When I did landmark it was only interviews for market research, not really indepth MT stuff. But it was experience with software and recordings and such. It was fun and I didn't expect to get much.
When I work on odesk I charge $0.50 per audio minute for business and webinars and interviews. When it gets more indepth and specialized - like medical and legal - I charge $1.00 per audio minute. I'm shocked, at times, to hear people say that is too much...but in relation $1/minute is about $0.05 per line!! I'm undercharging and it is still too much. That is how I know they are a small MT company that is looking for someone to fill their workload - they get to keep about half of what they are paid and still get someone to do their work. I try to avoid those if I can :)
Everything is outsourcing and it is scary at how bad the outcomes are. The one position I know I am already qualified for but isn't very popular yet, is VR type work. Just plug the audio into dragonspeak software and then correct the problems. odesk is looking for a lot of this type of work. I agree with others here, though, that VR pay is so bad and the quality so poor that it really isn't worth the time. I think companies will eventually pay better but it is a struggle and a wait. The problem is as VR becomes more popular MT's will be phased out completely!!
