High line rate versus possible lines per hour....

I'd like your opinions...  I think it's more important to be able to produce a high line count than what your actual cents per line rate is.  $0.10/line means nothing to me if I have to struggle to produce 200 lines per hour because of their format or platform.  I'd rather make $0.07/line if I can count on producing 500 lines per hour.

Just something to think about when you interview with a potential employer who tries to dazzle you with a high line rate.  I always ask about the average line counts and if they have auto-populated headings.  We don't get paid for auto-populated headings (which can make a significant difference in our line counts), yet I'm sure the service bills the hospital for them.

That would be high line count not rate. Sorry about that. NM

even if you are only doing 1400 lines a day at 8 cents a line that is still $15 an hour...

How many jobs are you going to get outside of the home making $15 an hour, especially in this economy and most parts of the country?  That is only 175 lines an hour and most nationals expect at least 150 an hour, so that is not that much of a push.  If you do 200 lines an hour, or 1600 lines a day, look at the raise and that is $16 an hour.  This is also only making 8 cents a line, which by the time you are making over 1300 lines a day you probably are getting some sort of incentive, at least a lot of companies you do, and that would push this number up even more.

I used to be a graphic designer for many years and to this day pay for a good designer is only $12 to $14 an hour and you have to commute to the job, so how is it not realistic to make this type of money.  I do not see where your logic is and if you are making so bad then maybe it is time to re-look at your profession and find something that is more a fit to you and make the money you deserve.  I just do not see how making a minimum of $14 an hour is so unrealistic.  Geez.

think, people! If she does 250 lines/hour, same docs daily, will make $15/hour
nm
1800 lines is easily achieved. I average 300-340 lines per hour. nm
x
I think decent is $12-15/hour; not really low, not really high.
nm
Yes it is possible to double your lines. I cant type 460 lines an hour but I can get those with VR
x
Well if I could do 500 lines per hour, I would be making 35.00 an hour. sm
nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
is the VR line rate 60% of the regular typing line rate?

Could someone help me with the figuring out of gross line versus character line? sm
I have generally been paid by character line, 65-character line.  Now, I have had job opportunities offering to pay gross line but it like 3 cents cheaper than what I am being paid now.  A few places I have read that gross line is MUCH better, but is it much better if the pay is so much lower?  Please explain how it works or equals out.  This position has offered me 6 cents per gross line - what would that equal out to in character lines?  Thanks...so confused...
MDI versus MedScribe versus SoftScript versus Transsolutions versus TransHealth. SM

I'm getting ready to start applying and these are the companies that I'm looking at.  So give me the low-down.  Good, bad, India?

Here are my criteria:

9 cpl or better

Does NOT send work to India

Good accounts with at least 50/50 of ESL versus American dictators

Consistent work flow - no downtime or time spent waiting for work

Upper management should be professional, positive, and encouraging.

Pay for lines WITH spaces.

Is there such a job out there or am I just dreaming?  If there are other companies other than the ones I listed that would fit the bill, please feel free to let me know. I tested with TransHealth and I felt like I tanked.  It was a hard test and I had to use the mouse to stop and start the dictation as it was online test and you couldn't download the voice files.  So that made it a lot more difficult.  One of the dictators was cutting himself off through the report and I had to leave some blanks.  I'm very frustrated with this whole process of looking and testing.  Are all the tests like that?  Or are there companies that allow you download the test files and transcribe them using your pedal and software?  Ugh!  I am just so frustrated and discouraged.

Thanks for any helpf.

I took that to mean you can get to that rate after 1600 lines and that is not the starting rate.
:
Very high turnover rate at this company (sm)
You have to ask yourself why do they lose so many employees. This is not an MT oriented company. I would say that they constantly advertise because they regularly lose MTs.
MQ-New Testing for high tier pay rate

one more thought for the evening on the tier pay rates

are these rates for new hires or will our rate of pay be adjusted according to the stated tier

and does the testing only apply for new hires

any where on the packet does it actually state what your present rate is and if not, and all the packets being sent out are the same, why were we all called--do we have to sign anything and send it back to MQ and when does all this go into effect

thanks for all your help

For Escription I think 4 to 4.5 base rate, which seems to be on the high
end of the scale that companies pay for Escription editing. Hope that helps.
Actually, a high turnover rate more likely means
that the GOOD MTs are staying put and the MTs who had to cheat on their test and/or lie during their interview, have no experience, or are just job hoppers tend to run off when they can't hack the accounts they have been assigned.
A high turnover rate means all the good MTs

leave and only MTs left at the company are probably the ones who had trouble getting the job they have let alone leaving to find a new one.  That's what a high turnover rate means.  Not to mention, why would anyone want to work for a company with a high turnover rate?  Something's wrong if people keep leaving.

It's called logic and deductive reasoning.  And some people in this neck of the cyber woods are sorely lacking in both.

High turnover rate? I don't think so. I have worked with the same group sm
for the past 2 years and the only change has been that the account got busier and 5 or 6 people were added. Keystrokes is a great company, and they do a lot for all of us.
lines versus reports
I have a question for you seasoned radiology transcriptionist. I have been a Transcriptionist since 1995. Most jobs I have worked at required 1150 to 1250 lines per day. I now work for a place that 120 reports per day. I have never had a problem with acheiving my quota until now.............some days we have a lot of long_________dictators and I have trouble reaching the 120 reports. Today I typed 1240 lines, but only had only typed 58 reports by the half of my shift............. On the days that I have mixed reports, some short, some medium, some long, I don't have any trouble meeting my quota. What is the usual requirement per report. I feel like I am spinning my wheels and am very discouraged as I like everything else about this job. I have talked with my supervisor, but I get the feeling she/he does not really want to be bothered.................
Minutes versus lines
Just thought I would share my experience. I am working for a company who counts minutes and most of us are lucky to get 10 minutes of dictation done in an hour. In this case though, we are constantly pulling info into and out of the EMR to complete reports. On paper, it looked like this could be a very lucrative job - NOT! It is impossible to get any sort of rhythm going for productivity, coupled with many reports which are all of 20 and 30 seconds long and can easily take 10-15 minutes to complete. When I do get a straight 10 minute dictation though, it is completed in about 20 minutes, so based on that I would also think the 10 minutes = 100 lines is a fair comparison as long as it is straight transcription.
Lines versus minutes?
Which one do you generally come out better getting paid for?  I realize that there are instances where one would be more favored than the other but as a whole, which is better.....
Pay for lines versus minutes
I have been paid both ways and have always come out better with lines. When dictators are pretty good and move on, there is a huge advantage to lines over minutes.
Vonage uses your DSL high-speed lines.
Doesn't affect your local service at all and won't replace it, either. It's the same concept as having your DSL and regular phone service.
Insurance way too high. 12,000 lines per pay period.
All they offer are the few days of PTO. That does not include sick days or personal days and if you take a holiday off you will also have to use PTO to get paid for it, only pay for holidays if you work um.

My friend told me that there is no way she will be able to make the minimum line requirement after being switched to a VA account. She also said that on a whole their accounts are lousy and QA is very inconsistent.

I misread that, phew! I couldn't believe the offshore rate was THAT high (yet anyway). nm

legality of hours versus lines
Has anyone ever questioned with a labor organization of any kind the legality of being paid by piece work (lines) but having to adhere to full time hours? Something doesn't seem quite right to me about this.  If the hours are enforced then we should be paid by them, right? Even a daily mandatory quota of say 1000 lines for full time makes sense versus 8 hour time sheets.  How can this be legal? If not shouldn't we all be independent contractors?  I will seriously have to consider leaving full time work if MQ enforces 40 hours per pay period but they are not the only ones with this practice.  It seems if one gets away with it they all do.  Any thoughts on this?
Gross lines versus 65 character
What is 7 or 8 cpl gross equivalent to in 65 character
Their line rate was less than my current nat'l rate, even with mucho experience. nm
no msg
VR rate is 1/2 rate of traditional typing,I believe it is 4 cents line.

Pays per page, top rate less than what I made 10 yeasr ago, benefits high
.
High turnover rate with good reason; email for info.
nm
Webmedx ASR rate is 70% of your regular line rate. sm
So if you are on a 9 cpl account, you get 6.3 CPL plus any bonus / incentives / shift differential.
Is the ASR line rate 1/2 of transcription line rate? sm
Reason I ask is that I assume if they have ASR now that eventually all will be ASR except of course for the awful dictators as this seems to be the norm.
My rate usually on an 8 hour day
is in the 20+ range. I just checked and at the 4 hour period I had over $96 so far. I might be able to do more if I stayed off this site....
If that's $9.50 an hour, that would be just under 6.5 cpl at 150 lines an hour. nm
s
Oh, they make money off us. Line rate is 17 cents a gross line.nm

How many lines do you do an hour?
I type 350-400 and edit about 325-375.  What about you??
300 Lines An Hour
Very doubtful...What on earth account are you doing...There are several of us above and beyond experienced and familiar with DQS and no way can you produce that on a daily basis..Sorry Charley...Must be incognito staff..Rha Rha Rha
Wow ... 400+ lines per hour ... my hat's off to you :-) sm

If I sit and totally focus and make my fingers fly as fast as they can, I can do 400 lines in an hour ....... but just for that ONE hour.  After that, it's a law of diminishing returns.   I tried it one day ... 410 the first hour, 375 the next, then 310 ... and then it was nap time!  (smile)

I have thought about getting into QA at least part-time.  I have to do lots of stretching exercises and load up on Advil, or my tendinitis flares and then I can't do much of anything.

Thanks for validating what I said.  I wasn't trying to brag or anything -- maybe I came off wrong.    Maybe I should tell Dorothy I need a bonus for defending the company (smile).

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I do 300 to 450 lines/hour (sm)
on a very slow platform.  Are you making full use of Instant Text and normals?  Feel free to email me, as depending on your experience, I may be able to suggest a service or two.  Sorry, mine isn't hiring.
I mean lines per hour not per day

Lines per hour-sm

Hi Ladies (& guys),

I could really use your help.  For full time status (employee or IC, doesn't really matter) what is your minimum line quota?  Just a short reply is all I need.  My manager is looking for averages to give to her director.  We're getting high numbers from an outside consulting firm (170-200 lph minimum for full time, 8 hour per day, 40 hour per week staff.)

Anonymous is okay, but known company info would be cool if you know what they require, regardless if you work for them or not.  We're just looking for basic rates, i.e., how much do you have to type to keep your full-time status.

Thanks so much!

892 lines per hour is ANOTHER LIE .... sm
Your first lie was that you typed 130 words per minute. Nobody typing that fast would put up with VR.

Read all the posts. 50,000 Frenchman can't be wrong.
How many cpl/about how many lines per hour?
It's the 4 cpl and below for VR that I find it hard to believe anybody makes comparable pay to straight doing.

Doing a quick guesstimate, you would have to be doing close to 550 lph at 4 cpl to make what you did in the period of time you did today. Are you really doing that many lph, or (hopefully) just being paid more than 4 cpl?
I left MQ for TT. The base line rate was less at TT, but overall I make more per line with the
shift differential (I work second shift) and the incentive plan (I have never once failed to make at least an extra half cent per line on incentives - most of the time a penny). I was scared to death to make that move, as I had been with MQ since back in the Transcriptions Limited days. I have to say, though, that it was the best career move I have ever made and I have never, not once, regretted it.

I hope that was of some help.
Line versus report

I do radiology for a large national and a small service. The large national pays per examination not report and the small service pays per line.  If the large national were paying per line, I would make a lot more than I do now due to the fact that most of the reports I type for them are very long (some as long as 15 minutes!). If I were being paid per line, I would be happy to type these long winded reports, but I am not getting paid like that by them. The small service pays me per line and when I get a long report, instead of thinking, Oh no!, I am thinking :CA-CHING!! Every account is different but this has been my experience after 11 years.  Good luck to you.

line versus report
I am getting paid by the report and have always gotten paid by the line. Maybe thats my problem. I make my quoata most days, but when we have a lot long reports back to back, I only get half of my quota and that's my big concern. Even with short reports, I usually type 1600 to 1850 lines per day and with the long reports, making only half my quota (64), I had 1240 lines and was just discouraged, as I only make 1.05 per report.
page pay versus per line pay
Does anyone know which is better to get paid by the line or the page?  A local doctor just offered me a position but they pay by the page.
page versus line
Thanks for your resonse. The office told me they page $3.00 for first page and then $1.50 thereafter. It is an ortho doc so I am not sure how long their dictations are. I am assuming relatively short. I just want to make sure I am not leaving a .10cpl job for less. Thanks again.
Hourly versus line
Do not give up your hourly job. I had an hourly job until about three weeks ago and then hospital outsourced and now working per line. Everyone is running out of work and we have to wait on reports to trickle through. We are not making anything like we used to and will have to take a second job just to make up for loss. We are all depressed and upset and as usual they have overstaffed, but they said they would not, but they have. If you like your job stick it out. At least you will know what your paycheck will be.
So you edit more than 400 lines an hour?

I havent seen anyone else be able to do that on the new platform.  What is your secret because I have tried and could only do 425 maximum on the best day with the best dictators on.  Way too much work for that kind of money.

I average 300 lines an hour
but some days I do have to work over 8 hours to make it work because of things going on around the house, this will definitely disrupt things
