I betcha it IS HIPAA regs that rule out wireless

Doctors etc. cannot use cell phones to dictate their reports, right? If this is true, I bet the use of wireless to deliver their dictations to at-home transcriptionists is considered potentially not secure. Well, two modems it is for me and I am really glad I asked this question. Thank you all for your feedback.

There were post on another board about test dictations violating HIPAA regs. sm
Some people seemed to think they were using actual dictations, with actual patient info, in their test dictations. I would leave them alone, way alone.
Might violate HIPAA ... MTs have to sign a HIPAA (nm)
.
This is just HIPAA on steroids. Cant enforce HIPAA

IRS regs for W2s
Actually, this year since January 31 falls on a Saturday, employers have until Feb 2 to provide the W2s to employees.
Furnish copies B, C, and 2 of Form W-2 to your employees, generally, by February 2, 2009. You will meet the furnish requirement if the form is properly addressed and mailed on or before the due date.

Betcha tried though
LOLOL
You betcha
they have no legal recourse here. But that tells me all I know about that company--I would never, EVER apply to them and I bet most other folks with good sense would feel the same.
I betcha
the company gets paid for the template though.
betcha i know who it is!!
I finally did move on, sounds the lady I worked for previously. I feel for you!!
You betcha

I betcha the IRS would investigate
in a heartbeat if someone involved would rat them out.
You betcha it's a scam
and many hospital administrators, HR directors, and heads of large nationals and smaller services know it. Their credential has about as much validity than something that you get out of a Cracker Jack box. Maybe if its officers had been thinking more about working class MTs and less about their own executive (I use the word advisedly here) positions, it would be different, but the AAMT veered off course waaaay back when it was still the AAMT and most people now recognize it for what it is.....or isn't.
You betcha I have job-seeking lately
I just started my second job (one for the insurance, the other for the high cpl it pays) and started my new second job three months ago. And no, I do not get paid like a newbie.
You betcha I care if they have
an association with MQ and India. AMERICAN JOBS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS! Keep the work at home.
I will just betcha that 401k
matching is only for FT employees and from other posts it seems that it can be really hard to make the requisite $900 per pay period, through no fault of your own. This is a classic carrot/stick management technique. Offer 401k matching, insurance, vacation time, pie in the sky, and then make sure nobody ever qualifies for it by manipulating the work pools. Then warn, then demote to PT.
I betcha they'd be tickled to death to get you.
Experience counts for a lot these days.
You betcha some are makin the $4 and some aren't.
nm
Betcha most do (or at least get permission to), and applicants don't

You betcha I have heard of TransAm
It is known as TranSCAM in the industry. I am an old MT from the sixties (will retire in two more years, yay!) and I have comforted more weeping women who have lot money to this scam. If you believe TranSCAM has anything to offer, there is a nice bridge up north of here in San Francisco that I will sell you for fifty bucks. Seriously, my friend, you need a good, decent education. Even with that, I would advise anyone to consider another career. I was lucky to be an MT in its golden age. I now make 50% less than I did in the 90s and I am quite good at what I do. I predict that within five years, the MT industry as we know it will be dead--or all offshored. Good luck to you. If you are determined to become an MT, you need a decent school. I recommend either Andrews or M-TEC. Whatever you do, please, please, please, avoid TranSCAM. These people are parasites.
You betcha - worst schedule on earth it seems.
I've been working weekends for 10 years and seven days a week for 3 years. I'm about ready just to tell the office I'm not doing it anymore - I did my time. If they want to fire me, fine. It's totally ridiculous to be horsewhipped this way. No other profession on earth is forced to work 24/7 the way we are with no days off, no vacation time, nothing ever! - even doctors and nurses get SOME time off, or rotate weekends so they can have some kind of a life. Sheez, even indentured servants and house help in Medieval Europe got one day off every two weeks! SOMETHING to look forward to - some kind of a rest!
So yeah, your message really hit a nerve today:) Believe me, you are not alone. When the heck are we going to organize and stop letting ourselves be bullied by these slavedrivers?
that is either the mtso rate or no middle man at all, betcha-nm
.
Betcha they're located offshore!

HIPAA???
How in the world would you think HIPAA applies here? That is for HEALTH information, not employment information!
HIPAA
fast fingers.
HIPAA
All the Homeland Security stuff you are saying is great, but remember it's HIPAA (not HIPPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
That has nothing to do with HIPAA
HIPAA
The HIPAA agreement will also protect you. I would never work for a company without one. It is illegal. Voice your concerns to your new MTSO and explain to them you will not work until you sign a HIPAA agreement. I am a service owner and no one works for my company without one!
Its HIPAA.
NM
It is actually HIPPA, and not HIPAA
The contract I signed stated that I could hire assistants at my own expense. My husband is a great techie and also can lend a listening ear. I do not agree with your post. JMO.
The myth of HIPAA
I'm not sure why we put so much faith in HIPAA even at home. This is a Federal statute that relies on Department of Justice prosecutions. That would be the office of the US attorney for your area. Check this out to see just how seriously it is being taken and who is getting prosecuted for what:

The myth of HIPAA
I posted this below, but I'll move it up here since HIPAA seems to be the neverending mantra.

Would this be a HIPAA violation?
Supervisor went away for a week, so her husband (not an employee), sent out the work assignments for our accounts. I thought computers had to be secure from access by others, including family.
I would think there would HIPAA issues with that.

Question about W9 and HIPAA
I was recently offered an IC position and was supposed to have started already (some on the account have - my computer crashed). This MTSO is hounding me but never gave me a W9 or HIPAA agreement to sign? Is this legal? Any thoughts on this?
Not saying this is the rule, but (sm)
It could be a regional thing. I used to do a lot of accounts in S FL and it was pretty ESL-intensive. I then did some N FL accounts and it was the opposite, but believe it or not, the dictators were MUCH worse.
Regions of California, Florida, Texas, and NY probably have more ESLs than other states. I could be wrong on this and probably a gross generalization, but I'm only speaking from experience.
Wireless
Does anyone have wireless internet service or know anything about it such as how it works, price, etc?
wireless
You can use wireless with your company? I thought most companies did not allow it. Do a lot of people use wireless now?
Thanks!
My new rule
With rare exception, I don't do any test without the courtesy of verbal communication in advance with the company advertising. If they can't or won't even speak to you via phone to answer a few simple questions, how do you know if you even want the job?
I don't have *any* problem testing, but if the management can't or won't even speak to you first, it can be a sign of under-staffing/poor organization.
Wireless
If at all possible, I would avoid the wireless; it will be slower and not as reliable as a wired connection. You might want to make sure you are set up where there will be no interference between you and the router. You might want to call your internet service provider to guide you also. Overall, the best thing would be to use wired.
Wireless is NOT okay.
You must have cable or DSL.
WHAT ABOUT WIRELESS DSL?
I have a wireless setup at home, but it is still DSL, and it works great. There is a big difference here between wireless in an airplane, hotel room, coffee shop, etc., vs wireless at home.
Wireless
When you are referring to your post, are you referring to using a wireless router or an air card -- if it is regarding an air card, I would suggest searching the archives as there are several posts regarding an air card from Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, etc.
wireless
I have wireless high-speed broadband. TT said it is not compatible. Live rural and have no choice.
wireless
Thanks for the info! This forum is great for getting answers.
Wireless
Thanks for the information! Appreciate feedback
USB or Wireless?
Any experienced MTs have insight on whether to go wireless or stick with the 'ol USB/wired connection for a keyboard/mouse set? I need to turn over my current wireless set as it is too tempermental but not sure which way to go. I love no wires but am not convinced wireless can keep up/is dependable to match every key stroke. If anyone is using a wireless set, what would you recommend? Thanks for any advice.
HIPAA Stops the the border

I stand corrected. It is HIPAA
also s/b HIPAA(hyphen)compliant

You signed nothing? Not even a HIPAA agreement? I would think she sm
would be in hot water over that. Generally, you sign the HIPAA agreement and the contract at the same time. DId you talk about pay at all and make a verbal contract?
I agree with everyone else. Until some sort of pay is establishied, I wouldn't work anymore, PLUS, not sure I would want to work there anyway with all of the phone calls and drama that you described. It sounds like you would be signing up for a duty in Hell.
I'm sorry you have gone through all of this. Good luck to you.
I'm sorry to ask this because I should know the answer but what does HIPAA say about our medical
going to foreign soil? I'm sure our info is SUPPOSED to be protected, but is there anything that makes this even at least questionable? I'd be livid of my info going to another country regardless of what my profession is!
