I agree -- drama queen of the century (sm)

Not only that, check with your accountant. She claims the MTs are ICs but subjects them to so many rules/regulations, provides the software (no need as just Word would do fine), etc. My state's department of labor is investigating, and I also filled out that IRS form to get a determination, but my accountant says there's no question she was treating people like employees but not paying the taxes, etc. Too bad -- Stanford was fun work, even if it was only clinic work.

All through this century careers have been phased out...

...due to technological advances.  This is happening at an exponential rate - especially during the last decade.  We're on the cusp of this business being obsolete.  Maybe obsolete is a bit dramatic.  It will definitely morph into a different business model.

Eventually it will take just a handful people to do the work that it once took scores of people to accomplish.  Look at front end VR.  Many docs are utilizing this right now, with no need for an MT/editor.  EMR is vying to eliminate narrative dictation/transcription.  We're at the top of a slippery slope.

Drama
I think it has come to the point where the atmosphere at OSi has gotten to the employees and with all the "favoritism" and inadequacy of QA Manager. People are fed up. My advice, get out of OSI, there are companies that appreciate MTs and by the way, why is OSI allowed to post jobs on here when MT STARS is totally against outsoucing offshore? I thought that was not accepted here on this board.
Hey Queen
NOPE, I'm NOT management, but if I was I sure would have better things to do then hang out on a message board reading all this mess. I'm just a lowly albeit satisfied home-based medical Transcriptionist who loves my job and the company I work for. Wonder why nobody else posts their first names on here?
No need for all that drama.
if you would simply call it a night, get some rest and stop trying be so condescending with a whole slew of people here who have very legitimate concerns over the implications of subcontractors and their potential to exert MORE negative forces and drive downwads trends in line rate further into the dust.
Such drama - nt

question to OP queen

I am assuming since you are on the Medquist board you work for Medquist and make that much? I'm assuming because of your name your specialty is operative reports, my favorite report type to transcribe are op reports.  I was just wondering, it is encouraging to hear that, but even if not for Medquist, just to be in the field and to be able to make that much.  I certainly don't make that much now, but hope to.

Oh my...I would rather work for a man..less DRAMA!!

Queen Coal?
Is that the royal we? Who are you speaking for, other than yourself?

If you don't like the thread, just don't read it. I don't like the use of names, either, I don't feel it's appropriate, but until free speech is repealed she has the right. And if the moderators feel it's inappropriate, they have the right to remove it.
If this isn't management, I'm Queen of

I think it really means a no drama SM
person.  I don't think it applies to vacations at all.  You have no idea how many people apply for jobs, get hired and then suddenly need time off to take care of a personal problem, have constant personal issues, child issues, etc. and keep asking for time off.  I see it a lot in this field.  The person who takes a couple of vacations every year (scheduled) and schedules any other time off in advance is rare these days.

Company Drama and the board
It seems to be that a daily drama has to be played out here.  I sure hope things cheer up around here soon. It's getting to be no fun. I am becoming wary that it is not just the MTs causing the drama, but certain places of employment are experiencing growing pains and becoming dramatic.  I am an MT who likes working at home to avoid the drama of the office.  I am an MT who likes a predictable day, a predictable yet challenging job.  For me all this drama is really getting to be a bit much. I don't know about you, but I sure hope that things calm down and a little less anxiety around here.  Have a nice weekend. I am because I am signing off this place and will only lurk to see if the drama queen companies and MTs have calmed down. Have a nice weekend folks.
Well, Cleopatra queen of denial - ever occur to you that if someone
this industry has gone down the toilet and there are so few companies worth even working for these days?  You're amazingly misguided, but whatever gets you through.
Thank you for your commentary, Cleopatra Queen of Denial
The sky may not be falling but what is falling is the bottom out of this business.

Outta here while I still have time to get an education and move on.

I wish you the best of luck.
Job hoppers, undependable, drama queens SM

I've seen them all.  BTW for the person below, I call a person a job hopper when they have had a number of jobs where they only stayed weeks or perhaps a couple of months and then moved on for whatever reason.  These people can be identified from the interview.  They have a laundry list of demands as far as what they will and won't do in terms of worktypes, they need blocks of time out during the day to do errands, make dinner, they have many appointments with various doctors.

If you do end up hiring them for one reason or another, they are undependable.  Float on and off the system all day, have family members call to report the employee is in the hospital REGULARLY, they won't work the shift they committed to, the electricity was cut off, the cable line has been cut..you get the idea.  On the days they do manage to make it to work they are calling the office with stupid problems because they have no technical ability (computer) or they have absolutely no problem-solving skills.  When they aren't having problems, they are calling the office to complain about the work they're getting, they can't type ESL doctors (well who took the test to be hired, I wonder?), they've never typed anything but clinic notes, they don't own a BOS.  I feel your pain.  I hope some of these MTs read this and see themselves, but somehow I don't think they will.  Flame away, people, the folks over in India are grateful when they get more work.

Personally, I couldn't care less about TT or the drama.
You seem to be assuming the company is in the right in this situation. I have no personal stake in the issue, but IMO I think it's overboard to sue over a message board, and I'm just saying since this ridiculousness has happened and opened our eyes that we can't openly say things around here apparently because we never know when something like this could happen, that maybe we should just use different wording very carefully so we can still share important info. I would hate to see this one company's lawsuit ruin our ability to share info with fellow MTs. Just seeing that APPARENTLY, ahem, this company is suing an MT is helpful information in itself when choosing a company.......
Are you the cliche queen, lol. Read between line,
we
Wow, some just aren't happy unless there's negativity and drama abounding.

Since you are the queen of perfection, I shouldn't have to point out it is catastrophe. nm

This drama NEVER ends! It is SOOOOOO scary, and so boring at the same time!
Now Lee will come on, with an empassioned plea to please call her, and yada, yada, the misunderstandings. This person left, or that person left, or now a new bolt of lightning. It is getting ABSURD to have this regurgitated at least weekly on this board!  Same old, same old. I would NEVER work for Keystrokes, and can't imagine anyone falling for this saga and applying.  Something is VERY wrong in KS land.
Well, goodie for you, Flo! I'd be happy if I was Dairy Queen drive-through material
job for which I'm no way qualified to be in too.

Congratulations! Glad you're happy!
Back-stab, manipulate - YES ! Dairy Queen material - NO !
anon
That's a horribly offensive term. I wouldn't compare some drama
nm
To the SpellCheck Queen and Grammar Police...Sorry for the errors. I sent it before proofing.
I know it's a MT no-no.
Broken promises, messed up pay, endless drama. Good riddance!
nm
I agree, absolutely agree
and I might say, this is keeping updated in ALLLL specialities and subspecialities, drugs, instruments, and on and on. It is not a good profession for sure and sadly it is the MTs who are being very definitely HAD
Agree 100%
STAY away!
Nobody is going to agree anyway. LOL
And nobody has worked for every company in the U.S. to be able to offer an informed opinion.
Agree

I agree also.  I do think that each company has its MTs that have not one thing good to say about the company and on the flip side, there are many that love it.  I have worked at a few different companies in my time and find through experience on this forum to be true.  I absolutely love Transcend.  There are a few things that aren't perfect in my book, but the good far outweighs the bad.  The thing that I hate, though, is if you have anything good at all to say about your company, you are either management, lying, or a cheerleader.  I think that people love to believe the worst.

I also have found out through my travels that things can vary greatly from one employee to another even though they may work at the same company.  There may be a rule for you that does not apply to another, example - below one says Spheris would not allow someone to work at MQ also but there is an MT who is doing it with permission.  An MT can get on here and argue all day long that this or that doesn't happen at their company but it may very well happen for another MT.  It is so humerous to me to see that we believe that being employed at a company, in our remote homes, that we think we know everything about that company and how it operates with the other remote MTs - MTs that more than likely we don't even know.

I agree 100%.
I agree 100%
I don't agree entirely.

When offshore outsourcing first began many clients began jumping on that bandwagon thinking they were going to be able to save money.  That resulted in a great number of clinics and hospitals eliminating their in-house transcription departments because of 1) reduction in overhead expense by outsourcing a whole department and 2) realizing an even greater reduction in expenses by using foreign labor at less cost than domestic transcription wages.  The trend is beginning to come full circle now and because of quality issues and the higher cost of risk management more clients are demanding that their medical records information stay in the United States.  A lot of MTSOs now advertising are stating right in their ads NO OFFSHORE MTs NEED APPLY.  Clients are beginning to see that it wasn't as cost effective as they thought it would be because it actually ends up costing more in the long run either in quality or risk management. Some hospitals and clinics are actually bringing work back in house again and only using domestic vendors for overflow work.  I think sooner or later unless the quality of VR improves it will have the same result.

i agree
I also had a similar experience last year and did not like it at all. It was a total mistake.
Yes, I agree

Thank you for posting this!  I am also very happy with Amphion.  It is nice to hear a positive experience for a change.  I hope your post will help other MTs searching for work realize that there really are some good companies out there!

I agree--
They will make your life miserable with every nit picking thing they can think of to get you to quit. Again, this was my experience, no one has to agree with me.
Agree
but I thought that she was referring to simply putting it in a diagnosis, not coding.
Agree
LOL......I understood that she was just transcribing the numbers as they're dictated. And, we all know the docs don't always give the "dash" (-) or "slash" (/) word when it needs to be typed in.

I wasn't trying to help code, been a while since I did that, just trying to help make sure her question was answered. (No offense intended.) :)
I agree with QT
QT EASY platform -- a few mushmouths -- mainly PAs very few ESLs -- also FutureNet is a good company  -- direct deposit as statutory by they will express mail checks and good cpl rate -- sorry for the typos  -- just got done for the night and no fingers left
I agree..
I left after sitting for five hours and getting 2 reports, this was Transcend who bought MDI. Then, there was the sound issues.

The staff was just great though!
I agree with everything you said....
It just seems like Transcend is the company to bash this month, but I am extremely happy
I Agree.....
There are so many "cherry-pickers" on the account(s) I work on, it makes me crazy. Some of us get stuck doing the hardest jobs and the others breeze through.
I agree 100%. (sm)
Someone here had a bad experience and has made it her goal in life to run this company down. Maybe she didn't come up to par....actually you can tell that by her messages. I have only been with OSi about 6 months, but will be staying till I retire.
I agree!

Definately the meanest on this board.  Always has something to say, whether it pertains or not...

I agree
the swearing on the boards and making fun of other people, pathetic.  I thought we were all grown ups here.  I can't believe that some of these grown women sound more immature than my 11 year old.
Agree! LOL (nm)
.
I agree
No I don't work out of the Amherst office -- have heard so much about them on this board.... I work out of the Orange CA office and last week except for 1 day -- it was like pulling teeth to get enough work to keep me busy during the day. Now, I am face today with either sitting babysitting my computer all day just waiting for work or taking the day off either unpaid or burn some PTO. Can't really afford either, but this is just stupid. If I get my butt out of bed and "at my job" by my start time.... I should get paid whether there is anything to do or not.
Agree, besides, what one co does, the others will
zz
I agree. sm
Not a very good place to work. Communication was horrible when I was there.
Agree with above
Yes, they pay for downtime.  The only time they do not is if is due to something on your end like electric failure or internet failure.  If there is no work or if their computer breaks or system is down, they pay $12/hr downtime.  In my experience, there is also the option of making up the time if only a few hours or so (which equates to more than $12/hr for me, so I have always made time up if I could).
I agree with aa
Here are the good points: They do apparently pay for spaces now. I would confirm this if you apply.

They seem to have plenty of work - you definitely won't be sitting around for days without work.

They pay approximately 5 days after the end of the pay period, which is actually pretty fast as payroll goes.

They do seem to have some interesting accounts, although I wouldn't know how you get on them.

If you can ignore the goofy emails that get sent out on a regular basis and try to ignore the inconsistent QA, they pretty much leave you alone. If you need benefits, though, look elsewhere.
Have to agree
I quit two weeks after training.
I agree
I am dealing with the same thing right now. It is frustrating to my family life. They call me at night a lot to work.
