I think I've always worked Christmas, and every other holiday, due to
Even when I worked in-house for a few hospitals, my schedule always seemed to fall where Christmas, New Year's, usually even Easter, fell on one of my regularly-scheduled work days.
When my daughter was younger, I was fortunate enough to work 6 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., so I was home early enough where we could still have pretty much a full day in front of us.
Now that she's older, I honestly don't mind working the holidays...There's a lot to be said for holiday pay when one works in-house. Since I'm now an IC from home, I can hop on and off throughout the day as I desire to get my lines and not feel as if I'm missing out on anything.
Nah, I don't mind working holidays.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I'm not a TTer, but this is a holiday week. I've
been on OT for months, but short lines every day this week. I get paid downtime so doesn't matter to me. I know next week things will pick up again.
NO WORK at Transtech -- did no good to work the holiday for 1.5 lines, did it?
I am sure the office staff will share their PAID HOLIDAY MONIES with us who sit here with no work. This has gotten to be such a frustrating profession. I guess I need to relocate to Houston so that I can work in the office, too, and reap those wonderful paid benefits that us at-home piecemeal workers do not get.
No, you don't have to ask to work a holiday (sm)
I have the same problem with working past my usual quitting time (getting old, you know- LOL) I usually just send an email to Deb (or I guess to support) and say, I'm tired, will make up on weekend. Have never had a problem. Actually they are probably glad to have the help on the weekends. They are pretty flexible, especially when work is low. Don't hesitate to call them or email them for questions. I like it here too.
Do you have to ask to work on a holiday...
when you are scheduled off?
Another question when out of work-do you have to keep working until your 8 hours are in once the work picks up or just make up that time later. I have a hard time working past a certain hour in the day and in the past, just made it up during the week/weekend. I don't want to get on the bad side of 'em. Love it here.
Only if you actually work on the holiday
If you choose to work the holiday, you will get paid the extra cpl for the holiday, but if you choose not to work the holiday, you won't get it.
Is everyone still out of work from the holiday?
I'm at Oracle and my account has been totally 100% out of work since Labor Day. I'm asking that they put me on a secondary but even if they do it tomorrow it'll be my smallest paycheck ever.
How's everyone else doing across the board?
Also I'm perfectly aware that its normal to be out of work after holidays, but tell that to my bills.
Thinking of getting out of the business..... :(
Yes, you do have to work the holiday,
if it falls on one of your regularly-scheduled work days.
You do, however, get a 3 cents per line bonus for every line you type.
Low work situation again this a.m. Due to what Holiday? n/m

If you are not scheduled to work the holiday, then
you shouldn't unless the call goes out for extra help.
If you jump on when you're not scheduled to work and you have all your hours and lines, you're just taking away from those that are scheduled to work. Don't be greedy.
If the holiday is your scheduled day to work....
then you work, unless you have pre-scheduled the time off. There is a holiday line bonus added onto lines worked on the holiday.
I just ran out of work this afternoon. So much for holiday buildup. nm

Typical holiday at Transcend - no work!
They musta sent all my stuff over to India so they can all get new saris for their next holiday. Meantime, there goes my lunch for 3 weeks. Ya happy now Transcend management? You have managed to put us all in the poor house. Hope your summer cottages burn and your boats sink.
Not MDI, but where I work, no weekend differential, no holiday pay...
I HATE it. I've been looking for a job out of MT for a year - nothing. Your schedule includes one weekend day, and if a holiday falls on your regularly scheduled work day, TS - you get your normal line rate.
The holiday was 10 days ago! That is ridiculous. Lots of work here. nm
nm
very true... MT wages won't cover holiday work and sm
grocery stores, nurses, those people usually VOLUNTEER and are not forced into their shifts. Some people want to work on holidays and get DOUBLE or TRIPLE pay, not 9 cents a line to do an ESL that makes you $10 an hour. And what does Obama have to do with it?
NO paid holidays for us all year round. If there is any work on the holiday, you get
lines and a half, but usually there is no work. They usually clear out the work before the holiday so there is no 1-1/2 line pay remaining. Transtech names 6 holidays each year, but the MT takes those holidays off WITHOUT pay. I am sure the office staff and all other non-MT staff take off WITHOUT pay, too, aren't you???? LOL
Which MT companies DO pay an MT for holidays. I don't consider a day a HOLIDAY unless it is PAID. They can call it 6 holdays, but have to take off without pay . . . . just another day, i.e, get sick -- NO PAY.
There's plenty of work. Hope you like working every weekend and holiday. nm

Hate the day after a holiday for work -- seems like it takes forever to get my account back up to
speed and getting work available. Oh, well, I'm just venting this morning because I don't have any work and guess I should be cleaning house instead of sitting on here being frustrated about it. Have a good one!
Of course there's plenty of work at TT, you've got MDI-MDs work!!!
YOU NOW HAVE MDI-MD'S ACCOUNTS.
WE HAVE BEEN STARVING AND SCRAMBLING AND UNABLE TO PAY BILLS FOR TWO MONTHS, BUT, YES, Transcend DEFINITELY HAS PLENTY OF WORK.
No offense, Deb. MDI-MD is the one that sold out. Can't blame Transcend for trying, but PLEASE do NOT come in her touting how much work Transcend has when it is the work the MDI-MD MTs have been ROBBED OF for months now.
That's insensitive and quite frankly probably not the best foot to get off on with MDI-MD'ers.
I'm walking anyway. MDI-MD was too underhanded, sneaky and self-serving during this entire transaction.
I certainly hope they do indeed reap what they have sown.
I've done PRN work for them
They're a small MT company with decent people who will work with you, especially regarding having life outside of MT. They use ICs rather than employees and are very flexible as long as work is in by deadline.
Dictators vary in difficulty but they'll work with you on what you're best at and won't jumble you continuously.
As a subcontractor, you don't get paid until they do, but their accounts pay steady and they keep in touch with you when checks arrive for each account and send them out promptly. Once you get rolling, you'll get a steady stream of income.
They don't off-shore and they're honest.
Thanks. Have they been low on work since you've
nm
I've got a ton of work, on OT, It may be
slow a day or two next week due to the holiday, but then we'll probably be on OT again.
I've never been without work at Amphion!
??
All's I know is, I've never been out of work for more than 5 minutes...
90% of the time I'm on my main account and have something like five backups. Also, I asked my manager to train me on the account that's always super backed up (like 200+ reports every day) so I'd have that as back-up, also.
Running out of work is gonna happen sometimes; it's the nature of the beast. And like I said, it's never lasted long. I'll take the teeny little hiccups in work flow over the low hospital pay and bitchy co-workers/managers any day of the week.
In 5 years I've never had a day without work, though
have had probably 4 days of about half my usual line count, due to the hospital system being down or due to hurricanes, but never went completely without work. My company isn't hiring though.
I've been there for 1-1/2 years and have never run out of work. nm
:]
Don't you still work for QT? You've posted
several times in the past, always seeming to want to get something started.
I've NEVER run out of work in 9 years.
hellish shift, all the reports everybody else sends back, it's a dirty job, and love the $
I've never said there isn't work, it just depends on your
account. But I'm willing to put in the time, adjust my schedule to when there may be work, etc. and have multiple accounts and still can't get lines in (and I wasn't the only one) then it doesn't matter now much OT is available on another account.
I've got work available at almost all times of the day,
but I am on Lanier accounts. I think the wav accounts have a lot more people on them fighting for the work. Maybe there are people on your accounts doing way above their commitment. That would throw things off all around. Perhaps you should inquire about it. If you try all times of the day and still don't find work available, they should give you another account. Good luck. I know it is frustrating running out of work. I have other accounts that do that and it gets so tiresome. Some days I just hate this whole industry. These tight TATs are the root of all the work flow problems.
I've not had any problems with low work....sm
in fact, my 3 accounts have been on OT for a few weeks now.
Must be on a different account than I am - i've never run out of work with Amphion!
.
I've been there 5+ years and have had plenty of work.
I would occasionally work on weekends when I needed extra $$ and there is no work on the weekends now. Mondays also tend to be a little slow because they are keeping a tighter TAT and we aren't playing catch-up from the weekend, but even then I still get my lines.
Are you a long-time QTer and not getting your lines?
I've only ever heard of them having plentiful work
and that's been my experience. Is this a new issue?
I've been with them far, far longer than you, and believe me, work is not bountiful. You are very
One year, big deal. You have no idea. You won't be happy for very long.
I've been out of work 2 times today
7 a.m for 1-1/2 hours, and now. I don't count the 1 or 2 reports that slip in. I've worked exactly 3-3/4 hours today in my 8 hour shift.
We have work. I've been in your shoes though with other jobs
They are screaming desperately, I get the job, and the second day of the job, there is no work so I sat there all afternoon twiddling my thumbs. By day 3, when I was told there was only 3 reports to do, I quit. Life's too short to waste my time and energy.
I've decided that I'm not going to work for them any longer. sm
I never signed anything that obligated me to the fee. That's the point. I only found out with the direct deposit printout, and I had to then question the expense. I've been an IC for years, and never have I been asked to pay for the use of the software a company installed on my computer. I provide my computer to use, yes, but a company has to supply the software, and no one has ever required a charge for that. I should have been afforded the opportunity at interview to either accept or reject the job based on that requirement. Since the subject of a license fee was never broached during the interview process and the contract did not specify that I would pay for a license fee, I accepted the position based upon the contract terms. As far as they have a right to charge since I am an IC, I feel they have no right that is not specified within the contract boundaries. Am I wrong with this thinking?
So is the work load at MDI-FL picking up? I've talked to them before....sm
about coming to work for them when it does. They said they'd get in touch with me and so I really don't want to contact them back first. However, I'm probably going to move on if I don't hook up with them soon. I've seen here that their work load is down and perhaps they've overhired (?), but they'd be my first choice of where to go from here. So is their work picking up, especially the VR?
I've never clocked in/out, great company to work for.
x
I've been trying to find a company with steady work
x
Update: I've been contacted and may be able to return if work is available.
This is exactly why I loved my job there!!! These are the best people to work for. Whenever you have problems, issues, and questions, they are always there and treat you with the utmost respect. Even if I do not get the chance to return, I feel blessed to have spent the last four years there. Trust me.....none of the other nationals out there can compare.
Great place to work. I've been there a year.
Exactly what do you want to know?
I've had steady work the past 2 days on
my primary account, but I'm pretty sure it only has to do with people being off. I don't think there has been any kind of major change for the greater good or anything. So I'm not getting excited. I'll be back at the soup kitchen probably next week - so someone save my seat!
I've been there 1 1/2 years and had no problems. I'm an IC, very seldom run out of work, usua
more than enough to go around except the times when transcription is slow across the board. Pay is direct deposit and my personal experience with management is that they are easy to get along with and flexible.
I've been able to make my hours. No, you do not lose insurance if work should run out. nm
nm
I've not been short on work at all. Plenty so far (knock on wood) lol. nm
xx
Sounds like several places I've been with! They can tweak the distribution of work any way they
s
Most of their work does not get proofed. some of it is absolutly awful - I've seen samples - ACK
NM
I've been on OT all but 2 days the past 4 months. If work is slow
that just means we get a chance to get caught up with TAT. Get paid for downtime too if no work.
