Have interviews with Axolotl and Webmedx. Need opinions from CURRENT MTs about their future

Posted By: omt on 2006-10-16
In Reply to:

I have interviews for an Acute Care MT position (employee, not IC) with both Axolotl and Webmedx and would like some CURRENT feedback before I make a decision.  Have been an Acute Care MT for over 30 years and want to “plant” myself at my LAST job before retirement.    Getting too old to keep going through these testing/interview processes.

I have researched both Axolotl and Webmedx and to no surprise the poster either hates 'em or loves 'em.  It seems like both companies have gone through some major changes during 2006 and plan more changes in the future – good or bad – depending on who is replying.  From preliminary information, they seem to be comparable in pay, both provide the computer, insurance is reasonable at both, and other benefits are close to identical, which is making it hard for me to swing one way or the other without more information.

I would really appreciate either a post or E-Mail from CURRENT (or newly former) employees of Axolotl and Webmedx with their opinion as to if they feel reasonably confident they can continue to make a comfortable living over the next few years (or at least not have drastic downward changes in their future incomes), where they think their employers are going in the future, if they are comfortable with the direction they are taking (job security), and if they think they will still be working for the company in say 5 to 10 years (or at least plan to, baring unforeseen circumstances).   Any information you care to share on ESL and achieving/maintaining minimum lines per pay period would also be helpful.   Any other information you would care to share would also be greatly appreciated in my attempt to decide the PROS and CONS of these two companies.

Needless to say, I would love to hear any negatives in case I need to go in a totally different direction.    Any former employees who would care to share why they left would be very insightful too.

Any information you have will certainly help in my decision making.  Thank you in advance.

Anyone turned down offers at Amphion, Axolotl or Webmedx - would like honest opinions

I would like to hear from any MTs who have recently (within the past month or two)  turned down offers or changed their minds about applying at Amphion, Axolotl, and Webmedx.  I have heard that each of those companies have been going through some major changes recently which could affect the atmosphere there.  For example, Amphion, I hear, has lost quite a few MTs.  Axolotl is bringing on so many new accounts everyone works OT every week.  Webmedx is going to be converting to speech recognition and the way their work is being assigned has changed recent.

I decided to throw out a wider net and have been contacted by Amphion, Axolotl, and Webmedx to do testing and interviews.  That's a lot of my time.  Since current employees love the place and former employees hate the place, I was trying to figure out a way to get some honest opinions about these companies before I go through all the testing and interviewing.   I thought maybe if I could hear from MTs who already went through the process and changed their minds that might be useful information.

I'd like to know why you decided against going with the company, if there is a specific reason -- hours, pay, benefits, bad vibes from the interviewer?  Any honest opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Axolotl.....Any opinions??
Good or bad.
Axolotl - Any opinions???

Opinions - Webmedx

I'm trying to pull together a pros/cons list for Webmedx and the possibility of looking into employment there, so I thought I would put it out there for the experts - - those of you who either work there now or have in the past.  My major areas of concern surround:

1.  Amount/line (average - - for 30+ years experience).

2.  Reliability of work not running out.

3.  Reliability of being paid.

4.  Benefits.  How long does it take for them to kick in once employed.

5.  Amount of work, if any, being outsourced.

6.  Amount of work within the company involved with voice recognition.

7.  Is it mandatory to do voice recognition or can you remain a traditional MT?

8.  If traditional MT is an option, is the result dictation you wouldn't want to give your worst enemy?

I think those are just a few to highlight at the moment.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Would a current employee of Axolotl please...sm
give me some specific information by email? Thanks in advance!
Current info about Axolotl in archives, never
heard of the other company.  Axolotl is not currently hiring, has no work on multiple accounts, though they do pay for downtime.  Fixing to start transition to natural speech, most would call it VR.  Pay is better than most currently, good benefits, great company.  Work has been low for 3-4 months, but is worse lately.  They provide all software/hardware, good tech support 24/7.
Opinions on Webmedx lack of work.
Have been there for 2 years now. The benefits, pay, etc., are enough to keep you hanging in, but their slow-downs have been consistent and becoming more and more frequent. The new accounts in the last conference call appear to have not materialized for the most part. Still a decent place to work, but a tenuous situation. My STM behaves as if this happens every year everywhere. We all know that is not true.
WebMedx versus MedScribe--Opinions? Can you use Instant Text?
Don't want to go to a situation
Wow. Aren't you nasty? You clearly can't tolerate others' opinions. If webmedx folks are li
Ick.
I would LOVE to hear opinions on Enterprise platform for Webmedx&for Shorthand.See msg.
Thanks so much!  Does anyone know if Instant Text will work with Enterprise also.  The recruiter who offered me a job was fuzzy on that.  Any webmedx employees who would like to E-mail me opinions, etc., I would deeply appreciate it
Webmedx versus Axolotl

It looks like you have two posts -- one for Webmedx and another for Axolotl.  Below is what was posted on both of them on March 23, 2006.  I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in your new company.  For some people money is the top priority, while for others, benefits and being treated like a person instead of another piece of equipment are important.  Maybe this information will help you decide.

I cannot guarantee this information is 100%, and anyone with more accurate information feel free to chime in, but I have interviewed with several companies over the past few months, and here are the notes I have taken on what was offered by Webmedx and Axolotl:

Webmedx Acute Care = probably includes ESL dictators

Axolotl Clinic Work = probably easier/better dictators

VR/ASR:

WMX = Starting to covert accounts to ASR

AX = Unknown

Insurance (Single):  Axolotl costs more per pay period than Webmedx.

Pay Days:

WMX = 26 (every 2 weeks)

AX = 24 (twice monthly)

Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance:

WMX = Eligible after 90 days

AX = Eligible after 30 days

Flexible Spending Account:

WMX = None

AX = Eligible after 90 days

401K:

WMX = Eligible after 1 year, with NO MATCH

AX = Eligible after 90 days with partial match

Eligible Tuition Reimbursement:

WMX = Unknown

AX = $2,000 per year

Working Holidays:

WMX = You are expected to work the holiday if it falls during your regular work schedule, unless you request it off in advance and there is enough coverage.

AX = Rotating.  If it falls during your regular work schedule, they try to spread it out so no one is working all the major holidays.

Yearly Bonus or Pay Raise:

WMX = never heard of anyone getting a raise

AX = Anniversary $500 bonus (minimum)

ISP, incoming dictation snafu, or Acts of God preventing you from working:

WMX = Full-time:  you have to make up the time or take PTO, preferably the same day

AX = Depending on the circumstances, you may still get paid and only have to work your regular schedule

Full-Time Status:

WMX = If you fall below 35 hours per week for three consecutive months (no matter what reason), they automatically drop you to part-time status.

AX = Unknown

Diskriter, WebMedx, Axolotl: Can vet MTs do
nn
Webmedx current VR
Am I going crazy here, or has anyone else noticed that since the webinar on Tuesday our current VR seems to be doing much worse than it usually does. I'm working on reports by the same dictators that I always do and VR isn't getting a lot of what they are saying, putting the wrong words, missing entire sentences, etc. It usually does much better than that. Some kind of sabotage to prove that the new ISR software is better??
If only VWP was the future. It's not. The bad sound quality of VR is the future at this company.

Bad sound quality, technical problems, no expander, full editing, half pay.  No thanks. I'm on my way out after 4 years.

Axolotl, Webmedx, Diskriter, Transoutions....sm
Would like to know what their insurance deductibles are.
I am a current Webmedx employee. sm
MTs have posted here that they've had trouble with the time clock situation. Time you use to research words, stretch your hands, whatever, eats into your official time/lph. So to keep your lph decent, you may find yourself clocking out for every little thing, which makes your day extremely long. They do give you a window of time in which to complete your reports, but you'll probably find yourself using those 12 hours to do the 8, and who wants to work 12 hours a day every day? I have also had problems with running out of work on primary and secondary accounts, only to bounce around on a daily basis on several others.

Other concerns about Webmedx are due to a case of someone with no MT experience and too much power making poor decisions that are adversely affecting many employees, IMO. I would definitely recommend staying AWAY from the QA end of things at Webmedx if that opening arises unless there's a change in top management.

I don't know anything about Axolotl. Do you have any other options besides these two? Could you be an IC sompelace else? If you get benefits elsewhere, some of the IC opportunities at other companies are the best.
Current Webmedx people who came from MQ. Looking for comparisons. sm

Like how do their line counts compare to MQ?

How is their time keeping method compared to E-time?

How steady is the work compared to MQ? Interested in Acute work on this.

E-mail if you wish.  Thanks.

Webmedx also pays 70% of your current rate. nm
.
How much are single insurance rates???? Webmedx, Axolotl, Keystrokes, TT, Transend?
Thanks for the info!
Interviews...
On average, I was wondering how long takes to hear back from companies? I just started job-searching as I wanted to get away from MQ, and they apparently want to get rid of me as I just received a written warning. This leaves me a little worried though. I have applied for 5 jobs in the past few days (MedScribe, Phoenix MedCom, Chronicle, Summit and Tarheel), and I'm worried that I might not find a new job in time. I have 11 years of experience, and I have been working for Medquist since 2004. Any info on your job-searching experience would be appreciated :) TIA :)
MT company interviews
Don't be nervous. I don't think an MT company phone interview is like a regular interview in a lot of ways--definitely not worth worrying over.

They want to know your experience. They want to know you'll be able to do the work. If you have both, you have nothing to worry about.

Remember, it's an INTERview, meaning this is not something they do to you, it's something you do with them. Bolster yourself up, lady, and remember you want to know if YOU want to work for them. Get your questions ready! You don't want to get into a bad situation, so you'll talk with them and make sure they're a good fit, right? Writing some questions out might help you get in the right frame of mind as well as help you remember while you're on the phone that you are not powerless here.
two recent interviews

I thought you might enjoy these two tidbits from recent interviews with unnamed companies.  When I asked the first recruiter/owner about the insurance they offered in their ad, I was told that contract had lapsed and there was not a new one signed yet.  She went on to volunteer her opinion that people are better off without health insurance -- that way you can use the free clinics (TRUE story).  The second one advertised 8.5 to 10 cpl transcription and 0.4 to 0.5 VR.  Unfortunately, those positions (although I applied within minutes of the post)  were filled but I was offered 8 cpl transcription and 0.3 VR.  Bait and switch much?

INSURANCE INTERVIEWS

Anyone working in insurance interviews for Medscribe?  I would like to know your experience with it.

Insurance Interviews
I have experience doing insurance claims reports for a local insurance company. I get $3.00 a page, so I was a little wary about the $1.50. It is very easy work if the tapes are clear. I was thinking of applying, but I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Has anyone else applied yet?
My only contact with them was rude. The front office person or whomever schedules interviews is rude
This was about a year ago but I set up an interview and either I was supposed to call them or they were to call me at a certain time but I totally spaced off the time change. The lady went off on me and told me that they had no interest in me because I couldn't call on time etc. Rude. There is no way I would ever work for someone like that.
FUTURE.NET

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone know anything about Futurenet and if so..what do you think of them. Thanks..

Future Net
At the risk of being called a spy or whatever, I spent 8 years with MQ. FutureNet is the BEST company I have ever worked for. They sure nipped the cherry pickers in the butts. They have work coming out the eyeballs and if you do your job according to what you promised, you won't be bothered by anyone. Best, best, best company ever.
future net

It sounds like you enjoy working for this company. I am not happy with the company I work for now as most of the dictators are ESL. Are the dictors for FutureNet mostly ESL. Any info you can give me would be helpful. Thanks, D.

Future Net pay
They've NEVER been late to pay me, and I've been there for about 8-1/2 months.  Maybe you should find out if your invoice went through okay.  I'd contact the office if I were you.
Future Net
Has anyone heard anything about them? I haven't had decent work from them in two weeks or more. Are they going belly up or do they off shore? I need to get serious about them becasue they sure aren't serious about their employees. I don't want to work for ANY company who offshores.
Future Net
Does anyone have any current info on Future Net?  Everything in the archives is over a year old.  Do they offshore?  Thanks in advance!
Future Net
What is the latest on Future Net?  Anyone here work or has worked for them?
Future Net

Hello,

I was interviewed by them, took a test over the phone, which really caught me off guard and offered a position.  Richland will be one of my sites and I have to do 2 days of training. Hopefully that will be Wed/Thurs or Thurs/Friday.  I will be emailing the recruiter this evening as she was out of the office on Friday.  They have sent me quite a bit of information (site specifics/format/general helpful info) and I am looking forward to starting. I hope that helps....

Future something
FutureNet maybe?
Future of MT
As a retired MT, who spent over 40 years in the business, I project that within 10 years there will be  no such thing as a medical transcriptionist.  I would not encourage anyone to get into the business now.  Just read the posts and look at the job seeker's board.  2000+ hits on 1 job ad!!!!
Future-Net

Can anyone tell me anything about working for Future-Net?  Thanks

Future Net is on the sm
West Coast and has many east coast clients.  They need folks who in the east coast time zone.  At least that was the way it was a couple years ago.  They  must be getting more east coast clients.  Not a bad place to work.
You should always think about the future
when you have children. You either totally misunderstood, or you don't have kids. BT didn't mean not to think about the present at all, but kids don't get cheaper as they get older, they get more expensive which means you need to think about how you will provide them a secure future. I have raised 6 (only 3 left at home now) and believe me, you think about the future a lot!
Future Net
I searched for posts and found nothing on Future Net since 2007. Anybody worked there recently or employed there now? How is it? Do they have work? Are they flexible? I am an ex yogger and may be in the market for a new job.

Thank you
They still do now, but I don't know what the future holds. NM
xxxxxxx
Can't worry about the future right now...
My mortgage is not due in the future, it is due in the present.  I cannot cut all my bills by 40% until Transcend figures it out so I have to make $ to pay my bills now--not later.  Anyway--gotta go type for Webmedx, like I said.  I have to pull myself away but will be back on later this evening.  Good luck to all of you, and I truly wish you the best!!!!
Thanks, I'll try that in the future.nm

Future Net sucks....SM
No direct deposit, no benefits, minimal weekend incentive and now NO WORK.  I can't put up with it anymore and I'm out of there......If you are looking for a good job, this is not the one.
What platform does Future Net use?

Is it Itype or something like that?  Does Instant Text work with it?  Which work Expander works with it?

INMT

I work for Future-Net and they sm
not a part of Spheris at all.  I know folks who work for Spheris and even the pay scale is a big joke.  Future-Net is the best company I have worked for in m 30 years as an MT.
I love Future-Net! I have been with sm

them since May after leaving a national after 23 years.  I have never been treated with such respect for the skills I have.  They hav eplenty of work, the platform is not difficult.  I am classified part-time which is 500 lines a day/four hours and get no hassels, no pestering phone calls.  If they want to ask a question, they e-mail you.  I love it!  I do a high ESL account but truthfully its not bad and some of the non-ESLs are a whole lot worse than the ESLs, so it balances out.

Hope that helps.

Waiting for Future-Net

About a week ago I received an email from Future-Net stating I had passed all the testing and a recruiter would be contacting me....I am still waiting a week later.  Is this normal for them?

TIA

I don't see retirement in my future, unless it's the
:(
Has anyone applied to Future Net sm
in response to their immediate need for MTs?  Have you heard anything from them if you have?
