Alexa, I'm in the same boat as you are. I get pats on the back for my accuracy, but I do what you do (re-read) and this does take longer than not re-reading, and I have always wondered how some MTs get up to twice as much production done as me! If I can remember back 5 years, I believe I was taught that we HAD to re-read to ensure accuracy. This is the first time I've ever heard about proof while you type, so this is an eye opener to me. I'm like, you mean you can send a job without re-reading? I think the tips below are good, as I do some of them as well as re-reading. They make the re-reading go more quickly. In any case, for me it depends on the job. If its really straightforward, I just scan it, while with more difficult jobs I read more carefully. I also have a way of marking the words I want to look up after the whole job is transcribed, and I can then search for that marker to make sure I haven't missed any questionable words. I guess it really comes down to confidence. I dread getting any negative feedback and the price I pay is less production. It takes all kinds.
