Unless something has changed, health insurance rates vary state by state, so we may not have the
info you need. I'm an IC so I don't have benefits.
Focus is Indian run and you'll be editing Indian
work, so seriously doubt you'll make a bunch of $$ on editing. 99% of the MTs love KS. If you'll just scroll down the page you'll see dozens of posts about them.
You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.
ok, admit it though . . .
You used to have nice normal-sized fingers and now they're worn down to little stubs, aren't they? I made $58 1 year, but it was a great account and I rarely took a day off. Just didn't find it worth it, but 20 yrs. ago would have been able to pull it off with no problem. Congrats to you, though!
I must admit.....
That's cute!!
Here we go again! You have to admit,
nm
Oh c'mon! Admit it.........sm
it's the nasty, "go for the jugular" posts that keep these boards entertaining. If we all posted polite little messages, I'd be bored to death.
Oh my goodness! I have to admit that I
honestly am flabbergasted at all the praises TT gets. Its actually so wonderful, yet I admit that I have had my doubts in the past as well, as it is just so completely unheard of in our industry anymore to have a company that is great to work for. I admit, I'm jealous. Though hopefully I can turn my jealousy into a positive and actually push myself to apply for a position with TT. I have thought this over the last few weeks, and then talk myself out of it because I figure its too late - all the positions must be filled. See what spending a lifetime working for a cold huge national can do to one's self-esteem? I need to make changes in 2007, and applying at TT is on the very top of the list! I think I would burst into a river of tears if I even got a card, let alone a gift - anything. I have devoted nearly 20 years to one company, and expect nothing, absolutely nothing. Its sad, isn't it?
The MQ'ers just don't like to admit that (sm)
they are working for a company who abuses them, and they stay there and put up with it, kind of like an abused wife. I for one believe you, cause my company is also hiring a lot of MQ'ers. There really ARE companies who values good MT's. It's really sad they can't believe this, but I guess it makes them feel better for putting up with the abuse. Who knows. Congrats on your new job. BTW, I have never worked for MQ - came close, but didn't. Thank the Lord.
Hate to admit this
I applied for it. But you have to have Docshuttle, which is I think around $100, and from what I hear it wouldn't be worth it even if were only $10. I'm desperate enough that I'd have taken it and hoped for a good raise after the 6 cents. Oh, well...guess I better get back to filling out my Hy-Vee application.
You are 1 of those who will never admit being wrong,
even if it is proved to them that they are wrong. Not only refusing to admit that they were wrong, even starting foul language against the 1 who is right.
And they behave the same when it comes to their private life, to interhuman relationships, friends, family etc, not being able to admit their mistakes and aplogize, not being able to say, 'I am sorry,' our of their stubbornness.
YOU should NOT be an MT.
The state you live in or the state where the MTSO is located? nm
nm
I'll admit . This is the only thing I don't - sm
like about MDI. The staff is wonderful, I love the flexibility and my accounts are great, but I don't like paying for LD and having to use a C-phone. Supposedly, all of their accounts are to go wave eventually, but who knows when?
I'm 1st to admit I am no expert but I have worked
you have obviously formed an opinion of me without REALLY knowing me. C'e LA vie.
Probably not - I believe they are Indian run or Indian based company. nm

Go to their Indian website or other Indian websites

Make everyone admit offshore is a fact. sm
Maybe, if we MTs and MTSOs put it so out there that this is happening, even if the facilities/doctors would prefer to turn their backs and ignore it, they will have to admit it goes on and either contiue using offshore, or pay higher for US MTs. This seems to be the elephant in the room and we need to annouce to everyone there is a pacyderm in the doctor's office.
so, you admit to starting a thread to antagonize?
nm
Transcend does. If you look, they advertise on the Jobs board but they admit that
they send work overseas.
If company is in state that has no state taxes
they are not required to take out state taxes. It's enough to keep up with your own state tax law code, could you imagine having to stay abreast of 49 other state tax codes? The cost would be huge and ultimately passed on to us by lower line rates. Regardless of who owes the tax, someone has to pay it. Just a matter of convenience I guess.
Not state by state, federal labor law - sm
and you don't have to be asked. If you work it, asked or not, they have to pay time and a half OT rate for hours worked over 40 in a week.
Taken right from U.S. Dept of Labor -
An employer who requires or PERMITS an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)MUST receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest.
Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.
Different state to state. You would be surprised to find
IC can be defined differently state to state. Even the IRS cannot come up with a definitive set of rules. You would be surprised how many ICs actually get unemployment in some states. If the unemployment claim form asks specifically if you are an independent contractor, do not lie, but if it does not, do not volunteer it. Let the company prove you are a true IC according to the rules of your state. All you lose is a few minutes filling out the claim form. I would only do it as a last resort. If you can find work fast, by all means go for it, but the way things are now with all the VR and off-shoring, it is a backup if you cannot find work. No one should go hungry because they are afraid to file for Unemployment as an IC.
Yeah, have to admit..my "dream fairy" is pretty much snuffed out. I bet there are not many dre
left out there. We are now skeptical and bitter. Time to retire and travel LOL
I have to admit my line count has improved since reading the board
I see how everyone else is doing, and then I can set goals for me, though I am too shy to be on the goal board yet. I have to thank the board for that. It teaches me what is possible, and also that we can only do our best. I have to agree totally about how it has been a godsend.
They should take out state taxes for the state
nm
It varies from state to state
nm
Varies from state to state
My own state recognizes partial unemployment, too, when your work gets cut down to half of your regular workload/income.
They must deduct FEDERAL taxes.. NOT STATE taxes.. if they took out state taxes.. it would be FLORID
which would only have to be refunded to you for you to pay YOUR state what you owe them which is nothing but a pain... be glad they weren't handling your state tax.. and I think in this case.. if someone at the IRS told you they have to deduct YOUR states taxes.. it is that person who is uneducated... they only have to deduce federal income tax
Indian ran?
ugggggg
They ARE Indian!!!
If you want to take a chance and not believe what you read, you will see for yourself that they are ALL Indian RUN!!!! Some people are so hardheaded....they are a horrible company and Bobbi is a real MEAN person to deal with as well....NO WAY FOR FOCUS!!!
CMT for Indian MTs
As an Editor who worked an account for several years transcribed 100% by an Indian company, I am surprised to hear they are able to pass the CMT certification exam. Their transcription was comical at best and sheer nonsense at worst.
HIS has been Indian since day one.
It has not one whit to do with AAMT. This company tried to recruit me years ago when they were first started and they were Indian then and still have their heavy ties. You lost your jobs because Manor Care will not be deep pockets to a dying entity any longer and can't even sell the damned thing!! Blaming AAMT is easy. I think the letter you got may have been from the executive director and not the President. Each of us, has to take responsibility for the choices we make with employment and having been through a lay off with HIS I had to blame myself ultimately for making a choice to be lied to and believe it because it suited me at the time. Offshoring is over 15 years in existence and I guess here to stay so the next time you make an employment choice be sure you pick a company that does not offshore .. in the meantime, put the blame where is squarely belongs at your own doorstep and not AAMT.
...that should be Indian MTs. nm

Indian MTs
There are always exceptions. I emailed often with one of the Indian MTs at one time. His English was probably better than my own. I think he was starting up his own transcription company and he was kind enough to ask me to work for him. (I was already working, but I considered it nice of him to ask). Really, I do think he was the exception, he was a great fellow. He was supporting his mom, his father had just passed away. Now he has gotten married. I do not exchange emails with him anymore but, if there were others like him, they would do pretty good. I do not really think that there are others like him though. Honestly, my primary account probably has 80% of his nationality. Wish they could type those.
Indian.

Didn't you know this board is run by Indians??
I wonder what they pay the Indian MTs? ..sm
I guess it is now equal, we are paid the same as the Indian.
did you mean by chance Indian
.
So is that why the new US MT supervisor is Indian?
?!?!?!?!
I was doing some research on Indian
MT companies and from what I can tell probably all work is done in India. They do hire U.S. editors, or at least they used to.
So, are your editors Indian?
I highly doubt it.
Indian company (nm)
x
That is correct! I don't! Obviously if you can tell they are Indian....
x
indian company
i bet it's an Indian company
Sounds like an Indian to me...nm
nm
They are not an Indian company - they are in NY
but they were offshoring A LOT of their transcription work. In fact, they lost quite a few clients about a year ago because the quality of the transcripts was just AWFUL!
Indian and Philippine.
yes.
I don't know name of company, but there is an Indian
company with at least a store front in MA. Tech people could possibly be in MA, but are probably in India.
You mean they are hiring US MTs. Wonder why. They are almost 100% Indian. nm
:
All of the Indian MT work I have
proofread is full of errors. I guess there are exceptions out there.
Says they also use Indian MTs on their website. nm
