Honestly, I gained my first experience with Escription working for Focus. It was my first online job

So I stayed long enough to get comfortable and then moved on. It was a weird experience working with supervisors in India and the lack of communication but I never intended on staying. I bit the bullet, got my experience and left.

Perhaps you should have mentioned that a lot of experience can be gained in 2 years.

I am working on it - haven't run out yet- honestly
nm
I honestly hope you will have a good experience with Keystrokes

I'm sure that not all the supervisors were as hyper as the one I had - she drove me crazy, wanting me to work practically 24/7. The last couple of months I was there, during a 63-day period, I only had 3 real days off where I didn't work at least a couple of hours which ended up turning into five or six. Add that to working 10-12 hours during my 8-hour work days, and I just plain got burnt out.

But that was only one particular client (if you would like the name, please email me). I am sure there were other clients that she could have given me, but she kept assuring me that this was the best client she had.

So I would just say make sure your lead is 1) looking out foryou and 2) telling you the truth (the third time I caught mine in a lie, I quit).

Good luck!

that was working for a hospital direct, honestly calibrated line count...
11 cpl, easy, easy dictators on a pull up a number, type/type, save and repeat system.

those days have been discussed on this board before, and those days, unfortunately, are over.

It's a buyers market.
Escription/Focus
I work for Focus part-time and they treat me just fine.  I appreciate them because I started as a newbie almost one year ago to this day and they showed me the ropes with excellent training and gave me a chance, which was very hard to come by with other companies.  I love VR and using Escription, but if you are a super productive typist you may not prefer VR at all.  In the beginning Focus would sometimes run out of work so I had to look for full-time employment.  Now I am trained on a clinic and an acute care account and I barely have time to keep up with all the work there is available for me!  I wish it had been that way when I first started, but I plan to stay with them and work when I can.  I have read all the negative posts about them, but I have only had a positive experience.
Focus QA who use Escription
On reports where you are only filling in blanks (not 100% QA) how are you paid? This is regarding on the escription platform only. TIA
Focus /escription

Focus and escription are not the same company.  Escription is a software/transcription platform.  Focus is a transcription company that gets accounts that are on the eScription platform.  Focus and eScription are two entirely different accounts.  I think that Focus is trying to say that they need MTs for accounts on the eScription platform.

Also, my experience with this company was not a good one at all.  Offshore people QA your work and their communication is greatly lacking.

Ditto.. Over 13 years experience working in hospitals doing all types of reports, currently working
for a national etc.. and Spheris told me I didnt have the qualifications. What cracked me up was the hospital I was working at at the time contracted some of our work out to them.. What a joke..I was good enough to work for a hospital and gave them work, yet not qualified enough for them. What is wrong with this picture.

Focus Infomatics Escription LPH
I am wondering if there is anyone who works for Focus Infomatics and uses the escription platform? If so, can you tell me how many lines per hour you average? I have heard a lot of MTs who make 500 and 600 lph using the escription platform. But then I have also heard a lot of MTs complain that they do not make much money working for Focus Infomatics.
Focus/Escription...should I bother?
Escription is my favorite platform and I am looking to make a change. I am considering Focus. I read previously that Escription MTs were running out of work often. Is this still the case?
Focus/eScription information
See Not Enough MTs below.  Focus and eScription are the same company.
Anybody here on escription/editscript with Focus Infomatics?
Are you paid for all lines on this platform? Is it pretty easy to make good money?
With Nuance buying Focus, what will happen to the eScription accounts? sm

I really don't think eScription is going to like the fact that Dictaphone/Nuance is going to be working on their platform and learning their secrets to their software.........do you?

This is so interesting to me as I am an eScription editor.  Maybe it is time I start my own business again and contact all of the eScription hospital accounts or contact eScription and get their input on this.

In reading Nuance's press release, Bringham Women's Hospital is an eScription account not a dictaphone account.   Very interesting......Don't you think?  Would love to hear opinions on this.

Any currently working on the Escription platform... sm

How are you with the straight jobs versus the speech recognition?  Are you doing both?  Is Escription much better than Extext?  Are you able to double your lines with Escription VR.  Thanks for sharing.

Three years Escription experience and 5 cpl which is better than 4 cpl
but wouldnt 11 cpl be nice.. bummer for us..
Has anyone had experience with both eScription and ASR @Wedmedx? I hear a lot of sm
good things about eScription, but I don't have amnything to compare it to (except ASR at Webmedx). Anyone?
Working for Focus
The latest issue with Focus is that the Indian Manager on this one account claims that p.o. is a JCAHO dangerous abbreviation and should be replaced by orally.  So far, I have not been able to verify this information.  But, the Indian QA took it upon themselves to give me points off for writing 25 mg p.o. instead of 25 mg orally just this past week.  I have issued a formal complaint with a request to see their references to this p.o. issue.  My point is, when it comes to details like this, it is very difficult to communicate with the Indian managers and/or QA department.
Working for a Vendor for FOCUS???
seems to me like you would be getting less money if you are subcontracting from a vendor for focus...
Anyone working for Focus Infomatics sm
I have been contacted about a QA position and it will be VR.  The pay per line seems fine and the benefits seem to be extremely affordable.  Any comments from anyone on this company?  TIA
Company Focus Informatics, Inc. Anyone working there please let me know how it is. nm
:
Anyone hired in Focus Infomatics actually working?
I know I picked a popular schedule but thought that maybe my 2nd week in there might be charts. I am not able to flex every single day as I have another job. Anyone hired there in the last 2 weeks for a specific account actually working?
My experience with Focus
I worked in QA at Focus and had to quit to stay with my mom after she was injured in an accident. Every MT and QA must pass a test about the account specifics before they are even issued an ID. Consequently MTs did not abuse QA with a lot of blanks, as a rule. I enjoyed my time there and hope to return to Focus once mom has fully recovered.
My Focus experience
On a positive note I can tell you that the staff was WONDERFUL, I'm talking EVERYBODY was super nice and super helpful in trying to make sure I could get work.  If you like VR then it would be good for you as well, as probably 80% of my work was VR.  The ONLY problem that I had is the whole concept that you have to clock in when there is work, clock out when work runs out, but yet you are REQUIRED to sit at your computer constantly checking for work and not getting paid to do so.  Focus is not the only company with this practice, so if that doesn't bother you, then I don't think they are so bad to work for.  They do have benefits, pay is on time, incentive programs and they are flexible as far as what shift you want to work and whether you want it to be part-time or full-time, but not flexible at all as far as you MUST be at your computer for your 8-hour shift, regardless if there is work or not.
UPDATE ON MY FOCUS EXPERIENCE

I'm only sharing my experiences in hopes that it will help others.  It is not in my character to sit back and be silent.  I thank mtstars for allowing us this forum to help each other.

I'm finally DONE with Focus Infomatics / Nuance.

I used to post a lot of positive information here about my job at Focus Infomatics/Nuance.  (Nuance bought Focus Infomatics in 2007).  It used to be a very nice company to work for, IMHO.  Anyway, the working conditions were on the decline over the past year, but started to go really sour a couple of months ago.

A lot of people have complained about India being involved in the medical transcription industry, and I do understand the concerns about offshoring, but I would LOVE to have my Indian manager back.  The American lady that took his place is simply cruel.  I have no other word to describe her.  If I had waited for her to give me work, my family would be starving.

I did stay for awhile, hoping that an adjustment period for new management would end in a positive way, but that just hasn't happened.  It is getting worse and worse.  I guess I can't blame the new HR director, as he had absolutely no experience in the medical transcription industry, or even the medical field, prior to working for Focus/Nuance.  According to his online resume, he was a Marine recruiter and then worked for Reebok, among others.  So, he likely is just following someone else's orders.

I've found another MT job, at a company that seems to care that an employee succeeds and has enough work on an account that matches his/her experience and preferences.  Though I am prepared for many surprises along the way and won't be too shocked or devastated if the bubble is burst soon into the game, it couldn't be any worse than it is now at Focus Infomatics.

The main thing that I cannot forgive Focus for is hiring more people when I don't have enough work.  I have received excellent monthly reviews, so they cannot tell me that their silence is due to my inability to produce.  Maybe they want me to quit because I am a high producer; who knows.

At any rate, I must thank Focus Infomatics/Nuance for the learning experience.  When I write my book, I will certainly include these experiences in it.

Best to all of you who are current or future employees of Focus Infomatics/ Nuance.

Gained even more since 76!
Congrats fellow class of 76er on the 10 lb. weight gain - I've gained about 100 - but as a guy I like to think it just makes me look "rugged."
what is gained
in making a test difficult to hear unless that is the way all your dictation is. If that is the case, beware.

I would assume you would make a test to a degree of terminology difficulty that you expect in a new hire, but other than that clear.

Quig.
I have experience working
I have experience in these specialties: family practice, internal medicine, cardiology, hem/onc, ENT, allergy, orthopedics, urology/urologic oncology, and pulmonology. I am looking for a job, and you can e-mail me if you would like to.
Focus Infomatics--Anyone have any experience with their insurance benefits, good rate, etc..
Yes, I know all there is to know about them in the negative form but people respond only if you know about their insurance plan. Thanks
I have NO experience. I started out working
for a group of radiologists and working my way up to Medquist. I have a B.A. and M.A., but I must say that I studied anatomy and physiology, chemistry, nursing math, microbiology at the local community college which helped me on testing. I couldn't have passed MT tests without these courses. The rest of what I did was fast-talk my way in the door. Good Luck!!!
Its been my experience, even when working in the hospital sm
that MTs with seniority usually get the worst work because it is the more difficult work and newbies usually cannot handle it. Unfortunately, thats the way it works in this field...the more experience you have, the more likely you are to get the crap work. That work has to get done too!
I had a BAD experience with working with Indians...nm

Gained about 26 or 27 since graduation in 1977, but
didn't weigh but 98 back then. Not too shabby.
Yup, and there's the extra hours gained
Gives nearly a whole extra day to get the work done because of the date/time line.
Anyone here working for Medivoxx that can share experience with them? nm
xxxxxx
No, I haven't been. I told my true experience of working for that company.
I don't have a negative attitude.  You're the one who can't handle it when someone disagrees with you.
Good for you. I've gained 10 pounds since high school graduation in 1976.

Just be aware that not all Escription accounts pay the same. I worked for one company on Escription
struggling to maybe make $50 in 8-10 hours. I didnt know the difference as that was my first job on that platform and I just thought it was not a money maker. Then, I switched companies. I average $20-30 an hour and once I made $50 in an hour. I tried yet another company and I was lucky to make $9 an hour. The bottom line is that not all companies are alike, even though they use the Escription platform. What I have found is that goes according to how they set it up i.e. paying for footers, headers, spaces etc. Just dont be shocked if you dont make what you think you will. The companies know how to set it to where it benefits them and not you. As is the norm, not all companies are created equal out there regardless if they all use the same platform. That is what I am getting out.. Good luck.
Focus, focus, focus on your work. It's amazing what you can do! nm

that's why I went with online
I had the same situation. Was being paid about $14.5 w/nighttime differential. Myself and 2 other MTs in the hospital did all the work (out of about 6 total) and were paid the lowest. When they hired someone who supposedly had a lot of experience that did not know basic rad terminology (and I mean this was REAL bad) and typed no more than 12 simple chest/bone reports in a 5-hr day and wouldn't fire her, I quit.

Best move I ever made. Went COBRA for 18 mos. Would never go back. They called about 6 mos later asking if I cd prn (they were 700 reports behind with the 2 other top MTs out) & I told them $20/hr and they wouldn't do it - so no go for me.
on their online app, it says they don't have PT.

where is the online EC
nm
They have ads online, just none on here.
They have ads out all over the internet saying they are hiring, just none on here and I applied.  They offered me the position the day after I applied and I got suspicious after I realized they didn't even require me to take any sort of test or anything.  I hate that they sent me the equipment BEFORE they gave me this info, but I am going to mail it right back to them, it sounds too shady to me as well.
Well I tried looking online for information
but there was none of any help. I think that is a sign to decline the offer.
This is for online work...
maybe you have a backlog on C-phone work, but always a shortage with online.
OK- I didn't know they had online AND
C-Phone work.  I may still apply....
Thanks...I went online and applied. nm

Online testing
Does anyone else have a problem with online testing for a company, in response to an ad on the job board, before even speaking with a recruiter or person from the company?  The ad gives no indication of pay or the shift they are hiring for - do I spend time taking a test and then find out the hours I need are not available?  Do I spend time taking a test, then find out the pay is so low and the insurance so high that I would not have applied, had I known this before hand?  Does it feel kind of impersonal to take a test without even having had contact with a person?  Do you  spend time taking the test and hope the hours are what you want or do you just ignore this job posting?
Applying online....
On www.mditrans.net there is a link on the left that says apply online. I don't think there is a link to apply online at the other site, just email/phone numbers if you wish to contact them.
