That should clear up your misconceptions from the IRS standpoint. The IC has privileges that the employer does NOT and there is a fine line that needs adherence. Maybe you feel you have no rights, but the IRS says that is just simply not the case!

Check out http://www.matrixbill.com/team.html.  This is the same Andrea Renner who owns Priority Medical Resources, maybe a recruiter for AllType (not sure).
I just read the article. Man, those answers sure don't
Like how little MT's are paid. Like how much they expect them to know, how fast the work is expected to be turned around, and how most MTs don't even have health insurance, and have to work 2-3 jobs just to live. They also didnt mention how much editing is involved with SR and offshore work. And I think their US-vs-India ratio is bogus as well. Most MTSOs these days have more work don in India than in the US.
Just read article about health crisis sm
for the MT workers in India. Study says workers are getting stressed working long hours and developing health issues. Check out the amount of lines they put out and with 99% accuracy compared to AAMT's accuracy of 98% Oh please!
Thank you. That is a great, factual article. I hope the others read it.

I read the article, it states exactly what the company always tells us...
that they offshore a small percentage of their work, and that it will never take the place of their domestic MLS. I love working at Transcend.

For someone that doesn't work at Transcend, you sure have gone to a lot of trouble to find the article and continue posting about it. Any other issues?
Should Dennis Paulik and Kathy Clemmons read the article?
Should they know we will not be silent? Our voices need to be heard.
Can you not read? I said FORMER; I had a small service sm
(10 MTs) and would have loved nothing better than to pay 11CPL and provide benefits too. I AM 100% FOR ALL-AMERICAN MTs. Don't lump everyone into the same category - you don't know who we all are!
Why should transcription be any different than other businesses? sm
A person goes into a business like this to make money. From the time you open your doors in any business, you are told to have an exit strategy in mind, whether it be to leave the company to your children, sell it or close it when you retire. She did not do anything out of the ordinary. She made a business move.

One thing no one has brought up is that MDI only had ICs. D made a lot of money off of us not having to pay taxes or benefits. She was not thinking of us, taking care of us as everyone is saying. She paid us to work. She did not give us benefits or pay our social security. She took the easy way from the beginning and this just was the next step.

If she cared about us, we would have had a retirement plan, health and life insurance. Instead, we paid our own insurance and taxes. Basically, she was a middle man, getting accounts for us to work on, not treating us like employees. You wouldn't give your roofer a bonus when you sold your house, would you? That's all we are, contractors.
Probably brand new. Lots of new graduates get out there and try to start businesses all the time. nm

(This is copied from their website...supposedly they pay well, BUT their lines do not include spaces...hmmm...well, still, I've heard that they pay better than most companies.  Anyhow..hope this helps.)

We require a minimum of 3 years experience in Ops and Discharges, with acute care facility/teaching institution/production environment experience essential. This is a major metropolitan market with primarily teaching institutions, and therefore there are significant numbers of ESL’s. All of our hospitals are teaching facilities, with general technical surgeries requiring the skill and ability to transcribe a variety of disciplines every single day. Operative reports comprise approximately 80% of our volume. We also hire for discharge summary/ consultation/ clinic note coverage as the need arises.

We require a minimum of 600 lines per day. We have never experienced a prolonged work shortage, so you can type to whatever limits you set for yourself over our required 600 lines/day, Monday-Friday. We have work 24/7. Weekends are not required. We do not overstaff an account, so there’s no fighting to get your committed lines. You are assigned specific accounts and you will stay with these accounts. You don't bounce from account to account on a daily or weekly basis. However, to achieve a significantly high volume, you will need to type more than one account.

We have a testing site and all applicants are tested using the same standards. You will have to achieve a significantly high score on this test to insure that you will be able to easily transcribe the work provided without a struggle daily to achieve your lines and to provide a quality report. Typos are heavily weighed, as are drug misspellings and common term misspellings. The test is taken on line, and the site includes instructions for downloading the voice and playing it through your sound card or a wave player.

While Phoenix doesn’t insist on exclusivity, we do expect all committed work to be done daily, Monday through Friday, and not used as a fill-in when work is light elsewhere. If other arrangements are requested that preclude a straight Monday through Friday work week, approval from the Corporate staff will be necessary.

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS:
A Pentium class (at least Pentium III), 400 megahertz computer with a large hard drive. We utilize a transcription program customized for MTs (we use an enhanced program superimposed on Word 97.). We utilize a word Expander as well. We license and provide all the software necessary for installation. You must supply your own version of Word 97 or Word 2000, and PCAnywhere. You must have an email account.

Rochester Business Journal - August or Sept 2005.   And it wasn't all 15 years ago.... charges still pending in 1999 -- but read the article for accurate information on the convictions and judge for yourself.
I saw that article too
They pay their MTs the equivalent of about $135/month US, which for the year is more than 3 times their national average of about $500/year US.  My electric bill is over $135/month.
Here is the article

Very interesting article.
Sadly, the wave of the future, I suppose. I'm glad to see some of the transcriptionists spoke up, but unfortunately, people who don't understand transcription are always the ones making the decisions! Thanks again for sharing.
This was a great article.

Thanks.

Interesting article

In 2003, Indian employees, who were working on medical records for Ohio’s Heartland Information Services, threatened to release confidential records unless they received a cash payoff from the company.

It's a slightly old article -
.
Right. That's what the article said, basically.
That all correct English is the same, wherever the country:

English in India may have a British hangover but by no means is it vastly different from American English or any other correct English for that matter.

She expects Indians working for American countries to have excellent English ... like hers. If only our visitor could write like that, we wouldn't be appalled.

what article?.....and why would I be disappointed?
nm
i looked at the article...
and it still does not clear up the line count issue for me at all. : (
Can you link this article?
I am interested in reading this and how they came up with their figures. I QA Indian reports, and maybe 5% of the MTs could pass a quality audit at 98%. I wonder what kind of guidelines they are using to get this 99% figure.
It is definitely going to India....big article

Do you have Link to article? nm

Here is the article - they do offshore

and seem mighty proud about it.  LG states that about 15% of the work is outsourced to India (that was in May, 2008 - number more likely 35% by now), but that the clients are in the U.S.  That was a strange quote, IMO.

Good article.
That's right — the Franchise Tax Board and IRS come after you and, at the very least,
disallow your related business deductions.

Yikes, only one more reason not to work for the companies that treat their ICs like employees.
