I have a 9-year-old son, 2-year-old daughter, 4-month-puppy and a husband in the background so thank goodness I am good at focusing...otherwise, I would be in trouble...lol..but your right, most of us work at home to be there for our children so we do what we need to do...

Keystrokes Radiology, new kid on the block
Hello to my fellow Keystrokes Radiology Transcriptionists! I just got hired by Keystrokes and really feel that I got blessed to have gotten on with this company although I have no misgivings about the hard work that lies ahead. I will begin training next week. I do have long-term experience which is hospital and clinic based, but I am sure that there are many tricks of the trade that at-home transcriptionists use to build speed that I am not familiar with. I received a "Boomerang and Trans/Net USB Foot Control Adapter" from Keystrokes. If you are familiar with this equipment, can you tell me a little bit about it, and in addition, which shorthand or shortcut speed typing software will work with this equipment. I would love your advice and guidance with respect to how I can set myself up in the best way possible to "keep up with the big boys!" Some day, I'll be there for "the new kid" just as I am asking for your assistance now. I have a full office set up, but have yet to purchase the necessary software I'll need to make my job run more efficiently. I also have a library of medical books, but rather than list them, if you would let me know of any absolute necessities you think I should have on my book shelf, I'd really appreciate your letting me know. I thank you in advance for your helpful hints. Jayne, from Port Townsend, Washington. P.S. Do I even need to purchase a shorthand software program? Perhaps Keystrokes provides that? I'll be getting installed the first part of next week. Thanks again!
Background noise occasionally very bad ...
I am one who started in the beginning with this Sept/Oct -start account. Does anybody else have certain files that have an unusual level of background noise? I can tell that many of their dictation stations are right there at the busy nursing desks, but now and then I have one where the background noise (voices) is louder than the dictator. Do you think it's possible the stations have a conference setting, and some of the stations have that chosen instead of the proper dictation setting? You know, like the portable tape recorders had. Possible? Somebody in a discussion below mentioned the importance of a good sound card, but I would think it would be all the time rather than now and then if it were a sound card issue.

Tell me about it! My chip grew into a block and the
disappearing. I don't know how some folks make it at all, medical bills, kids, and our ever-present little buddy NJA.
You can uninstall SP3 and then block the download sm
The removal part is under the same section of the control panel where you uninstall programs. I think you have to click something at the top that says to show updates, then scroll through to find the update. I could not connect to the VPN my company uses when I downloaded SP3 and had to uninstall it. I also downloaded a tool from Microsoft that blocks the auto-update feature for SP3 for a year. If MS is offering a tool to block it, then you know there have to be problems with it. Here's the link if anyone wants it.

So not true! It's a way to control noise. Goodness.
And how many addresses & names you look at, your kids, lawnmower noise, etc. nm

Agree with this. And bring in your own noise-cancelling phones so you don't have to hear her. nm

Has anyone ever noticed how DQS picks up noise terribly in the background. Doesnt make my life any
easier trying to hear the dictator.
