We're ALL earning slave wages. Our job should
You can make more money standing in the middle of highway construction zone with a 'slow' and 'stop' sign in your hand and your finger up your nose, than you can at even best-paying MTSO, these days.
Seems like you're enjoying it.
I'll run my posting past you for approval from now on, just in case you may think I'm voicing my opining that may differ from your own in an attempt to cause trouble.
Get over yourself, and maybe get a life separate from your keyboard.
Sad, yet typical.

slave wages
These companies really want a return to slavery for the worker. The sad thing is that if you need any income, you'll take it and there is desperation out there, which they are counting on.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
Slave wages??? Not here,
Why are you earning slave wages? Maybe you should take a look at YOURSELF and what is holding YOU back! Probably easier to blame the big bad corrupt MTSO for your problems. I am not earning slave wages. I consider the $20 I make per hour to be decent. For 18 months of schooling, it's not that bad. My husband is a company executive and just took a 15% cut in pay. Hey, maybe he should organize a union for beaten down and repressed executives. Now there's an idea!
You're happy your wages have stayed the
same, even though:
Gallon of milk, 1992: $2.78
2009: $3.75
Gallon of gas, 1992: $1.13
2009: $2.50+
Dozen eggs, 1992: $0.93
2009: $2.25
So your salary stayed the same while everything else skyrocketed... yay!
And according to the IIAP, the median salary for a 'secretary' in 1992 was around $25,000, and in 2005 was already up to around $40,000 (no stats listed for 2009 yet). So are you still feeling good about sliding backwards?
you are working slave wages! Companies sm
were paying that wage in 1980 where I lived at and that was on the gross line not 65 character. I just got hired by a company today that their base rate is 8 cpl and goes higher for experience. You are getting ripped off for sure!
editing rates are 1.5 cents per line....can you say SLAVE WAGES??
GrammEr? Hope you're not QA also!

Gee, I really hope you're not certified....
being you can't spell right LOLOLOLOL
6 cpl - I hope you're talking about
editing, here. You have 4 years' acute care experience and should be making at least 8 cpl. IC should pay more since they don't have to pay benefits. Check the job board out. I'm sure you'll find something.
I just hope you're not back here a (sm)
month from now claiming someone or some company took your money for a newbie chance or internship type situation and it was a scam. If there was a legit company, the post could have just posted without the need for asking for private contact.
You go, Girl! Hope you're feeling better! nm

Don't understand your post. I hope you're not sm
faulting the MTs who are stuck with dialup because DSL/broadband is not offered in their areas.
I hope I don't get that account you're talking about either.
I am a little scared now.
Hope they're already told the employees at the hospital that they are out of a job. I don't t
they should post specifics like this.
Well, I HOPE they're a good place to work...
... since I worked for TRS and thus got acquired by Transcend when TRS did.
Interestingly... when I was job-hunting about 7 months ago, I basically read every entry in the MT Companies section of another forum (M T Chat)looking for companies that got good reviews. Because it got very good reviews there, Transcend was the second-to-last company I applied to, just before TRS. At that time, Transcend was only testing for acute care (my 36 years of clinical in multiple specialties wasn't good enough, I guess) so they told me no thanks. And now they've got me anyway.
I am still reserving judgment because the merger only happened 2 weeks ago; and I am still working on my same accounts, under the same supervisors, on the same platform, so there have been no visible changes as yet....
Sincerely, I do hope you're prepared to work for 8 cpl now
Apparently MDI was one of the companies that paid their experienced MTs pretty well.
With the merge, you'll be making less eventually. If you quit and look for a new job, you'll be making less, way less, than you were making at MDI.
I'm another one who's BTDT, too. I went from making 11 cpl to now making 8 cpl. I tried HARD to find any company, obscure to well known, that will start off more than that. Couldn't find 'em. Probably won't ever go up, either.
Just sayin' that you should be prepared to budget your living costs for the amount of money you'll be missing each month compared to what you were making at MDI. It's awful, I know, been through it. Going to school now to do something else, getting out.
I hope they keep posting. They're showing everyone their true colors. :) nm

hope so! they're hiring like crazy now, editors & MTs evidently ~nm
Deb Garrison, I hope you're reading this board, because I'm coming at you with one hell of a l
I know that there are a lot of you out there who are owed money. Some of you are owed LOTS of money and Deb just spends it on herself. You'll likely NEVER get paid, but together you can all make sure she never runs an MTSO again. But, what needs to happen is ALL MTs screwed out of their paychecks must come together for this to actually happen. You all can email me at flagfootballcoach@gmail.com and we will pull together and bring down the hammer on this woman. She has had too many different businesses, taken people for their hard earned money, and needs to be shut down for good.
tons of work because no one wants to work for slave wages
think about it
So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.
Not the OP, but they're supposed to take out all the other taxes as you're an employee with th
s
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.
ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.
Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!
This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
Hey, you're in luck then. They're hiring! (nm)

We're not 'so scared' of it. We're trying to help

I hope you're right. I've been waiting 4 wks for an ID - still waiting! nm

You're right on it! They're just trying to cause panic.

How can you KNOW what you're doing without THINKING you know what you're doing?

they're desperate because they're sm
driving away all their employees with the horrible new changes they're implementing. It's a mass exodus, and they couldn't keep up with their work load before all the departures.
We're glad you're gone too.
The more people that quit, the more work left for me. I love it when people say they can't take doing MT anymore.

Since there are so many MTSOs enjoying the board
give us your side - tell us about your company, what you offer, how many times checks have been late, what your true TAT for IC's are, and what you feel our problem is with dealing with those issues that appear to be your problem.
Don't forget to leave your name so we can come sign up right away. We use this site for information - good bad or indifferent - do not post an employment ad - post like the basic run of the mill IC posts - state facts about your company and set us straight - rather than one liners about how great your company is trying to get us all to believe you are an IC as well. I would work for an honest MTSO that let me know there would be a problem with payroll in advance so I could adjust my situation accordingly, than for someone who dodges the question all the time, or for someone who gave me a workload to keep me busy for a lower line count than have me on call for work that never comes at a higher rate - at least I know I am working.
So come one - give us the facts about your company honestly.
I bet my eye teeth that not one MTSO will post a response with only the information requested, instead of a bunch of banter. So let's see - prove me wrong. I am particularly interested in the KS, TTS, D&L, and Medware - as they seem to be the ones that make us all worry
How do you know that the owners are enjoying the profits?
If she or he is, great. That's the reason you go into business. Personally, I would not want the stress or the responsibility. With this economy getting worse, business owners are taking on the stress. They can keep it.
And who cares if the owners are enjoying the profits???
It's their business anyway! Are you saying if you owned your own business you wouldn't enjoy the profits WHO WOULDN'T. Please. Keystrokes is a super company and the CEO, managers, co-workers, everyone is awesome!
1K a month is about what many MTs are earning - sm
That's less than working at 7-11 for min wage. I guess that doesn't bother some of us.
IC earning limit for one company???
Has anyone heard of a law that says you cannot make more than 25,000 a year for one company as an independent contractor? You can make 50,000 if it is 2 different companies, but one company cannot pay you more than 25,000 a year and if they do, then you must be employee status???? Please email me or respond if you have any information on this. Thank you!
I think they're new. nm

now we're getting somewhere....
Great qualities... absolutely. Can you be more specific. What type of communication do you think works? What doesn't? Concern is also important. But how far should it go. Certainly a company needs to be understanding if an MT has some problems, but remembering it is not the company's job to take care of someone, what about when the MT is not producing or working when scheduled? How long do you let it go on? What if the MT has chronic problems. What is the company's role here?
I can say my boss was ALWAYS flexible with my schedule, but I also made sure that I made up the time and the lines. I didn't abuse it.
You're better off
Someone else will appreciate your abilities.
You're welcome; here's what I can tell you ...
Spheris' family insurance is with United Healthcare and the premium for family coverage is about $180 per payperiod (2-weeks).
As far as PTO with Spheris, as a FT employee, you would earn 10 days a year for your first 5 years of service, then it goes up from there.
I hope that gives you a guideline to go by.
