I do understand your position. We live in a Wal-Mart world. Some days I wonder why I bother

And, what world do you live in?
that pays for downtime.
identify theft - not sure what world you live in
but they can steal your identify with resume information - all they need is name address and telephone number. With past employers, one phone call gets them anything else they need. It is the same information on an envelope they get out of your garbage can, or on a prescription bottle. We do not need to be paranoid - but you need to be realistic too.
doesn't even buy you a cup of coffee these days...don't bother.

What world do you guys live in where you EXPECT GIFTS? SM
people are unemployed all over this country. Count your blessings.
Does anybody live near Trenton, NJ? If so a hospital position 40 hr week is available...sm
This requires a quick response on your part, because there are two positions open and I don't want to post this on the job seeker's board. The ft position is hospital transcription, hourly wage, all bennies and PTO and holidays. The other position is team leader for the MT department, directing work flow and working with staff. People are now interviewing, but wanted to give a chance. email me if you want to, because I will not name this on post. Thanks
I can understand your position.
Try to remember these ideas, too:
1. The happy employees are not interested in dwelling where there is negativity or being part, usually, of a community like this. They are happy with their jobs and go on about their day when they are not working.
2. Those who do enjoy chatting and messaging (and are happy with their jobs/experiences) may have no clue about this website.
You really have no clue what size of a population you are missing.
It is one thing for posters to give generic don't do it, run, etc., messages. It is quite another for them to be specific.
Ask the negative posters to be specific: What made them feel this way -- again, look for specifics such as:
-- my check was never on time
-- my check was never correct
-- I felt lied to because....
-- I was held to different standards than others ...
-- I did not have enough work (ask why- who they let know, the results, etc.)
Finally remember this ... one man's trash is another man's treasure. You may find the entire experience just what you need!
Wish you well.
I think what she is saying is that if mgmt were paid by the line, they would understand our position
When you depend on your paycheck to pay the bills and it varies from week to week, it can really cost you if there is no work or low work volumes.
I DO understand. "Who" said 3 days though sm
The ad did not say that. If I had to take it, I would keep looking, and consider temporary for sure.
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.
That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.
OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.
I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.
Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
I don't know where you live but where I live foreclosures are rising and there are no jobs -- non
I worried about my employer for part of the winter as my accounts grew sparse. I had plan to switch to being an employee with benefits but dared not make the switch in this economy (this was last year this time, got it?)
I figured keeping my seniority was worth whatever security it afforded.
My accounts have rebounded some and I can pay my bills.
By economizing seriously, I have paid off my credit card and put some money aside, just in case. I'm breathing easier, thanks.
So, all in all, I'm not complaining. This last winter was brutal, but I had a job and I paid my bills. When employment rebounds and/or national health goes into effect, people will go to the doctor again and we will be busy.
My part of the world is like a ghost town -- everyone who could left to find work in the city -- many apparently leaving their homes to the banks. Several houses in my vicinity have been on the market more than 4 years.
Forgive me my loyalty ... it pays the bills.
What does yelling at the rest of us do for you?
better off at Wal-mart
You would be better off supplementing your income working at Wal-Mart rather than working at this Indian-run loony bin.
Do they have Wal-Mart's in Kansas?
.
And, you can also add Wal-Mart to your list
I think stores such as Wal-Mart, and there certainly are others, no doubt, that buy up the majority of their products from these other countries are putting our Americans out of work. I just shudder to think how different life is in this century compared to before we went to being such a huge importer of goods that we COULD be producing here in the US.
If you put in an application at Wal-Mart does it not ask for your SS#? sm
If you did not feel comfortable giving that info until hired, all you simply had to do was leave it blank. I am sure they would not have tossed your application due to that.
make more money at Wal-Mart
and they give you a piece of the company
lol
I recently saw a show on TV about Wal-Mart, sm
It was one of those news shows, maybe 20/20. Whatever. It talked about Rubbermaid going down the tubes because of W-M's demands on it, how generations of families worked at one particular factory which essentially supported the town. That was closed, equipment was auctioned off. I'll never forget the expressions on the faces of the men who were watching this happening. It was tragic.
Sorry, this is badly worded, but I need to get back to work.

Wal-Mart Sounds Good
Wal-Mart is starting to look better and better to me. I have been an excellent Transcriptionist for over 25 years and had planned to retire as same. The past couple of years has caused me to re-think the rest of my life. I have gone from an average of $23.00 per hour to $16.00 per hour and it makes me nauseous. The suits are getting the money that I am having to work even harder to get (for them).
So, I'm thinking about going to Wal-Mart. My mother will retire from them soon and she, believe it or not, has had a lot less stress than I have had in the past few years. I think she makes about $14.00 per hour at this point. I'm sure that starting out, you probably do not make that much, but I think that if I have to work for less money, I would rather it be for someone who didn't TAKE MY MONEY. Anybody agree????
So we threaten to go to Wal-Mart to work?

If things keep going, you may do so unknowingly!
They are taking the first steps...
What is wrong with working at Wal-Mart.
My mother has worked at Wal-Mart for almost 10 years. Why does everyone act like working at Wal-Mart is for losers? Only desperate people who have no other choice work there?
Nope, not Wal-Mart employees sm
(even though, what's wrong with that) just busy mothers who have better and more important things to do than proofread on a forum, we save that for our jobs. Now back to doing the most important job...being a mother...now babs get back to your griping. Sorry you don't have a family. Hope you have a nice Easter :)
Yes I work at TT, Wal-Mart & a vet's office
Three jobs. Wasn't too hard to get. I like TT and hope that work will pick up with the new accounts but in the meantime yes I have to feed my kids and me.
Wearing clothes from Wal-Mart...
How is that equal to creating medical records with gross errors? My problem is not entirely with offshoring, but rather what is being offshored. Like many others, I do not shop at Wal-Mart, and I have my own sewing machine. If people want to buy things that are made overseas, that's their choice, but my concern is regarding the quality of our medical documentation here in the US. Also, there is no excuse for supposedly not being able to find an adequate amount of MT staff here in the US. The problem is that these companies do not want to pay enough to that staff. If the hospitals cut out the MTSOs and brought MT back in-house, there would be enough money to go around for everyone.
I should say SHOPS at Wal-Mart --- Even Starbucks gets their coffee elsewhere!

Which speaks to/with the wal-mart spoof posted
in the comedy section (link below). It's the direction of the economy. Capitalism at its best and worst; inevitability.

A quick word of explanation about Wal-Mart
My friend worked in the division that made, organized jewelry, etc. She was not a clerk. She worked behind the scenes. I guess the suits thought that behind the scenes in Mexico was cheaper for them than to pay American workers. Anyway, my friend, a 21-years-old single mother, is now without work.
The DQS is an IC position and the Dictaphone EXtext is an employee position....
both part time...both making 9.5 cents per line...which is better IC or employee?
Thanks :)
Thank you!! And if anyone on this website gripes about "offshoring" and works at Wal-Mart, you
just as much to blame as anyone hiring offshore companies. You shop there to get cheaper prices? 95% of that is made in China!
Quik-Mart doesn't require testing ...
Many MTs that I know put quite a bit of time into researching companies. Believe it or not, there are a few out there that are unscrupulous. Then, when they decide to submit their resume, they become one of the stack received and left on a recruiter's desk, only to be sent a generic thank you for applying, please test letter. Then, they're on to the testing process. Sometimes it's a screening during which you give out a lot of personal information, then a written test, then transcription, sometimes followed by a phone interview (and this is probably the only time you are looked at as a person and not just data)- you get the idea. This eats up a lot of time and energy. I don't have any first-hand knowledge about Quick-Mart, Starbuck's or the Department of Energy, but I think things work a little differently in those settings. I hope this helps you understand why it would be important to get a response for the effort. If not, well, I tried.
What world is that? Wally World?
nm
It depends on where you live. If you live in their
service area it would be cheaper than outside their service area. I only have rates for out of service area and medical is 139.13 for family or 168.42 depending on what plan you choose. Dental is 20.85 for family, vision is 5.13. These are per pay period.
Individual coverage would be 44.79/54.21 medical, 7.99 dental, and 1.71 vision.
I opted out of insurance as we have through my husband's job. I believe the cheaper insurance is a 70/30 plan and the more expensive an 80/20, not sure about co-pays. Deductibles are $2000 for family, not sure about individual.
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
I'm hoping too as I accepted position a position also nm

Isn't Wal-Mart the company that lied/replaced labels several years back with Made in USA? nm

Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?
Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm

It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
90 days is correct. 3 days off 1st year, 10 during 2nd.

Would it bother you as much....sm
if the AAMT meeting had been held in Detroit or Cleveland or some other place that was not as, shall we say, vacation like?
The management of MW (and any other company for that matter) who went to the AAMT meeting did so as a part of their job. Their job is to watch the industry, make contacts and interact with other companies in the industry to try to better our working conditions and further our ability to do our jobs, just as our job is to transcribe and edit reports and learn all we can to improve ourselves and the work we do. Whether you like it or not, there is a separation between MTs and management and a separation between what we do and what they do. Don't like it? You have a couple of options here. You can work on improving yourself and making a name for yourself with your company as a trustworthy and valuable employee and rise to the ranks of management and then have the opportunity to be sent to the AAMT meetings or you can work hard, put some money aside, join AAMT and go on your own.....or you could just continue to sit there and bellyache about it. The choice is yours. The meeting next year is to be held in Queensland on Australia's Gold Coast. Better start saving up now.
TRS - don't bother
I talked with the recruiter in October and he could not explain their pay rate and/or guide that is used. It is very confusing and they have a very difficult time keeping people.
Don't bother with them.
They're trouble.
Don't take the job if you think it will bother you
I hated working for them just for that reason.
Don't bother!
I did not like that company whatsoever. Office manager was not nice.
Don't bother!
This company is a nightmare. I live in New Jersey. Constant turnover. Horrible management. They advertise over and over again. That should tell you something about them. They cannot keep somebody for more than a week. Do not even waste your time with this place! You will be sorry!
why bother
Some companies think that just because you have those 3 little letters behind your name you know more than any other MT. This is far from true, it only means those people paid the outrageous price to test and passed the test. I started a part-time job over 2 years ago and the company refused to pay me what I was actually worth because I didnt have CMT behind my name. Even though I have 18+ years' experience as a Transcriptionist and Editor they refused to pay me the 2 dollars more an hour that the CMTs were getting. So I did the same work and somebody with less experience but with the CMT got more money than me. Needless to say I have since left that company.
Why do they bother?
I was contacted by a company to work for them. I told them exactly the days I could work and how much I was willing to work. When they sent work for the weekend, I explained to them that I do not work weekends. Well, I did not hear from them again. Tried contacting them Monday. Tried sign on Monday and was locked out. Did not get a email until Tuesday afternoon stating my quality was just not good enough. I've been at this for 15 years!
Don't bother...
Maybe I'm just not what she's looking for, but she emailed me back and said the positions were filled.
If they were, that was pretty fast!
