I got that beat - three days to figure out it wasn't for me (sm)

Spent more time flipping through paperwork trying to figure out spellings for carbon copies. (CC to everybody! referring doc, primary doc, all docs on speciality team). Spent more time arrowing up and down the prefilled headings looking for the one the doc was dictating. Had to delete headings not used by dictator (but prefilled on form). WASTE of my time. Hopefully they've fixed all this mess.

That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.
That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.
OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.
I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.
Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
That wasn't my experience there. I wasn't on that kind of all-inclusive acct, either. nm

I would not go so far as to say they cannot be beat. sm
There are several services out there offering 10 cents a line AND they pay full benefits, PTO, 401K, holiday pay etc, AND they have direct deposit, which FN has for only a very select few. Who wants to pay $25.00 a pay day to have your check overnighted? Not me. Otherwise, you wait for the mail which could take over a week to get to you. Not very technologically advanced in my opinion. Plus, the ESLs really are the worst ever. I am glad I left and got a REAL job with REAL benefits.
Beat you both....
I am 66 years old and still working full time at home. Worked as a legal Transcriptionist for over 30 years, but had always been interested in medical, so I took a course, and been working ever since. Just wish they had telecommuting many years ago!
Don't beat yourself up
I have a 5-year-old who is prone to ever respiratory illness known to man it seems, which terrifies me after him being born with CDH and one lung not fully functioning. Anyway, even at this age, he knows my work is important but that I'm here for him if he needs me. I actually have my office set up with a small sofa in it. If he's sick, he lays in here with me where I can keep an eye on him. I don't believe your child will be traumatized with you having to work while he's sick. Just the sight of mommy makes things seem better, and at least he has that. :)
Oh I can beat that one...
How bout they email to say there's no work...then close with, Take this slow time to get some Christmas shopping done or to do something nice for yourself! Excuse me, if I aint making cha-ching...I aint Christmas shopping and I certainly aint gonna waste money on a massage or a manicure...Puhleeze!!!
do not beat yourself up
I took the test for the WMX and did pass (they would not accept the schedule I needed). I do believe that I left a blank on one of the reports, could not hear what was said and I belive I left blank lines for any MD name listed.
It might have been something else, like maybe you did not hyphenate (5-cm incision), or maybe it was a wrong medical word.
No one ever tells you what you did wrong. Maybe you could e-mail them back and find out what it was. Just tell them you would like to learn from your mistakes so that you could re-apply in the future.
You beat me to the punch. - nm
hehehe
I think you are both saying the same thing. Why beat each other up? nm
nm
Wow. That's really beat. There's a butt for
.
SHOULD HAVE BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME...SM
Sounded like a backstabbing, dirty trick to play. But if you had known (and the NEXT time they ask you for a list of worst dictators) you will know what to do...thanks for the tip for the rest of us: Just do a turnabout and give them a list of your BEST one...they'll send the worst to India!!! Kind of like switching drinks with someone who's spiking your drink when they're not looking (LOL)
BEAT FEET!
I agree with everyone. If this is an example of how they treat you in the beginning, just think of what it will be like after a few months!
IMO, TT is hard to beat
Nice people, including the nicest QA people I've ever encountered, low-key, let the MTs do their work without micromanagement, great communication, and a really generous bonus plan.
The account I'm on is on Escription but they have other platforms, too. I love my account and actually look forward to working every day.
I haven't been there very long, but I just can't say anything negative at all.
TT pretty much is the best I've worked for.
You are right. It is hard to beat the experience of having someone sm
right there to listen for you. I worked in a department where there were ladies with 20+ years of experience. It was amazing to me that they could listen once and knew what it was. Unfortunately, not many places offer inhouse training programs anymore, and even when offered, it seems that most people want to start working at home immediately. I have tried to mentor people by having them call me and play the dictation over the phone, but it is still not the same.
Nice to meet a fellow TTer
Not to beat the break thing
to death, but I just read the responses to my question about the lunch/breaks and think I might have been misunderstood.
It is line-based pay (not hourly). I don't expect to be paid for lunch (that is voided out like other jobs). We work the extra time to have the lunch so doesn't affect our line count
It just seems like if workers are legally supposed to have 2, 15-minute breaks during an 8 hour shift but line count is based on 8 hours, then it's sort of like we really don't get the breaks (like if in an hourly-wage job, people got pay deducted if they took their breaks).
Am I making any more sense wording it this way?
New accts. Can I beat myself with a stick now? A-G-G-H
nm
Oh yeah...I can beat that one...How about the IT guy who tells who...
that the company has massively overhired on the account that you were just hired for. Hmm...could that be the reason why I have no money to buy my kids any Christmas gifts this year???!!! 9 months to go and I will never go near this transcription bullcrap ever again!!! This is my last Christmas ever again that I can't buy my kids any Christmas gifts!!!
I have worked at MQ before and I would say that HIS has them beat when it comes to playing dirty!!
nm
Trying to beat the mass exodus. May be hard to
Not a chance in the world. Why would I let the company get beat up again sm
when it has been quiet for the past few weeks?
I be wlling to bett you my $200,000+ house here in Georgia will beat
anything like that in California. I watch HGTV and cannot believe what kind of crappy looking homes you get there for a price that is so over the top. I have a stand alone 4 bedroom, 4 bath, stucco house with over 600 square feet great room and a huge fireplace. I was in Sacremento about 2 years ago and what gives with the homes connecting onto 1 another? That was really strange for me. We live in Georgia also and with his salary and mine we have gone to the $90,000 salary per year. I would take my home here any ole day than what is offered there for 4 or 5 times the price of mine.
I think I beat the dictators on that made-up term -- deductionable ! Oops ! nm

I'd do it in a heartbeat. You'll never beat a hospital's benefits or job security.
I like the idea of going to my job every day, doing it well, and being done with it. You are not penalized pay-wise if you dont happen to meet your line count and the incentives are nice. I'd say jump from that sinking ship and jump aboard job security.
If you timed in for WEbinar let them know so they can take it off time card. Doesn't that beat a
.
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm
x
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?
Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm

Correction - TH has 5 PTO days 1st year/10 days 2nd yr

Axolotl within 30 days. Transolutions in 60 days. NM

It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
90 days is correct. 3 days off 1st year, 10 during 2nd.
nm
I know how to figure it,
how do you qualify for it? The account I work on never offers that, the most they offer is an additional 0.05 per line when they are behind.
Let's figure this out. sm
I am currently working for 10.5 cents per line, equipment furnished, and I get two weeks PTO per year, plus health insurance for $21.00 a payday and that insurance includes health/dental/vision/life, and direct deposit. Compare that to FN, no insurance, no bennies, no direct deposit and, at most, 10 cents per line. There are several small MTSOs out there who provide benefits and pay as I am describing here. Why in the world would you work for a company who provides no benefits at all, not even direct deposit, for 10 cents a line? I just don't get it.
I don't think anybody has been able to figure that out yet
You'll find a few people posting that it didn't affect their line count, but the majority of posters did lose big going to the platform.
Nothing to figure out, really. sm
They no longer pay for demographic info, headers (client letterhead), footers (signature line and DD/DT block/initials), CCs, etc. Add that all up times each page and that is a lot of lost lines, possibly hundreds of lines per day.
GO FIGURE!!! That is what is
what is wrong with our society, no one wants responsibility for there own actions. If you screwed up, and I know for a fact that some of you were not doing your work, because i am the MT that turned you in, then take responsibilty for your screw up. Quit blaming everyone at Shapin for your laziness. And now that your gone, I have your job and I absolutely love it. So I guess I owe you a thank you.
Not sure how you figure that one
Never heard this one before - trying to convert minutes to lines!
.9/line is not a bad rate, depending of course on the specifics of the work (type, difficulty of dictators, TAT, etc.
200 minutes could actually be very few lines if the dictator is a pauser... or a lot of work if they dictate like Robin Williams talks...
Ask for more details.
How do you figure your cpl?
How do you figure your cpl for editing? I don't get it.
D&L - go figure
Poor them, to hear them tell it, every body is lying on them and telling stories. I do not understand how they have Transcriptionist working for them. I have not heard a one that has gotten a check on time and one that they know will clear. Living from paycheck to paycheck and fearing a bounced check would scare me off for sure. Yes they have client's - they do not know what is going on - but I say let the owners type the reports, for sure the clients would not last a week with her skills. Everybody complains, but they remain there - can I just ask why - i would rather work for less than work and worry about a check.
here's the way I figure it
Okay, so 45 minutes of dictation equal 2700 seconds, say 1 hour per 1000-1200 seconds on average typing between 150 to 200 lph, counting referencing time and proofing time, I would say about 2-2-1/2 hours average of actual transcribing time.
It would seem that if you can't figure sm
out correctly how to calculate $25 an hour, you're not going to be able to reach that.
how do you figure that? If i'm doing less
the company makes less off of me as well.
Cheating out of money would more likely come from charging the client by the line and paying the Transcriptionist per report, among other ways.
Hon, if you can't figure out how to
do that, you need to work on your computer skills - LOL.
I figure...
...NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! I would assume that I am doing such a good job that they have no reason to contact me.
how do you figure that?
Just curious
what I can't figure out is why any sm
interviewer/supervisor/owner or whatever would even tell that story to an employee much less a new-hire. I sometimes wonder if folks just do that to make themselves sound important. Personally I could not care less what goes on with other employees. I do my work, do it well and expect a paycheck. If that doesn't happen, then I am outta there.
you can figure that one out. Just figure sm
out what you make working at home and the number of hours your put in to make it. Compare that with the hourly wage in a facility. Most facilities still pay hourly and some have incentive plans.
I figure around
30-35% for all taxes.. For myself, I figure I'm saving gas, clothes, time, and car repairs by being an IC at home.
Trying to figure out why you would come here with those problems.
