holidays do tend to reduce work loads.
When the account i was given had shortage of work, i asked for and received another account. I almost never have a shortage of work now.
Really sad where people will readily list places they hated but not name places that are great.
What a wonderful, sharing group of people MTs are. :-(
Don't expect someone to do the work for you
looking for a company isn't THAT hard. You do the research, have interviews, weigh pros and cons. Be self-reliant and stop whining *oh, no one wants to help me*. IMO
places to work
Hey, just a shout out to all. Of these companies who are the best to work for. Transolutions, Webmedx, Axolotl or DSG. Anything you have to say about line rate, benefits and equipment provided would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Do any of these places have enough work any more?
Seems like all of the big companies are low on work any more. What gives? How are we supposed to make a living?
Do you work for these 2 places?
I feel ya...ESLs slow me way down once in awhile too!
How much can I expect to make the first year of MT work, around $20,000?
or more
I don't work at Amphion but it's amazing that they expect
nm
Not fair, but sadly how most places work
nm
I didn't complain, but got something from both the places I work sm
My PT job gave me a $30 gift card to target. My FT gave me $25 AMEX gift check. Both were sent in Christmas cards and both cards had been signed by everyone in the office.
No...not lots, but then I don't need lots. I really loved that ANYTHING was sent and the signed cards were a very nice touch.
They are okay to work for, but do not expect a big incentive. Their scale is about average.
The biggest issue right now is trying to get e-mails answered on a regular basis. You better like to work alone without much feedback or interaction because that is how it will be.
Loyalty to Companies Who Have No Work and Expect a Schedule from YOU
There have been many discussions about MT's sitting around waiting for work to file into their queues.. many being told to get more than a few accounts and work on their backups (which, we all know, is someone's primary account) when their primary is out of work.. so we go 'round in circles.
Then we have discussions about companies putting us in work pools as opposed to assigning us work daily...
I have been sitting here thinking, if I were a painter, wanted to paint fences, and I showed up with my brush and paint bright and early in the morning, and was told to come back tomorrow, the fence has already been painted, but there will be another fence ready to paint tomorrow, please come back, we want you to paint our fences.. I say, OK, I understand, and so I come back tomorrow and when I get there I see that half of the fence has been painted already, someone came before me and painted it, even though I was promised the work of painting the fence. They say, try again tomorrow. How many days would you show up to paint a fence? Every day? Don't you (eventually) feel like an idiot standing there with your brush and paint with nothing to do??
Does the company owe you any loyalty at all?? If they don't want your services, why don't they just say so instead of keeping you coming back ready to paint every day? Then when it DOES get busy, they call and say WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? DONT YOU CARE ABOUT PAINTING THE FENCE? Like we havent been standing there with our brushes all week waiting to paint.
What I don't understand is the lack of shame from the people who behave this way. Once in a while things happen..NOT AS A MATTER OF BUSINESS.
I really don't understand the logic of the people who have no problem with this. You do understand that by doing this, you are simply helping these companies to continue in this fashion, not feeling that they owe you ANYTHING.
Overhiring is really the finaly insult. If you don't see that.. you are closing your eyes.
And expect to work long hours but somehow you only make peanuts.
I suspect that they must not pay for spaces, headers, etc.. as you can work all day and somehow you barely have any lines. I smell a rat.. very suspicious to me that you could work so hard and it just never adds up.
Sounds like several places I've been with! They can tweak the distribution of work any way they
s
You wont make any money with them. Expect to get ripped out. The hospital they do work for should...
be ashamed to sent their work to Indian companies like treat their employees like crap. You can bet the hospital pays full price, but once the MTs get their part, it is minimal. Dont go there!!
If there's enough work and you work as an IC, many places will let you log in and do as much as y

"hand holding"
No.....hand holding I don't need...nor do I need EXPERIENCE...I have been doing this for 20 years...so think about it!!...I am talking about little things that add up that they have NOT TRANSMITTED to you....a physician list for letters that were not given to and I had to look up every address......(oh we are working on getting a list)....pfffff....also had NO CLUE...where these physicians were and trying to find out where and why? Experience I have...just that I am not a yellow pages directory and they had very POOR COMMUNICATION...I was trying to be polite but since YOU ARE NOT.......I will lay it out....they are a TERRIBLE organization to work for....Also....try to put everything in microsoft word and then transmit, etc......lots of BS to put up with. And waiting for work...NOT KNOWING if you have work in your q....waiting for them to let you know if there is work......but yet you had to have it done @ THEIR convience even if it meant missing dinner with the family because I FORGOT to put it in your q....puuuhhhlllease!
The company is getting by on yanking peoples chains and empty promises.
How are the DRC/Acusis MTs holding up? Are you
s
Wow! How are your hands still holding out
typing that much for that many years! After 10 years, my hands are killing me after half a day. I used to be able to do that much, but it hurts too much now.
Really? Your STM should be holding these at least monthly
I would check with your STM to find out when he/she holds her team conference calls.
Anyone holding out on PC check at the A? nm
nm
I am not holding out hope - already looking elsewhere
The new accounts aren't coming, several current ones are leaving, and layoffs have started, even in QA. They hired in anticipation of the new accounts, so now they have those MTs plus the MTs from the accounts leaving to redistribute into the already shrinking workload. It does seem like this is a situation being experienced not just at the Web, but that doesn't help us pay our bills. I think we need to find a company on the upswing.
Tend to agree.
Their platform is not very user friendly. They do pay on time though and their line rate was pretty fair. They switched the original agreed upon schedule on me since there was no work on one particular day that I was scheduled, but if you are flexible, that might not bother you. Good luck.
Thanks! I think I tend to be fair
and what this and other MTSOs are not realizing is that much if not all critism here is not meant as an UNfair attack. It's a vent board for one thing. :)
What galls me are the MTSOs who won't discuss the problems *before* you quit, much less take responsibility for true problems, but then want to protest when they see negatives posted...
There's an old saying about a shoe and what to do if it fits...
:)
tend to agree
No company is perfect. Been at Transcend since August, and they have been fair to me and I do have plenty of work and I do work on a cardiology account exclusively.
Tend to agree with you on the
micromanage bit and flexing time. Sometimes have to check your computer for 24 hours straight to find enough work.
I tend to agree with you. nm
nm
I tend to agree
It is great to work at home and take care of you kids....I do. But that is NOT why I got into MT. That is a problem nowadays...people only get into MT to work at home and/or take care of their kids. Not everyone is cut out for MT and it is showing with this type of mentality and the quality that comes along :(
I tend to agree, especially
Since we are not employees but are independently contracted. Technically I would think that makes a huge difference. I'm sure the referred to lists are management, technical support, things like that. I would assume as ICs we fall into a separate category.
I'm sure there's another list with the names of the MTs dealt with in another section of this deal, that our contracts are in effect until January 2010 and then it's up to Transcend to keep us or can us at their discretion.
Heartlanders: A week later.. how are we holding up? sm
I don't know about everyone else, but the shock hasn't worn off yet and I'm still in disbelief. I've had the worst week of my life trying to figure out how I am going to survive, especially after seeing those COBRA rates - no favor to us!
What's holding you back is your address -
If you'd called them from Bangalore, you'd probably have gotten responses to every single application.
I agree, I think we all tend to be brainwashed
into thinking we are worth nothing and the Nationals CEOs, etc., deserve vacation homes, limosines, high priced cars, etc, and we deserve no raises, decreased rates as soon as they put their minds on how to do it. I have had personally a decrease every year, but my rent goes up, utilities, groceries. Even a good platform doesn't matter if the managers cream the good dictation for their quotas and leave junk for the rest of us. You can't tell me every hospital in America is 90% ESL, and bad ones at that, yet that is what they tell us. They do it because they can!
Ah, yes..... as so many things on this board tend to do!
Maybe we should start a new, underground-ish, no-holds barred MT site where a person can speak their mind without fear of erasure!
TTer's tend to get a bit bent when they

If there is a person holding each end of the pole, does that make them
:P
Good advice! I was holding a grudge
I realized that while I was angry and at home all the time with a grudge, my friend was out dancing and going on with her life. I was the one caught in a trap. Be above all that, forgive, turn the page and go on.
Dear SM thank U for not holding your tongue any longer
You don't even know what you are talking about. They had no choice but to be open about offshoring after the best QA manager EVER got fired for accidentally forwarding an email from India.
If they had nothing to hide she should have never been fired in the first place.
Trust me you are much better off not taking the OSi job.
At least 20 or 25 of us left that place specifically because of what they did to her.
That was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG Never looked back
try holding cntr down and using mouse scroll.

Not to sound paranoid, but I tend to agree.
They control the work pools and can make your day as easy or as hard as they like. Before I asked why I was being switched around all the time, the line count was at least achievable. Afterwards, perhaps as my punishment, it became even worse. All different account specifics, all parts of the country, thousands of different doctors. Finally gave up. I took my 6 years of acute care and went somewhere else.
I tend to agree. Seems to have a short fuse. sm
Another reason to be happy I'm working at home -- no explosions from bosses OR co-workers to endure.
Only time I tend to run out is last weekend of payperiod when OT has been (sm)
authorized starting on Friday. Not too worried, looks like they are hiring more. Makes me think they are anticipating a new account and want to get people on and trained and ready.
This company is too good for me to give up on.
No hand-holding here at all. Experienced! But truly the WORST ACCTS.
v
Thanks for explaining. I tend to be a bit technically challenged in that area. sm
If I ever get a life, I might give it a try. Somehow a picture of an old woman hunched over her keyboard, listing hobbies as eat, sleep, and work, probably is not newsworthy .. LOL.
Why would anyone be so adamant about holding on to such a crud-ball, crap-paying, loser of a job lik
If this is what it takes to get us off our butts and get a respectable job that pays more than a 16-year-old makes babysitting, so be it. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
I for one am outta here. Good luck!
Ugh - well I did all my work on time and I expect to be paid on time.
The phone company doesn't wait, the cable company doesn't wait, and the electric company doesn't wait for their money either - all of which I need to pay in order to do my job. I work when I am supposed to, I help when behind, and give 110%, and I ask for my check to be on time.
I think if an MTSO is going to have to mail checks they should do so priority to make up for the delay.
I think most places pay for spaces. I work for TransTech and they pay for both spaces
as well as punctuation. I would never work for an MTSO that doesn't.
Why are they hiring when we run out of work every day?
x
I work for TTS and they are hiring.
nm
Why do these placed keep hiring if work is low.
I have been working with OSi for a week, and have already run out of work even though the recruiter told me there was plenty. Talked to a few people online, and everybody says they are always low. I feel manipulated, and I turned down several offers to take this job. I am going to see if any of the offers are still open.
R they hiring where you work?
