I agree that QA is there to listen to blanks that the MT cannot understand...
However, there are times I see so many reports where people do not even try to find the blanks and think someone else is going to do that for them...I wouldn't spend hours finding a blank either but you made it sound as if you didn't even try to find the blank...obviously you are the type of MT who are not talking about so you shouldn't get offended...I don't think doing QA means your above anyone...you are there for an extra set of ears to see if you can hear a blank but some MTs take advantage of QA as a backup to not finishing the report...
oh wait, let me fill in the blanks:
you must be a bitter person to hate your job so much
there's no way VR will be able to do all the accents
once they go to India, they will be back for American quality
our jobs will never go away...
there. I already put them in there so no one has to run their long posts saying the same thing that is always said...
How do you cite sources but not fill in blanks?!
NM
Well, if she meant she doesn't want to fill in ANY blanks...
then she's gonna have trouble finding what she considers a decent QA job!
It they are 20-minute dictations with lots of blanks,
nm
Support bad, wouldnt repond, lots of stuff to fill in not
s
Yep. Like other poster said, lots in the archives. 99+% good feedback
on this company. Check the archives.
blanks are fine, just don't guess. hopefully others left the same blanks.

Lots of promises, no follow through. Lots and lots of internal sm
problems. She is recruiting heavy right now as she has a CHANCE at getting a big account back. Even if they get it back, they'll blow it again from poor management.
I totally agree, your story is mine and lots, and lots of others, please
believe me when I say Keystrokes has been honest like we used to have in this profession. If I can help one Transcriptionist avoid what we have, this will all be worth it. I worked parttime for Keystrokes at the time I was fulltime with ____ and quit, 2 years later I begged them to take me back after once again my paycheck was cut in half, and they did with open arms. I don't mean to run down anyone but a lot of these transcription companies are getting obscenely rich while paying below minimum wage to transcriptionists, playing with dictation and after working for a couple of them you know who is honest and who is not. Sorry I came down so hard but the reality is there are single mothers out there that I bet cry themselves to sleep not able to give their children a decent life because it is easier to steal from us. When companies have millions of dollar to pay for other transcription companies, open transcription schools in other countries, ect., ect., you know there is a lot of money in it. That is all I am saying.
I don't think we work at the same place, but I have been working lots and lots of hours.
Very thankful to have a decent job.
Lots and lots of recent stuff in archives.
Blanks
I've left blanks before in tests if I was not 100% sure, and it has never counted against me. They may have included difficult areas in the tests intentionally to see how you wound handle it. Good luck. I found KS to be too disorganized for my taste.
If I see blanks like that...
I provide the website I found it from and tell him/her to do the research...if I can find it easily, so can they...
Just a guess here but perhaps her blanks indicates she was willing to ask for help and
?
QA is more than filling in blanks and
3.5 cpl is ridiculous. People who take these jobs do not deserve any more than they wind up earning and they make these companies think they can get away with it. The only way to get paid to QA is to get paid by the hour, and I do not mean $10 an hour either! Shame on these companies. They will use the excuse that they cannot afford to pay higher. Don't buy it. It is not true. It is greed and nothing less.
Blanks on test
No, the dictator was pretty clear, but he said a few things that I just was not able to make out.
Question on blanks
I am a fairly green MT, but I do my best not to leave any unnecessary blanks.
I am wondering what types of blanks you run across that you feel are ridiculous and just out of laziness.
Can you give some examples?
Blanks do not count against you
They would rather you leave a blank than to guess. As with any company, there are ESLs. There are good ones and bad ones.
QA can be strict. We transcribe verbatim unless of course it is a gross medical error and then a blank is left and the report is sent to QA. If you type the wrong wrong word and it affects the meaning, it is a higher deduction but there is also a deduction for errors made not affecting the meaning.
I have worked for Axolotl for a long time and I have never worked for a better employer. If you have any questions you can e-mail me or post on here and I will try to answer you.
Don't listen!
Trust me, honey. If you want to find out about OSi, you don't need to be reading this board. All of the "ex-OSIers" get on here and criticize OSi for trying to weed out the bad employees and become a better company. They make assumptions of upper management when they really have NO IDEA. Then they wonder why THEY aren't invited to the home office parties or why OSI doesn't take their "parties" on the road. Well, I'll tell you why...because OSI doesn't want people like them at their parties. Would you want someone that does nothing but criticize you to come to your parties? I think NOT!
If you're really interested in working with OSI, this is not the place to research. OSI is a wonderful company and they treat their employees with respect. Some will tell you that OSI shorts them on lines, OSI gives the easy dictators to their "favorites", and so on and so on, but if you believe that then you're just as ignorant as the people saying it. OSI is growing VERY rapidly and will only continue to grow. If they really were doing all of this stuff, there's no way they would be where they are today. So--don't listen to all of the nonsense on these posts. It's nothing but a bunch of unintelligent people getting together to complain because they have nothing better to do with their time.
Well we know what it is really like and if they want to listen to em, then they
are passing up a great opportunity.
I am happy here. I guess that is all that counts.
You don't listen
You are not understanding. I was never told that they weren't hiring. I was told she was too busy to hire. Didn't you read my initial post??!! Also, there were many other things going on besides that. Like I said, I am not putting their business in the streets, just a fair warning. Oh, and by the way, I am not an MT.
Yes, but 100% listen
so it is really a cut in pay for me.
Don't listen to them...sm
I've used Meditech with rad before and averaged $25/hr. Just depends on how lines are counted, etc. You know how it is. It all depends on the company/client.
That's not VR. On VR, you have to listen to
every report the whole way through and make corrections throughout the report, and there are generally a lot of corrections to be made because VR isn't what it's cracked up to be. VR will never be able to go straight through to the client without a complete listen/edit. I think you're thinking of QA, not VR (voice recognition reports). QAs fill blanks and/or do full listens/grading AFTER the MT has already either transcribed or fully edited the VR report.
Listen to this
I just got to work (am on the West Coast) and all of my accounts are packed full of work. This after nearly two months of famine. I am not complaining, just amazed.
Blanks can be a good thing!
They prove you know what you don't know! Very important in this work. Just be sure that all else you transcribe is right on.
My goal was always for 100% (thanks Scrapper), but really no more than two blanks in say 3-6 reports, and that has landed me lots of offers.
My first test, btw, was with MedQuist. I asked before transcribing the test how the scoring system worked in order to judge when to say when if it got impossible. No harm in asking!
You aren't docked for blanks unless maybe
How does Axolotl define a line? Do they pay for spaces, headers, footers, & expansions? Are you docked for blanks or sending things to QA? If so, how much. you keep leaving the same blank after receiving corrections. They would rather you leave a blank than to guess. Line is 65 characters, pay for spacers. There are acute care and clinic accounts and I don't know if they pay differently for them as far as headers/footers. I have no footers, only have to fill in date in headers so not sure how they pay. I don't know why wouldn't get paid for expansions, I get paid for normals and I have some normals as expansions so I guess they do pay for them.
Figure out as much as you can and leave blanks.
Sometimes they give you a mumbler to see how you respond. Never guess... Just do the best you can and send it back. Good luck!
Mercy, of course filling in blanks is ok BUT
not 30, 40, 50 or 60 blanks in EVERY report from the SAME LAZY/UNTRAINED MTs. Don't criticize QAs who have a problem doing this baloney. One company I used to work for NEVER did audits and what they got was swiss cheese reports from people who didn't care, and I was simply wondering who the companies are who don't put up with that now since I've been away a few years. Thank you.
banning blanks in reports
How do you ban blanks in reports? I've been in the MT business, from the ground up, for years and sometimes even I can't hear what the heck the doc is saying. Are you saying that you put an asterisk in there instead of a blank or are you banning blanks altogether? That would make for a not-so-good end result I would think......once again, another tactic to give up quality which the entire MT world used to strive for. I was once very proud to be an MT, and now I don't even like to mention it, especially if I'm visiting the doctor's office. I always get an earful.
He probably means you have to send any blanks to QA.
Not so unusual. I have had accounts like that for years..first at YOG, then the evil Q, now at Webmedx. I suppose it gets resolved with the facility's QA/med recs.
In any event, I share your shame about this profession.
don't listen to these people
find out for yourself. There's a whole lot of MTs at MQ that have been 'around the block' a few times and have been w/them for years. MQ is the biggest for more than a few reasons, one being that they have more to offer.
I just don't want to have to listen to the whining when this happens, as you know it will. nm

careful what you listen to
You might want to find out from someone who knows. Call the office, check what the TAT log says. There is work, they have been doing overtime on many accounts. If that person posting isn't working, it is because they aren't trying to. There was just an email sent around that if you account was slower you could do a different platform, etc. Can't blame the company for this one - blame the one who sits back and waits for the company to come to them. Don't have to, too many others who are stepping up to the plate!
You should listen up to Listenup.
Listen, there is some truth to some of this
I just left spheris. I do not have anything bad to say about them. I simply woke up one day and decided to give my notice without having another job. I left 2 weeks ago, and today I accepted a job offer. I simply did not like working for Spheris. Nothing bad to say, but the reports I pulled for samples from India had a lot of typos. Whole pages were crossed out and medications spelled wrong. That is the truth. I often wondered how do they reach 98% accuracy. I really do not think the MTs in India could maintain 98% quality. My guess is they probably are not required to maintain any accuracy, because every report I pulled was really, really messed up.
Teletrak? did anyone listen to the
tapes on their site? They have voice files right there to listen or download.
I agree... but listen sm
The big nationals who underpay and push things through... nobody hires them anymore except for the most impossible hospital accounts. They are not going to last very long. Also, the best thing to do is for the companies to demand quality MTs and editors, pay well and take less profit, get better paying accounts.
Listen please. I've been at this many many
years. MDI is not DOING anything to you. I am confident they are not over-hiring. The doctors have to DICTATE consistently for there to be consistent work. It was just a few weeks ago with MDI that I didn't even take a day off for weeks as we were so busy. This morning, my accts are extremely low to empty. This business fluctuates, people, depending upon holidays, hospital deadlines, bla bla bla. Try to relax. It will not be this slow for long. I can tell you though, when the work was heavy, I felt almost alone out there -- very few people seemed willing to pitch in. I take the attitude to make hay while the sun shines. You newbies to MDI, if you'll just hang in there, I am confident you will be glad you did. Those that can't afford to, being this is SE status, you are certainly free to get back-up acct's with other companies for security. And don't neglect to talk with your liaisons, or even the recruiter. Let them know your needs/concerns. Things may look scary if you are new, but it is my firm belief that MDI will take care of you like no other company, and CARES like no other. Do what you have to, but I recommend hanging in there.
Listen to your second thoughts
As an employee, if your line counts is low for what ever reason, this puts your health insurance in jeopardy and happens too often. I would stay as IC.
You don't want to listen to this poster.
Really, it would be decent advice--except that you don't want to have anything whatsoever to do with Softscript! Try any other company but them. This person posting is either SS management or has never worked for them.
Do you give it back with the blanks filled in?
I send things to QA and never hear back until I prod and prod. This is a waste of my time as well only to hear from QA don't know, we sent through with the blank. If you are filling in the blanks, then you should be giving it back to the MT with the mistakes filled in and also a way for the MT to relisten. JMO. Is this MT doing the same doc or is she being thrown new ones to learn each day? As far as the timeframe for when will she learn, there are a lot of variables to that question in my opinion. Sorry to sound sort of like huh?, but you seem like you are sort of complaining about the job you chose. If you do not like QA, why not try going back to being an MT. JMO. Good luck with the MT though..
Not true. You are not dinged for anything coming through QA, blanks, etc. nm
.
You get paid for 15 lines no matter how many blanks
/
You get paid 15 lines for reports with any # of blanks
If you do a full listen you get paid for all the lines. They discourage this unless the MT is on 100% proofing because they have a massive backlog. My pay was roughly half of my pay as an MT and I was one who got fired a few months ago because they were doing away with QA's in the US. Can't imagine why they are hiring for US QA's again.
I QA'd a 4-minute report yesterday with over 100 blanks
..
