No one is trying to steal work from other shifts, we are just trying to do our jobs. Obviously it is not our preference to work outside our hours but we all do what we have to do to make this work for right now.
Hopefully new accounts are in place now and things will level out.

Any bigger companies out there that do 10+ hours flex time?
I'm looking for a job to supplement my income on top of my full-time MT job, but really need one that allows me to log on at any time throughout the week and do, say, 2,000 lines a week or 10 hours a week or something like that.
Are there any companies out there that still offer this or is it too much to hope for? Anyone have a company they would like to recommend? Thanks.

Not sure about the 40 hours for full-time, but 11,000 lines per pay sm
period are required. I think right now they are hiring for Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday. You decide which shift/hours you want to work, and I tihnk they will allow you to do a split shift if you prefer. There is some flexibility in that you can let them know any changes you need to make, but generally you are expected to work the hours you commit to working.
The platform is ExText, which is Word-based and very easy to use. The insurance is very affordable, I think. You have a choice between Aetna or Coventry, and then 3 choices as far as coverage -- ultimate, choice, and standard. I have choice coverage with Coventry (single plan), and I think it is around $70 per pay period for medical, dental, and vision, with a $750 deductible, $15 copay for office visits.

Can you get "full-time" lines in 24 to 32 hours?
My company didn't ask me how many hours I planned to work, they asked me how many lines I planned to do. I can do full-time lines in part-time hours and that's all they care about.
The good companies are out there. Don't give up.
Now you can not make your lines in 9 hours! More time for 2nd Job.

Full time with Transtech is both. 40 hours per week and 5500 lines per week.

a window doesn't mean working less than say 7 to 8 hours a day, sm
it means breaking up your shift over a 12-hour period or whatever period the company offers.
flex time
Sometimes when it is slow in the morning, I e-mail the office and flex my hours to work a few hours in the evening depending on what my plans are. I have found the work ALWAYS picks up later in the afternoon. I know this doesn't work for everybody, but I always manage to get more than my minimum by being flexible when I can be.

Flex time as we once knew it no longer exists at the co I work for. The only time flex time comes into play is when you've had OT earlier in the week and on Friday you are asked to flex off your OT hours...sign out early so they don't have to pay you OT. I do sometimes. I picked a set schedule with my company for a reason, and I have a life outside of medical transcription. I don't think companies get that sometimes.

If you have been in this business any length of time, you should know how work volumes fluctuate, especially around the holidays.
Does Medquist's part time flex
allow you to work any hours you want or are you tied to a schedule? I am thinking of applying for extra money. I am a little leery of the pool, but thought I might try it if need be. I know many people don't like MQ based on what I read on this board, but think there must still be something decent about them since so many people still do work there. if you don't need the benefits, i recommend part-time flex...
Part time flex requires 2,000 lines per week minimum, but you can do more if you like. You need to submit a schedule, but some production supervisors are flexible...mine is very flexible.
They do not provide equipment. Platform is DocQScribe and is great.
I have been with MQ for about 7 years, and they have been very good to me. I have great accounts but low work volume on them. Always seem to be overstaffed on my accounts, but that is why I have a backup with another company.

There is nothing to like about MQ at this point in time. So many people work there because the company needs people but the turnover of people is pretty significant. Be very leery of the pool. It is murky and will not allow you to make money because in that pool are thousands of client profiles you must read to see how to format the report before you can even begin to transcribe and make money. After you read this client profile, you may not see the client again for weeks which was a waste of your time. The speech recognition program is the worst requiring many corrections at a reduced rate of transcribed reports. No one can make real money with the disadvantages MQ gives you to worQ with.

Why would they give you a choice of 16 or 24 hours. Usually part time is anything under 37 hours.
That is extremely odd. Well they must have something up their sleeves. Well I will be working elsewhere part time as well as with MQ as I have no intention of sitting 40 hours with no work from Amherst and be expected to have 150 lph with no work. What is all this window of work time they said they would be giving everyone. I figured all along they would do away with SE. I have already been looking around and ordered a new computer to send theirs back.

I have many, many years experienced and was just told a little while back, even though I am an IC, that I have to have a set schedule...And I am struggling to follow the set schedule due to family illness....

Do you really mean they are that flexible. Say you have to go to school and pick up a sick child, do you have to notify anyone you will be leaving your computer or can you just go and tend to business as long as you work your 8/12?

It's true...20 hours for part time and 4,000 lines in a two week period and for NON STATUTORY - must work full 40 hour weeks AND maintain 12,000 lines or be changed to SE and no benefits.

I don't get it-it seems like MQ (been here 6 years) wants to pay by the lines AND wants the hours. I used to have overtime on the weekend and even if I typed 6,000lines during the week they wouldn't give me extra for weekend unless the hours were also there. Who cares about hours? Make up your mind!!!!

Actually, an MTSO is within their right to have an expectation of achievement be it xx hours or xx lines and still be within the law with regard to employment status.
They can say in order to be hired as an IC for this position, we need 1200 lines. If you hired a painter to paint your house and he came in did 3 strokes, walked out and didn't show up again for a week, he's still a contractor, but he's not meeting the likely expectation.
Which is why ALL ICs should have contracts with their clients.

you make a commitment of lines...you are an IC...they are great if you can't get your committed lines...just need to let them know and why...some of their accounts are really tough, so check it out before you make a commitment..

before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.

The hours are kept up with so that OT can be paid. Federal regulations influence that because all MTs are employees.
I don't know why, but I am not having any problem getting my lines and hours.
I do multiple accounts with heavy EsL. Honestly, it's just best to plough right through them instead of taking multiple breaks because they don't go away. I do know how hard it is though.
I agree you need to utilize Shorthand extensively. Every time you get an OP, copy it to Shorthand under the doc's name (smithjohn/lapchole). The next time you get that doc, you'll have the report to reference and you'll be amazed at how many blanks you're able to fill in then. Do the same for ROS and PE. Docs are notorious for doing those by rote.
The best possible advice I can give you is to utilize the echart and Alt+G features. If you do this, you'll absolutely breeze right through the ESL dictations and you'll see your line count go up.

The OP asked what is FT, lines or hours. For RAD, you are on a sm
schedule, thus it is hours. 40 hours is full-time. For HIM, you have to hit a certain number of lines. Once you hit it, you are done for the day even if it took you only 5 hours. With radiology, you have to work the entire shift you are scheduled for. The PAY is by the report, the SCHEDULE is by the hour.

dictator(s) of our dreams! And this is just for actual transcription, but what part of the 40 hours does the other work fall into, the demographics, emails, look-ups, re-dos, re-listen, twiddling thumbs while doc is asleep or browsing the charts, etc.

If a person types that slow then obviously being an MT may not be for them! I type around 300 LPH and that averages up to a lot more than 7 bucks an hour.
