I'm not saying you don't have valid concerns but I sincerely feel...

You all should be entitled to have your own board. I've done the Transtech thing a few years ago. This is all old news. Same as most of the companies on here, you either love them or hate them but I feel there is a ton of people that work there or people who want to work there and you should have your own board to discuss this.

I know SINCERELY how you feel about swine rectums!
Really, this is an incredibly career-advancing opportunity.  I never was cut out for being an MT.  In the process of figuring that out, I have been lashing out angrily, like a 2-year-old child, especially tormenting our dear GP.  Oh, I rue the day my personality(s) began posting their swine feces on wonderful MTStars.  If I cannot somehow qualify for the Swine Rectum Examiner, I fear all will be lost.  Pray for me!
    Congratulations, sincerely. sm
It's good to know there are companies out there who value their employees.  In the spirit of the season, I hope you can ignore many of the Grinches on this site and have a really great and Merry Christmas!   Being grateful is important.
Sincerely, I do hope you're prepared to work for 8 cpl now
Apparently MDI was one of the companies that paid their experienced MTs pretty well.

With the merge, you'll be making less eventually. If you quit and look for a new job, you'll be making less, way less, than you were making at MDI.

I'm another one who's BTDT, too. I went from making 11 cpl to now making 8 cpl. I tried HARD to find any company, obscure to well known, that will start off more than that. Couldn't find 'em. Probably won't ever go up, either.

Just sayin' that you should be prepared to budget your living costs for the amount of money you'll be missing each month compared to what you were making at MDI. It's awful, I know, been through it. Going to school now to do something else, getting out.
My wants are just as valid as anyone
elses- I might have to go into therapy if I don’t get insurance to cover. Big $$$$ for plastic, big $$$$ for other. What about my wants??
    Valid points! nm

    Valid question
I know psych work is easier; however, that is all I have done in-house for the past 14 years.  I do have medical transcription in my background.  I began in 1989.  However, I feel I would be a little rusty to begin with medical.  I am looking for a service that has psych work that I could begin with and work my way back into medical.  I will keep looking, and as you said wish me luck.
    Too good to be valid
    nm
Yeah, those were valid enough for me - thanks.
Think I will re-think. I did not test though. No wonder she was surprised when I said I heard good things about them - LOL!! That should have been my first clue, I suppose!
Can only think of one valid reason

If you had not been paying your utility bills - without electricity and internet connections and a phone you could not do your job.  Even so, if you were living with someone else who was responsible for those utilities, that would all be moot; what are they going to do, run a credit check on everyone at your address?  If they did, they'd disqualify even more of us!

I agree with others it is an excuse so they can say they can't find qualified workers and offshore.  A credit score should NOT be considered a job qualification for a job such as this, where we have NO opportunity to embezzle or steal from an employer.  Are they running credit check on Indian MTs?  I bet not!

I think your point is valid

I'm sure there are many US MTs who do not work their schedule.  That problem would not exist if MTs were still working in house, which is rare these days.  So, I feel the MTSOs are most to blame for this problem, as I do not believe that transcriptionists were so eager to be sent home to work to begin with.  It was the MTSOs and the hospitals who were so eager to save money!  We always have this thrown in our face, Oh, but you get to work from home, as if it is a huge benefit.  We still have to work!  Also, some of these companies do not understand how difficult it is to sit for 8 hours typing.  Give the MTs a little flexibility and maybe they will work their schedule.  I do not know anyone who works in an office setting that actually WORKS 8 hours a day.  Alright, sorry if I got off track here...it's a bit of a rant .

you may have a valid point but sm
something doesn't smell right. I got the distinct idea from the recruiter that she didn't agree with the operations manager or whatever she is. Plus she told me she would hold onto my application in case I want to apply in the not to distant future but she could only hold it six months. If I don't work its gonna be the same thing. I realize companies want experience in the last 2-3 years sometimes especially if you haven't had years of experience. But I have had two offers (money was very bad though, no one is paying) that said they would obviously wave that requirement because of the years of experience and the type of experience. To me it was insulting. I did tell the recruiter that MT time is money too and they should not waste our time with all this testing if they have no intention of hiring. They had my resume. O well, obviously not a company that is a good fit. There are others out there.
You do have some valid points, but

there is a lot of misinformation also.   They will work with you to get your lines up and improve QA scores.  It doesn't take someone long to know if you have what it takes to do the work though and giving them another month isn't going to make much difference.  I made the minimum QA scores my first month.  I was on 100% QA less than a week.  They are NOT anal about punctuation.  If you are on 100% QA they are going to correct any error, including punctuation, but I have never been charged with an error for punctuation, though it may be corrected in a report.

It sounds like things didn't work out for you so the company is at fault.  They aren't perfect.  I have issues with different aspects of the company on occasion, but what you have posted is a posting from a typical disgruntled employee.  I don't know you, don't know the details from either side, and I am not making any accusations, but your experience is not typical, as proof by the many MTs who have been there for years, myself included.

    My concerns
First with the job application. They already have all this information on me. I am not giving out references again, and I am not agreeing to a credit/background check. Everytime someone pulls your credit file, it lowers your score slightly. Not going there. Plus, will they somehow use this against us in the future as far as our years of service and make it appear as we did not start with the company until September 15, 2007?

Second, employment agreement. I have a problem with items 4 and 5. I don't plan on sticking around with this company forever. The only reason I stay is because I love my accounts. If they move on (very likely), then so will I. It is quite possibly that I might indirectly divert business from SPI if I go work for a company that has taken one of their accounts. Agreeing to $1000 sanction if that is the case? I don't think so.

The whole arbitration agreement is just a complete farce. From everything I have read, the employee really suffers when matters are taken in front of an arbitrator rather than an actual court of law. SPI knows they have issues. What about the fact that they don't pay time and half for OT? I bet the DOL would love to hear about that one. I could see down the road a whole bunch of MTs trying to file a class action suit, and I think the legal team at SPI is really worried about the same thing, hence this agreement.

Off my soapbox. And it's very early. Too early to worry about spelling or typos, so don't beat me up.
none as far as it concerns me
My point was only that MDI isn't taking on VR to pocket more for themselves. I'm well aware how this affects me personally.
    Concerns
I understand your concerns. I am an employee and would not have it any other way. Every individual’s situation is different and the company is aware of that. I am sure they will work with you. Give them a chance, you might be surprised.
link no longer valid - sorry
    x
I hear you, but so many posts on here are valid.
I, for one, am the one stunned about the MDI-MD news. I have learned to take lots of reviews of companies on here with a grain of salt. You can tell the whiners and complainers.  Personally, right now I'm glad that they are so prevalent, and they can just keep on whining and complaining, because I'm among the high # of professional MTs in the job-searching market right now, and they just improve my chances of landing a great job.  However, there are just too many companies right now overhiring and overstaffing accounts.  Seriously, if, and I repeat IF, the claims of MDI-MD not having enough work to even train their new hires at a max of 5 jobs a day, that is disgusting.  I have had bait and swtiches pulled on me by several companies, all of them the bigger nationals, and it should be a crime. It is a crime to the victim.  So, yes, lots of griping and whining. I agree. Losing PTO and having to work nights and weekends means nothing to me, as I always have.  Most feel entitled and that they don't have to, and you know what? Most get away with it. I still don't get away with it 30 years into this business! But that's my gig and my problem.  So, I agree with you, and I disagree with you at the same time. There is lots to complain about in this industry, and its a shame.  Just hire me and give me the job you promised, just as I always deliver the goods I promised.
    VALID GOOD POINTS....but...
revolts, change, etc, will NOT happen unless there is momentum created by mass involvement. Scattered about, in our homes and various facilities, many MTs do not even know of this board, would make it very unlikely for us to organize to effect a change. Have you ever tried to get people to take a stand? Many years ago I did. I went out on a limb, got everyone in the jobplace behind me (and that was all in one physical place mind you!!) and soon as the top brass got a bit serious sounding, they all, repeat, ALL, ran backwards. There I stood looking like a fool, and almost lost my job. Its very hard to organize, nevermind maintain other's courage to pursue the goal.
Even if it is amusing to you, these are valid business...
expenses that the MT companies are not having to pay. A company with 300 MTs working at home forgoes having to buy or lease a facility, provide utilities, provide insurance for the facility, provide basic supplies such as cleaning supplies or toiletries, provide supervision 24/7, and and provide office supplies such as desks and chairs.

While there are still companies who provide equpipment, all equpiment downtime is absorbed by the MT where in an office setting, it is unlikely it would be. There are also many MT companies who do not provide equipment, software, footpedals, or cable reimbursement. I am sure everyone is aware that this might be provided for you, but it is usually with a decreased line rate.

To quote your obvious enjoyment of this other post, don't you have to eat anyway? Don't you have to wear clothes anyway?
    I understand your concerns
I have google'd myself to death, LOL. I did get an interesting email today, but I have a hunch it's not what you're talking about. I wish I could leave my email address, but I have the same problem as you do and my email would be too easy to track down. I guess I'll just have to wait .
I have my concerns too. This year not even a
Christmas card.   There have been a couple other things that when added to this pot leaves me wondering what is going on.
I certainly have let D know my concerns but to no avail. nm
    nm
    Sorry..I meant THIS concerns their

What concerns me is that the rule is
Unless you like being banned, then keep on having laughs over the job seeker's board posts.  It happened to me, so I like to tell people that I was instantly banned for pointing something out on a job post.  It is not acceptable no matter what the forum or nature of the job posting.  It is not really up to you or I to decide what is just having a laugh!  The moderator has posted this in the past.  NO MAKING FUN OF THE JOB POSTS.  Someone may want to apply, do you think that there are only American MTs in America?  Do you think only foreign MTs stay in their country?  Even if the job was foreign in nature, that doesn't give anyone the right to poke fun or have a laugh at someone else's expense especially someone who is offering jobs!!!!!!!!!
I know the feeling here and that is what concerns me. nm
    x
    I definitely share your concerns...

In my previous post I was and am trying to stay hopeful, as I really enjoy working with MDI like you, when I talked about possibly changing to another account.  In reality, I feel as you do, that I just don't think there will be enough work on straight MT side to provide that.  I just don't understand why such a great company like MDI is offering such a pitance for VR when most other companies are offering 4-5????  Just don't get it.  Again, I'm trying to remain hopeful and would like to believe what the leaders at MDI told me about tripling the line count, but seriously, in reality I really KNOW it is just not possible.

Does anyone have any ideas about anything we can do?  Perhaps approach MDI/Dorothy as a group with our concerns??

I think the points you raise here are valid, and perhaps even accurate, but...SM
I also think reasonable rebuttals to these arguments have already been posted. I am no longer willing to buy into the idea that nothing can be done and that there is nothing left to do but go down with the ship or just go wherever it happens to take us.

My decision has already been made. Maybe it's a losing battle, maybe it's not. But it's a battle that I am at least willing to fight. In this battle, I see the sword coming at me, and I for one intend to at least try to get out of the way.

Our jobs don't have to be as different as all that. I don't care what everyone else is going to do. I take the stand I do because I refuse to just lay down and be run over by the "wheels of progress," especially when it doesn't have to be that way. If everyone will stand together, we still have the ability to have a significant impact on what our collective future will be. If, on the other hand, everyone buys into the idea that it's "a losing battle," then your right, we're all just along for the ride in whatever direction the vehicle chooses to take us.

With an it-can't-be-done attitude, you know what we are? We're the elephant chained to the stake that's hammered only a few inches into the ground. We have the power to pull it up and move at will, but because we have been trained to believe that the anchor is stronger than we are, we eventually quit trying because we're convinced it's "a losing battle." Again, maybe it is and maybe it isn't, but I think we should all give the chain a good, healthy tug and find out for sure. It can't hurt.

By the way, I'm not saying stop working. I'm just advocating we become more particular about who we work for.
I think I made a valid point. What is your purpose in
My point was that a lot of recruiters will talk up their company when people looking into them inquire about them.  They're not supposed to do it, but it's done all the time.  Anyone who is seriously looking into a company will know exactly where to contact them and TO contact them.  Someone asked a legitimate question and got a rude reply from you.  You got called out and you don't like it.
You have very valid points, and I'm going to try to work more on the positives. nm

What difference does it make who it is? He/she has some valid points. sm

While we are hashing through our own problems and such, sometimes (myself definitely included), we many times forget to consider what the other person is going through.

    Hospital concerns for benefits.

Many MTSO's are hiring only ICs now with no no benefits given.  Now given these are mostly smaller company's.  But why don't the hospitals form their own and contract out.  That's basically what some of the smaller MTSO's are.  They use the hospitals equipment.  I work for a small rural hospital as an independent contractor.  I worked inhouse for 2 years doing their Basic 4 and radiology reports.  For family reasons I was planning to leave but they offered to send me home to work.  Since my husband had medical benefits, I did not miss the benefits at the hospital.  But this situation worked out fine since I had a sick child that I was paying daycare for when he was not even there but home sick.  Ten years later, I am still working at home for the same hospital.  Hospital's work has grown and I am not willing to work so much now.  The hospital thought about hiring a MTSO but decided not to after they found out what they charged.  Which was about 3 times what I did.  They hired part-time Transcriptionist themselves to cover what I could not do.  So, to all those below who thinks it wound not benefit the hospitals, here's one story where everyone benefits.

Doesn't seem a valid point to me. Most people can make 250 lph sm

so why not do it making 8-9 cpl (or more) and make $24-27 per hour?  I don't think $15/hour is much nowadays, but that is just my opinion.  I made that 10 years ago in an office setting -- hate to think of going backwards, although I do reailze that is the trend in transcription nowadays, sad to say.

I just hope he/she (and everyone) finds something that pays more than that, especially for IC work.

Do you really think owners have time to come on this board to know there are any concerns? sm
If you really and truly believe they are offshoring, ask them. Tell them you have concerns and that you have heard they were outsourcing!. I know for a fact that L is still quite involved in the company and believe me, they have hired new people; people who just couldn't cut it and were not good enough to put out quality work; QT has always, always prided themselves in quality! If an MT can't do quality work, why keep them? It's a waste of time and money! I just know one thing, I will do my all this week to help get us back in TAT. You do what you have to do!
I don't think there would be any greater conflict concerns than there would be with any kind

Transcend Line Count Concerns - SM

Any fellow Transcenders have knowledge of how the company handles not meeting line requirements, especially if low to no work on your account.  Are there warnings given or do they just pink slip you immediately?  Anyone had ANY experience whatsoever with this....Thanks so much.  Am worried.

Do Not Fear Retribution for Sharing Concerns
    Denise:

Thanks for the kind words about my post. It is my sincere attempt to ensure that every team member feel valued and empowered to be successful. It is regrettable to hear your concerns for simply sharing your feelings and yet I can understand because I do know that these types of passive/aggressive response have been taken by managers of our organization and virtually all others.

Denise, it is my job and responsibility to make sure each team member has a voice and that their concerns are heard. While I can't always provide everyone with exactly what they want I am typically able to help. I hope you will feel comfortable sharing your concerns with me.

Thanks again for the reply and sentiments.

Once upon a time, a surgeon responded to my concerns
The girls were tearing up the 3 surgeons up one side and down the other. And OMG, what they had to say about the office manager!!! I felt they were betraying the man who fed them. So...I went into his office and said, Dr., the morale is very low, the office staff are very upset, threatening to find new jobs and I thought it should be addressed during a staff meeting.

His response was: Do not pay attention to what they say. Venting is a necessary part of being a part of the work force (when you are an employee). The doctor brushed it off,did not want to hear the details and he did not really care who was the instigator. He felt that as long as they showed up on time, held up their end of the load and were pleasant with the patients (anorectal surgeons - ouch).

That office staff who whined and complained and ridiculed was with the surgical team for over 10 years - An RN, 2 front office, insurance cler and med Records gal.

Huge Bonuses (which say THANK YOU!) at Christmas brought momentary pleasantness but come mid January, they'd start again, feeding off each other, like a bunch of women at a Sewing Circle (have you seen the pic on this website depicting us as women in a sewing circle, dear?)

Bottom line - it is harmless. If money is there and then not there, without warning, a person who is not complaining about it is the one I'd be curious about.
    I've had concerns for at least a year. I'm a long-term

QTer so I have seen lots of changes.  Not that I expect anything, but we've always gotten something for MT week and this year not even a card and the whole stink over Christmas.  The IRA thing doesn't have me really concerned.  From what I understand they only hire ICs now.  I know they've had some long-term people leave who might have been employees, so it might not be cost efficient to continue the program.   I haven't had a raise in several years and these days I'm just glad to have a paycheck.  I don't know how much of the work is being offshored, but you would think that would free up some $$, unless they have had to hire extra QA people.  I like not having lots of e-mails/phone calls, but I also would like to know what is going on.  I denied for months they were offshoring, but when I got proof it was a slap in the face and I felt like we should have been told about it.  There seems to be plenty of work on my account so the offshoring hasn't  affected me directly.  So far the checks are always on time and have never bounced.

Things have definitely changed and I don't think for the better, though I've interviewed with several companies lately and haven't found one yet that is better than QT.  I just try to do my lines and be thankful for a paycheck and just accept the fact that the company will never be what it was.

This is the thing that concerns me about this field. Pay is staying the same not increasing!

Every OTHER medical field, nursing, therapists, techs, etc. are all experiencing the yearly salaries going up.  Transcription compensation is not increasing.

While they may increase the RATES the ability to make the more money is not there because of VR, taking away the header allowances, more difficult accounts, more ESLs, stricter QA, etc., etc. slow platforms that require information inserted that you don't get paid for and anything else that lowers your salary.  If hospitals are looking to slash their transcription budget, they are going to pass that onto the service and the service will pass that onto to the employee.

I know transcriptionists that were making 45-50K in 1987 working 40 hours and now they are making 35K and often times working more than 40 hours to make that lower amount.  Or I hear people say I can make the same money but I must work much harder and longer hours.  I think wow...you have to work harder and longer to make what you made in the 1980s.

Other occupations have gotten consistent raises without the need for more hours and I don't think employees would put with up it.  Imagine a well qualified R.N. being offered a 1987 salary?  The hospital would have a hard time hiring nurses.  But the transcription service environment is so competative if they can offer the work cheaper and cheaper while guaranting accuracy they will get that contract.  So in order to stay in business they have to find a way to pay the Transcriptionist the least amount of money to see their profits which they need to stay in business.

Of course if transcription is all you know and you don't to work in an office or get a job at Starbucks you keep going and accept the pay because we really have no control.  You have to work with what they offer you.

I've never had a problem with checks or insurance before so that is what concerns me.
But, I will be following up on Monday. I was just hoping that anyone who had this happen could confirm that is the way it is done. Thus far, no one has really confirmed this so that is a good sign.
Funny some of us were written letters by company attorney when we posted our concerns here
    :(
I feel the same way. I'm irritable because I feel
and that my years of experience overall, and past few years of busting my @$$ for them hasn't been appreciated or noticed in the least.

We're all just cogs in the wheel.
I know. I feel the same way.

    Makes no sense to me..

We've got fiery, feisty redheads all over this country, although my brother and his wife got married in Ireland.

    I feel for you
I think I once felt the same way as you. Its ashame what's been happening but it has been happening and some of it for good reason.
I feel the same way. SM
Who are the people who say that they are doing well financially with DQS?  I see them on boards saying that DQS is the best platform but I can't figure out how unless they were making a lot less before than I was.  It is strange for some people to be doing so badly on the platform and others to be incredibly satisfied and vocal about it.
Feel the same way ever since...
St. Louis and Chicago CSC combined into one - meaning one branch manager for both CSCs.

I have to work day and night between multiple accounts because they recently hired a bunch of new MTs. Talk about overstaffed!

So I guess this is how they repay MTs that have been loyal full-timers for them for many years - replace them with entry-level MTs.

I know the only out is to try another transciption company part-time to see if they're better but I just don't know if I have the energy to do that right now.
I often feel the same way...(sm)
Reading enough, one gets a feeling of hopelessness. VR taking over the better work, leaving the garbage for the rest. I sometimes wish MTs would stop to think what they're actually doing when they readily agree to take on VR editing. It reminds me of all of those IT techs who were forced to train E. Indians to do their jobs, knowing those same E.I.'s would be taking their jobs FROM them. This is actually worse, because those IT's didn't get a pay cut while doing it!

Some will say that you can't stop the technology...

Really? Where would that technology be without us?
    Know how you feel sm
I screwed up ilial/ileal.  I just said, um, um, you know, I goof this one everytime and always have to look it up, truthfully gave it my best shot. I was wrong and got the job anyway.
    Yes, lol! Feel the same.
If you think about it, anyone can basically score perfect on that with an open book and looking it all up on Google. I thought maybe it was timed so tried to rush through. Who knew? If they are not following it up with a typing portion, they're in for a rude awakening! Think about it, a nurse may pass that test with flying colors, but can she transcribe??? JMO.
