I'll agree with Gourdpainter any old time

Gourdpainter, you are RIGHT! As a long-time -(sm)-
MT who has been applying at other jobs lately, I've come to the realization that MTSO's do NOT want experience and longevity in this field. It COSTS TOO MUCH! (Or so they THINK! I guess they don't factor in worker turnover, training time, software setup, errors, QA time, and possible loss of client into the equation).
I'm pretty sure that when a prospective employer sees 35 years' experience on my resume, they worry that:
1 - I'll want more money than they want to pay. (Which is true in most cases).
2 - I'll retire soon. (Which is FALSE - who can afford to retire anymore?)
3 - I don't have a CMT. (True, because I've been around long enough to know that it's a SCAM).
It's little wonder some of the big companies have been buying or starting MT schools lately. Not only is it yet another source of income, it also supplies them with a fresh supply of VICTIMS to feed upon (oops, I mean 'employees').
VAMPIRES. All of 'em.
I agree, gourdpainter...as I posted above, and have
stated once before on this board, we as MTs make a living typing, concentrating on not making errors - many of us perfectionists to a fault. These boards should be an opportunity for us to communicate without having to worry about being judged if we make mistakes - just type along and don't worry about it for a change, right? Who cares if someone makes typos or the grammar may be questionable. Apparently I was wrong to think that MTs wouldn't judge one another in that way. I really think it's time for me to consider not participating any longer on these boards - too many mean people.
Wow gourdpainter... I have followed you for a long time and I truly trust
your take on things... not that I don't others here, but you have proven to be honest and reliable. It truly is a reality check to me to hear this from you. If this happened to you, who is so honest and obviously reliable then what to the rest of us? If this kind of lack of loyalty to you what can someone like me expect? Thanks for taking the chance and writing this here... I know you may have blown your cover, but to some of us in the MT world out here alone and wondering what to do, you are a light in the darkness, and a guidepost to those of us who are uncertain who to trust. This MT does trust you, though anon, I feel like you are someone to take stock in and your opinion counts. I thank you for this post today. From an MT who wasn't sure what to do but appreciates so much your help. Thank you!
Oh, you'll get full time
but it will be full-time ESL. You won't get the full-time high line volume accounts unless you are a good ole girl. And the turnover there is frightening (because of the ESLs).
They'll definitely do it some time. You know they won't continue...sm
to pay us such a good rate when all the other companies are paying 3-5 cpl. If they all set their rates so low, there is nothing we can do about it if we want to continue to work. Their Town Hall meetings are always a pep talk followed by something that cuts your pay in the couple of years I've been there.

You'll see this poster every time something is said or asked about Keystrokes. sm
He/she has a bitter attitude about them but never provides specifics. I think everyone just ignores this person. I know I did, and I am glad as I love my job at Keystrokes. It did take a few weeks to get started but they were waiting on my ID from the hospital. It was worth the wait. I have been there 4 months now.
Give it time, they'll get to you. The grand plan is
my shoulder, it's a block(head). The games they play, the excuses/reasons are old, worn out, and it's aggravating to sit there staring at that NJA cyclops when others are getting the work. Dog-eat-dog is not conducive to a good work environment. We didn't create the situation but we bear the brunt.
If you spend a little time reading the archives you'll see
lots of posts about how many are unhappy at Focus and are looking or left.
I'll help! I left MQ at the time of this original post
I found a great job with a great US company, and have my self respect back. Enjoy my work again. Go USA!! Go MTs!!
You'll have too much down time and their Indian techs are IN India! Pay is late, too. nm

Thanks guys for taking the time to respond to my post. I'll go with the State job if offered.
I may do some PT/IC a couple days of the week just to keep my skills up and just in case they offer the lower rate of pay.
Gonna miss you Guys. Thanks for all your help.
I agree. Pay always on time.

I agree. And when it comes my time to die and I have to
at least I will have tried my best here on this earth. Wondering if some people plan to tell God that He needed to suck it up too... Can you imagine if God said that to us? He had the right to tell us to suck it up and go to Hades!
I agree 100%! I definitely think it's time to break them down! nm

I agree 10 minutes isn't much time. You never
know what might be THE job. Precyse lied to me too and did the IM thing the whole time, which I felt was very unprofessional. Fortunately for me I found out they lied to me very quickly and turned down their offer, though was so unimpressed with them I'm sure I would have turned them down even before I found out they were lying to me. The fact that they offshore was also a major factor.
Agree, everyone should keep appointments on time. nm
Have to agree. Tax time hits companies, too.

Agree! Been around a long time, and the work I see SM
coming in from overseas (in general, any foreign country)needs extensive editing. The medical terminology is not so much the issue, but rather the poor grasp of our language. The reports produced from my experience are quite an embarrassment to those in this profession who have worked very hard over the years. I can decipher a report typed by an ILP vs. an American MT the second I look at it. I have quit editing and refuse to edit reports typed by overseas MTs in the future. I decided that I will not be an enabler to fix the mess that comes in so a company can come out smelling like a rose. Give the work to those of us who have the years of experience and education in MT at a fair wage, and in the long run it will be cheaper, with little to no editing would be necessary. Hello? It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. I know, it never will be like the good old days, but we can only hope that some form of restriction will be implemented to keep companies from outsourcing our citizens' personal medical information overseas. We can only hope!
I agree...if they can't even tell you what you are producing every day time to move on...
good luck...

Agree. Don't waste your time buying
Word 2003 if you don't have it. They say lots of work and then there is nothing. Also check any QA you get back very carefully as I don't think the QA lady knows what she is doing and she also has an extremely condescending attitude if you have a question. I learned quickly to not ask since I didn't appreciate being talked to like I was 10 years old. I wasted my money on Word 2003 and I wished I hadn't.

If they aren't returning your calls now and ignoring you, imagine what it would be like if you worked for them?
I agree - mine used to be on Yahoo IM all the time (sm)
my supervisor AND team lead, plus a couple QA people....now, NONE of them are on or at least they are not showing....guess they are hiding from all the questions.

I think you are wise and spot-on. IMHO, the AAMT or whatever that silly sorority is calling itself these days did more to hurt the common MT than any other single factor. I have been in this business a looooong time and have never seen those folks do anything to help the MTs. On the other hand, they have been busily engaged in OFFSHORING and doing whatever else could line their pockets. Now I am off to bake a pie!
Gourdpainter
I agree with you about some people not having an ear for it. I think I may be defining zone differently than you do. I see so many people who are the proverbial mommies in jammies who think they can step right into 40K a year. That's not going to happen. Many people are not willing to do the work. By getting into the zone, for myself, I mean, letting my friends and family know not to call me during my work hours except for emergencies, working as professionally as if I were at an outside workplace, setting hourly production goals, etc. I think that if people realized how many interruptions they allow and put a stop to them, their income would increase from that alone. I do agree with you that some people do not have an ear for it. It is kind of like being a singer. I would love to sing but cannot carry a tune so that will never happen. I guess it is best I do not have the ambition of singing grand opera.

You and I are politically on the same page. When I left MQ and was interviewing with other companies, one of my first questions was Do you offshore? If they did I politely thanked them for their time but told them I believed in American jobs for American workers and would not work for them. I also believe that MTs who work for companies who offshore are helping undermine the American worker. As to the AAMT or whatever they are called now (I lost track), I have zero respect for them. I have yet to see one thing they have done for the American MT.
I don't think Gourdpainter is mean at all
I think she speaks the truth from experience. If you don't want to read her posts, move on to something else. She has as much right to be here as you do.
To: gourdpainter
Thank you for your feedback. I have several additional questions if you don't mind taking the time to answer them.
1. Why do you say ERs are going to VR in the future?
2. Do you feel your experience was different than most, or the typical ER scenario? I seem to recall many posts from people saying that they really love ER and I was wondering why, based upon what you are saying now.
Thanks.
Gourdpainter: Just an FYI.
Gourd is on my son's spelling list at school for next week. I thought of you immediately LOL. PS: This MT is an artist, and thought about gourd painting, looked up the web site you suggested, but it seems too difficult that is the cleaning and preparation. I admire your hard work. Easier for me to just type and paint canvas. But I would buy hand-painted gourds from you. Seems cool. Anyway, just wanted to let you know you were thought of re: Son's spelling list. You may even make it into his homework sentences. tee hee.
gourdpainter
You are so right on. On one of my jobs, I currently have a 90% almost all ESL account nobody else seemed to want and while other people are complaining of no work, I have tons of work all the time. I look at the ESLs as my job security. Any hour of the day or night that I want work, there is plenty. God bless the ESLs!
Oh Gourdpainter...
I so wish we could go out for drinks one night...we could howl the night away! I am LMAO, thank you cause it is the first time I have done such today!
gourdpainter
It just ticks me off that this happened to you. I would rather imagine that the ACLU might be interested in this infringement on your freedom of speech....
gourdpainter
Actually, I hope you get some pit bull lawyer and sue their, well, you know, off for malicious prosecution.
gourdpainter
I had the same thing happen to me. Another MT cyberstalked me because she did not like what I had posted. There are some real angels out there in cyberspace but there also, as they say in Brooklyn, some real pieces of work. Everyone needs to be careful.
gourdpainter
I can their karma cannot catch them soon enough, all the way from MQs minions down to the greedy mom and pops. Yes, there are a few greedy mom and pops still life, and a few really great ones, too. I don't paint everyone with the same brush by any means, but it does seem that ethics and kindness flew out the window about ten years ago in our industry. (I am NOT talking about my current company, but others I have worked for!) To the squids and the folks who have forgotten the rules of fair play, I can only say, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND! It's a rule of life.
gourdpainter
You are one wise woman. I feel really isolated, despite living in a big city. I also feel completely betrayed. When I was a little kid my parents taught me that should always be loyal and give my highest and best to any company I worked for, and I did it. (Silly me.) It would seem that we are just machines to be lugged around and plugged in and used up. Feh!
gourdpainter
Don't you have anything better to do? Like painting gourds? Halloween is coming, surely it is your busy time of year, no?
If you'll read through past posts you'll find lots of
recent info. Why do you need menitoring if you already work as an MT. Unless you do clinic work most companies will require you to work at least one weekend day, at least initially.
I have to agree. I have been with MQ for a very long time and things just keep getting worse and
worse. I can imaging this new pay plan that is such a guarded secret will not be to our advantage that is for sure unless you are willing to work 24/7/365 which is what they expect now to make money. You are constantly jumping from account to account and ASR has picked the good dictators out so it is a constant string of mushmouths left that ASR cant understand, etc. etc.
I totally agree 100% .... couldnt have said it better myself. Waste of time here
:(
I agree with the above poster. It is bad business to not pay your employees on time. I mean ....
after all, when was the last time you were able to tell your credit card companies, mortgage company etc.. hey, I am supposed to pay your bill on the 15th but it might be later than that, or may not at all. I mean GET REAL. Do these transcription companies not realize you have obligations too and you need to be paid on time. I think so...but they dont pay you..because they can. I would call them and them you want your check by Monday or you will take action, and once I had my check, SO LONG DEADBEATS. You deserve to be be paid.
agree! and when you point the finger at others? time for therapy.

I agree, the nonanswer about time clock was important to me too. NM
Gourdpainter, you're right--
we have too many people and not enough jobs. We need a temporary halt on immigration and tough rules to protect American workers.
Hey gourdpainter, I used to work for MRC before they SM

Yes, you are more than likely 100% correct in your assumption about Dictaphone. Did you ever notice that when Focus/Nuance/Dictaphone is advertising like mad, TT has oodles of work. When the Focus/Nuance/Dictaphone ads go away (i.e., they have hired a bunch), TT work dries up. Wow, what a chain of events. Of course, how could TT explain this to their people? Let's hope that people will remember this when there is another massive TT hiring spree, so that they won't be in the position to have to go through this. Your personal experience with them is indeed sorry. You probably were the ultimately loyal, caring, productive Transcriptionist they had. How sad!. Keep paintin' and smilin and have a wonderful day!
RE: Gourdpainter and TT lawsuit,...sm
Do you think you could go to work at ANY company and continually bash them, either online or to other employees and NOT get fired or sued. There is such a thing as libel and defamation, and that has nothing to do with Freedom of Speech. I have gone through the archives and am shocked at the things people say on here about the companies they STILL WORK FOR. I cannot imagine going to work for a company and to continuously badmouth them and to be able to keep my job!!! Someone else said on here in another post I read about not having to use your real name or be accountable for what you write on here and that is only to true, which is why I use my name!!! I have nothing to hide. If what you say is true, then you should be able to show your identity! You cannot knowingly lie or defame a company ANYWHERE, especially where it could potentially poison the pool of current or potential employees. If you are SOOO unhappy with the way things are where you work QUIT!!!! I have been through the ups and downs on work flow with Transtech too, but my intelligence tells me this happens everywhere! There was no change in payroll company since I have been here, almost a year, or if there was I had NO PROBLEMS and did not even notice. I had no rush to get my paperwork in or mistakes in my paycheck and whomever implied those things about TransTech's questionable payroll practices, deserves to be sued. You cannot say those kind of things about a company, especially when to my knowledge they are UNTRUE. That is defamation of character and NOT Freedom of Speech. They are owned by a parent company and THAT company does our payroll NOT TRansTEch themselves. Everyone really needs to do their homework on this sort of thing. This is EXACTLY what people get sued over and as well they should!!! There is a difference in stating you were unhappy, or if you did not get paid on time or not at all, but to continue to work somewhere, and then get on here and CONTINUOUSLY bash them, is just plain WRONG!! There are plenty more companies out there... find another one to work for if you are that unhappy!!. Again, I am NOT management and I have had problems that I needed to work out with them, but that is exactly what I did WORKED IT OUT WITH THEM! This is a company just as if you were working in an office, and there is protocol when working in a business environment that many of you just do not get! For those of you that do, this is obviously not meant for you!!! For those this does not pertain to, I know you will not be offended by this. If you are offended by this, this is obviously meant for you. Have a great day!
