How do you get to work for both. Spheris told me it was conflict for me to have another job.

Especially with a national company. They wouldn't even talk to me about why I should leave MQ for them as long as I worked for their competition. How did you swing both jobs. I know MQ doesn't have a problem with me taking another position but Spheris was anal about it.

Not Spheris! They told me the only schedule
They said it was all that was available.
I was the go-to MT in my previous positions and always at the top of the QA pile and production at an acute care facility with 1000+ beds. Loads of experience and great education. Spheris recruiting could not have been less interested in talking with me (I know for a fact that my manager recommended me to them and spoke very highly of me), yet their ads looking for help are everywhere. How is it possible with all their openings that I'm assigned F-M evenings and nights?????
I wonder if there a way to talk directly to account supervisors? I know for a fact that the account for the F-M evening and nights has very, very few reports dictated at that hour. Why assign those hours when there is no work available?
I am no stranger to working as needed. I generally worked every single holiday and about 80% of the weekends. I worked early mornings, late at night, in the middle of the day at the convenience of my hospital in order to maintain their TAT.
This schedule makes no sense to me.
I have been told Clarity Control by Spheris. nm

Don't see it as a conflict
Work for the individual doctors was distinctly different from the work for the hospital itself. The doctors always went to the MR director if they were looking for someone to fill a vacancy, cover for vacation, etc., or they would wander into the transcription area and ask directly.
As noted, though, unless the physicians and their clinics are paid for by the hospital, it's no conflict. Ask yourself who does their clinic notes now. If it's not the hospital's transcription department, there's no conflict.
2 jobs conflict
It would be wonderful to only have 1 job but sometimes in this business you cannot make enough to pay the bills. I do however like the idea of only 1 job...is there a way to actually do that and get a good paycheck? I don't mean to sound naive, or pessimistic, but if you don't work for the same account through 2 vendors, is is truly a fireable offense? Again, your thoughts appreciated on this very interesting topic
Isn't that a conflict of interest? NM
nm
That would be a conflict of interests,
director to give you leads on doctors needing work, and also pursuing work from doctors at the hospital while you are an employee at the hospital. I worked in a hospital for many years and that sort of thing was strictly prohibited.
I was told Escription would not work with Vista. Turned out it wouldn't work with my sm
Office Basic Edition 2003 either, but no one could figure out why, it was supposed to.
There is actually a section on the Dell website that offers Windows XP. I haven't checked it out as I'm not in the market, so I don't know if it costs extra. I have a Dell and it's been fine for me. I hate the ESL tech department, but it seems like most of them have that now.
as far as needing certain hours that would conflict with IRS
but that is between the company and the worker.
I would agree with the conflict of interest..
I do wonder how many people actually get caught doing this. Our vendors do have people work for other hospitals to make sure they stay productive. I never thought about the situation until it happened. What is funny is that this 1 girl I knew worked as an employee with me, BUT also worked for 1 of the vendors and my boss knew about it. She doesn't work for the vendor anymore and she still works as an employee with us. That was the interesing part.
Not legal, more conflict of interest.... nm
nm
I don't see it as a conflict of interest. If you meet your
obligations to each company it isn't anyone's business what you do.
When you sign a contract with a company rarely is there a clause about not working for oneone else, only a noncomplete clause.
Now if you are using their equipment for the other company I see a major issue with that, maybe not illegal, but certainly not ethical. I
I use my own equipment, and there is no conflict of interest. sm
I would prefer to only work one full-time job, but there are things that I want (like a roof over my head and to pay the utilities - ha), and the only way I know how to get them is to work enough so that I can have them. My full-time job is acute care, and the PT jobs are clinic work, so it is nice change of pace for me ... at least as nice as still sitting all day and pounding a keyboard can be. The way the wages have gone down in this industry, it seems I have to work twice as hard to make half as much. I made more in 1983 than I do right now. Still ..... such is life. And when I want to have a little pity party about having to work so much, etc., I just think of those who do not even have a job or a place to stay, and I realize I should be grateful to be working at all.
Doesnt matter if YOU see it as conflict or not.

Conflict of interest working for 2 nationals
Just a question - back in 1998, it was considered a conflict of interest to work for 2 nationals such as Edix and Medquist. From what I see, it does not appear to be that way now. Can someone shed some light on this? For those who work for nationals - do they know you work for their competition? No flaming please - just curious.
I don't think there would be any greater conflict concerns than there would be with any kind

Conflict of interest working for 2 companies?
Has anyone ever come across a company that makes you sign paperwork stating that you are not working for another company. I need a second part-time job, finally found one and while filling out the paperwork I came across this. I didn't tell them I was working for another company during the interview but also did not deny it. Should I give up the second or just not tell?
yes, but I was told as an IC that if work was slow ICs get no work since they are nto employees
nm
That'd me the day someone told me I HAD to work OT.
MDI-MD told me it would work now. nm

ICs being told when they can and cannot work
With being an IC, the only requirement I had was I had to commit to a certain number of lines per day and they had to be completed between 1:00 am-11:59 pm of any given day. Some tried to pin me down to stating approximately what time I would be working daily, but since I am an IC and I cannot give an hour-by-hour commitment each day, I usually gave them a time frame of when approximately each day I would probably type the work such as anytime after 2:00 p.m. and before 11:00 p.m. However, they do expect you to make your daily line commitment.

I told her to off this job to someone in India.
Her response was she had people glad to work for 6 cpl with ONLY 5 YRS EXPERIENCE.
She should be able to afford ONLY 9 CPL . You would think anyway.
lol
You will be told that you can work remote,
And, there are a number of excuses that will be given as to the reason why. Pay is not toooooo bad. Would not go there. There are better jobs out there. Best of luck to you.
I was told there are no more accounts I can work on
and am getting sporadic work. I LOVE this company too, and they pay for down time which is incredible, but the work comes trickling in so I cannot claim no work, but it is just enough to keep me going.
Talking to IRS about how ICs are told to work
I wanted to let you know about what happened when I tried to talk to the IRS a few years ago about a fraud that I knew was happening, had all the information. This pertained to a woman scamming section 8, food stamps, welfare money (living with a guy with a city job yet claiming no money). Her children came to live with me for 2 years. I took total care, housing, food, etc. with no money from her. I claimed the kids on my income tax for those 2 years and come to find out her boyfriend also claimed the children on his taxes (remember when at home they were on all kinds of welfare and he probably was claiming them then- this is against the law and called double dipping). I got information from a tax preparer at my home, not mine, wanting to know if filing and called the place, found out he had claimed them in the past and then I contacted IRS. Oh, I also got notice from IRS that I was one of 2 filers who had claimed the kids! I had all the social security numbers, names, birthdates, all that I needed. This scamming on their end went on for several years and do you think anyone interested or would talk with me? Nah, nothing. No one contacted me or their parent. When I see the rah-rah about turning these companies in I am reminded of what I tried to do with just wasting my time in the long run.
Where I work we were told we HAD to get our lines in - sm
So right now many of us have been camping out at the computers fighting for every line we can get. Not sure I am going to last much longer at this pace.
When I asked about less and less work, I was told
that no MDI work is being done by Transcend because they have no access to the MDI platforms / clients. It was suggested that the economy may be taking its toll.
What?? they have asked you to work the account but never told you how much your pay is??
Sounds strange to me.. They would make me nervous as that should be the first thing they discuss.. or at least that is what I would want to know right off before I wasted my time with them.
I work on one that does not need high speed but have been told sm
that there are very few like that.
I was told when they needed help and that is when they expected me to work
so it is possible she was told what days and times, as that is pretty much what they said to me. Then work was never available during that time slot and so I opted to move on.
I was hired for 3rd shift and was told there was plenty of work
i was given 4 accts and still don't make money - that is all i am saying
H. told me the work was going back in house for some of the doctors. nm

I don't work there, but someone told me they don't have sick/PTO time. Yuck. NM

No experience, but was told that work is assigned, no pools, and it's still 8cpl as an IC. nm

I wasn't hired for 1 work type, but told them I like OPs so that is what I am assigned. When I r
out of ops, I usually stop unless we are out of TAT on other jobs because I do not want to take other people's work. I do not think I should get paid less for that.
Where I work I was told I had to get them in or be put back to PT status and lose benefits. nm

Well, when I purchased my computer tech support told me Vista would not work...sm
They said that it would work but it would cause a lot of problems because of the way the hot keys are setup on the Vista. They advised me against getting a computer with Vista. So it was very hard for me to find a computer that did not have Vista this year because everything had switched over. I bought a used one!!!! Just so I could avoid problems with my work.
I don't know if this helps or not. Just letting you know what I was told. Good luck!
but mgmt told me they outsourced some work to a small company at times.
There is no reason for me to lie about this.
I am NOT talking about offshoring, but the company whom they outsource to may offshore . . . I have no idea about that. But straight from the horse's mouth, they have outsourced to a small MTSO before.
You can notice how the work dries up all of a sudden when they turn it over to the service and we have no work.
TT mgmt may not tell that they outsource today, but they definitely told me about 9 months ago when I asked when the work was low. From the way the jobs disappear occasionally, I think it happens quite often.
Spheris has work and they would love to have you work

Spheris, anyone work for them...
If you work for Spheris could you email me off board and let me know what you think of this company as I have an interview call with them the last week of May.
Thanks,

I work for Spheris now. I don't know what their SM
health insurance will be like in a month or two when we find out our benefits (or lack of same). I don't know if they will even offer health insurance. That is what I am most frantic about.
I have friend at MQ and she says it isn't so bad. I know, I know, I hear otherwise, but honestly the money is secondary to insurance right now.
You don't want to work at Spheris, for sure, run, run. nm
.
Do you work for Spheris?
When I worked there a year ago they actually asked us to voluntarily make samples of our work to help train our overseas replacements, ON OUR OWN UNPAID TIME, yet!
Strangely, many of us declined, since our replacements were already getting the best accounts, better company computers than we had, and company sponsored picnics and bonuses (which we did not get). Somehow the spirit of giving a little bit more wasn't upon us.
Does anyone work for Spheris?...sm
I ask because my friend was telling me about a friend of her's situation. This girl works at Spheris, and the amount of work has went down so much she said that one day she only got to work 2 hours. She said her pay has went down $400 per month. She is so stressed she sits and cries. I don't blame her. Does anyone on here work there and also having this experience?
I work for Spheris too. SM
I completely agree about the platform. It's terrible and it's designed so you don't make any money.
However, getting angry at Indians isn't the answer. I personally believe the place is owned and run by Indians, but I don't consider that a major problem. It's just that their platform stinks.
If you still feel like discussing it, feel free to email me. I'm as disgusted as you.
