Then you should be fine at Diskriter if that's where you choose to work, Jeannal.
There are angry, negative people all over this board and, unfortunately, this line of work affords people the opportunity to job jump a lot more than most others. You will see negativity about any company on this business if you inquire on a message board, but the best thing to do is what is best for you.
Again, I'm very happy at Diskriter and would highly recommend them to anyone. I can only speak for myself.
Best of luck wherever you decide to work.
:)
I am glad that you decided to post, thanks..nm

Wow..glad I decided against taking the job. They were pretty assertive in trying to get me to sign
on for this account because supposedly this was one they were taking back from their offshore division or something. They were really gearing up for help and were hiring like 15 MTs to man this accont because of the high work volume. This was only like a couple of months ago. What a bummer. I guess it is always right to follow your gut instinct. I love ortho but something just told me DONT DO IT. I'm sorry for you though. For me, no work = moving on!!! Good luck and I hope you get another job or some work.
you can join, no problem. If you write, you can join. nm

Jeannal, were you working for a hospital that
decided to outsource, or did you decide you want to work at home and so you are leaving the hospital?
Jeannal, here is some advice - it doesn't matter which company
you go with if they have good insurance. If you are basically looking for great insurance, then go with the company that has the best insurance for you. Bottom line. It doesn't matter what kind of work you get, what kind of jobs you get, as long as you make the minimum line count and you are only concerned about insurance, then go with that company that offers the best. It might not be Diskriter, it might not be Spheris, it might not be Medquist - or on the other hand, it might be all three. It's up to you - if insurance is a big issue and work is not, then go with the company that offers good insurance only. The rest will fall into place
Oh, ok. Thanks. Maybe I will join you soon.

We can do even more... we have to join
To all my fellow MDI'ers, I think it is time to tighten up the bootstraps and starting thinking out of the box. Let's get together in private, put our thinking caps on, combine resources, and see what we can do for ourselves and each other. Every email will be confidential... we still have our integrity! Write to AmericanMT@yahoo.com
Are the people who join
and currently work for them kept confidential??
Can I come join you in La La Land?
Your dreamin.
Hey can i still join the survey? nm

There is a Union for MTs to join
MTs have been able to join the National Writers Union http://www.nwu.org/nwu/ for several years, though very few have done so. Perhaps if more of us joined we might get somewhere. Worth a try anyhow, don't you think? We certainly don't have much more to lose.
how do you join it? When I clicked sm
on join, it just came up a message that this was private or something like that. What process do you go through to join this group?
join forces
Hi, I'm a fellow MDIer and am interested in hearing from others who are interested in a private group. I am kicking around the idea of trying to start a Co-op of something of the sort, I'm looking for resources and ideas from others who might be interested in starting our own company... not me personally, but as a group creating our own company. Surely it can be done! Americanmt@yahoo.com, spread the word and I hope to hear from you!
OK, on the home page i am looking at, there is NO Join Us.
I'm dead serious. There is NOTHING on the site I am looking at for Join us or send a picture. www.synthescribeofamerica.com
So you will tell a person to join, knowing they won't
xx
You could try to find out if account gone and then try to join
xx

how_do_i_file_a_petition_to_start_or_remove_a_union.aspx
Its all one link, but I had to split it to get it to show up. Sorry about that.
If IC's can't join EXISTING unions, then maybe
it's time for MTs to form a union that DOES include IC's, especially since they are a large part of this industry. They deserve better wages, too.
I will join you at the bottom, no jobs for me either..nm

I'm not exactly sure - feedback from those who would join an MDI forum?
I don't know that I can answer that directly. I know I would be interested in participating and (maybe) even trying to set it up... I was just trying to encourage all of us to come up with something, as I thought the original poster had a great idea. Your idea sounds like one that would work.
So the poster who got the thread started seem to want to be able to talk privately without any mgmt of MDI being able to see. But, even with a Yahoo group and using anonymous emails, really there is no way to monitor who is who. I'm not sure I would want to be the one excluding anyone anyway. The bottom line, it seems to me, that even with the most private of groups such as this, what we share still may make it out of the privacy of that group, and all would just have to be aware.
Feedback from others who would join - What kind of group would be ideal? Would you feel any more safe to share in the kind of group mentioned above?
join forces, anyone game?

MDI'ers we need to join forces
I am brand new to MTStars and can't seem to figure things out. I am floating the idea of maybe we join forces, perhaps try to form a Co-op, and maybe if we combine we could start our own company. Maybe a pipedream, but I believe it can be done. We all have resources, we all have brains, and we have been told we are the best in the business. Please help me spread the word, please contact me privately, and let's figure out a way that we can get off of MTstars, start communicating privately so that we can actually be productive. We do have options but time to do away with the anger and starting thinking out of the box. Will you guys please help me?
Time to join forces
I am a fellow MDIer. I am trying to refocus what little energy I have left in getting us organized, getting us together so that we can collectively put on our thinking caps and try to figure out our next step. I am thinking that if we can contact enough people, combine our brains and resources, maybe we will be able to do some constructive, like maybe start our own company/CO-OP. Please contact me T my private and confidential email address which I have set up exclusively for this reason. Thanks! AmericanMT@yahoo.com
Join the club, I quit a few weeks ago. Good luck...nm

I am so glad, so very glad that finally I have reached
the age that if we are low on work, I just take off. No problem at all and love the extra day or so off. I now have worked since the 70s and finally made to retirement age, get SS plus other retirement money coming in and thank the good Lord do not have to worry about if there is work or not. BTW, when I worked inhouse never ran out of work ever, only when transferring out to company do they run out of work. If I had to raise a family now I would most certainly cross train on other accts at my place but only have 1 that I work on, by choice.
I have already decided not to
do editing for Transcend it offered. They only pay half your line rate, I don't think my production will double from what I have heard, people having to put in every other work on VR because it is not picked up. I have had no problems with the auto correct and did try out an Expander program, Short Hand, their free trial download and it has worked fine, I just don't like Short Hand I think, can't remember all those. I have had tech problems with copying large blocks, would not do it. I thought it was me. Lost a report yesterday over this. I have not found the work particularly difficult, but the quality of sound is not very good, static. I will give them a try, but wondering about Beyond TXT.
Thanks, decided to go with KS. nm
Here is what I have decided to do
Just ignore the whole thing, like they do to us. I will just let it sit until they pester me for it or threaten to fire me. They are so unorganized, they will probably forget about it.
I also talked to my attorney, who said the arbitration agreement really would not hold up in a court of law.
Decided against
They ran an ad also about 1-2 weeks ago with a LARGE number of VIEWS. I downloaded the dictation, looked over the samples and abbreviation and after careful thought, decided no way. The pay is low, dictation about 5-6 lines each mostly repetitive and would drive me bats even if I COULD make template (too short) I would lose $, dictator too fast and does not care if understood. I did not follow through, just deleted the files.
not sure what you decided
I currently have worked for Probity full time since October last year. Personally, I have not had any problems. If you are full-time, the benefits aren't that bad - no benefits if you are part-time, which I think sucks! As far as I know, they do pay for spaces, but I may be wrong- never really asked. The manual says We do pay for spaces. Their pay scale depends on how many lines per pay period you transcribe, the lowest being 0.0825 and the highest being .09, which is nice. The thing I really DO NOT like is having to commit to a weekend schedule. Every Saturday or Sunday, you do have a schedule that you have to adhere to. I like the people there and they have been very kind to me. However, I do know of an MT or 2, who don't really care for it. There are ESL docs and yes, some of them are pretty darn tough. Just like any job - unless you are your own boss - there are pros and cons. That is not aviodable. If anyone knows of some place that is perfect, please, fill me in.
As far as I know, they do not outsource and ASR/EMR/VR - whatever you want to call it is not in the near future for this company. That is not to say that it won't happen.
I decided not to take their job offer. (nm)
x
Well, I've decided we all will get 25 cpl from now on.
Now I'll REALLY be popular!
You're right, but I decided (sm)
to go with what the other poster said about what I am looking for in a job and took it. I was so frustrated with the software where I was that I just couldn't stand the aggravation anymore. I just want to do what I do best on software that works. We haven't been paid what we are worth for about 15 years or so. What happened?
I have decided to keep their pedals
until they call me asking for them back (if they even do that). I do not understand how companies like this stay in business. Their loss! Thanks again.
Yeah I decided not to go with
them after finding out how bad of a place it is to work. I have 8 years experience so I don't need to work there. I stopped responding to the email. Thanks for the info!
Yes, I have decided to stay put myself. sm
too much of a pain to learn yet another computer system and platform. What I did was put the pros and cons of working where I do on paper. The pros far outweighed the cons so I am staying put.
This is rumor. Nothing has been decided yet. sm
We are still getting final numbers from 2 different insurance companies. In the past, we have not qualified for a large group policy at a decent rate because of lack of participation. All of the big insurance companies want 50% of the employees to take the insurance and we did not have that in the past. It does look good this time though. We are hoping that the rates come back low but nothing is definite at this point.
Decided to take the offer
I decided to take the offer. I have had a growing number of differences with MED-Scribe lately, and I am ready for a change. I know someone else who is very happy there, and their opinion differs greatly from the old complaints of 2004 & 2005 that were posted on here. Apparently, the company must have worked the bugs out of their system, as they have some happy employees and ICs there now.
So I decided to thank her HERE since it's gone crazy
/
What you have decided makes a lot of
sense. I was just telling my husband last night about how this line of work has gone down and just thankful that I am nearing most of my work life instead of facing it in the future. I have done ok with this in the past but to make a living and raise a family, just not what 1 can get by on anymore. I think your idea is to be commended.
I've decided to find a new job.
However, everyone seems to want fulltime or Tu-Sa/Su-Th or C-phone. Is anyone hiring for parttime day shift any more? I dream of a steady workload, decent platform, honest company, direct deposit, consistent QA, DSL instead of dial-in or dial-up, no need to rent their computer. Is there such a company out there?
I decided I could start next month....
Still tying up loose ends at current position, hired in Sept.
I had applied but I decided that I did not want to pursue with them because...
The owner or manager had contacted me about testing further etc.. When I work during the day, I do not answer my phones and return the calls when I take breaks. Well, he was quite cornered and bothered that I was so difficult to get a hold of, which I took it as not at my beck and call attitude. Just in my opinion, I felt that there was possibly a control issue and I was married to a control freak and would never go there again.. FOR ANYONE.. but that was just my personal experience.
You decided their transcription must be bad because her headset was? sm
That doesn't make any sense.
maybe they caught on to your attitude and decided against it.
nm
Yep. I decided I'd pass on even talking with her. sm
I'm glad she emailed me the info first so I didn't waste her time or mine. Everything seems very structured and rigid. I don't mind working weekends, so I might have been one of the lucky ones who make 10 cpl, and maybe I'm an idiot for taking a pass on it, but something just tells me this is not a good fit.
I got all the emails but I decided to move on
Every time I ask a question here I get my head bit off and that has been by more than one person. I don't need to be treated this way and will check on the other company and maybe work parttime here. Thank you for all your answers. I am going to follow my gut feeling and stop fighting with it.
How is it decided whether you are internet acct or a LD one? NM
nm
BOS not written by God. Just some rules decided
x
Thank you for the offer but I've decided
I just don't have a good feeling about this. I typed over 5000 lines already and haven't been paid and no communication when I will be paid. I sent all my personal information, soc. sec #, banking info to a recruiter who now is not answering my emails - this makes me feel very uneasy. I haven't received your emails, so no I don't think I'm on your team. The person who trained me said she was my team leader and that's the last I heard from her.
Good luck to you. I just don't feel comfortable with any of this, and would rather move on now than wait around and get burnt later. Thanks again.
