to make a wrong decision.  If you worked there and left, please let me know if you would be willing to give me some information (bad or good).  I know people hesitate to get into specifics on this forum - email me and I will contact you.  I am just so hesitant to make another change.
What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
It was $1.15 when I left not long ago. nm
x
left MQ not too long ago, and I would definitely NOT
work for them if you are looking to make any money!

Good Luck!
this has been going on too long - I left because of it

As long as you left your job profesionally, you
.
I'm no longer with MDI but I left long

before there were workflow problems.  I actually worked there 2 separate times with the same liaison and accounts each time.  I liked it there but I had a weird primary account that loaded work twice a day and I didn't like working around those 2 times.  My accounts are the ones that went to VR so it's a good thing I left when I did because there certainly wouldn't have been enough work after that on my primary.

Anyway, I have a feeling that they are wanting people to leave so that they can bring new people on at a lower rate.  That's really the only thing that makes sense, don't you think?  Times are tough everywhere so more and more people are going to settle for 8 & 9 cpl for statutory.  You've got tons of people coming on board who are used to babysitting their computer all day so the new folks are probably not going to complain.  The ones who have been with MDI forever are the ones who are really taking the hit.

I agree that it is unfair.

I left out wanting to share..(long night)
nm
I also vote for Webmedx - used to work for the Q, left long ago sm
Have not worked for Transcend or SoftScript so can't judge. I agree with the above poster; pay good, shift diff, PTO, decent bennies. Lots of work. Keep in mind there are two parts of Webmedx - the one on Enterprise platform and ChartMatrix; the ChartMatrix side seems to have more negative reviews.
may be good now, wait until they Global your account, too. I left there long ago, happy I did. nm
.
PAY ON TIME? are we talking about the same JLG?
I love everything about JLG but the recent change they have made to paying us with a paper check versus DD.
What are you talking about time clock?
I have worked for Transcend for 5 years since the MDI-FL merger and there is no time clock. Where did you guys get that idea?
No talking travel.MT worth is our time. MDI does not

She was talking abt not meeting standards in a short time - sm
like a week. Doesn't sound like she was good enough to keep around for longer.
I left OSI just in time before this went down
OSI has proven too much recently for me and I have just left. The timing could not have been more perfect. Whew!
They are going big time for offshoring. I left and
would never return. Horrible management mess, accounts awful, lots of sneaking around and favoritism. Mind you, I was one given VIP treatment, but it made me realize they were not to be trusted AT ALL. Horrible place. I had recommended to a few people and felt so bad when all fell apart quickly.
It sounds like you and I left right around the same time!
I left back in February 2007...just as things were starting to get really bad. I know that they were in danger of losing my primary account. I also heard that they had a massive layoff of US MTs that following summer. I'm so glad I left when I did! I remember feeling like a 10-ton brick had been lifted from my shoulders when I left SPi and started with my new company!
There is a part-time and a flexible part-time, just left there and they offered
me both. Flexible, however, is more or less when they need you (I.e. weekends), part-time is fixed hours.
Had many friends in the QA dept who all left about the same time.
AND...yes, I do believe them!
I'll help! I left MQ at the time of this original post
I found a great job with a great US company, and have my self respect back. Enjoy my work again.  Go USA!!  Go MTs!!
The grass, in my opinion, is definitely not greener. I left QT and a short time later, sm
I came back and was never happier that I did. I should never have left in the first place. I think QT is, by far, one of the most flexible, good-paying, understanding company to work for. I actually enjoy when it is a little slow and volunteer to have a day off. I love to have a day to myself every once and a while.

In regard to the person who waits 30 minutes for work, just call again. Sometimes, the office people get side tracked and then might forget that they didn't get work routed. L told me once, if I didn't have work in 10 minutes, call again. Usually, if this happens to me, the person says something line, Oh, I got busy and totally forgot, I'm sorry, I'll do it right away. Sorry about the long post, I just happen to think that QT is the best company out there! ;)
I have been an MT for a LONG time but
stupid old old Medrite and DOS. I just find the lines super super hard to get! My QA scores are fine, but my counts suck :( I keep building my Expander hoping it will come around but it looks hopeless. I am very discouraged.
To long time MGr no more
Mine was a chronic illness that has improved with treatment; still, I can see how HR discrimination might possibly get in the way.

I would love the flexibility. Where can I find out more about what IC status is? I have some vague idea, but no real idea of serious pros and cons. Thanks so much for your reply!
They did a long time ago
I worked at OSi a couple years ago and they used to have a supervisor who would tell people to do that but she quit working there. She told at least three people that. I heard they don't do that anymore but maybe not, she was the only one. They always had the disclaimer if you have line/time to make up in email's. Funny because she and I both work at the same company now but she is just MT at this company.
no, long time, don't let them get you down --

They're bad, not you.  You know they treat(ed) us like nothings.  It's not the profession, it's that particular company.  Shop around, find someone better.  FN's strategy is to belittle everyone and make them scrape for work.  Do like me, pick up your toys and go somewhere else.  Also, on the way out, be sure to get in your digs and burn that bridge.   They do not deserve us.  My new short-term goal:  Bash FN and show them for the money-grubbing rats they are.

I have been an MT for a very long time

I'm 37.  I raised my kids doing this on-site and from home simultaneous; my kids are 14 and 9.  I worked long hard hours.  I still work hard.  I don't have a zone and I hop up and down from my desk so as not to make my body work so hard at this, but I make good money and I get to stay at home.  I also get to see all events my children are involved in.  I take a day off whenever I want, and yes I have my own accounts.  Please don't be fooled by this 24-hour TAT.  Most practices do not require that strict TAT if you have your own accounts.  It is the online companies requiring this TAT because that's how they get their big clients.  They promise big and most times cannot deliver.

Braggin?  Naah...  I call it knowing how to manipulate and manage my time to benefit myself.  I've never taught MTs and have no desire; I hated cross training on-site and still hate teaching.  I'm just not good at it.

I'm an IC, so it's my way or the highway!!!

That's a really long time.
The company I work for sends out the checks on Monday and I get them on Wednesday, sometimes Tuesday if I'm really lucky.
I have been there a long time
Pay always on time.  Various platforms, not just Spantel, which is a little cumbersome but not awful.  I have NEVER had work taken away from me and thrown in the trash after it was assigned to me.  Management now much better.  Seems wrinkles have been ironed out, which is always needed in any growing company.  Very happy there.
Long-Time MT-NY
You betcha we do! Here is the link. I hope we are allowed to post links here. If not, the mods can take it down and I will apologize. This has tons of stuff made in the good old US of A!

Yes, a long time ago when I used to get
my checks mailed, now I always opt to have direct deposit for that reason.  I remember the owner of the company had to stop payment on that check and issue me another one. It didn't take that long, but like you, we needed the money.  Maybe you can ask them to re-issue you a check and then send it FedEx or next day delivery since this puts you in a bind, or can they trace your check and see where it is?  Sorry to hear your news, I hope you get your money very soon :)
i have been doing asr for a long time now

i think one of the very first accounts to start it, so the recognition is very good on my account.  Also, I speed up the dictator at least 1 or 2 steps but i do listen to every word.   the only other thing i do is not use the mouse much and use the ShortHand macros for editing that are posted on community page.  i don't mind asr.  I would take an all-ASR account over no work any day.

CEO hasn't left yet, she's leaving in August. Co's are bought and sold all the time and I
think this is that big a deal.
Its a lie, they were both in MT industry long time before they met
x
Ummm....I have been with MDI a LONG time
I know a lot of MDI MTs and everyone I know says how many lines they will do on any given day, but they are NOT required to work specific hours.  As I said, I've been with MDI a long time and before that I was with Signal, which was also Dorothy's company, and it worked the same way.
I worked for MQ for a very long time. sm
I really loved working for them until the recent changes, and I agonized over my decision to leave. Now that it is done and over with, I can honestly say that I feel I made the right choice. However, now I find myself desperately searching for that job that I can settle into and be happy with, and hopefully outdo my 8 years with MQ. I definitely don't enjoy changing jobs.

I worked for them a long time ago.
Left in 2003. They were nice enough to work for. Not sure how it is now.
I also have known her for a long time and that just does not sound like her IMO. nm

Been MT'ing a long time.......
In the good old days companies were smaller and run by managers that were actually MTs and could relate to their employees. Now most have been replaced by managers with business degrees, little or no MT experience, and a corporate mentality. It is sad.
I e mailed them a long time ago and
x
I got their info -- seems to take a long time (sm)
to receive the first pay.
The hospitals take a long time with IDs sometimes. I know that the sm
account I am lead on takes anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. It is a source of frustration for the management team as HR hires because of a need and then the hospital takes forever. Not all accounts though. Some are same day.
